A/N: Here's a bonus mini chapter because this scene was so adorable that I couldn't wait to share it! Enjoy!
"So you see, Andy," Danny explained to his unborn son as he sprayed some cleaner on a rag and wiped down the surface of his dresser, "using just water can help get rid of regular dust and dirt that can build up on furniture, but that can also damage the wood, so it's important to use furniture polish to protect your surfaces and keep them looking pristine!" Danny turned to face his wife and proudly displayed his can of furniture polish as if he was starring in an infomercial.
Vicky chuckled and rolled from her back to her side to face her husband, propping her head up with one arm. "How has Pledge not hired you as their spokesmodel?" She wondered.
"Oh, they've asked!" Danny replied. "I turned them down because they shoot commercials in Los Angeles and doing that commute every week would be torture!" Danny laughed heartily and Vicky smiled and rolled her eyes as if to say, "Oh, you!".
Danny pulled back the covers and slid into bed next to his wife, giving her a peck on the forehead before turning his attention to her stomach.
"Andrew, you better let your Mommy and I get some good rest tonight because your Grandma Liz is coming tomorrow and she's probably going to drive us all crazy!"
Vicky slapped Danny on the wrist. "My mother is not that bad!" She said defensively. "Honestly, Danny, I don't know what you're so anxious about. You're acting as though this is the first time she's visited. She knows you keep a clean house. I'm sure she won't notice if the kitchen's only been mopped twice today!"
"I know she wouldn't," said Danny, "It just feels different this time. She's staying for three weeks and I'm just afraid that she's going to come in here and expect the house to be completely ready for the baby, which it clearly isn't! I haven't even set up the crib yet!" Danny gestured toward a box at the end of the bed.
"Danny, relax! My baby shower isn't until Saturday and my mother knows that Andy is going to be sleeping in our room, so it's not like she expects us to have a whole nursery prepared! She even offered to have a team come in after the shower to help us rearrange the bedroom and set up a little nursery nook. Trust me, Honey, my mother is fully aware that we still have plenty to do before the baby gets here!" She stroked Danny's arm gently as he took a deep, cleansing breath.
"Sweetheart," asked Vicky, "Are you afraid that the house isn't ready for the baby or that you aren't ready for the baby?"
Danny sighed. "You know me so well."
Vicky nodded sympathetically and ran her fingers through his hair. "Danny, what's really bothering you?"
"I guess," Danny began, "I guess I'm just a little nervous about having a newborn in the house again. I mean, Michelle's almost eight! That means it's been eight years since I've done all of the late-night feedings and the diaper changes and teething spells. What if I've forgotten how to do all of it? And you! You've never done any of this before. How am I supposed to teach you if I can't even remember?!"
Vicky threw her head back and laughed. "Oh, Honey," she said, "Babies aren't rocket science! I know I've never had a baby before, but I'm sure the basic mechanics are just like riding a bicycle. How hard can it be to change a diaper?"
"Oh, you would be surprised. Just ask Jesse and Joey!" Danny snickered and his wife joined in, leaning over to lay her head on his chest.
"Don't worry, Sweetheart," Vicky assured him, "Even if you forget how to do everything, we'll have both of our mothers plus Becky here to help. For now, let's just focus on actually getting the baby here. Remember the doctor told us last week that this is not a small baby, so that's the part I'm most worried about. Danny, I'm really going to need you to be the calm, cool, and collected one for me this time if I'm going to get through this delivery."
Danny nodded obediently. "Ay, ay, Captain!"
Vicky gave her husband a confused look.
"Oh, see, in one of the birthing classes I went to with Pam, the instructor explained that the woman giving birth is like the captain of the ship, and her coach is like a first mate, ready to attend to the mother's every need!"
Vicky giggled. "Well, I couldn't have asked for a better first mate!"
"Trust me, Vicky, you're going to do great! It's going to be a lot of hard work, but once you're holding that baby boy in your arms," He grabbed her hand and placed it on top of her stomach, putting his hand on top of hers. "It's all going to be worth it," Danny assured her.
Vicky smiled sweetly. "I know it will be. I love you, Danny."
"I love you, too!"
She kissed her husband goodnight and turned over to go to sleep. "Goodnight, Sweetheart!"
"Goodnight, Honey!" Danny rolled over and lay his head on his pillow. Once he thought his wife had fallen asleep, Danny pulled a book from his nightstand and began skimming through it.
"Danny…" Vicky warned.
"What? I'm just brushing up on my Lamaze," Danny insisted. "A first mate can never be too prepared!"
Vicky sighed. "Fine. Goodnight."
