Steve rushed into the bedroom, out of breath. "You guys, we have a problem! The Justice of the Peace just called. There's snow in the mountains. He's not gonna make it."
"Oh my God!" cried Danny. Jesse quickly put his hands on Danny's shoulders, urging him to sit down. "Danny, Danny. Calm down, okay? I'm gonna go make some calls. We'll figure something out. Don't you worry!" Danny sat down and took a deep breath. Jesse leaned over and whispered in Joey's ear, "Joseph, what are we gonna do?"
"No idea!" Joey whispered back.
"Okay, well just keep smiling so Danny doesn't freak out!" Joey obliged, and he and Jesse grinned back at Danny, though their eyes were filled with worry.
Fortunately, while the men were worrying about having an officiant for the ceremony, the bride was blissfully unaware as she was putting on her wedding gown. DJ, however, had received the news from Steve and informed the rest of the women.
"OK, girls, remember," DJ instructed her younger sisters, "when Vicky comes out in her dress, we can't let her know that anything is wrong. Act natural!"
Stephanie and Michelle nodded and made the motion of zipping their lips shut and throwing away the key.
"Who's ready to see the bride?" Liz called from the bathroom.
"We are!" Michelle exclaimed. Liz stepped out of the bathroom and motioned with her arms to present Vicky. "Here comes the bride!"
The ladies all gasped when Vicky walked out. The dress was tea-length and covered with lace. It had a boat neckline with cap sleeves and a bejeweled belt around the waistline."What do you think?" Vicky asked.
"Vicky, you look beautiful!" Becky gushed. "Oh, this reminds me so much of my wedding day. Except for this time the groom isn't getting ready to jump out of an airplane."
"Yeah. At least this time the only person missing is the -" Michelle started to say before Stephanie quickly clapped her hand over her little sister's mouth.
Fortunately, Vicky didn't seem to notice as she ruffled her skirt in front of the mirror. "Oh, I just can't believe this is really happening!" she cried. "I mean just a few days ago I thought I would be getting on a plane to move to New York this weekend, and now here we are. But this is for the best, right? I mean we're having a baby and we've already been engaged for so long, and a job is just a job. I can get a job anywhere. But New York! I mean, that was my dream…" Vicky trailed off. "Mom, I don't know if -"
Liz quickly rushed to her daughter's side. "Vicky, honey, relax! Just take a deep breath. That's it. Slow and steady. It's just pre-wedding jitters, that's all! You and I both know that you're doing the right thing. Think of it this way. Would you rather be a single mom juggling a full-time anchor job and trying to raise a baby on your own in New York City while the father flies out one weekend a month, or would you rather raise your child in a big, happy, family with two married parents? Emphasis on the word married."
Vicky laughed. "I know, you're right. I'm just nervous. I love Danny, and I love you girls," she said, motioning to the three Tanner daughters, "I just can't believe I'm passing up an opportunity like this!"
"Well, Vicky, getting married and having children doesn't mean you have to give up your career," said Becky, "I mean, look at me! I'm doing it with twins! If Jesse and I can make it work, I'm sure you and Danny can. We do have a house full of potential babysitters, after all." The ladies laughed.
"Thanks, girls," said Vicky, "I'm so glad this baby is being born into the most loving family on the planet!"
"This baby's gonna be an expert hugger by its first birthday, believe me!" DJ joked. Everyone laughed.
Meanwhile, the men were hard at work trying to find a solution to their biggest problem of the day. While Danny laid on top of the bed with a cold washcloth over his head, Jesse and Joey were pacing back and forth across the bedroom with their hands clasped behind their backs.
"Okay, Joseph," said Jesse, "we have - " Jess paused to check his watch, "two hours and 27 minutes to find somebody to officiate this wedding. Any ideas?"
Joey stopped pacing and scratched his chin for a few seconds. "Well, Jess. I think what we need to do is step back and look at this situation objectively. We currently have sixteen people in this house. Two of them are getting married today. Seven of them are under the age of eighteen. That leaves you, me, Becky, your parents, Vicky's mom, and Danny's mom. Given that none of us are ordained ministers, that leaves us with only one potential officiant."
"Great, who is that?" Jesse asked.
"Comet," Joey replied bluntly before bursting out laughing.
Jesse gave Joey a light slap on the cheek. "Joey! Now is not the time for jokes! Now go bring me the phonebook. We're gonna start calling around and see if there are any ministers who happen to live on the mountain that wouldn't need to get past the snow." Joey obliged and left the room. "Danny, how are you holding up?" Jesse asked.
Danny removed the washcloth and sat up on the bed. "A little better, actually," Danny responded. "At least we're all snowed in so it's not like anybody can leave. We won't have to keep the crowd entertained like at your wedding!" Danny joked. Jesse rolled his eyes, then smiled.
"Well, at least your sense of humor is still intact," said Jesse. He gave Danny a playful slap on the back. "Look, Danny. I promise we're gonna find a way around this. Okay? You and Vicky are meant to be together. We are going to find a way to make this wedding happen."
"Thanks, Jesse. I know I can always count on you!" said Danny appreciatively. He stretched his arms out for a hug, but Jesse quickly stopped him.
"You can hug me after the wedding. How about that?" Jesse offered. Danny nodded in agreement.
While everyone else in the house was occupied trying to find a last-minute replacement for the officiant, the bride and groom managed to sneak away from the commotion and have a quiet moment to themselves. Danny was gazing out the window when Vicky met him in the garage. "Hey, stranger," the bride called out to get her groom's attention. Danny turned around and froze.
"Vicky!" he gasped, "You look beautiful."
"Thank you, Darling," Vicky replied. "Are you doing okay? I know today isn't exactly going according to plan."
"Me?! No, I'm doing great. Cool as a cucumber!" Danny exclaimed, trying a little too hard.
"Danny, I think you and I both know that you're lying," said Vicky, "How are you really feeling?"
"Honestly? This is a disaster," Danny admitted, "I mean, Vick, this is crazy! After all that we've been through, we get this close to finally saying "I do" and then this happens! I mean, how are you so calm about this? Well, you keep calm about everything. I guess that's one of the reasons we're perfect for each other. You know, Vicky…"
"Danny!" Vicky cut him off, "You're rambling, sweetheart. Now take a nice, deep breath, and let it out. That's it. Good! Now, would you like to know how I can stay so calm right now?" Danny nodded for her to continue. "Because I love you. And I know that no matter what, you are going to spend the rest of our lives together. It may not happen today like we planned, but so what? We can go down to the courthouse and get married anytime! At least we're here together, with all of the people that we love! Isn't that what really matters?"
Danny sighed. "Of course it is. You know, I really meant it when I said that your level-headedness is one reason we're perfect for each other. Whenever I'm upset or worried, you're always there to bring me back to Earth."
"And when I get too wrapped up in work, you and the girls are there to remind me what's most important in life: the people you love." Danny smiled and leaned in for a kiss. Their romantic moment, however, was interrupted by the opening of the garage door. Danny and Vicky both jumped and panic once again washed across Danny's face as a middle-aged man wearing a snowsuit and carrying a shovel walked in.
"Hi, there!" the man greeted them. "You must be Danny and Vicky," he remarked, noticing their wedding attire.
"We are," Danny responded hesitantly, "And you would be?"
"I'm Chuck Gibbler!" the man answered jovially, "Nice to meet you!" Chuck was a jolly middle-aged man from the midwest who clearly had plenty of experience with heavy snow. He extended his hand for a shake and Danny obliged. "My sincerest congratulations on your impending nuptials. I heard about the storm last night so I hopped in my snowmobile to come and check to make sure you folks were okay."
"Wait, so this is your house?" Danny asked.
"Sure is!" Chuck answered, "and I am honored that you chose to come here to celebrate your love for each other."
"Well, we're honored that you agreed to have us," said Danny gratefully, "Come on in. You must be freezing. I'll make you a coffee."
Back in the kitchen, the Tanner family had gathered together for a warm beverage to listen to Kimmy's Uncle Chuck talk about snowstorms from winters past.
"A few years ago," he explained, "it was New Year's Eve and there was an avalanche, just like the one last night. And there was this young couple who had come to Lake Tahoe to get married, but because of the avalanche, most of their guests couldn't make it! This kid asks me, "Reverend Gibbler, what do you think we should do? Should we go ahead with the wedding?" And I said, "Son, do you love this girl?" And he said yes! So I asked him "Are you going to have other chances to celebrate with the rest of your loved ones later?" and again, the answer was yes! So I said "Of course! You love each other. Why wait!" So they did it! They got married even though most of their guests couldn't make it! Why? Because they understood what was most important. That they loved each other and were ready to start their lives together. Isn't that beautiful?" he asked.
A hormonal Vicky wiped tears from her eyes. "That is beautiful!" she cried. The other women gushed as well.
"Hold it!" Uncle Jesse exclaimed, "Did you just say Reverend Gibbler?"
"Oh yeah!" Kimmy interjected, "Uncle Chuck had his own church in Wisconsin for twenty years before he retired and moved here. Now he runs a snowplow company!"
Danny and Jesse glared at Kimmy. "Gibbler," Jesse asked, "do you mean to say that while we've been spending the whole morning frantically searching for someone to perform this wedding ceremony, that it never once occurred to you to mention that your uncle, who owns the house that we're staying in for the weekend, is a reverend?!" Jesse put his face very close to Kimmy's and continued to glare intensely.
"First off," Kimmy replied, "he's a retired reverend. Second, I didn't know he was coming back today. And thirdly, no one asked me," Kimmy shrugged nonchalantly. Jesse buried his head in Joey's shoulder in frustration.
"Wait, you folks need a reverend? I'd be happy to help!" Chuck embraced Danny, taking him by surprise. "Just give me a few minutes to go upstairs and change. Have no fear! Reverend Chuck is here!" he exclaimed before hurrying upstairs. Danny breathed a sigh of relief, and Vicky smiled at him knowingly. She was right. Everything was going to work out just fine.
About an hour later, the ceremony finally began. Jesse and Joey were the Best Men while Steve and Grandpa Nick acted as ushers. Dj, Stephanie, Michelle, Kimmy, and Aunt Becky were all bridesmaids, and Nicky and Alex successfully fulfilled their duty as ringbearers without swallowing the rings. Naturally, Comet still had to be involved somehow, so he walked down the aisle as well and sat obediently on the groom's side for almost the entire ceremony. Vicky was escorted down the aisle by her mother, and though Danny had already seen his bride that day, he couldn't contain his composure. Luckily, he wasn't alone as the entire family appeared a bit misty-eyed.
"Dearly beloved," Reverend Gibbler began, "we are gathered here today to celebrate Danny and Vicky's love for each other as they join together as one. From what I know about this couple's story, these two have had to overcome several roadblocks to get here, but they have proven that love knows no bounds and that what's meant to be will find a way. The couple has prepared their own wedding vows for each other. Ladies first." he motioned towards Vicky, who handed her bouquet to DJ and took out her vows.
"Danny, when we first met on the set of Wake Up, San Francisco, I figured we would host the show together for a couple of months and then go our separate ways, maybe keeping in touch throughout our careers if our paths happened to cross again. I never imagined that I would meet the man that I would want to spend the rest of my life with. Not only did I find the love of my life, but I find a man who I already will be a wonderful husband because he's an amazing father to his three daughters. The four of you, and all of you, for that matter," she said, gesturing to their wedding party, "have taught me more about what it means to be a family in the last two years than I had learned throughout my whole life. While you supported me in my ambitious career path, you also continued to remind me that there are things in life that are more important than having a successful career, and I'm so grateful for that. Danny, I promise to stay by your side no matter what life throws at us. I promise to share my successes and failures with you, and if life ever threatens to pull us apart again, I promise that we as a team will choose the right path for us. Together. I love everything about you, even the parts that may get on some people's nerves because those are the things that make you who you are: the man I love. I love you, Danny."
Reverend Gibbler was visibly touched as he wiped a tear from his eye. "That was beautiful!" he sobbed. Once he had regained composure, he motioned for Danny to recite his vows.
"Vicky, when I got married for the first time almost twenty years ago, I thought I was set. I had met the woman of my dreams and we had three beautiful daughters together. Back then, I never could have imagined what life was going to throw at me. After losing Pam, I didn't know if I would ever be able to truly fall in love again. But then I met you. Not only did you fully embrace the chaos that is the Tanner household, but you showed how to be a better person. You've been the cool, calm, and logical that has helped me through some of the tougher sides of being a single parent. I never knew how much I really needed that until you came along. I always knew that I wanted to get married again so that my girls would have another chance at having the mother they need, but the truth is that I need you just as much. A few days ago, I almost lost you, and I didn't know if I was going to be able to handle another heartbreak. But I had to go by the old saying that I've heard all my life: "If you love someone, set them free. If they come back to you, it was meant to be." I'm so glad you came back because I don't know what I would have done without you. You're my partner, and together I know that we can get through whatever parenthood and life in general throws at us. I love you, Vicky."
Once again, Reverend Gibbler was verklempt, but he managed to make it through the rest of the ceremony, and after the official "I Dos", he declared, "I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss your bride!" Danny passionately kissed Vicky before sweeping her up off the ground and carrying her back up the aisle.
Later, the rest of the family watched as the newlyweds danced to their song "Love Will Keep Us Together".
"Have you ever seen Dad this happy?" Stephanie asked.
"Not since they brought back lemon Pledge," DJ responded. The girls laughed. Uncle Jesse walked up and put one arm around each of them. "Oh, I wish you girls could have been there to see your mom and dad dancing on their wedding day. Oh, they were so happy. Two kids, crazy in love. Not a care in the world. I'd never thought I'd see your dad smile like that again after Pam died. But here we are. Isn't this beautiful, Joseph?" Jess turned to address his friend but found that he had wandered off and was now sampling from the buffet table.
When the song ended, Danny and Vicky came over to join the rest of the family. "If I may," Uncle Jesse, "I would like to propose a toast to the happy couple. I think I can say on behalf of all of us that we love you dearly and look forward to following along with you on this crazy journey that we call life. You two are perfect for each other and you deserve all of the happiness in the world. And, may I also say, Vicky, you are one very lucky lady because you are about to move into the cleanest house in San Francisco, if not on the entire planet. To Danny and Vicky!" Everyone raised their glasses and cheered as the newlyweds kissed.
A/N: Thank you to everyone who has shown their support by reviewing, favoriting, and following. I've been on a Full House binge watch the last few weeks and I wasn't happy with how Danny and Vicky's story ended so I thought I would take matters into my own hands! :) I have a few more ideas for this story and would like to keep it going at least until the baby is born, so if you want to read more, please let me know!
