Hey guys, welcome to my second SYOC story. This one won't be as updated as Pokémon Society, but I'll do my best. Without further ado, let's get started.
Seth Grey was in his room, full of anticipation. Today was the day Pokéstar Studios would announce the winners of their raffle. He was already practicing his acting skills with his Pokémon.
His black hair had been neatly combed, while he wore his neon green and black hoodie. He had his special silver colored headphones his dad gave him worn on his neck.
"Okay guys, how do you think I should throw my pokéballs? Like this?" he asked, lightly tossing an empty pokéball in front of him. "Or like this?" he took out another pokéball and tossed it in his hand once before pulling his arm back and throwing it hard.
An Ambipom grabbed the pokéball with one of his hands before it hit the wall and tossed it back and forth. He threw the ball back to Seth and thumped one of his tails twice on the ground.
"You like to throw number two? What about the rest of you guys?"
A Lopunny standing in a corner of the room clapped her ears twice, while a Salazzle hissed twice. Only a quiet Vaporeon on Seth's bed tapped his tail once.
"Well, the majority has spoken! Throw number two is apparently better."
"Are you seriously practicing your acting skills Seth? They haven't even announced whether or not you're the winner." came a voice from Seth's door. There stood Seth's younger sister Fiona. Who had the same color hair and wore a pink and peach colored Audino dress. At her side was Belle, her Audino.
"Hey, I'm just being positive. Even if I don't make it, I'll still be able to utilize these skills. Think fast!"
He threw a pokéball above her head, she insinctively ducked and lost her balance, crashing onto the floor.
"Not funny, and don't get too hopeful, remember what happened to my ballet classes?"
"You weren't optimistic enough. If there's a will, there's a way."
Fiona frowned. "I think that only applies to doing tasks."
"Eh, I'll prove you wrong once I get chosen as one of the Pokéstars."
"Okay, but I have a question. If you- I mean, when you get chosen, what will happen to your Pokémon? Will you be taking them, or will they stay here?"
"The application said that I unfortunately can't have any of my friends with me, so I'll have to leave them with mom. We had a long talk about it though."
"Well, me and Belle will have a lot of fun with them. So I can't wait!"
"Seth! Come down here, it's starting!" shouted Seth's mom from downstairs.
"It's time! Come on everyone!"
He grabbed Fiona's hand and ran down the stairs, dragging her behind. They were immediately followed by her Audino, Ambipom, Lopunny, Salazzle, and Vaporeon. They all settled around the TV as Pryce Muroe, the owner of Pokéstars, appeared on screen.
"As you all know, we hosted a raffle three days ago to determine our main characters for our new live action TV show, The Island of Challenge. We've gotten hundreds of entries for the raffle, but there can only be twenty-one winners across seven seasons. And it is my pleasure to announce our winners. "Aaron Wesker, Zeke Enator, Jax Ambrose, and Seth Grey for the first season!"
The room was quiet for a moment as Pryce Munroe's words sank in. Then, with a slow smile, Seth leaped from the floor and cheered.
"Yes! I knew it! I got accepted! Finally, I've been waiting so long and it's happened!"
He cried tears of joy as his mom, sister and Pokémon surrounded him with hugs of joy. His dad came up from the basement and took in the scene. He gave one look at the TV and smiled.
"My own son, a movie star."
The next day
After many goodbyes and hugs, Seth was in the Calzei region Pokéstar headquarters. It was a massive place with people bustling about. As he followed a guide through the headquarters, he saw a man with gray hair wearing a green and purple costume.
"Wait a minute, you're Brycen-Man!"
"Hah hah, another fan I suppose?"
"Yeah, despite you mostly being the villain, you're actually really cool."
"Well, you're about to become a movie star yourself. After that, maybe I can have your autograph?"
Seth laughed as he continued with his guide. As he walked along, he saw yet another famous movie star.
"H-Hold up, aren't you-"
The man gave him a warm smile. His very pointy black hair and deep voice made him very recognizable. "Daniel Smith, Noivernman's actor."
"Oh man, I can't believe I'm meeting you in person!"
"Welcome to Pokéstars, seeing famous movie stars is like seeing a Pokémon. Here's my autograph."
Seth took the signed card like a holy trophy. He looked up to say thank you, but like the actual movie character, Daniel was gone without a trace.
The guide looked at him. "So how's your first day in Pokéstar studios going?"
"Absolutely amazing."
Aaron's POV
I walked through Pokéstar studios with a guide. He led me through many different rooms, and past many different rooms. He told me all about Pokéstars and all the actors. I used this time to sneak looks around me for any hidden cameras that could be recording us.
Since I knew they'd be secretly recording me. I put on my best look, also since I was in a very famous movie studio. A simple black jacket and my stylish sneakers.
"So, about me leaving my Pokémon behind. How am I supposed to do Pokémon battles and stuff."
"You'll be asking me." came a voice.
I jumped back surprised as a man with brown hair, brown glasses, and a brown suit and a red brown striped tie appeared.
"Follow me into this room and I'll explain everything. My name is Professor Lennox."
The room was empty except for a few boxes and a metal cart with a video screen. The man's placement was very suspicious, how'd he know I'd ask my question then, and how could he have gotten ready to say "You'll be asking me" right then. I would inspect the walls for secret passages later. Unless of course, my visitor badge had a microphone.
"I know you have many questions, so I'll answer them all patiently. But first, let me explain. "In the Insulae Region, you'll get to have the experience of catching a new team, fighting eighteen different gym leaders, exploring a vast region that has not yet been dominated by cities. Of course, we can't send you in unprepared, so we'll be giving you your very own starter Pokémon. There are twenty-one Pokémon to choose from, you'll only be getting one."
Now this, I liked. Starter Pokémon were extremely rare and were only given to a handful of trainers, many coming from very high profile backgrounds. I went up to the cart and saw that the screen was a selection to select my starter. I looked at all the different starters, I knew who to pick.
"I choose Chespin."
I selected the picture of Chespin onscreen and pressed OK. The machine whirred to life and dispensed a pokéball.
"Chespin, great pick. Now before we get ready to head out to the new region. Would you like to see your Pokémon's battling capacities?"
"Heck ya! I may only have one Pokémon, but I'm still a seasoned battler!"
No one's POV
"Go Chespin!"
"Out, Helioptile!"
Both Pokémon appeared, Helioptile looked friendly enough, but Chespin stood determined. He brought his hands together and looked ready to fight.
Aaron rubbed his hands together. "I like that spark in your eye, can you use Seed Bomb?"
Chespin gave him a confused look, clearly it was too low leveled to know any good moves.
"I'm going to have to get some TMs for you. What can you do, I'm not familiar with-"
Chespin leaped into the air, vines growing from the leaves on the side of his face. They flew towards Helioptile, whipping through the air like snakes.
"Dodge it and use Thunder Shock!"
Helioptile nimbly raced through the vines and filled himself with energy.
"Tackle, now!"
Helioptile shot his Thunder Shock at Chespin, who took the attack straight on and dove into Helioptile.
"Vine Whip!"
Vines slashed Helioptile in the face, causing the Pokémon to stumble back.
"Helioptile, use Pound!"
Helioptile swung his ears at Chespin. He hit the Pokémon and threw him backwards. The Helioptile came again, ears swinging.
"Grab his ears with Vine Whip!"
Chespin shot the vines forward again and caught Helioptile by the ears, he struggled with the Pokémon before lifting him up.
"Now throw him and use Tackle!"
Chespin mustered all his strength and threw Helioptile upwards. He leaped into the air and plowed into Helioptile, throwing him into a wall. The force of the attack was too much, and he fainted.
"All right Chespin! Ya did it!"
He held out his hand for a high five and received it from the happy Pokémon. The professor recalled his Helioptile.
"I told you I would win. I'm an extremely good battler, even with new Pokémon."
The Professor laughed. "Maybe one day, we could have another battle between us, and I'll be going all out. But now, you'll be meeting your team."
"And that's a wrap!" came a hidden voice.
"I knew you were recording me. It's way too obvious," said Aaron.
"Yes, the best acting is the act that comes naturally, not forced," said the Professor with a knowing smile.
"Oh, so you're saying that I'd have acted differently if I knew I was being recorded."
"Yes."
"My only question is when did you start recording? Because I see those cameramen hiding in the boxes now, but the scene would lose context if you started with me entering the room."
"The last place people look, is up."
Jax walked along a narrow corridor, making sure not to eye the hidden camera staring at him. He figured that they had already begun recording the show, and didn't want to ruin it because he couldn't look straight.
He was extremely with messy jet black hair and blue eyes. He wore light brown pants and a long sleeved black shirt.
His guide led him through a door into a small room. In the room, he saw a man wearing all brown trying to catch his breath. When he saw Jax, he smoothed his brown hair and smiled, his brown eyes lighting up.
"Is your name Mr. Brown?" asked Jax.
"No, it's Professor Lennox, but can you guess what my favorite color is?"
"Brown?"
"You got it!"
"So according to the raffle submission. I'm going to be traveling to a new region, without my original Pokémon?"
"Yes, in the Insulae Region, you'll get to have the experience of catching a new team, fighting eighteen different gym leaders, exploring a vast region that has not yet been dominated by cities. Of course, we can't send you in unprepared, so we'll be giving you your very own starter Pokémon. There are twenty-one Pokémon to choose from, you'll only be getting one."
"Did you memorize that? Because your response seemed very automatic."
"Anyways, if you come over here," said Professor Lennox, leading him to a cart. "You'll choose your first Pokémon."
"Cool! What are the options?"
"Why don't you see for yourself?"
He turned on the machine and looked through the options. There were twenty Pokémon. The faint outline of a Chespin showed after Oshawott. He weighed his options and ultimately decided to choose Chimchar.
The machine dispensed Chimchar's pokéball and Jax took it. He sent out Chimchar, who gave a little chirp before exploring his clothing.
"A quick Pokémon battle won't hurt to test your new Pokémon would it?"
"You're on, ready Chimchar? Wait, I should give you a name, would you like that?"
Chimchar flipped and nodded.
"Okay let's see, calling you something fire related would be corny, I should give you an actual name. Jack?"
Chimchar shook his head.
"Nick?"
Chimchar shook his head vigorously.
"Uhm, Valdez? Actually-"
Chimchar started jumping up and down, approving the name.
"Okay then, let's do this Valdez!"
"Go, Helioptile!"
"Valdez, use Scratch!"
"Thunder Shock!"
Valdez raced forward, dodging the shock of lightning and striking Helioptile with his claws. Helioptile retaliated by smacking Valdez with his long ears, causing the chimp Pokémon to stumble backwards.
"Use your fire!"
Valdez leaped back and spat a ball of fire at Helioptile. The Pokémon blocked it with his long ears and ran forward.
"Pound!"
"Dodge it!"
The Helioptile swung his ears at Valdez in a vicious arc. Valdez leaped back and spat another ball of fire.
"Thunder Shock!"
The Pokémon fired the move and hit Valdez, who groaned as the paralysis started to set in. Helioptile came running in, his ears ready to smack Valdez.
"Ember!"
Valdez fired Ember at the Helioptile again, but the latter only shielded himself from the flames. Valdez leaped at the last second as Helioptile slammed his ears into the wall.
"You're more agile than he is, use that to your advantage!"
The Helioptile fired Thunder Shock again, Valdez leaped to the right and used Ember. The next attack from Helioptile happened in the same fashion.
"Follow their pattern!" shouted the Professor.
"Leave them guessing!"
Helioptile rushed in with Pound. Valdez leaped clear over Helioptile and used Ember on his exposed back. The attacks proved too much and fainted Helioptile.
"My Pokémon!"
"Alright! We won! Bring it in buddy!"
Valdez jumped towards him and he grabbed the little Chimchar. He swung him around and placed him on his feet.
"Good work today Valdez, return."
Valdez entered his pokéball as Jax stood up. The Professor walked up to Jax and handed him a handheld device.
"I noticed your confusion about Valdez's moves. This is an upgraded Pokédex. It will tell you about any Pokémon you hold it up to. Any Pokémon on your team will have their moves listed here as well."
"Wow, thanks Professor."
"No problem, I need to go now, got more participants to attend to."
"And that's a wrap."
Jax shook his head. "I knew it."
Seth was currently picking his Pokémon, he had already been talked to about
which Pokémon he'll be having in the Insulae Region. He looked through all his options. He couldn't choose Chespin or Chimachar, but it didn't matter since he wanted to pick a water type.
He looked over all the water types, he would opt for a dual type for coverage, shortening his options to four Pokémon. The water steel typing of Empoleon didn't have much coverage, and he didn't really want Swampert, a Pokémon highly susceptible to Giga Drain.
Ultimately, he decided on Popplio. Primarina was pretty good, and Popplio got coverage early on. The machine dispensed the pokéball for him to take.
"Come on out Popplio." called Seth as he opened the ball.
A little Popplio appeared and looked over Seth curiously. Then the Popplio, after studying him, burst into a little song. Then, she blew a bubble from her nose, letting it float upwards before popping directly in Seth's face. She then did a flip and stood on her tail.
"Wow, you are a little actress huh?"
Popplio flipped again and stretched herself out, obviously pleased by the praise.
"You're going to need a name, I'll call you Arianna."
Arianna did another flip and clapped her hands. She blew another bubble, even larger than before.
"I see you're getting accustomed to your new friend. How about we do a battle between us?" suggested the Professor.
"Oh you're so on. I've won many tournaments across the region. Bring it on with your strongest Pokémon! We have no fear, right Arianna?"
Arianna blew a bubble and nodded.
"Well actually, my strongest Pokémon took quite a beating. But, go, Zigzagoon!"
"Alright Arianna, use Bubble!"
Arianna gave him a blank look.
"Hold up, you're telling me that you can blow bubbles, but can't use them offensively as a move?"
Arianna realized the implication of what he was saying and used Water Gun. The Zigzagoon dodged the move, her feet glowing white as she moved in a zig-zag pattern with Quick Attack.
"Now, hit her!"
"Water Gun!"
The Zigzagoon leaped into the air and charged at Arianna, she was pushed back as Arianna's Water Gun hit her head on.
"New tactic, run around her and strike!"
The Zigzagoon put on a burst of speed and ran around Ariana, striking her periodically. No matter how much she tried, her Water Gun kept missing.
Seth studied the scene, trying to find a way to break through the Zigzagoon's tactic. He then noticed that when it ran in a circle. It was moving up and down in a zig-zag. If he could time it right, Ariana could hit the Zigzagoon despite it using Quick Attack.
"Hold it Arianna!"
She stopped blasting Water Gun as he traced the Zigzagoon's movements. She attacked Arianna again from the side and continued in her circle. Seth saw the perfect moment when she was about to line up with Arianna.
"Now!"
Arianna blasted Water Gun. The move flinging Zigzagoon into a wall as water rushed over her.
"Headbutt!"
"Pound!"
The Zigzagoon leapt forward and hit Arianna with her head. Arianna smacked the Zigzagoon with one of her flippers and blasted her with Water Gun. The Zigzagoon flipped over in the rush of water.
"Quick Attack!"
The Zigzagoon rushed away as another Water Gun came towards her. She charged directly at Arianna, who wouldn't be fast enough to dodge.
"Water Gun! Then roll to the side!"
As Seth predicted, when Arianna used Water Gun, the Zigzagoon leaped into the air to dodge. She rolled to the side and dodge the Zigzagoon's landing attack.
"Now!"
Arianna blasted Water Gun at Zigzagoon's face, fainting the Pokémon.
"Alright, we won!"
Arianna did another flip and gave a little song. Seth laughed and rubbed her head.
"You certainly love attention don't you."
The Professor handed Seth a device. "This is your upgraded Pokédex. It will tell you about any Pokémon you hold it up to. Any Pokémon on your team will have their moves listed here as well."
"Thanks, I guess I'm truly going on a Pokémon adventure."
"You could think of it like that. Anyway, I need to get going. Still have one more person to attend to. Bye for now Seth."
The Professor took his cart and walked out the room.
"And that's a wrap."
Seth looked around and saw a cameraman coming out of a box with a camera lens sized hole.
"Oh, we're already making the first episode. Glad you got my winning side."
"-Of course, we can't send you in unprepared, so we'll be giving you your very own starter Pokémon. There are twenty-one Pokémon to choose from, you'll only be getting one." finished Professor. He was talking to a man named Zeke Enator.
He had slate grey hair and a bit of stubble on his face. He was wearing jeans, a dark green T-shirt, and a grey jacket. He wore a necklace with the tooth of a Sharpedo.
"So, I just pick a Pokémon from there?" asked Zeke, indicating the Professor's cart.
"Yep, also, you seem a bit tired."
"It's an eight hour flight here from Hoenn. Different time zones and jet lag."
"What time was it when you got the news?"
"Hoenn is about four hours ahead so it was around twelve AM."
"Ouch."
"Well, I should be fine, just some rest and I'll be fresh again."
Zeke walked towards the cart and looked through his options.
"Obviously, I'm picking a Pokémon from Alola. And Popplio has been chosen. I choose Rowlet."
He selected Rowlet and took the pokéball the machine gave him.
He sent out his Pokémon and patted its head as the Rowlett looked at him curiously.
"You're definitely male. I'll call you Gahoole."
Gahoole looked at him with a turned head. He then flapped his wings and walked off, inspecting all the boxes.
"Gahoole? What an interesting name."
"First thing that came to my mind honestly."
"Sounds more like a mystical place than a name if you get what I mean."
"Maybe, so what's next?"
"I'm so glad you asked." the Professor sent out his Zigzagoon. "Next, we battle."
"Okay, come on Gahoole!"
Gahoole was standing silently. His eyes closed.
"Uhm, Gahoole?"
Gahoole's eyes snapped open as he realized his trainer was calling. He gave a yawn and flew to his trainer.
"Let's do this, Leafage!"
"Dodge it with Quick Attack!"
The Zigzagoon raced around the leaves and charged at Gahoole.
"Tackle!"
The two Pokémon clashed at each other and were thrown back. The Zigzagoon went for Headbutt while Gahoole went for Leafage. Zigzagoon dodge again by leaping to the side.
"Hmm, the Zigzagoon seems to be focused on dodging Leafage. I could use that to my advantage. Tackle!"
Gahoole charged at the Zigzagoon while she used Headbutt. Gahoole was sent flying by the stronger attack.
"Use it again."
The two Pokémon charged at each other again. Zigzagoon lowering her head to use Headbutt.
"Leafage!"
Zigzagoon had no time to dodge as the leaves smacked into her. She jumped up and used Quick Attack. Rushing straight at Gahoole.
"Tackle!"
"Dodge it!"
Zigzagoon leaped behind Gahoole and slammed him in the back. He whipped around and used Leafage. The Zigzagoon expertly ran in zig-zags and dodged the leaves.
"Watch out!"
Gahoole rolled away as the Zigzagoon tried to smash into him. He used Leafage which she dodged again.
"Tackle!"
Gahoole came after the Zigzagoon again. Zeke noticed the white trails as the Zigzagoon came towards Gahoole.
"Twist and use Leafage!"
It went all according to plan. The Zigzagoon leaped behind Gahoole right as the command came. Gahoole turned around and fired Leafage. He went flying back as Zigzagoon hit him. But his attack still hit.
Zigzagoon went flying and rolled on the floor painfully. She struggled to her feet before collapsing.
"Yes! We won Gahoole. Great job!"
The Professor sighed. "Four battles, zero wins. My pokémon needs some rest. Great battling however! Here's your update Pokédex. It will tell you about any Pokémon you hold it up to. Any Pokémon on your team will have their moves listed here as well. I'm surprised you already knew what Rowlett's moves were?"
"I've watched some trainers and their Pokémon when I used to live in Alola."
"Interesting."
"So, what's next?"
"Glad you asked. It's time to meet your team."
"My team?"
"Of course! We can't drop you off on an island by yourself. Follow me."
"And that's a wrap."
And that's the end of the chapter! I won't be making author notes at the beginning of the chapter. Instead, I'll be doing episode recaps and narrating.
