Amity had known that she couldn't hide her new -situation- from her parents forever.

But she'd hoped. Was it foolish? Absolutely. But she didn't want to have to deal with their reaction. Because she didn't know how they would react.

Good parents react negatively to learning that their daughter was a victim of sexual assault. The sheer weirdness of their situation didn't exclude the fact that a picture her could very well be put in a textbook talking about victimized Omegas, even if Hunter's picture would be on the relatively empty next page describing victimized Alphas.

But the fact of the matter was that Hunter was famous. The dork didn't act like it unless he was exercising his authority, but the Golden Guard was one of the most politically powerful people on the Boiling Isles. A teenage prodigy in charge of the most powerful coven on the Isles.

And she was scared that when she told them, that's how they thought about it.

However, she knew she couldn't keep it a secret forever. Barcus gave her and Luz weird looks whenever she got close to them and Viney always looked on the verge of asking them about it. The only thing keeping anyone from talking about it was Boscha's threats and her sibling's interferences. But even then, she knew that was barely a stopgap. Lilith had revealed that she'd already heard some strange rumors about the human and the Blight girl.

And that was why she was in her father's workshop talking to them. Or trying to.

"Mom, Dad, this is important."

"I'm sure it can wait," Alador said, not looking up from the mass of abomination goo and metal he was tinkering with. "I have to work on this change to…"

"I'm serious." Amity pressed.

"I'm sure it is," Odalia said dismissively as she looked through some files. "Look how about…"

"I'm pregnant."

Both of her parents froze. The only noise was the sound of several important looking files hitting the ground.

"What?" Her dad asked.

"Amity," Odalia snapped. "That's not funny."

"She's not joking." Emira said. It was the first thing either her or Edric had said after following her into the workshop.

"How…?" Odalia began, horrified.

"Who?" Alador asked, looking downright apoplectic.

"I-I'll tell you," Amity said, surprised that her voice was shaking. "But you have to listen to the whole thing. It's important you have the full context."

Odalia opened her mouth to say something.

"And I can't look at you."

"What?"

"I… can't look at you. I can't hear you." Amity felt tears threaten to fall from her eyes and looked at the ground. "I'm scared."

"Scared?" Odalia asked, her voice softer than Amity could ever remember hearing it. "Scared of us?"

"I'm scared you'll be happy."

"That…I don't… what?" Alador was confused by Amity's words.

"Isn't that fucked up?" Amity asked no one in particular. "Some asshole kidnapped me and took advantage of my status to get me pregnant, and I'm worried that you guys won't be as upset as you should be."

Two hands grabbed Amity's shoulders forcing her to look up at her mom. The woman looked devastated and enraged. "Amity Blight, stop talking nonsense and tell us what happened."

Amity stepped back and looked at her siblings. They both nodded. "Fine. But you have to listen to the whole story. And I was serious about not seeing or hearing you. Guys."

Her siblings stepped in front of her and drew a spell circle.

An illusion of a wall appeared in front of her, hiding her parents. They'd assured her that her parents would be able to hear her while she couldn't hear them. Amity sighed. "It started when Luz decided to spend the night in school in a nest filled with Palismen."

"And now I have 7 weeks before the potion is no longer an option."

She nodded at her siblings. They drew a new spell circle and the wall disappeared in a puff of smoke."

There was silence.

"Amity," Alador said as he rushed forward and pulled her into a hug. "How could you think we'd be okay with that at all?"

"Because being mated to one of the most powerful men on the Isles would be so good for my career." Amity muttered. She glanced at her mom who was standing still in shock. "I… I need to go."

Her father let her go and she began to walk away. Then she stopped. "We've decided to tell everyone that we mated with Hunter willingly."

"What?" Odalia asked, her voice. "Why?"

"Because people aren't going to understand." Amity said. "They won't know who he normally is, or how hard he tried to protect us. They're just going to hear that he lost control and had sex with us and will get to do it again the next time we're in heat and they'll judge him." She looked back at them. "And the truth involves blaming the emperor. Hunter doesn't think that'll work out. Eda said that it wouldn't be hard for him to convince the Isles that Hunter browbeat us into coming up with that story."

Odalia's fist hit one of the workbenches, startling everyone. "And how do we know that isn't what happened?"

Amity blinked. Then she grimaced, "The fact that I told you the truth and you apparently don't believe me proves my point. And you should believe me because I told you this instead of lying that I did it willingly."

Amity saw her mom's eyes go cold. "I'll be the judge of that." Then they softened. "But… you can go. Your father and I have a lot to discuss."

Amity nodded and walked out. Before she knew it she was running, and as soon as she was outside, she was flying on Ghost.

Once she reached the Owl House, she knocked on the door.

Hunter opened it and without thinking, she dived into his chest. She didn't hate how she yearned for his presence as much as she used to. But she simply chalked it up to wanting her friend's comfort.

"Blight?" Hunter asked, his protective instincts kicking in as he hugged her. He could feel her fear and exhaustion and felt compel to wrap her in a blanket and protect her from the world. That feeling was usually reserved for Luz.

"I told them." Amity gasped. "I told my parents."

Hunter didn't say anything, but he raised one of his arms.

A second pair of arms wrapped around her and Luz's familiar scent hit her nose. "It's okay," the human said.

Amity relaxed into both of them. "I… I think they're angry." She said with a smile. And then the emotional exhaustion caught up with her and she fell asleep.

Short chapter, I know, but I felt Amity deserved some focus. Especially with the episode on her family that came out last week. What did you guys think?

Honestly, I've felt a bit concerned that I was overly focusing on Hunter's perspective and leaving out the girls, which wouldn't be good. And I won't lie, writing the whole biology vs. desires thing is complicated as hell, but then again, adding a whole secondary gender that affects people's desires and the way they see each other should be. I can see why most writers just have characters have bone and fall in love.

Writing this story is like walking on a tightrope, but I'm gonna take the fact no one's accused me of sexism and homophobia as a good thing.

Ah, Odalia and Alador, how you make your daughter fear. Can't wait to write the interaction between them and Hunter.

I've finally learned Flapjack's name and I don't even write an episode with him in it.
