CHAPTER 2

"Doug! Doug, come down." Ben led the group around the school, before stopping just inside. Doug walked down the stairs and stopped in front of Ben.

"This is Doug. He's got your schedules since someone left them in the office," Ben said, whipping his head towards Antoinette. She suddenly became very interested in the ceiling above them. Ben let out an amused smile.

"Anyways, these two will show you to your dorms, and Antoinette here will help you with your scheduling. I'll see you later, okay? And if there is anything you need, feel free to-"

"Ask Antoinette!" Audrey interrupted, seizing Ben's arm and practically dragging him away.

"Antoinette?"

"Yes, Doug?" She asked while looking at her clipboard, and making a note.

"Don't you have to talk to him about going to see your mother and father?"

"Sure do."

"Don't you think you should go talk to him?" Antoinette turned towards him with a smile. Her heels together, and she stood in perfect posture. Jay couldn't help but notice her tight ringlets hardly moved.

"Oh, I'll tell him soon. I'm not worried about it," She stated.

"But, won't you be interrupting his time with Audrey?" Doug asked. Antoinette cocked her head with a confused look.

"Will I? Oh, well, isn't that a shame?" Antoinette replied. A tight smile on her face once more.

"Ha," Mal snorted. Doug turned to the newcomers.

"Hi guys. I'm Dopey's son. As in Dopey, Doc, Bashful, Happy, Grumpy, Sleepy, and heigh-ho," he said once he saw Evie. She grinned perhaps only a little maliciously and stepped a little closer.

"Evie. Evil queen's daughter." Antoinette elbowed Doug.

"Okay," he said with a wince, "So about your classes, I, uh, put in the requirements already: history of woodsmen and pirates, safety rules for the internet, and, uh, remedial goodness 101."

"Let me guess, new class? Come on, guys, let's go find our dorms." Mal started to lead the small group away before Antoinette called after them.

"Guys, you're going the wrong way. Follow me, please," Antoinette said. The others looked at each other before nodding. Antoinette crossed another item off her list.

"Dopey, Doc, Bashful, Happy, Grumpy, Sleepy, and-" Doug thought for a moment before Carlos interrupted.

"Sneezy."

"Now, since you're here you may be approached by the paparazzi, just tell them no comment and continue about your day. If they are persistent come find me, Ben, or Fairy Godmother," Antoinette said, walking down the halls. Someone bumped into her.

"Hey, watch it," they replied. Antoinette ignored them. She stopped in front of two doors across from each other.

"Boys on the left. Girls on the right. Any questions?" She asked patiently, with her clipboard behind her once more.

"Uh, yeah. Why didn't you say anything to that guy who bumped into you. I thought that was rude here in Auradon?" Jay asked. Antoinette glanced at the handsome boy, before shaking her head.

"Sometimes, it's just easier to let them think they won. I'll come see you later tonight. Check in and such, okay?" She didn't wait for an answer before walking down to the opposite side of the hall and entering her own dorm room.

Antoinette put the items she was carrying on her bed. Her clipboard sat next to the reporter's camera. Smiling to herself she walked over to her laptop and grabbed a cord. She grabbed the camera and hooked it up. Agreeing to the few pops up, Antoinette watched as the photos started to download onto her computer. The shrill of her phone caught her attention.

"Hi Mom."

"Hello Antoinette. How are you, my dear?" Her mother's voice came through the speaker.

"Good. We usually call each other on Wednesday, though, so I'm a bit confused as to why you're calling," Antoinette said, without a hint of confusion in her voice.

"Very funny, young lady," Her mother said.

"It doesn't have anything to do with the new students, right, Maman?" Antoinette asked with a slight smirk dancing on her lips. A sigh on the other end of the call made the young girl pause.

"Have you heard anything about them?" Her mother asked. Antoinette wrapped an arm around herself.

"Mama," she paused for a moment. "I haven't heard anything. I could ask the new students questions if you'd like?"

Silence followed. Antoinette sat at her desk, slouching in her chair, waiting for her mother to respond.

"No. I don't even know if they would know, and don't slouch, sweetie." Antoinette sat up quickly.

"How did you know I was slouching?" Antoinette asked. Antoinette wondered briefly if her mother had bugged her room, or if her mother really did have eyes in the back of her head. However, she quickly decided against both of those options.

"I'm your mother. I know everything." She could practically hear her mother raising an eyebrow in amusement at her. Antoinette could hear her father calling her mother in the background.

"I have to go help your father. Your aunt is throwing a ball, and she's asked us to serve some of the desserts. I love you, sweetie."

"I love you too, Mama." The gentleness between the two women when they said those words to each other, well one would never have expected the past that continues to haunt her mother. It was so gentle and sincere even the birds stopped for a moment to listen to the mother and daughter duo, for the birds wondered themselves how love could come from such a previously thought of cold-hearted woman such as Antoinette's mother.

The pop up on her computer told her that the pictures had finished just as she had hung up with her mother. Antoinette grabbed the camera and deleted all the photos regarding Ben and the new proclamation. On her own computer she saved them under a new file titled Arrival_Isle Students.

Looking through the pictures on the bigger screen, she saw one that she had missed. Antoinette shifted in her seat. It was her and Jay.

The picture was a close up of her face when she had been distracted. Jay's shoulder was in the foreground, and even though she was in the background both Jay and Antoinette were perfectly focused.

If it had been another couple then Antoinette would have thought that the image was a painfully beautiful work, but they were not a couple. They hardly exchanged words. Maybe a tense smile here and there, but Antoinette knew she could never be part of that painfully beautiful couple.

Antoinette slowly went over to the delete option. Click. The little pop up asking if Antoinette would like to delete the photo, if she did she could not retrieve it.

A loud knocking woke Antoinette up. She was still at her desk table, and had apparently fallen asleep on her computer keyboard. The knocking persisted. Getting up from the desk she pressed a hand to her cheek trying to get the blood flow to be more active.

"I'm coming. I'm coming. Don't get your knickers in a bunch," Antoinette grumbled through the door. Opening it, Chad came straight in.

"Yeah, come on in. Not like I was asleep or anything."

"Those new kids took my wallet," Chad said. Antoinette raised an eyebrow.

"Okay, and, um, what evidence do you have?" Antoinette asked. Chad looked around wildly for a moment, as if the evidence Antoinette was asking for would just pop out in front of him.

"Well, others have noticed that their stuff is going missing, too!" Chad mentioned. Antoinette rubbed her left temple, trying to soothe the dull thump beginning.

"Alright. Alright. I will remind them that stealing is not tolerated here, okay?" Chad went to open his mouth. "But I cannot do anything else until there is some sort of physical evidence suggesting that they have taken something."

Antoinette stared at Chad.

"Fine." He was the farthest from pleased seeing as how he practically hissed the word, but she didn't really care as he walked past her and out her dorm room door.

"Bye to you too." She said as she slammed the door shut.

Walking over to her full body mirror, she adjusted her eyeliner. Wiping off the smudge eyeliner, and reapplying it. She fixed her mascara, and traced her lips with a deep red shade of lipstick.

She looked over to the clock on her side table and the time told her it was late. Too late for her liking. Antoinette stared at her reflection for a second, and decided it was time to go talk to the new kids. She put on her little bow shoes and proceeded to the door.

Antoinette would have to be gentle. No accusations. No annoying them. She could most definitely do this. Antoinette paused at her door. She knew she could do this. She had to do this. Her hand left the door knob, and then went back to the mirror. Antoinette reached for a tissue and wiped off the lipstick, and checked her eyes to ensure her eyeliner looked natural. With a nod, she strutted away from the mirror and down the hall.

Antoinette walked through the hall and noticed there were very few people. She thanked the stars. Knocking on the door she waited patiently. Antoinette heard female voices, someone hissing for another person to get the door.

When the door opened it was Carlos. His white hair sticking up as usual.

"Um, hi. Antoinette, right?" Carlos asked, flusterness dancing around him.

"That's me. I was just coming to check up on you guys. See how you guys settled in." Carlos looked behind him, and Antoinette could see everyone give some sort of agreement. Mal had rolled her eyes, Jay had smiled awkwardly, and Evie nodded excitedly.

"Uh, yeah. I think we've 'settled in' okay," Carlos said.

"Great."

"Great. Well, bye," Carlos said as he closed the door. However, Antoinette's foot was quicker to get her into the room.

"Actually, there is something else that I need to discuss with you guys. Mind if I come in?" Antoinette asked gently. Carlos hesitated and that moment was when Antoinette walked in.

"Um, okay." The other three villian kids perked up in interest.

"So, just so you are aware, I've been informed that there's been a series of thefts recently," Antoinette said, while walking around the room. She stopped in front of the video game console.

"Oh, I love this game. I keep wanting to find a partner for it, but my schedule never matches up with anyone else's. Ben is starting to get more and more busy with meetings and-"

"Excuse me," Mal interrupted. Antoinette turned to the purple haired girl, she hadn't noticed when she was talking that Jay had inched closer to her.

"Are you accusing us of stealing your dumb Auradon stuff?" Mal scoffed. Antoinette walked away from the game console, and leaned up against one of the bed posts.

"No. However, I am kindly reminding you, along with the rest of the students tomorrow that stealing and thievery are not necessary or taken kindly to here." Antoinette paused for a moment.

"Whose bed is this?" She asked, nodding towards the rumbled bed beside her.

"Um, mine," Jay said. Antoinette hummed for a second.

"How is it?" Antoinette asked, her arms crossed.

"What?" The others looked at the couple in confusion.

"Your bed. Is it comfortable?" She asked with a gentle smile.

"Yeah, you know, I haven't actually slept in it yet," Jay said, stretching. Antoinette hummed.

"Mmm. When I first came here, I couldn't sleep. Bed was way too soft, felt like I was sinking into a marshmallow." She turned and started walking towards the door. "I'll alert the cleaning crew that they were inadequate with making the beds, they'll come through in a few moments. After all, we want our lovely guests to feel comfortable, right?"

Her hand was on the doorknob as she finished her question. Antoinette was getting ready to turn the doorknob, when another hand landed on her hands. The hand was much darker then her pasty, almost sickly white skin, and although she felt plenty of callouses from years of use, no other hand had ever been gentler. Turning her head, the same painfully beautiful brown eyes stared back at her.

"You don't have to call anyone," Jay said, with patience that Antoinette had not seen from anyone before. Many before had been gentle and patient, but she had always wondered if they had hidden any sort of anger or annoyance towards her. She thought she would see flickers of emotions from others, but in Jay's eyes she saw only kindness. She shook herself.

"Okay. I would suggest putting everything in its rightful place if you don't want the cleaning crew to think things aren't where they belong," Antoinette said, slowly, trying to think carefully with her words. Jay nodded, and she left the dorm room. She didn't get far before leaning up against a wall. Antoinette took a long deep breath.

"Get a grip, Antoinette," she mumbled to herself.

Antoinette was walking to her classes. Her shoulders hunched in an attempt to hide herself in her red ringlets. Her nose was stuck in her phone per usual, looking at the media. She raised an eyebrow at a headline.

ATTEMPTED THIEVERY ON LOCAL CULTURAL MUSEUM; NOTHING TAKEN

Glazing over the article she noticed the alarm system had been set off, but was either an unsuccessful robbery, or an accident from faulty alarms. She paused for a moment, remembering a ten page essay due the next morning. She hummed to herself in thought, a thesis would be needed.

Writing on her screen she made a note to herself. Antoinette had been absorbed as usual in her phone, to the point where she ran into someone.

"I'm sorry. Sorry," she repeated. Antoinette turned her focus on the person she ran into and saw that it was Chad.

"Oh, it's you," she mumbled.

"I heard you got your wallet back," Antoinette said with a smirk.

"Yeah, I, uh, found it in my locker," He said. Antoinette nodded with an amused smile.

"That's good. It's good to know that you found your wallet in your locker."

"Are you done being sarcastic?"

"No. Maybe." Chad narrowed his eyes at her, and she laughed.

"I'm teasing you, Chad. You're a bit of a dummy, but I still love you," she said, wrapping an arm around his waist. Antoinette placed her phone in her back pocket. Chad set an arm on her shoulders.

"I was a jerk, wasn't I?" He said.

"The jerkest of jerks." She giggled back. Chad smiled back at her. The two walked to their classes.
