"Are you ready, Shell?" Glide asked as he stood across from the eager netnavi.
"Yeah!" Shell grinned as he heard Allen make a noise.
"Yai, thanks again for being ok with this."
"Don't worry about it. Me and Glide haven't really been able to practice anyway."
"Well in that case." Shell rolled his shoulders. "Shall we?"
"By all means." Glide did a polite bow as the floor lit up.
[BATTLE START]
Before Glyde could blink, Shellwas already reaching for his hips, swiped the two holders on his pants and pointed forward, the data forming into a pair of handguns and opened fire. He had a good quickdraw; that said, Glyde promptly responded by dodging, jumping back and using his wing extensions to keep him in the air. He held out his hand, the limb quickly reforming into a buster as he returned fire. Shell ran, heading to the side as he fired another volley. Glyde just kept dodging for a moment, before firing a single shot that slammed into Shell's leg and caused him to slam face first into the ground.
"I'm ok!" Shell shouted, giving a thumbs up before getting back to his feet. Looking for Glyde for a moment he opened fire. Glyde simply dropped from the sky before moving forward. Weaving left and right as he approached. "Ok~ well this isn't working." Shell grumbled as he brought one of his handguns back before seeming to spin it for a moment and grabbed the weapon by its barrel. "How about this?" As if a command was issued the handgun changed, turning into a cybersword as Shell charged.
"Oh?"
"Wait what?" Dex asked, looking at the screen, his attention turning to Allen as he seemed to be alternating his attention between the Netbattle Arena and his laptop. "When you plug that in?"
"I didn't." Allen admitted as he shifted his attention for a moment. "Shell can turn his gun into a cybersword by changing his grip on it." He explained.
"So he can switch between melee and long range without a battle chip?" Dex asked as Allen typed something on his computer. "That's kinda cool, I didn't know Netnavi's could do that."
"Normally they can't." Yai stated as she smiled. "But Allen designed Shell himself, so there's bound to be some tricks he has that most Navi's don't." Dex's eyes widened as he seemed to recoil in surprise.
"What? He made Shell?"
"You're not in our class Dex, so you wouldn't have heard yet." Maylu stated. "Allen built Shell himself."
"Wow~" Dex muttered as he glanced at Allen for a moment as the teen seemed to be working on something for a moment before returning his attention to the fight.
Glyde dodged several of Shell's swings before starting to deflect them with his hands. At one point though Glyde moved his weapon to the side so he could knock Shell off balance, and the next thing Shell knew he was on his back. "Ok…" Shell blinked, trying to figure out exactly why he was on his back and staring up at Glyde. "What just happened?"
"I threw you." Glyde stated as he offered the younger Netnavi a hand.
"You threw me?" Shell asked in disbelief. "How did you throw me?"
"I have studied grappling martial arts such as Judo to better augment my combat abilities." Glyde stated as he helped Shell back up. "Because of that, I don't need to rely on Battle Chip programs to help me fight."
"Martial arts?" Shell muttered, taking a minute to look at his innate memories. "You mean you can fight unarmed? That's kinda cool." Shell admitted taking Glyde's hand and was helped up. "Can I study Martial Arts?"
"Of course." Glyde admitted. "You'll have to look up what forms you'd like to learn however." Glyde stated as he took a few steps backwards and adopted a stance. "For now though…" He made a gesture with an outstretched hand. "Shall we continue?" Shell didn't respond, just lunged at Glyde with a smile and threw a punch. It was sloppy that was for certain, but nothing Glyde hadn't expected. The younger navi was effectively a baby after all. He deflected the punch and dodged the one after that. He deflected the next couple punches as he started moving around the arena. Out of nowhere Shell transformed one of his arms into a Buster as he fired and Glyde dodged taking a few steps back as Shell resumed foring. 'I see, so he had two types of Busters equipped. An auxiliary, hand held one and a standard arm mounted one.' Glyde noted as he continued to dodge Shell's attacks before starting to run.
"Hey!" Shell chased after him, his buster turning back into his hand as he picked up his discarded cybersword. "Get back here!"
Glyde turned behind one of the pillars and Shell chased after him swinging his sword only for it to get caught in the pillar wall. "Huh?" Glyde closed it, a palm strike slamming into Shell's chest as he was pushed back and went rolling on the ground.
"It's hard to swing such a long cybersword in tight corridors." Glyde stated as Shell looked at his sword and made a face.
"Allen?"
"I got cha."
Without warning the cybersword shrunk as Shell stared at the now dagger length weapon. "Well…" Shell muttered. "I was not expecting that. You can adjust the blade length?"
"It's a little gimmick I thought of adding after playing Megaman X7. This way you can get close without worrying about tight spaces"
Allen admitted.
"What's Megaman X7?"
"I'll show you later."
Shell nodded his head, as he charged, closing in on Glyde as his opponent dodged the blade and started to step around Shell. Shell just turned, swinging his weapon again as Glyde continued to dodge before catching another sword swing and disarmed Shell. Turning around he planted the weapon next to Shell's neck as the youth froze.
Without warning Glyde spun the weapon in his hand and held it out to Shell for him to take it back. Shell just touched where his own knife had touched, made a face before slowly taking his weapon back, and promptly kicked Glyde in the shin. Glyde just chuckled good naturedly, as Shell jumped back, and got ready.
Allen just smiled as he watched the fight - rather spar - continue. He looked at his laptop a few times before returning his attention to what was in front of him. "Everything looks good so far." He muttered.
"Hey, Allen, what do you keep looking at?" Dex asked as he peaked at Allen's side of the arena terminal.
"I'm keeping an eye on Shell's data." He admitted.
"Why?"
"I want to make sure he doesn't glitch out or develop a bug while fighting. I know it's his first fight, but he was just born last night. There's some stuff that still needs to be worked out and some fine tuning I need to do to his programming." Allen admitted as a message popped up on his computer screen.
[ERROR]
"Shell, that's enough." Allen called out and Shell seemed to trip, confused as he looked around in the arena. "I'm going to have to jack you out."
"What? Why?"
"I just got an error message, I need to see what's wrong before it causes a problem for you."
"Ah~ but I feel fine."
Shell whined, right before his head started to glitch and for a moment split in two.
"Ok NoW I dOn'T."
Without a word Allen pulled Shell from the terminal and plugged him back into his laptop and started doing maintenance.
"My HeAd FeElS fUzZy."
"It's not supposed to feel fuzzy." Allen muttered. "And it's not supposed to be opening up either."
Maylu Yai and Dex approached the teen, leaning over him as he worked. "Is Shell going to be alright?"
"Yeah, from the looks of it, it's nothing I can't repair." Allen admitted. "But Shell's gonna be out of commision till I get this problem fixed."
"That's good." Dex muttered. "But what's the problem?"
"Looks like a bit of corrupted code." Allen admitted as he moved away from the arena and set his things down in the corner. Pulling out one of his external hard drives he plugged it in and started searching for something. "I can fix this pretty easily using an ECC, just need to find the right one and… here we go." He ran a program as data started streaming across Shell's Kernel. "Looks like I got to the problem before it could spread too far, so this shouldn't take to long. . but I think Shell should rest for the rest of the day."
"I agree." Yai stated. ""When you get home you should do a deep scan to look for anything you might have missed."
"Right, I'll do that." Allen muttered as his computer showed a Clear message. "Alright, how do you feel Shell?"
"I think the right word is nauseous."
Shell grumbled, seeming to rub his throat and then touched his head to make sure it was still on right.
"Give me like five minutes, ok."
"You'll get more than five minutes, I'm taking you home to do that deep scan Yai recommended."
"Do you have to?"
"It's better to be safe than sorry." Allen muttered as he sent Shell back to his PET and put his things away. Looking at the others he scratched his head and apologized. "I'm sorry we gotta leave now, but…"
"Don't apologize." Yai spoke up. "Get home and make sure Shell's in perfect health."
"Yeah, have him get some rest and we'll see both of you tomorrow." Maylu stated as Allen nodded his.
"Yeah, thanks for understanding." Allen muttered, nodding his head before heading off. "I'll see you guys tomorrow."
