And, everyone else who've taken the time to read thank you.

Just a note to say this is all fiction … yep muse went into over drive, apparently baddies in stories needs names etc. … so no harm to anyone intended. And as usual mistakes and story holes are mine.

Enough said … On to Sam and Cam meeting up … and others getting in on the act.

Chapter 14

While following the officer to his debriefing with Sam, - information, guilt and anger churned through Cam's mind making him wonder how he should greet her, or how she would greet him, come to that. It should be fine, they were friends, served together on SG1 as equals and combining their skills won through some amazing adventures, above all else they had trusted each other. Now though she was in charge of this alien City and he had broken that trust, her husband had been in his care when this disaster struck. And shook his head with a slight smile as the memory of the meeting he'd just left, crashed in on him.

**With all those anxieties milling round his mind he had walked into the small infirmary room to give Sam and Teal'c an update, expecting them to be talking as they watched the sleeping 'child' General. Instead there was silence and only Teal'c, every inch the silent guardian 'father' watching over 'his' sleeping child, with only the silent green flashing light on the screen above the bed reassuring him everything was all right. Before Cam could say anything the Jaffa warrior glanced at him and with his serious expression and tone announced. "I have as you would say, 'kicked Samantha out'. So she could find sustenance in food and have fresh air. Also, it would stop her silently pacing the room in her mind as we sat together having discussed the situation to it's full extent." and then with his familiar serious nod finished. "I look forward to exchanging updates regarding the matters you have been dealing with."

Seeing the hint of a smile that had crossed Teal'c's face on the second reason for 'kicking' Sam out, and knowing the warrior was the only one who could do that to Sam and survive, Cam relaxed a bit and sat in the vacant chair before starting his update.

When they had finished their discussion, and even though Cam knew Teal'c's serious manner had not been judgemental on what had happened on the planet, and they were both relieved the actions The General had put in place had saved the nation, possibly even the earth's future. Cam had been swamped with so much guilt and anger he couldn't voice his farewell to Teal'c, so stood up and silently walked over to the archway to leave and face Sam and her reaction to his failure.

Only to be stopped in the archway by Teal'c's honest and gravely intoned. "CameronMitchell, as a friend and fellow warrior you were not to blame for what happened on that planet. You are a good leader as O'Neill expected you to be. And, you will make the right decisions regarding Doctor Jackson and SG1's future." As Cam turned to face him Teal'c changed his tone to the one of friendship and reminded him. "Though I no longer serve with you when I return to Chulak, it has been an honour being part of your team, and contact will still be possible and welcomed." Then with a slight nod, finished. "Now go. Samantha needs to hear your side of events and the recent update from Colonel Reynolds regarding the situation on earth."

Boosted by that unique support Cam quipped back "So, long distance phone chats are good then?" and got back that deep meaning. "Indeed." from Teal'c, which enabled him to clear his mind as he started to follow the waiting Officer along the corridor and through the infirmary.**

But now, the churning and guilt were back. - That as leader of SG1 he should have picked up on what was going on, seen through all the smokescreens that were put up, and stopped this disaster from happening. Ever since he'd started to fly the secret fighter planes and heard about Colonel Jack O'Neill, respected test pilot and leader of SG1, he'd wanted and aimed to follow in then man's footsteps and be a good leader. But not actually fill those shoes, the recent events had shown him no one could do that. So by failing to stop this disaster he'd let everyone down and Sam had every right to be very angry with him.

Still deep in thought and automatically turning the corner then walking through yet another archway, subconsciously expecting another corridor or the very odd elevators that gave you no idea what direction they were travelling at the end of it. Cam stopped dead with the exclamation "Wow!" escaping and clearing his churning thoughts completely.

Instead he'd walked on to a wide balcony and was outside the tower, with a gentle sea breeze around him with only a waist high guardrail and transparent fencing of some kind protecting him from falling into the ocean a long way down. No doors to open or hint of this from the corridor till now … So amazing and alien … And gradually realised this was a personal balcony that backed on to living accommodation, rather than the larger landing piers at sea level he had expected to come out on when Teal'c had told him Sam was waiting for him, and had seen back in SGC when looking over the photos of the Atlantis.

Gathering his thoughts, while glancing upwards and silently noting this tower like the rest seemed to carry on forever, he decided not even try to count levels above or below him. Instead he walked further along the balcony and turned his attention to the outer view, which confirmed that creeping feeling inside him ... he was just a vulnerable speck in a huge floating alien City ... especially as the ocean was unbroken to the horizon and beyond. No hint of land, ships or birds flying over to find that land … there was nothing … just the deep blue the sea, the gentle breeze and a few white clouds in the blue sky with the sun starting to go down some where.

Needing to bring himself back to the present and the right scale of things, Cam took a breath and turned his attention to what was actually on the balcony. Two chairs and a table with empty plates, bottles of water and cups on it, and knew if things had gone to plan, Sam and The General would have been eaten their meal together, - even found the view and silence comfortingly romantic, rather than threatening as he did. Instead, Sam had eaten alone with the worry of the future uppermost in her mind …. And realised there was another officer at 'parade rest' silently watching them. Her escort and support should it be needed, and Sam was ignoring his entrance and the sea view. … Intrigued and concerned he followed her gaze across and into the City's many towers. An amazing sight as they looked delicate but were so strong, so alien ... and couldn't stop the shiver running through him as he registered what was actually taking all her attention.

It was frightening and yet breathtakingly beautiful, and no matter how hard he looked, he couldn't make out whether there was a tunnel through it or it was a solid beam of bright sparkling golden energy, that seemed to be pouring from one tower to the other. Or it was just linking them so wasn't actually moving, and that pulsating or rippling movement was perhaps a forcefield stopping it falling down the gap between the towers, as nothing else seemed to support it. Nor could he see any openings in the two towers - it just seemed to soak into or come from their solid walls.

And heard Sam's calm voice explain. "The new rooms in the infirmary are at the top of the energy beam. The room shown on the computer in the Gate room is on either the first or ground floor of the other tower. To be honest, I don't know whether to fear or embrace it's disappearance. I know it is going to happen, and this is one of the functions of this City." then as she walked over to him, knowing he was still coming to terms with the whole thing, and she needed a diversion to stop her mind trying to analyse the impossible, added. "I take it you've seen Teal'c and the others."

Then stopping beside Cam, she addressed the Officer who'd escorted him."Thank you Matthew, we will make our own way back."

With his attention drawn back to Sam and the officer leaving them, Cam couldn't help a slight smile and comment. "Glad you know the way, I would have got lost in the first five minutes in spite of those briefings back at headquarters."

Remembering her early experiences and feeling the warmth of their friendship breaking through her worries, Sam laughed and quipped back. "Been there, done that, and had to admit it to them." then turning serious asked. "With hindsight and taking mitigating circumstances into consideration, do you think you can ever trust Daniel again? Have him as a member of your team?"

Considering how close Sam and Daniel had been Cam hadn't expected those questions in that manner or so soon and took a moment to think about it. Make sure it wouldn't be the emotional one that was swimming around his mind, and commented. "Never thought I'd talk to or listen to a stripped purple cat, let alone have a medical done by one. Have to say I'm asking for all my future medicals to be done by U Sang, a quick journey to this universe, no needles or bright lights, just sit there with his paws on your hands and breath calmly for a moment or two."

Smiling at his diversion Sam admitted. "A lot of officers here agree with you so U Sang is fairly busy. Just wait till you meet his travelling companion NightOwl. She'll turn everything you know on it's head, especially when she's flying in her dragon form..."

Though curious, that rush of guilt was back making Cam butt in. "I'm sorry, I failed you and The General. I should have..."

Sighing fully understanding the guilt he felt Sam stopped him. "Cam ... don't."

Ignoring her words he carried on. "No Sam. I need to explain how things were without hindsight, and the fact I saw The General arrive via the car park at the base. I was in the shadows and watched knowing there hadn't been a warning he was coming early. He was travelling light and out of uniform, stumbled once and from body language was extremely tired, seemed to argue with the two men escorting him to within feet of the entrance. They didn't go in with him, just watched and waited till he'd been acknowledged by the guard and disappeared inside before leaving."

"One grey haired the other dark haired and younger." Sam jumped in seeing the picture in her mind now she knew the situation behind it.

"Yes." Cam confirmed before adding heatedly. "It was a helicopter not a car. I can understand why now we know what had happened to him. But seeing that arrival I should have questioned the smoke screen he put up. I didn't. He seemed a bit like a kid let out of school early when I saw him talking to General Landry, after I'd signed in and got down to their level. Not a hint of tension or tiredness to be seen."

"Sounds like Gibbs and Tony escorted him in covert protected style, and Jack would have known he couldn't fight them, probably just needed to vent a bit before leaving them. You've also got to remember Jack is a master of deception and diversion, so don't beat yourself up about it." Sam said quietly, guessing it had not been an easy trip for trio, Jack and Gibbs were masters of pointed silences and Tony would have been in the middle of them trying to hold back his off the cuff comments to break the tension. Or if the transport staff could be trusted, it had been a brainstorming and planning session knowing Jack would have restricted access to the team and events once in the Mountain. Perhaps the whole Atlantis trip had been to keep him safe or as she'd thought was Earth's secret back up plan. Swallowing her anxieties she added. "No doubt that sudden arrival and the base getting ready for the Atlantis trip would have helped him." then needing to stop her mind from escaping down roads she couldn't control, and to keep Cam on track asked. "But what about Daniel?"

Recognising the names from the recent data burst, and needing her to understand the mood in SGC, Cam nodded and carried on. "We were also relieved that everything was not going public as rumoured. That one started because Walter and General Landry kept getting Davis instead of the General, who was apparently stuck in meetings that could not be interrupted. Now we know the truth about those meetings and the danger The General was in, everyone supports and admires him. They trust his words are his own and he is not the President's lapdog newbie General."

Sam couldn't help smiling at the reassurance that washed through her, she knew everyone in the Mountain considered themselves to be one tight family, and nodded her acceptance of Cam's emotional comment. Knowing full well a physical hug from him would have broken the barrier she'd built up to keep her emotions in check and she couldn't have that.

Seeing her reaction and the verbal hug was accepted Cam took a breath then got to the point. "As for Daniel. Well we thought he'd finally got over his sulks about not going to Atlantis with you or instead of you. And had stopped tutting over this one, knew he would probably kick off a bit at the General when they met up, but it would be coped with. Bantered out in private.

As you know he'd passed all the health tests after Merlin etc, even attended an extra check up and got the all clear. Trouble is we know all the answers to the questions. Teal'c and I kept asking him if he was all right especially after Vala had complained he was off. He covered it by saying extra work was taking up his time. That was true, there was a lot coming in so we couldn't fault him on that statement, and from then on he seemed more his old self. We all know missions do leave their mark and we've been on a lot of separate missions so there wasn't the closeness of team nights we used to do. On one of his visits to the mountain Teal'c mentioned Daniel had lied to him, so he couldn't go to the cabin to see Jon and the General. Thought it was just his pettiness about that relationship. I kept an eye on him, made sure Jon's name didn't come up in conversations and didn't really think any more of it."

Sam nodded, knowing Daniel had always found Jon and Jack hard to accept, the whole cloning episode as well, and commented. "We both know Daniel is not the innocent he used to be, but can still act like it and charm the birds out the trees if the need arises. He totally fooled me in the data bursts I got from him." and shrugged her shoulders knowing that was something she found very difficult to accept and asked. "Did he flip a switch and change to evil when on planet."

With a sigh Cam nodded then added with feeling. "Sort of. Unfortunately he didn't visibly grow horns to prove it, wish he had. The cunning was obviously there but so was the charm. Before we left base he promised The President, General Landry and The General ...

"Jack or O'Neill, not 'The General'." Sam butted in with a smile to take the edge off her words. She could hear Jack's tuts about being 'dead before his time' when he heard about the nickname or over heard it being used and tone of admiration that came with it. And, she didn't want it rubbed in at the moment with his life/future on a knife's edge.

"Okay." Cam sighed, and as he was still in awe of the man decided. "Jack is way too personal. So O'Neill then. But The General or General will slip out because that is who he is in my mind and deserves that extra respect."

Seeing her nod, he carried on. "Right. So Daniel promised everyone it was an important, safe, short greet and seek information for both sides visit, and we would be back on time. The President had rejected all General Landry's reservations when they'd talked on the red phone immediately after the video conference Daniel had dropped his bombshell in. The Gen.. O'Neill didn't get the chance to warn General Landry what was coming. Nothing was going to stop the visit so we pressed on and in the Gate room with the Stargate engaging …. O'Neill ran through the rules with us, but focused on Daniel re-time, no touching and respecting restriction regarding the artefacts the natives stated, and my orders were to be obeyed without question.

If Teal'c had been around he would have been our fourth, instead due to time restraints we had Captain Ashton, who was no match for Daniel on this occasion, and will probably have to re-do the training programme, if he hasn't asked to be reassigned already."

He sighed and admitted. "You would have loved meeting them. They are nice and very intelligent people. In the receiving group were male and female, both sets wore long flowing robes of various vibrant colours, possibly showing rank and job ... but not sure. Gentle voiced, short dark brown or blonde hair, round faces with deep blue eyes and skin colour ranging from light to deep/bright orange. As they were short and very slender in build they had no hope of physically dragging Daniel out the rooms on their own. That was why I had to get The.. O'Neill's help.." And paused, shaking his head to get rid of the vision that threatened to make him jump ahead. Then waited wondering if that quick flicker of a twitch on Sam's face was emotions getting the better of her, and he'd better get ready to duck as she lashed out in anger, or find a hanky and get ready to comfort her as she broke down because what had happened to her husband was all too much.

His pause and his concerned expression couldn't stop Sam's slight giggle that had built up, from escaping as she tried to explain what had caused her emotional twitch. So, she took a breath to calm it then managed to add. "I'm okay and so are you. I'm concerned but not angry at you, and I trust your version of what happened. It's just whispers of Jack's likely attitude and comments about the people and probably banter between him and Daniel that got to me." then emphasised gently. "I do need to know what Daniel was like."

Cam found himself relaxing again, Sam wasn't going over the edge, she was in command and remembering snippets of comments between the team about the 'old days', he thought for a moment then answered. "We didn't have any heavy luggage so FRED stayed behind, and Daniel took his own bag of goodies. He was like he always is when he gets his own way ... buoyant and full of his project. O'Neill stayed quiet and focused during the very quick briefing, giving silent nods when Doctor Jackson went into details about protocol, it was General Landry who pushed things on and told Daniel to keep to the point. He also insisted that The General ... sorry ... O'Neill and I went through first, with Daniel and the captain a moment behind to make sure the protocol Daniel had commented on was right. Daniel went into overdrive about the difficulty of it all, so he should be first and do the greeting, but General Landry got his way.

Before you ask I'm not going to attempt to pronounce their name or the greeting. Luckily they gave us translators after the greeting and they worked very well. But first we needed to meet and greet those Elders. We stepped through the Gate onto a platform and to stop a pile up when the others came through we stepped aside next to some lights that glowed. As O'Neil got closer to them they got brighter and flicked on and off." He pause for a moment then added. "That might have shown them how strong his Ancient Gene was, or perhaps it was the fact he didn't put a foot wrong in the protocol or language in the greeting, right down to the slight nod that was needed when pronouncing their names. Or even the commanding presence he gave off as soon as he stepped through the Gate. Whatever it was they gave him their immediate respect and attention as leader of our group. And perhaps that was what bugged Daniel on the planet and set him off."

Knowing Jack could command a room, and would mess things up to break tension or get Daniel back on track, Sam got her own thoughts back in order, nodded then added. "That would have bugged Daniel, he's always found it difficult to appreciate Jack's strengths, unless they were right in front of him and were needed to get us safely home. Once home he would revert to thinking it was Jack's fault etc. So Jack did the meet and greet with flying colours."

Cam nodded, glad she wasn't breaking down and re-tracking his thoughts carried on. "Looking back and with hindsight Daniel's niggles to the Elders were to make them understand he was the expert and we were their just to make up numbers. Whereas with General Landry and the President thought it was the other way round, I should have been wise to that twist.

Before we split up the Guardian of the building that housed the library and artefacts, explained that the separate room inside, contained the ancient machine that safeguarded their life, was locked and off limits to everyone. They accepted … no they didn't expect O'Neill to in the library so we were taken to another area to look round and chat. With no disrespect to Daniel or the Captain, O'Neill quietly emphasised the rules to them, but we all knew it was aim at Daniel, and then he and I left them with their guide.

With hindsight I should have babysat Daniel, he would have kicked up about it but it might have stopped what happened. When the time came the Captain reminded Daniel of the time to go so they would have to pack up etc. Got totally ignored but Daniel made a comment to the helper with him that he, Daniel, knew exactly what the time and what he was doing. The Captain came to get me and due to protocol had to stay with O'Neill. Goodness knows how Daniel managed to get the key, to that room ... but he did. But that's jumping ahead, this time he was on the far side of the main room and his comeback to my order was … 'there's plenty of time, The General's being his usual bossy sourpuss self and you know it."

Seeing Sam's raised eyebrows, Cam nodded and confirmed. "Yes he used 'The General' and 'that' tone of his that says he is the genius who knows everything so his word is absolutely correct. I couldn't physically fight him as he was holding a fragile artefact in his hands and wasn't going to put it down. I'm sure he was looking at the others on the table near him so he could add one or damage them if I made a move towards him. True horns didn't show or eyes glow but he was being openly crafty and stubborn. Faced with that I decided to walk out, reminding him as I went we had to go so pack up and come up and join us. Now not later."

Cam sighed feeling that helplessness/anger again, then hoping she would understand exclaimed. "Sam! I honestly thought that with no audience to carry on moaning at he would shut up, see sense remember his promises, the time limit and come up. I also needed to explain the delay to O'Neill as the train ride back to the Stargate would take a while. As it turned out we took the shorter direct route back. The route out was apparently to show off their beautiful city and advanced way of life, which I hope has survived. Perhaps if the guide had stayed with him things would have been different, but he didn't, he came up with me to explain Daniel's refusal and rudeness to the Guardian and the Elders.

To cut the story short that was when things really went south, and we had to physically drag Daniel out of the building. The .. O'Neill really let rip when he saw what was going on, the door to the restricted was room open and Daniel was fussing round the destruct machine exclaiming 'it was all right, it was the giver of life not the destroyer, the people thought it was and he was going to prove it.'

The natives would have been flattened so we rushed into the restricted room with lights flashing, sirens blaring and possibly a countdown going on. I made a grab for Daniel as O'Neill seemed to study the machine for a moment, for all I know did an Ancient thought thing to try and turn it off. Pretty sure he did flick a switch of some kind before he came and grabbed the other part of Daniel I couldn't get hold of. The Captain wisely made a beeline for Daniel's stuff and scooped them up and dashed out the building. We didn't discuss any of it just moved on instinct. As you can imagine The Guardian, helper and Elders were not only horrified by it all but were rushing around and wanted us to leave immediately so we could get through the Gate in safety. I assume they were also warning others as they'd reverted to their own language and the translators we used stopped picking it up.

The man was a slippery eel but we managed get him onto the train and once it started the only noise on the fast shorter journey back to the Stargate, was him jabbering non-stop about how right he was. That it was a life giver not a destroyer, no one need fear it and everything he'd found out proved it. Along with the fact he shouldn't have been interrupted, we had the minute or two he needed to finish his work. Outside it was like a ghost city, not a person or vehicle in sight, they must have had a really good evacuation system, probably underground as there wasn't a queue at the Stargate.

I don't think it was my imagination, but I think the Stargate was protected by a forcefield shield as we had to walk through a different archway to get to it, and once through it the Elder seemed slightly more relaxed than before. Of course, while we were waiting for the Gate to connect to SGC Daniel carried on jabbering that Woosley wouldn't dare leave without 'the General' and as it was taking time to connect he could go back and finish his work, give the people the life and security they wanted. Forgetting of course the people were not concerned about it in the first place. It was the other artefacts and writing they had wanted to show him and exchange views and advice on, and that bit happened. It was just that damn machine he was wrong on."

Cam huffed and with a shrug of his shoulders then exclaimed. "Honestly, I don't know how O'Neill kept his cool on the planet or back at Headquarters finding Woosley had gone to Atlantis, and that he was banned from catching him up. Of course, Daniel wasn't repentant just kept out of everyone's way and then reported to General Landry making light of the whole matter with the blame on the General's shoulders for the scene at the end. I'm not surprised O'Neill left the mountain to stop himself from strangling Daniel, I would have if I'd found him. But I didn't go looking for him, to busy writing my report etc.

As for this morning, that was surreal not only seeing the General's uniform child size but Daniel insisting it was all a joke being played by O'Neill on him so we should ignore it all. When Jon contacted us and then turned up with Cassie, Daniel claimed they were in on it. Must admit once over the shock of Jon's story General Landry didn't hold back, and Daniel was escorted wherever he went, and everything was double checked including the planet address in case Daniel had deliberately tampered with it. It was the same address and of course no connection was made."

Seeing Sam's shocked silent shake of her head at that, he added. "The Data burst confirmed they still can not contact the planet, but they are checking all Daniel's notes about timing as that was important to him, and will find out if the rotation of the planet has anything to do with lack of connection." and was glad to see Sam's nod at the possibility and knew she was back with him.

Satisfied with his own thoughts and feelings he went on. "You asked do I trust Daniel or want him in the field again. No I don't. I'm not sure I can believe a word that comes out of his mouth. He's still ignoring orders and broken the device O'Neill gave him to look after. So I'm torn between chucking him off Atlantis, the programme, possibly earth or just tell Vala she can take him and keep him this time. I need time to calm down, but, from what I've heard I think she might be first in line to open the Gate and throw him out."

Taking a moment to gather her own shocked thoughts and feelings about her friend, and knowing the hurt from the trust he had broken would run deep for all of them, Sam asked. "Supposing U Sang is right and it is an entity and Atlantis clears it from Daniel completely, Jack recovers completely, Jon is healed in mind and body, the planet and people are unharmed and the mess on earth is sorted out so we can go home and back to work. Would that make any difference to the way you feel towards Daniel."

Cam sighed and thought back through the weird experience of talking to … rather having a striped purple cat talk to him ...

As he did so, Sam, keeping her feelings out of her voice explained, "Cam, if we can not trust Daniel then I'll have to tell General Landry to send him to the brig or the secure jail on alpha site till we know he is safe, and that could be for the rest of his life. Or of course, that very last resort a flick the switch or zapped three times. I will do if I have to, but I need to be sure everyone is with me on this, and that will include Jack when he wakes up."

Cam shivered realising the enormity of that decision, they had all made life and death decisions in the heat of the battle or mission. This one would be made in the cold light of day and to a friend and colleague they respected, loved like a brother in Sam's case. Taking a breath and letting it out slowly he ticked off the points running through his mind before saying. "Assuming we can prove without a shadow of a doubt that U Sang is right. And, Daniel is found to be totally clear of any entity then he would need to have extra guards with him if he was going off world. Or even in his lab so we can check all his movements. I know you are going to say these things can happen in a split second, but Daniel has been possessed so many times he must have known what was happening. He helped set up the protocol we follow so why did he either duck out of it, ignore it, or deceive us. U Sang said he sensed the entity was one that grew rather than a complete one that took take over in seconds, so Daniel must have sensed it and was either too stubborn to admit it or wanted to wait and see what happened. His thoughts and his actions.

I know he's valuable and I do respect him, but he's also a liability because he believes and knows he is a genius in his work so ignores what we say, but can also be the concerned soul that grounds us. The first bit has to change, really change. Trouble is we both know he'll try and crawl out of any blame because good things have come of this. But think of the cost not only to The General but to that planet if we find out it has gone or if it hasn't the shock of what happened has drastically changed the people and their lives."

He sighed and thought back to his talk with Teal'c then added. "To be honest with you, I'm going to tell General Landry to close SG1 down when I get back. Teal'c has promised to answer any long distance calls we make for help or just to catch up, and you'll be here or on another command in Space, so it will never be the same. And, I don't want another team. I'm not sure the other teams would want me tagging along on for the long term. I'm not ready for a desk job yet so will have to take some time to think that one out, because I don't want to leave the programme."

Sam nodded as she took in all of his comments and what came across in his body language, checked them against her own views and talk with Teal'c, then said quietly. "Thank you for your honesty and I want to assure you we can trust U Sang. I think if Daniel is given the all clear by everyone he should spend time away from the field work and tensions. Perhaps go back to working away from SGC for a while and that would be done under supervision. I can't say being on Atlantis would be peaceful, but we can programme the City to keep a very close eye on him and there are a few officers who will not be over awed by his attitude or knowledge so they could shadow him and Vala if she stayed as well." She paused and with a change of tone added. "If you are looking for another job there might be one at the Ancient Waterfall near Jack's cabin."

At his questioning look she smiled realising he wouldn't have seen the video and then carried on. "Sitting watching Jack sleep I thought about all the Ancient things that might be there. You might need Gene therapy so you can fly a jumper, but we now know they have gadgets that convert machines so non Ancients can use them rather than us having to jerry-rig them. The site is very isolated so we could build a small base, beam or fly people in from SGC or outer space. You could help build up new teams for SGC or Atlantis.

I hope to set something up and possibly run it with Jack's help of course. I don't think he will be going back to DC he knows that his cover story for this mission will have the other staff and Generals second guessing what ever he says or does. He had a hard job getting back trust after the business with Kinsey and he was a Colonel then and the ripples were felt within SGC not just outside the Mountain." She changed her tone to bring that part to an end as she finished. "Now, any extra news from Gibbs and his team. I know from the short message that the baddies were falling like dominoes, but still no actual name of the person behind it."

Cam couldn't believe what he was hearing as his mind raced round all possibilities and couldn't help a slight smile, fully understanding Teal'c's words about Sam pacing the room in her mind, and his need to kick her out. Her mind must have been buzzing sooo much ... and sighed trying hard to get his thoughts back in order, and couldn't resist saying. "I like the idea, but have a favour and an exchange of videos."

Sam smiled guessing what it would be so nodded, and let him carry on.

"I see the one of the child General and of the waterfall you mentioned. And I'll show you the one of the NCIS team and SGC back up team arresting the public face of the group that were going to take down the President and rule America first, and then possibly the world." He paused for a second seeing the light of excitement in Sam's eyes, but wanting her to understand why he asked, and unable to stop the shiver of the memory run through him once again, explained quietly. "I was up with Colonel Reynolds when the child General ordered us … Jon and Teal'c to stand down. Heard the explosion and waited … hardly breathing as we heard Jon's plea for him to answer. Felt the huge relief of the answer, saw Jon, Teal'c and Lou disappear, then Lou's short burst regarding the damage, and Teal'c's alert that the child General was safe. At that point I was beamed back to SGC to report to General Landry and from then on it's been the roller coaster of a very weird day. No matter what I do my mind jumps back to that explosion and that waiting so I need something to stop it."

Sam nodded understanding that reaction then added. "Teal'c said you would need to see it, and I agree, but it is for your eyes only. Happy for you to discuss it amongst our group as it's fun to watch once you get past the horrors of the wreck of the hut." Her own excitement came through as she carried on. "What Lou has managed to catch of the waterfall is grainy and fascinating. Especially when you consider a platform strong enough to take spaceships rises from the water and the cave was used as a storage area. Can't wait to see it in real life." Then to stop her mind running down the scientific possibilities again she took a breath then added. "So, details of what's happening on earth. The headlines were short and to the point, typical of Gibbs and just like Jack when you think about it." she'd finished with a smile that faded to tension as her communicator went.

Checking it she added. "Grab a drink from the table while I get this." Then answered it with a mixture of dread and hope saying. "U Sang thank you for calling, how are things?" Then listened to U Sang's update with guarded relief, before finishing. "That's good news, we will check with Jon on the details as he is awake and around. I will be returning to Jack's side in a short while and will keep you informed of any changes. Thank NightOwl for her help this morning and I hope she has a good flight and feed. And you have a good night."

Walking over to Cam understanding his puzzled expression Sam enlightened him. "U Sang has seen Daniel and believes he is clear of the entity, but will need meditation sessions to settle his mind and body now it has gone. U Sang or Teal'c can do those, Jon and then Jack will be able to confirm or deny Daniel's account of things. I suspect Atlantis will be able to as well as it was apparently done in the special tower, we should be able to access that computer in the Gateroom with John or Rodney's help. Jury will be out on Daniel till everyone has their say so he'll go round with an escort, and knowing him he'll want to get his word in quickly so I need to get back to Jack. No doubt Jon and Teal'c will be chatting so he'll contact me to say I can go back. Teal'c insisted I wait for his word so I'll have to wait. So, how is General Landry coping with Gibbs and his team."

Cam laughed feeling some of his tension disappear and between sips of water he explained. "Well he'd like his mountain back to the quiet of the old times."

Surprised Sam exclaimed with a smile. "Think he's got a short memory about that. How are the teams working together."

"Fine, though General Landry does wonder if it is a requisite to being Ancient and team leader, that they disappear on him as then Colonel O'Neill did on General Hammond. But I'll come back to that bit in moment. He also states they are hard on the outside to everyone else but have a respectful softer centre when it comes to their team, which has at least one member who though obviously intelligent drives everyone mad." and smiling finished. "Note he didn't say genius."

Sam laughed at his comment then added. "I'm guessing the whole team are teasing Gibbs about being Ancient and he tolerates it, we did the same with Jack." then paused for a moment quickly thinking about her time here on Atlantis and continued. "Well, Colonel Sheppard, he's Ancient, a maverick who tolerates Rodney, and he drives anyone mad, the whole team have been known to disappear but not beamed up like Jack or the rest of SG1 had been. He'll go that extra mile for his team just like Jack and Gibbs would.

I'm guessing Tony DiNozzo is the one driving them nuts with film music and quotes from all things Ancient and Science Fiction. He's certainly not to be underestimated as he's a very good detective, in fact Tim McGee and Ellie Bishop who would have helped Jack and Gibbs set it all up are not to be underestimated regarding their computer and finding hidden information wizardry either."

Realising Sam knew the team Cam butted in. "You've got that right about DiNozzo. The music and quotes were from The Sting and Elliot Ness and The Untouchables films because that is how the main bit was done. The 'Sting' stage was a conference room and the good guys stormed in but no guns blazing. The baddies had already handed their guns over to the 'innocent' looking security guard on the door. Who just happened to belong to our Security lot in borrowed clothes. I'd don't know about the rest of the raids as the information burst was Gibbs reporting to O'Neill who of course knows the finer details, rather than to Richard and myself who haven't a clue so have to pick up the bread crumb trail. General Landry is still keeping Gibbs in the dark about our 'child' General. Not too sure how long that will last though."

He stopped, then admitted seriously and quietly. "I can't get used to the time difference, we are still in day one here, but days have passed on earth. So the round up arrests have been done, and now the paperwork and tidying up phase is in hand, the charges along with the press being handled so very sensitive information is under wraps. The upshot is the President, the Programme and Country are safe. Unfortunately Richard Woolsey didn't get all the good news he'd hoped for regarding his friends at the IOA he had been worried about. So, he is mourning the loss of one and the knowledge the other is in critical condition but they believe will pull though. At least the infiltrators have been arrested and the rest of the IOA are clean and trust him. He's actually not bad to work with and has a good grasp of the situation ... it's just he looks as though he wouldn't say 'boo' to anyone.

Apparently Tim McGee and Ellie Bishop using their skills and found that particular hide out from traces Abby gathered from the helicopter Colonel Reynolds took from the sky … was going to say this morning but that's not right for earth timing." and sighed.

"It's okay I understand" Sam butted in knowing how confusing timing was, then reviewing Cam's information added. "So, it's a large group of people with various businesses and gathering places. Any connection with the Stargate Programme as they used Zats when trying to kidnap Jack?"

Glad to move on to what he knew and understood Cam answered easily. "Not at the moment. Though hints of The Trust and past NID have been found, so it could be the Zats were a one off from them. Teams are checking all storage areas and links from them to make sure nothing is missed, that will take time to its all going to run on for months. Because Colonel Reynolds and USS Odyssey were involved they could control communications and cover the other gathering places without them or the main group realising what was happening. There are a lot of innocent bystanders or workers who are realising they've been duped so firms and livelihoods are being affected."

With a slight smile and shake of his head he commented. "If ever we need to do the same kind of thing we'll go to O'Neill to get the plans for the ground work and Gibbs team to run it through. From the bits we know they didn't have clue that meeting was a set up, they incriminated themselves through what they discussed and through emails, business links the lot. As the cryptic note said they went down like dominoes after the first one was tipped."

Sam couldn't help smiling while imaging the scene and commented. "Those two make a wicked team by themselves. So the team swooping in is on the disc, and you want to share with me and Jack when he wakes.

Cam chucked and nodded then remembering it in detail told his story. "Beautifully filmed as they all had body-cams. The doors swung open and in marched the teams, Gibbs and DiNozzo down the main aisle with McGee and Bishop down the other one, with SGC security team in plain clothes bringing up the rear, casually sealing the aisles so members couldn't make a run for it."

As you can imagine the members looked puzzled at these people silently walking towards the main table, and silently assumed they must be other players come to talk to them. So the team got to the main table and the speaker who was watching them stated sternly but politely 'You are in the wrong room. This is a private meeting.' To which DiNozzo quoted loudly while producing his badge, 'No mistake sir. This is very very special NCIS Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs who will explain the charges and read you your rights, and the rest of us are very special NCIS agents here to arrest everyone else. The men in aisle are to stop anyone from leaving and please do not try to ring your lawyer as he has been detained as well.

At which point DiNozzo stepped back to cover the others while Gibbs calmly announced. 'Senator Raymond Droper you are being arrested for conspiracy to harm the President of the United States and Country by kidnapping and possibly murdering the President's first cousin, also the attempted kidnapping and murder of an Air Force General and seriously injurying his Marine driver. As well as numerous other charges that will be specified later.' As you can imagine there were gasps of horror and disbelief."

Sam giggled, she couldn't help it, the pictures that flashed across her mind were not only of the scene but also her last data burst with Jack and his comments, which she hadn't understood till now. Seeing Cam's expression she took a breath to calm herself and then explained. "Jack must have known he was going to miss the showdown and felt a bit peeved. The last data burst we had together he was doodling a Ram's head and muttering about everyone following a new Senator like sheep, but didn't say his name or details and I knew better than to press the point. He must have found it hard to keep civil and stop all those sheep jokes coming out. Bet DiNozzo enjoyed himself as well."

Smiling at that Cam said "No surprise there, Raymond is Junior and his family's history, fortune and livelihood is in Droper Sheep. Farms are fairly isolated so they used their own helicopters etc to move around, people come and go and no one takes much notice. Lots of influence and connections in many States and have diversified into many business and are … were still growing. So lots to take down and apart."

Understanding that story would run into the future Sam butted in. "Do you know anything about the attempted kidnapping of the Cousin of the President"

Cam shook his head and sighed. "No detail. Just that the President wants to give Gibbs and O'Neill awards for it, and Gibbs isn't too keen on him being singled out, wants the team to take the credit. It was O'Neill who spotted the Cousin was a weak link and leverage to get to the President, the team made sure it didn't happen. From the clipped comments reckon the baddie insider believed it had happened, threatened the President with unknown witness present thereby closing that trap in a way there was no wriggling out of it. Probably confirmed the link with the Senator and his gang if he or she 'sang' afterwards. Gibbs used code names but did confirm the people around the President could now be trusted a hundred percent. As can the President and Vice President. So it is safe for everyone to return home. Also added your brother and family were safe through out and didn't realise they'd been protected."

Sam knew Jack would back Gibbs up regarding awards, they both preferred they went to the teams and Jack couldn't wear half of his anyway. Raise too many questions. Let Cam's words register raised her eyebrows that anyone would think Mark could be in danger, then realised if someone dug deeply enough her connection to Jack was there and as she wasn't available to be threatened, Mark might have been. Jack had thought of that and let her mind jump to her other thought knowing Teal'c was likely to contact her soon asked. "So who made Gibbs and team disappear, because Thor isn't around any more to do it. And more importantly are they back?"

Cam laughed and then turned serious. "Don't know. In the background of the second Data burst was Walter passing on information to Colonel Reynolds on the Odyssey in the hope Gibbs and team hadn't left them or as soon as possible. Gibbs had ordered the beam up and taken the special security team along with them. General Landry walked in just as they disappeared and got the gist of why from a message left behind. What set whole thing in motion was a property in Israel being blown up killing a mother and daughter and information from a close friend in the FBI that a rogue CIA agent was involved and they needed to talk and act immediately. Hence the beam up."

Sam gasped in shock and exclaiming softly. "Ziva and Tali. Tony's wife and child been in hiding..."

Recognising the names Cam immediately jumped in. "The message Walter was trying to get to them was that mother and daughter are alive and safe if a bit smoky. And the request that Doctor Mallard be secretly flown in to check them over."

Seeing Sam's look of relief Cam carried on. "Apparently it gave Lou and his team a scare of a lifetime, as well as the mother and daughter, who hadn't understood what was going on. One second she must have been protecting her daughter as the building blew up around her … either grabbing daughter and go bag and running or crouching over those two as the bag came with her into O'Neill's cabin."

Sam laughed with relief and understanding, then got herself under control and said quietly. "He must have given them one or two of our special charms Thor gave us before the end. I only wear mine when I'm on earth and out of the mountain. It could sense the intense heat of the explosion or her alarm at the whole thing or you activated it when in danger. She could have been holding Tali or Jack had programmed it to include her or given them one each now Tali is mobile. He must have told her it would take her somewhere safe, but not how and they were beamed straight into the panic room."

Cam nodded. "Those who've been to the cabin know about the room and as Lou was with his team, who were using the lounge area as a conference room, he managed to get them to stand down as she came flying out the room. Singed round the edges, coughing, dazed and angry ready to protect her daughter from all danger. That must have been some stand off, but once Lou got the story he rang it through to SGC. Doubt there will be anything left of the rogue agent as the Security team probably had zats with them. General Landry is keeping an eye on the reports about the explosion and will work out how they can keep the family safe, either at the mountain or O'Neill's cabin."

The bleep of Sam's communicator stop Cam, Sam automatically nodded as she took in the details and answered the bleep with a sharp. "Teal'c! I'm coming back." Before the person on the other end had any hope of announcing themselves.

The person commented back … and when the voice registered ... Sam gave a soft giggle of delight before exclaiming the obvious back to the person. "Jon! You're okay, been talking to Teal'c that's why you are using his com." then took a breath, brought the right thoughts to the front of her churning mind and stated. "According to U Sang, Daniel believes he saw you and Jack and is now cured of the entity that had taken him over. Is that true or is it just his imagination?

She listened to Jon's short answer, compared it to U Sang's conversation then added. "Right, Daniel is bound to make for Jack's room as he thinks I'll be there, so I'm coming back. I don't want him near Jack till I've had a word with him. But, I don't want either you or Teal'c being the ones to stop him." And listened to Jon's reply.

Finishing his drink Cam got the gist of the one sided conversation, and knew they'd have to rush back to the infirmary if they were going to beat Daniel with Vala in tow. And was brought out of his musings by Sam's sudden sharp gleeful exclamation. "Really! And will it be safe?"

As well as her quick movements back towards the table where he was standing as she carried on. "Cam needs to come back with me. So for two not one."

With silent trepidation Cam recognised her change of mood to one of 'excited scientist trying something new', as she picked up the small disc from the table, then making sure she was clear of any obstruction placed it on the floor. As she stepped away from it he noted the flicker of green and red round the edge and realised this was the Ancient forcefield disc, that had become the chair then became the disc, which Teal'c said had followed her like a shadow when he'd 'kicked' her out the room.

And was brought back to the moment by Sam unclipping her communicator and saying into it. "Right, going to put it on the disc now." and did so.

After that she gave Cam a quick glance and smile, before looking over her shoulder at the Officer who had been standing silently at parade rest through out and saying. "Joseph. Cam and I will step into the forcefield and take the quick route back to just outside the Infirmary. Warn them we will be coming and clear the corridor. I don't want to frighten the patients by suddenly turn up there in the same way Jack did earlier. What you've seen and have heard stays on the balcony and out of reports, any trouble you come back to me."

And got a respectful smile and "Yes Ma'am" back.

Knowing Joseph would make the call immediately Sam turned her attention back to Cam adding. "When we step into the circle, which will no doubt turn into seats for both of us, clear your mind and think of the infirmary. Jon thinks as it followed me Jack programmed it to bring me back when needed. Just to make sure Jon's going to give a voice command over the communicator." and smiled at Cam's apprehensive expression, then reassured him. "Jack wouldn't want any harm to come to me, we both know that. Trust him and Jon."

Cam nodded, he'd seen what the General and Sam meant to each other at their wedding, respected them both and trusted Sam with his life, and watched the disc suddenly come to life. The red and green bands round the outside of the disc were glowing brighter and flashing faster as if to show the forcefield was working. The flickering band increased in size as it spreading out, with a near transparent flooring that was obviously meant to be stepped on, or would become the base of the chair they had seen earlier.

Still smiling with anticipation Sam held out her hand to a still hesitant Cam, and said. "We stand either side of the disc and Jon said it might be wise to hold hands as it is the two of us. I'll tell him when we are ready. Okay?"

Cam took a breath and trying to clear his mind of worry, nodded then walked over to her. Then taking her hand, trusting her completely, stepped into the circle.

Both made sure they were clear of the disc then Sam said loudly. "We are there and ready Jon."

It's doubtful they heard Jon's command words as they immediately felt the rush of the forcefield building up a red and green energy bubble around them.

Joseph was still connected to the Infirmary as he watched the bubble build up then immediately in a flash of red and green vanished leaving nothing but silence behind it. That is till Joseph exclaimed in shock "They've vanished! … completely."

oxoxo

In the Infirmary Doctor Jennifer Keller getting over the shock of Joseph's exclamation immediately replied. "Stay on the line I'll check the corridor." and left the handset on the table. Passing a nurse she said quietly. "Keep an eye on things. I'm checking the corridor and will call back a message for the officer on the phone." Without question the nurse took up her station by the phone while checking the room.

Standing in the doorway rather than out in the corridor, Jennifer was relieved to note it was completely empty of people and strange things appearing out of nowhere. Then realised she was wrong, the air or something in the air was shimmering. Possibly reddish and greenish ... and saw a human-sized bubble materialize just down the corridor from her. Watched as the red and green flashing rim gradually got larger as it dropped to the floor revealing Sam and Cam holding hands and obviously startled by what had happened and where they were.

Relieved, Jennifer called back to the nurse by the phone. "Tell the officer, it's all right they have arrived." then turned her attention back to the pair saying. "That was quick, Joseph was just finishing explaining you were coming by forcefield chair when you both became a red and green bubble and vanished."

As Cam stepped out of the circle with a shake of his head, not sure whether he liked that travel or not, his mind had still to catch up with reality of being somewhere different.

Gathering her racing thoughts Sam picked up the handset from the disc and said into it. "Jon you never said we would teleport!" and laughed at his reply as she stepped out of the circle. They all watched as the forcefield become the very innocent hand disc again before Sam turned to Jennifer adding. "That was smoother than the Gate, I feel as though I've not left the balcony, which is a bit disconcerting. Jon gave me a choice of places to come back to outside Jack's room or this corridor I chose this one so I could explain things to you or a nurse as we walk through."

Smiling, Jennifer led the way into the infirmary as she commented. "He didn't say how you would travel."

"No, the little devil didn't. Said he didn't want to scare us." Sam finished with a shake of her head and then turned serious adding. "Daniel is awake and will probably on the warpath to get his side of the story to me first. Let him through but with a reminder he has to consider the other patients so no outbursts. I take it Jon has been checked over?"

Looking towards the corridor to the new rooms at the end of the infirmary Jennifer nodded then confirmed. "Yes he's been checked over, found to be fully fit. I think I should warn you he's changed a bit."

At Sam's worried glance, Jennifer added. "In a good way. He's waiting for you." and made a mental note she needed to check Sam and possibly Cam as well after that trip, but not yet. Would just keep a silent eye on them.

With Cam behind her, Sam followed Jennifer's glance and seeing the figure waiting for them quickened her pace. While her mind raced through the differences, the darker hair, rounder face, slightly stockier build and was glad some things hadn't changed, his eyes and smile, as well as that air of casual command and knowledge. And felt a deep calmness settle within her knowing that Jon wasn't Jack's clone any more ... that fine thread of emotion she had with Jack, that had naturally copied itself into Jon was gone, had been turned into deep friendship for both of them instead.

Stopping a few paces in front of him, Sam smiled.

Jon nodded to Cam who was smiling as well, and then asked. "You like them Auntie Sam?" knowing she would understand the underlying question without having to refer to their other connection in public.

Sam laughed at that and nodded, then following Jon to just outside Jack's room where Cassie and Teal'c were watching and waiting in the archway to the room, she added. "Yes to all of them. So, we are going to be Aunts and Uncles to both of you and I take it you approve, Cassie?"

Smiling Cassie came over to Sam hugged her, then answered. "Yes, and we are going to stay on Atlantis and marry here. You and Jack have always been Aunt and Uncle to me and we both want you to stay family."

Glancing over at Teal'c who'd stayed where he was Sam asked hopefully. "Is there any change?"

"He is still stable and sleeping." Teal'c intoned then added. "Perhaps JonO'Neill-Frazer should tell you his experiences and the significances of his changes before they go to their new quarters for the night. Or DoctorJackson interrupts us." and then moved so they were away from the archway without actually losing sight of the sleeping child as they talked, as there was not enough room for them in the room.

It was done in his usual silent manner so the group shuffled to the other side of the corridor without really realising it, and as Sam's mind ticked that box, her natural curiosity made her ask Jon. "So did you or Atlantis decide on the changes."

"You could say we both did, I wanted something that was connected with family if possible but nothing drastic. The changes and healing happened on the way back from the mind room. I heard the whispered word Mother so I assume they've come from her DNA found in mine from Jack. Must admit I like them, also something about life span but not sure what that means yet. But I do feel more settled in my skin, guess the rest will come over time, after all it has only just happened.

I think Jennifer is going to put all the information she's gathered through the computer and compare it with my old stuff and see what comes out. As for the trip to the mind room and seeing Jack and Daniel was amazing … a bit scary when I was on my own, felt better after building a campfire for company and as no alarms went off understood it was in my mind. Perhaps I didn't travel anywhere and the idea was put in there by seeing the what was on the computer screen in the Gate room, and it was information that travelled. However it was done I can confirm I did see Jack and Daniel, and Daniel came in like an angry bull … no idea what he went out like because Jack told me to leave, and for once I didn't argue." Seeing their expressions, he added with a sigh. "Okay not much, just made sure the old man was all right with me leaving."

With a slight smile at that Sam said quietly, "So he was angry with Jack." then added realising Jon hadn't met them yet. "I mentioned U Sang when we talked just now, he's a purple stripped feline, doctor of mind and body in this universe, and you'll all meet him and his companion NightOwl probably tomorrow rather than this evening. Did you actually see Jack cure Daniel and the entity come out of him? U Sang, and can trust him says he'll need mediation to stabilize his mind. Sort of even it out so he can be himself again."

As Jon got his mind round the idea of talking purple cats and Nightowl who by name had to be an owl of some kind, as well as how to give a brief convincing answer that Sam needed. Everyone's attention was drawn towards the disturbance from the infirmary that was coming their way. They could see Daniel marching towards them with Vala hard on his heels exclaiming sharply and loudly. "Daniel stop! This is not the time! You need to settle your mind. Then tomorrow or the next day you can ask about Jack's past. They are not going to gang up on you!"

Not wanting the confrontation to take place directly outside Jack's room Sam with Teal'c following moved up towards the entrance archway but not out into the infirmary to meet the couple. She didn't want the confrontation out there, it needed to be in the corridor and as private as they could get it and definitely before Jack's room.

Staying clear of the archway into the room and knowing it was better Sam and Teal'c met Daniel first, Jon answered her question. "The abbreviated version is when Daniel didn't respond to Jack's words Jack commanded Atlantis to do her job. A golden bubble came out from tunnel/tube chamber thing that connects to the containers on the wall and covered Daniel. After a while the bubble lifted leaving Daniel unconscious and it had enclosed struggling energy inside it. That went into the incinerator chamber, which is different from the other one and there was a flash of light and energy and it was gone. I think Jack could tell it had gone. I've no idea how Daniel woke up or feels now but by the sounds of things he's could be either."

Walking through the archway, with Vala behind him who was clamping down on another terse comment that threatened to come out, Daniel's determination to get there, the need to know details and his churning mind and emotions geared up to the fact no one would believe him. Meant he only half registered Jon's last words, but emphasised that Jon was in the group so this was a barrier not a group of friends. And stopping just short of Sam, and ignoring Teal'c's silent warning glare exclaimed excitedly and loudly. "Sam! I am myself again. Jon knows it! He was there when Jack told the Golden chamber to work it's magic. I talked to Jack is he okay … everything is going to be all right. I didn't realise what was happening …

And stopped.

Everyone else had already stopped listening to him. Because, Daniel and the others felt the fine hairs on the back of their necks were tingling with the change in the atmosphere ... That instinctive warning that something was about to happen.

And it did.

In the first few seconds it was just an extremely bright light that came through the outer walls of Jack's room. There was no physical damage to the walls then or as it got more intense and turned into the full force of the golden forcefield returning to the tower now it's job was done. Unfortunately because it came back as a rush and was so intense the energy radiated around the small bedroom and in the same way as the Stargate's energy pushes out before pulling back in to the circle to make it's wormhole. The golden energy did the same thing, but didn't make a wormhole, instead as it pushed out from the archway into the corridor and hitting the other archway to the room opposite Jack's set off a chain reaction. The tendrils of energy stayed ceiling hight seeking out the other archways in the corridor, not only lighting them up but filling them with golden energy till there was another bright flash that filled the corridor before leaving behind stunned silence and total darkness.

As they were not in the archways or leaning against the walls no one was injured, nor did they realise what the energy bolts did. They had automatically shut and covered their eyes as best they could, and were shocked by the tingling of the energy around them as well as the deafening silence left behind.

In the infirmary and the Gate room lights came back on with the messages … that the first phase had been completed and the second was in progress, as well as the warning not to touch the computers through out the Atlantis … was sent to all computers.

But in that corridor there was now semi darkness and the group were silently doing their emergency checks … first individually, then checking around to make sure no one was missing or hurt. …They weren't ... Still not moving from their group the murmurings started between them as they checked the corridor wondering what had happened and why.

And as they did so the archways into the rooms and the one into the infirmary suddenly came to life bathing the corridor in red and green light, because the forcefields were flashing their warnings round the edges of each archway. Not only that there were several blue energy bolts whipping from side to side enforcing the 'do not enter' message they gave.

Tensions in the group rose even higher as the main lights instantly came back and they realised they were not only cut off from the infirmary but also from Jack.

Sam was the first to move, with Teal'c and the others coming behind her ... collecting as best they could round the warning archway they held their breaths in shock and helplessness.

They could make out the shape of the sleeping or unconscious child on the bed that was glowing gold and the mattress was now gently sinking into the framework enabling a clear 'glass' shield to silently rise up on one side and arch over to the other covering it. And from the top and bottom of the bed two more panels rose up, clicked into the 'glass' frame sealing the whole thing from the outside world. Then the inside frosted over so no one would be able to see in.

With memories, fear and anger rippling through Sam as she watched it happen. She knew the darker nightmares the 'sleep' cubicle had left Jack with, and Thor wasn't there to help them this time round. Desperately clinging onto the hope that all was well, she glanced at the screen at the top of the bed for the green light that would tell her he was alive and sleeping. And felt a deep shiver run down her spine, fear tug at her heart and she spun towards Daniel hissing out. "This is your fault! You are the one who didn't listen to him, not the other way around. And if I lose him, you'll not only be off Atlantis but out of SGC, possible off the planet. Now shut up and step away from the group before I throw you through that forcefield!"

"But Sam it is all right! Don't you see this will help him get him back to adulthood. We all need to be here, that is why it has happened now." Daniel insisted, while fighting Vala who was grabbing at his arms trying to get him to away before he could do any more damage, and was about to voice her own thoughts.

When Teal'c's intoned in his most deadly manner, beat her to it. "DanielJackson you need to cease and move away." and to make his point he moved towards the still struggle man, ready to drag him away from the group, while adding. "Samantha has noticed the screen above the bed is completely black. There are no life or alerts signs showing."

With the others started to grasp the new fears, Jon, who was looking up the corridor towards the infirmary archway barked out, in awe and full command mode. "Incoming! Make a hole and stay alert!"

They all reacted, and moved to the side walls, while Sam though shocked recognized who had got Jon's attention and yelled to stop them. "U Sang! NightOwl don't! The forcefields are fully charged!"

It was an amazing sight because NightOwl and U Sang didn't falter in their flight or stride at Sam's warning, knowing they were needed.

oxoxo

NightOwl's sensitive mind had felt the change in Atlantis while having her evening flight for 'owl' food, and to gather energy from the rays of the setting sun, so she could use her dragon form, without fire, should it be needed. Immediately informing U Sang through their telepathic connection of the change in Atlantis, the rules of not entering the infirmary were forgotten as they both took to flight and bounding run through the corridors to get to there so they could welcome the 'Ancient' Child/General back from his sleep and to his adult self.

As the pair entered the infirmary the already alarmed staff who were trying to calm the scared patients, turned their attention to the very strange spectacle of a bounding purple stripped cat with a tawny owl flying just above it's shoulders.

On hearing Sam's loud warning from that corridor, shock and awe rose as everyone watched the pair … without hesitation and in mid flight and bounding run ... ripple into their other coloured forms.

NightOwl into her natural larger austere black dragon form, but staying small enough to fit through the archway without touching the sides. And U Sang into his sleeker more menacing black Panther form, with his long majestic bounding run, his clawed paws barely touching the ground as with each spring the pair sped towards the archway.

In total unison of body and mind, with NightOwl flying slightly above U Sang, they entered the red, green and blue rippling forcefield … Which immediately sparkled, sizzled, crackled and popped all around them.

NightOwl's beak/head entered the archway a fraction of a second before U Sang's nose/head, and broke the forcefield taking the full charge of it. She hovered there with the downward beat of her longer, wider dragon wings, not touching but protecting U Sang's body as he came on through the archway. He'd aimed and timed his bounding run so his four his paws were off the ground as he entered the archway and would land well clear on the other side.

Neither feared the forcefield, because U Sang's black form protected him as he took any of the energy NightOwl couldn't cope with. NightOwl in dragon form was an energy gather, of all types the planets or inhabitants could produce, but crystal based was her favourite. So she was more than happy to soak it all up, and even gave U Sang a gentle 'air boost' with a beat of her wings to make sure his tail was well clear when landing.

Job done and feeling the buzz, NightOwl was flying past the group flattened against the walls starting to change into her smaller, gentler Tawny Owl form with each beat of her black dragon wings. Once changed to Owl she would do an expert turn and fly back to land on U Sang's arm then shoulder her favourite perch.… ... and found she wasn't transforming properly. Knowing she couldn't do a u-turn and fly back out to get extra space and start again, and seeing the end of the corridor coming up fast… way too fast. She became an inelegant flapping of wings, tumbling flickering black to brown pile of feathers … a learner's style emergency landing in a heap at the end and touching the wall as well.

Soooo embarrassing considering her experience and age … Beating her wings and hopping around to try and make the transformation work/finish … stop twitching between the two. She knew she'd stuffed herself … taken out all the nearby forcefields instead of just the she'd flown through. Knowing exactly what was coming ... she tried to act in an elegant manner ... and not do too much damage … … save her reputation.

U Sang on the other hand landed as he planned, in the middle of the corridor in the space created, and as his front and back paws touched the floor he started to ripple into his purple stripped form. Then with a short leap to bring him in front of the group, his back paws touching down first, he came upright in his familiar 'Doctor' U Sang identity, and immediately addressed the understandably startled group. "Honourable people, I apologise for breaking your rules and lack of clothing, but needs must." and looking down the corridor at the tumbling flickering NightOwl gave a sigh and a slight shake of his head, before glancing back at the group and adding with embarrassment. "Also for NightOwl, the breaking wind and belching must take place because of the amount of energy she has taken in and had an 'owl' meal before hand. Normally she would have taken mineral grit instead of a flesh and stayed in her full sized dragon form and out in the open till wind and belching sessions are over. Unfortunately it is not safe for her to stay in that form here so will keep her Owl form and feel very embarrassed."

Everyone glanced towards the end of the corridor at the garbled 'tuwit, tuwoos, hiccups and belches of small sheets of flame that came from the tawny owl's beak, rather than the striking stern black dragon that had flown passed them a moment ago. Then they held their breaths as NightOwl loudly broke wind and a smell of rotten eggs filled the corridor.

At U Sang's telepathic but gentle order to her "Flap your wings and fly to move the air. They understand and we have work to do."

NightOwl did so and the smell disappeared. Then she took off slowly as though testing her owl wings were still working, before two beats later she expertly aimed for and landed on U Sang's held out arm. Then hopped onto his shoulder and gently giving the side of his head a nudge with her own, silently suggested they should go and check on the sleeping child.

Instantly weighing up the situation from her telepathic thoughts and his own natural empathy, U Sang welcomed her greeting and silently agreed before silently adding 'But not yet'. Knowing NightOwl would wait he immediately turned his attention to the anxious group in front him, and bowing slightly started. "Honourable Lady Samantha do not fear. NightOwl and I do not sense any death in that room, only the sleeping child within the life giving chamber. I believe as Doctor Rodney would say the computer within the room needs a kick after the jolt of energy it has just received."

Seeing Sam's slight nod as well as feeling a flicker of tension being released from her, U Sang turned his attention to the rest of the group, and as he'd not been introduced to him started gently but firmly. "Teal'c, Master Jaffa of Chulak and your fellow brothers and sisters, U Sang greets you and asks a favour. That you put aside your anger and help Doctor Daniel to mediate, so he can regain the character that has been shut-down by the entity he unfortunately allowed into his body. I also ask that if she is still willing ... his life-mate, Lady Vala also attends."

"That's not fair you are shutting me out again, they won't tell me his past and you are excluding me from his waking." Daniel blurted out feeling like the young child who'd just lost the security of his parents, mixing in with the echo's of his adult self when he'd been shunned and no one would listen to him. While knowing deep down he could not find his 'happy' medium.

U Sang looking at him as he answered quietly, letting the hint of a purr smooth the man's agitation. "Doctor Daniel, your emotions are still unsteady from your experience, and it is important that when you meet your friend again your emotions and mind are steady so it will be an enjoyable experience for everyone concerned. I understand that Master Teal'c is an expert in deep mediation and you have trusted him in the past just as you have trusted your life-mate Vala. Take the first step and do so again."

As Vala was still holding Daniel's arm to restrain him, she silently wondered if she wanted to be with him, that if he didn't improve soon she'd chuck him out the Gate. Catching the slight nod that went between Sam and Teal'c realising it was permission and acceptance, that they both wanted to Daniel back to his old self ... she decided things might be more interesting with Teal'c rather than hanging around waiting for the General to wake. She had no doubt he would ... she trusted U Sang's word completely, which surprised her.

Turning his penetrating gaze to Daniel Teal'c intoned gravely. "DoctorDanielJackson no one has shut you out and you will now come with me. With Samantha's permission I will discuss the O'Neill's past. But what is discussed in mediation will stay in mediation forever, not one spoken or written syllable about his or Jon's past will be mentioned to anyone else. These rules also include your life-mate ValaMalDoran." and took one step towards Daniel.

"You don't have to take that tone Teal'c. Jack had parents and has the cabin so his past can't be that bad." and started to walk towards the archway into the infirmary, with Vala close behind him.

"He needs to know Sam, and Teal'c will keep it short and to the point." Jon reassured her that it was all right with him as he walked towards her with Cassie following him. He like Cassie were taking in the events as well as that gentle but commanding presence of U Sang. Not to mention those big round eyes of NightOwl reminding him of Thor when deep in thought as they watched him from U Sang's shoulder, and nearly chuckled at the idea of Thor with feathers … but managed to stop.

Mainly because U Sang had turned to him and bowing slightly so as not to dislodge NightOwl, gave his formal greeting of. "Master Jon O'Neill, son of both earth and the ancients, U Sang is glad you are healed and will have a long and eventful life with your life-mate Cassandra Frazer, adopted daughter of the family SG1 and Doctor Janet Frazer. I ask that you and your life-mate wait here while NightOwl, Lady Samantha and myself deal with the computer glitch, and then contact the Ancient child General so we will know all is well."

Without any hesitation Jon said. "Of course we will U Sang. If it is safe to enter the room opposite I will get some chairs to sit on." Seeing U Sang's nod Jon finished. "We will stop anyone coming in as well."

Feeling the full range of emotions Sam managed to get her words out calmly. "Cam you need to go to the Gate room and inform Colonel Sheppard and Richard Woosley that they are in charge while I'm with U Sang. Also what has happened here if Jennifer or Teal'c has not phoned it through."

Cam nodded and walking towards the infirmary added. "Let us know as soon as possible how he is. I'll stall anyone from SGC, and if needs be I'll pass a message to Jon so you will be kept in the loop."

"We will and thank you Cam." Sam finished. Then taking a breath to calm her rolling emotions she followed U Sang and NightOwl into Jack's room.

As soon as they walked in U Sang carried on towards the top of the bed, put his small hand/paws on the screen and concentrated. Sent out that other sense of his that could tell what was wrong … he could feel the fault and took his hand/paws away then purred and walked toward the draws on the wall. There was a ripple and the right ones showed themselves with a flashing light when he pulled the draw open. Then knowing Samantha would understand and needed the diversion he said. "Samantha, we need the red and yellow tinted crystals if you would take the new ones out I will open the computer behind the screen and we can replace them."

Drawing her eyes and attention away from the clouded sleep chamber Sam immediately nodded then assisted U Sang, while NightOwl tuwit, tuwoo'd in the background.

As soon as it was done and the old crystals discarded in another draw U Sang said gently. "Now we will stand beside the sleep chamber and rest our hands on it so they are linked. One of mine on top of yours Samantha, the other will rest on the chamber. NightOwl if you will fly to the other side of Samantha and stand on the sleep chamber, then do the same on Samantha's other hand. Then we close our eyes…"

Worried Sam butted in. "Won't she slip off because of her talons."

With a tuwit tuwoo tuwoo that could have been taken as a laugh by it's tone, NightOwl flew to her place. As she landed her sharp separate talons immediately changed to gentler webbed duck like feet so they could get purchase on the sleep chamber and not hurt Sam's hand when she placed it on top of hers.

Trying to ignore the fact the tawny owl looked odd with webbed feet and they did feel sort of soft and rough at the same time, Sam closed her eyes and felt the gentle touch of a feathered wing rest on her shoulder. Then heard the gentle sing song voice in her head. "Welcome Lady Samantha, life-mate of the Ancient child."

"NightOwl" Sam silently whispered back, remembering the first telepathic encounter with the Owl just after Colonel Sheppard and team brought them to Atlantis. Then added. "I am honoured and as you just Samantha is fine."

"I know" NightOwl answered softly.

As they were joined by U Sang's gentle purring words "We are ready Samantha." in their mind link and he then instructed her. "Think of your life-mate then call his name through your mind. Time does not matter here. I can feel his life form so we know he is indeed alive. He needs to know we are here so we can talk to him and find out what happened and how strong he is. He will trust your mental voice."

Sam automatically nodded and tried to clear her mind of all her emotional thoughts and feelings that putting her hands on the life/sleep chamber brought rushing back, and intermingled with the recent ones in the corridor. ... It wasn't happening … They were over whelming her ... all she could feel was the cool hard casing and the emotional fallout that Jack as an adult, and now as a child was trapped in there … could be lost to her, to all of them and she needed him… and admitted. "I can't."

Immediately NightOwl, letting her gentle hooting owl voice give the resonance of reassurance needed, answered. "Concentrate on your breathing and feel the gentleness of our touch rather than the chamber's covering. There is no rush we are going to the dimension beyond time."

With her thoughts still racing in circles there flashed an impression of Teal'c sitting with candles around him … Trying to hold onto what it represented, Sam breathed in deeply then let it out slowly … repeated it several times ... and when the flash appeared again tried to place Jack sitting with Teal'c in one of their meditation sessions. Breathing in deeply then out again she found the chaos in her mind slow and calm … and felt the gentle reassuring warmth from U Sang and NightOwl flow through her.

The cold casing her hands rested on disappeared and she was standing on firm ground with mist spiralling around her so she couldn't see where she was, but knew U Sang and NightOwl were standing slightly behind her. Then heard their voices in unison say. "Well done Samantha, you are in the mind link. Because of his past he has hidden himself. Call his name as you would when you wish to talk with him. Gently though so as not to confuse him, he might have drawn on good memories of you to keep him company as he waits to become his adult self."

Suddenly needing reassurance Sam asked. "Will you stay me?"

As before they answered together. "Yes. Just slightly behind you so he does not feel threatened from past experiences of mind invasion or hurt from enemies. Call his name and wait. Then when we see him you introduce us."

Sam took a gentle breath and thinking of him and called. "Jack!" and waited for the mist to clear or even just hear his voice answer her call. She needed him so much.

If you have got this far, thanks for taking the time and hope you enjoyed the ramble.

As always comments welcome but not insisted upon.

And unfortunately not sure when the next chapter will be done, real life and time don't hang around.

Rest assured Sam and Jack will talk … so will the others.
