Chapter 56

Hi everyone! Here is the next chapter for you! We are headed into season 5! So, that means requests are open for season 4B on my one-shot series! Feel free to give me some requests here or on that story. I don't have any requests for it, so if you want it to continue, I'll need some ideas :)

Enjoy :)

"Hanna. Hanna, wake up."

Hanna heard the voice and opened her eyes to find the pirate grinning down at her. She quickly sat up. "Killian! You're alive!"

"Aye. Like I've told your sister, I'm a survivor," he reached out his hand. "Come on let's get you up off the floor."

"Thanks," Hanna said with a smile as she took his hand and stood. "Thanks for helping us back in that…you know, other place. We couldn't have done it without you."

"It was my pleasure," Killian told her with a nod of his head.

"Where is he? Where's Hook?" they heard Emma say from downstairs.

Hanna opened her mouth to let Emma know they were up here, but Killian stopped her. He put a finger to his mouth for her to stay quiet and gave her a wink. Hanna grinned. He wanted to make Emma worry for a moment. They both walked to the door and listened.

"He was there," David said. "Right before we got dragged away."

"Everyone reappeared where they were before this whole mess started," Emma said. Hanna could hear the panic in her voice. "No…"

Hanna watched Killian poke his head out.

"Yeah sorry about the mess," he said. "I really needed to find that book, and I'm usually a bit tidier."

Emma instantly came running up the stairs. "Killian!" She wrapped her arms around him, hugging him so tightly they fell back onto Hanna's bed.

Hanna just quietly left the room to give them a moment alone. She ran down the stairs and into her parents' arms. Snow and Charming wrapped their arms tightly around their daughter, never wanting to let go.

David kissed the top of her head. "Are you alright princess?"

Hanna looked up at her dad with a smile. "Yeah, I am."

"I'm sorry I locked you in that tower, baby." Snow told her.

"It's okay, Mom. I know it wasn't really you."

"Good," Snow said with a sigh of relief as she pulled her daughter close to her again. She felt so guilty for all she had done in that other realm.

I'm just glad it's all over," Hanna told them.

Snow nodded. "Us too."

"We need to go find that author," David said. "We can't let him get away with this."

Snow agreed with her husband. "Let's go."

"Can I go find Henry?" Hanna asked. She needed to talk to him. She owed him a huge apology for how she treated him when they were in that other realm.

"Sure, sweetie. Just meet us at Granny's when you're done," Snow told her.

"Okay, I will," Hanna said as she ran out the door.

She wasn't sure where he would be, but Hanna knew she'd find him. Luckily, she didn't have to search for long. She spotted him walking into Town Hall, he was probably going to Regina's office.

"Henry!" Hanna ran towards him at full force and hugged him tightly. "You did it!"

"We all did," Henry said with a smile.

Hanna stepped back and looked up at him. "Henry, I'm sorry for the way I treated you back there."

Henry shook his head. "It's not your fault. Isaac wrote you that way. I knew that."

"So you won't hold it against me?"

Henry shrugged his shoulders. "Eh, not for too long at least."

Hanna just grinned. She looked down and saw the pen in Henry's hand. "So, you're the author now. How does that feel?"

Henry looked down at his pen and sighed. "I don't…I don't know yet."

"Henry, what is it?"

"Hanna, do you think…do you think I could use this to bring my dad back?"

"Oh Henry, I…I'm not really sure."

"It's fine. It was just a thought. I'm gonna go up to my mom's office for awhile."

Hanna nodded her head. She wished she could do more to help, but she could tell Henry just wanted to be alone. "Come to Granny's when you're done, okay?"

"I will," Henry told her with a small smile.

Hanna watched him walk inside, then turned and headed for Granny's. When she walked up to the door she saw Regina about to go inside. "Regina!"

Regina turned and smiled when she saw Hanna running up to her. She was surprised when Hanna wrapped her arms around her, but she gladly returned the hug.

Hanna released her grip and looked up at Regina. "I'm glad you're okay."

"Me too," Regina told her with a wink.

"Thanks for…you know…looking out for me there. I know it wasn't real, but…" Hanna shrugged. She wasn't really sure what to say.

Regina placed her hands on Hanna's shoulders and looked into her eyes. "I'm glad I was able to be there for you and just because we're back here now doesn't change that. I know you have your mom and your sister, but if you ever need anything from me, I'll be here for you, okay?"

Hanna smiled. "Thanks Regina."

"How about we go inside and order up some hot chocolates for everyone?" Regina suggested.

"Yes please!" Hanna said with a nod as she followed Regina inside.

Hanna walked in and spotted her parents standing near the bar with Neal. She made her way over to them, excited to see her baby brother.

David noted the look on his daughter's face. "I think somebody else missed you too Neal." David said as he reached him out towards Hanna.

"Hi baby!" Hanna said as she took Neal from her dad and kissed his little cheeks. "Is he okay?" she asked her parents.

"He's just fine," David said as he rubbed the back of Neal's head.

"He was just waking up from his nap when we got here," Snow told her. "Weren't you, buddy?"

"You're the best napper around, aren't you?" Hanna said as she reached out her finger. She smiled when his little fingers tightly wrapped around hers.

"Did you find Henry?" Snow asked Hanna.

"Yeah, I did. He should be coming soon. Did you guys find Isaac?"

"We did. He's safely locked away," David assured her.

"That's a relief," Hanna said. "He deserves to be locked up forever."

"I second that," Emma said as she came up behind Hanna.

"Emma!" Hanna turned around and gave her sister a hug.

"Hey Han," Emma said as she returned the hug. She was glad to have her sister back to normal.

Hanna looked up at Emma. "I was kind of a pain back in that other realm, huh?"

"You? A pain? Never," Emma grinned.

"Well, I am sorry," Hanna told her sincerely.

Emma shook her head. "You have nothing to be sorry for."

"We on the other hand do," Snow said as she glanced up at Killian who came into the diner with Emma.

"I didn't mean to kill you," David told him. "To be fair, I didn't have a heart," he continued as he looked at Snow.

"So, it's my fault?" Snow said as she gave her husband a look. "What I think he means to say is, we are sorry."

"Eh, you don't need to be sorry. Although, I do intend to hold it over your heads for a very long time," Killian told them with a grin.

"I think we all know what happened in that world was not real," Emma looked over at Hanna and gave her a smile. "Although, seeing you guys as villains," Emma said to her parents, "made me sorry for holding a grudge against you for so long." Emma reached out and gave her mom and dad a hug. She was proud of the heroes her parents became and regretted not forgiving them sooner.

"So, you have to tell us," Snow said, "just how did you get us out of that dreadful storybook and back here?"

"Oh that's right, you don't know about Henry do you?" Hanna asked. She forgot that the evil counterparts of her parents weren't present when they erased Isaac's story.

"What happened to Henry?" Snow asked as she looked over at her grandson, who had arrived and was sitting in a booth looking at his storybook. "Is he alright?"

"Yeah, he's fine Mom," Emma assured her.

"He's the new author!" Hanna told her.

"He's what?" David asked.

"The author, Dad. What Henry wrote erased everything Isaac had done. He just picked up Isaac's quill and…" Hanna tried to explain when someone came rushing into the diner.

They all turned to find Belle, who was practically out of breath.

"Rumple…his heart. He said it's almost gone. And uh…he said we're in danger." she told everyone.

"We have to do something," David said.

"The Apprentice…he'll know how to fix this," Emma said. "Come on, let's go."

As everyone followed Emma, Snow turned to Hanna. "Neal can stay with Granny if you want to come."

Hanna shook her head. "I'll stay here with him." Neal's little hand was still tightly grasping her finger and he was just so content in her arms. She didn't want to put him down.

"Okay, sweetie. We'll be back soon." Snow gave her son and daughter each a quick kiss on the forehead before she followed the group.

Hanna nervously paced Granny's as she bounced Neal in her arms. She didn't know what they were going to do about the darkness that was threatening to take over Rumple's heart. She hoped the Apprentice would know exactly what to do. She didn't even want to think what he would be like if his heart succumbed completely to the darkness. Rumplestiltskin was bad enough, but if there was only darkness living inside of him…well, Hanna just didn't want to think about that.

As Hanna walked up to the window, she could see her mom and dad standing in the street. Something was wrong. Hanna quickly took Neal to the back room.

"Granny, I need you to take Neal," Hanna said in a panic.

Granny took the baby from Hanna. "What happened?"

"I…I don't know. My mom and dad are outside though. I'll be right back." Without even waiting for a response, Hanna ran back through the diner, out the front door, and towards her parents. "Is everything okay? Did you…" She noticed they were looking around for something. "What is it?"

"It's the darkness. We got it out of Gold, but…" David started to say.

"It's flying around town somewhere," Snow continued.

Just then Emma and Killian ran up to them. Hanna noticed Emma was holding the Dark One's dagger.

"Where is it?" Emma asked.

"We don't know," David told her.

"It just disappeared into the night," Snow said.

Regina and Robin joined them. "What's going on?" Regina asked.

"The dark one—it's no longer tethered to the crocodile," Killian informed them.

"What? Where the hell is it?" Regina asked.

They all looked around for it, but saw nothing.

"It hasn't gone anywhere," Emma said. The darkness—it's surrounding us."

They continued to look for it, when all of a sudden Regina gasped as the darkness encircled her.

"Regina!" Robin yelled as Regina struggled to get free.

No one knew what to do. They didn't know how to help Regina.

"What's it doing?" Hanna shouted over the loud wind.

"What darkness does," Emma said, "snuffing out the light."

"I'm not going to let it." Robin ran up to Regina, but the darkness threw him back.

"That's not gonna work on this thing!" Emma yelled. The wind was starting to become stronger. "The Apprentice told me we have to do what the Sorcerer did! We have to tether it to a person to contain it!" Emma walked closer to Regina.

"Emma!" Snow yelled in a panic.

"No! There has to be another way," Regina said to Emma.

"There isn't. You've worked too hard to have your happiness destroyed!" Emma reached the dagger back, ready to use it to contain the darkness.

"No!" David said, reaching out his hand for his daughter.

Emma turned to her parents. "You figured out how to take the darkness out of me once. You need to do it again—as heroes."

"Emma, wait! We can come up with another plan!" Hanna pleaded as tears streamed down her face.

"This is the only way, Han." Emma told her sister, giving her a small smile to let her know she'd be okay. "Help Mom and Dad find a way to save me, okay?"

Hanna nodded her head. "I will. I promise."

"Emma! Emma, please!" Hook shouted.

Hanna watched Hook run up to Emma. They were saying something to each other, but Hanna couldn't hear what they said. The wind was drowning them out. Emma pushed Killian back and turned, plunging the dagger into the darkness. The darkness began to remove itself from Regina, who ran straight to Robin. The darkness surrounded Emma. Light was flashing and the wind continued to blow.

Hanna could hear her sister's screams. Hanna couldn't take it, she had to do something. When she tried to move though, she couldn't. She looked down and saw her dad's arms wrapped around her waist, holding her back. "Dad, let me go! We can't let it take her!" Hanna continued to struggle, trying to get free. She tried pulling at his hands to loosen his grip, but he was too strong.

"Hanna, stop! There's nothing we can do," David told her.

"But Daddy we…" Hanna started to say when there was a big flash of light. The darkness disappeared, along with Emma. The only thing that remained was the dagger. Hanna watched as it came crashing to the ground. She felt her dad's grip loosen, and she ran to where her sister had just been standing. She picked up the dagger from the ground and read the name on the blade, Emma Swan.

"How could she be so stupid?" Regina yelled in frustration.

"Regina!" David yelled back.

Regina threw her hands up. "Well, there had to be another way."

"There wasn't," Snow said as tears fell from her eyes. "That thing was going to kill you. She saved your life."

"Don't you think I know that?"

"And now she's the…" Henry said as he ran up to the group. "Dark One."

"Now she's a problem—for all of us." Regina said.

"She's still good." Snow said, clearly becoming frustrated with her stepmother.

"I hope so," Regina told her. "It's not like she rode off on a unicorn. She got sucked up by a vortex of evil."

"Where is she?" Robin asked. "Where's she gone?"

"It doesn't really matter," Hook said as he walked up to where Hanna was standing with the dagger.

Hanna only faintly heard what everyone else had just been saying. She couldn't take her eyes off of her sister's name. Emma Swan was perfectly etched onto the blade. She was the Dark One now. Hanna just couldn't seem to wrap her head around all of this. Everything just happened so fast. They were just suppose to be stopping the darkness from completely taking over Rumplestiltskin's heart, not setting it free so it could take over someone else's. This wasn't right, Emma didn't deserve this.

Hanna pulled herself from her thoughts when she saw Killian walking up to her. She looked into his eyes and knew what he wanted. She reached out her hand and gave him the dagger. She watched as he held up the blade and commanded the Dark One to appear to him. You were suppose to be able to summon the Dark One from any corner of the world with the dagger. The fact that this wasn't working, told them something that would make all of this even more difficult…Emma wasn't in this world.

They went back to Gold's shop to talk to the Apprentice. He told them that Emma was back in the Enchanted Forest. He gave them a wand that would take them where they needed to go. The wand contained all the light magic. It wouldn't work on its own though. In order to cross realms, it must be wielded as it was forged—with both sides of the coin—the light and the dark. Regina tried, but she couldn't get the wand to work. She no longer had darkness in her. Killian knew who they needed…someone wicked. Regina did not like the idea of asking her sister for anything, but realized it may be the only way. In the morning, they would go to the Wicked Witch for help.

Hanna reluctantly went home with her parents. Henry came with them too. As soon as they got inside, Henry ran up the stairs. Hanna followed him. She walked into their room and found him laying on his bed, just staring at the ceiling. Hanna went to sit on her own bed. She had something she wanted to ask Henry, but she wasn't sure how he would respond.

"Henry…" he looked over at her and she continued. "Look, I know you're not suppose to do this, but maybe you could use your pen to change all of this…just once. You can save Emma and make all of this go away."

Henry shook his head. "I broke it."

"What?" Hanna sighed. "Well, why did you…"

"Because I just did!" Henry shouted.

"Henry it's okay. We'll…"

"It's not okay, Hanna!" Henry rolled over, indicating that he was done talking.

"Well fine then!" Hanna stood and left the room.

She went across the hallway and sat down on Emma's bed. She reached under the pillow and pulled out Emma's baby blanket. Holding it in her hands made her feel closer to Emma. A few tears fell down Hanna's cheeks as she thought about what her sister must be going through right now. What was the darkness doing to her? Was she all alone? Would she be completely evil by now? Hanna shook her head at that last thought. Emma was the saviour…the product of true love. She wouldn't succumb to the darkness that easily. Hanna was sure of that. If they could get that wand to work tomorrow and get to Emma, Hanna knew they wouldn't be too late. They could get to Emma in time. They could help her before the darkness began to take over. Even if Hanna was wrong, and Emma was giving in to the darkness inside of her, they still had the dagger. They could keep Emma from doing anything that would darken her heart. Hanna thought about the dagger some more. It was sitting downstairs on the table. Killian gave it to Snow before they left Gold's shop, and her mom set it down there when they came inside. Hanna closed her eyes and held out her hand, picturing the dagger in her grasp. Sure enough when she opened her eyes, there it was right in front of her. Regina's magic lessons were really paying off.

"We will find you, Emma," Hanna whispered as she traced her fingers along the letters that spelled her sister's name.

"We will always find her," David said with a small smile as he came into the room. Snow followed behind, and they both sat down on the bed next to Hanna. "We were sitting at the table staring at that thing when it just disappeared."

"We thought we'd find it up here with you though," Snow told her with a wink.

Hanna sighed. "I just can't stop worrying about her."

"Us too kiddo." David pulled Hanna close and kissed the top of her head.

"You're right, though," Snow said as she brushed the hair from Hanna's face and tucked it behind her ear. "We will find her."

"I know," Hanna said with a nod. "Why can't we just go get that witch to help us now though?"

"Even if Zelena gets the wand to work, there are still other logistics of the spell Regina has to figure out," David told her. "She'll be ready by morning."

"We're also going to need to get some rest if we're going to be able to help Emma," Snow added.

Hanna shook her head. "I don't want to sleep."

Snow sighed. "Hanna…"

"No," Hanna told her firmly.

"Henry is asleep," David told her. They had looked in Hanna and Henry's room before coming across the hall.

"No he's not," Hanna told him. He was faking it. Hanna knew he wouldn't sleep tonight.

Snow and David looked up at each other, knowing she was probably right. Who were they kidding, they weren't going to be able to sleep tonight either. Their baby was in another realm being consumed by the darkness. They wouldn't stop worrying long enough to even close their eyes for a minute.

"Alright, you don't have to sleep," Snow told her. "We'll stay up with you."

Hanna nodded her head. She was glad they were here with her. Hanna had the dagger clutched in one hand and Emma's blanket in the other, she just sat back in the arms of her parents and waited for morning to come.

Morning finally arrived. Hanna and Henry were headed to Granny's. They got tired of sitting around the loft waiting to hear from Regina. Snow and David agreed to let them go to the diner by themselves, allowing the kids the space they needed. Henry and Hanna walked in silence to the diner. Neither had spoken a word to the other since last night. Hanna didn't blame Henry for the way he reacted. She understood where all that anger was coming from. She still wished he would say something though. It wasn't until they were sitting at the bar and had placed their order that he finally spoke.

"I'm just mad at myself," Henry said as he looked up at Hanna.

Hanna nodded. "I know, Henry." She didn't know why he broke the pen, but she was sure he regretted it now.

"I'm sorry I yelled at you last night."

Hanna gave him a smile. "Don't worry about it."

They heard the bell on the door ring and looked over to find Killian walking into the diner and over to where they were sitting. "Henry, you can fix this. You're the author now. Use that pen. Write the darkness out of Emma. Bring her back."

"I broke it," Henry told him.

"You what?"

"It's too much power," Henry explained.

"That's how the last author got into trouble." Hanna told Killian, understanding now why Henry destroyed the pen.

"He stopped recording history and started using magic to change it," Henry added.

"Emma wouldn't want him to do it anyway," Hanna said.

Henry nodded. "She'd want me to be good."

Killian sighed. "Ah, honor. So, you two won't break any rules then?"

The kids looked at each other, then back at Killian—interested in what he was going to say.

"What if there was a way—a dangerous way—to help Emma? Something your parents wouldn't like?"

"We don't need to tell them," Hanna shrugged.

"Yeah," Henry agreed. "We're don't need their permission."

"Good." Killian said. "Because our best bet is the person Regina hates most."

"Zelena." Henry and Hanna said at the same time.

"That's right," Killian said with a nod. "We're going to break out the Wicked Witch."

Henry and Hanna looked at each other and grinned, then followed the pirate out the door.

The trio made their way to the restricted area of the hospital. That's where they were keeping Zelena.

Killian let out a frustrated sigh when they came upon a locked door at the top of the stairs. "Your mother pressed a few of these numbers to open this damn thing earlier. I just can't recall which ones."

"I've got this," Henry said as he quickly pushed the correct buttons, opening the door.

"Well done. How'd you know the code?"

"My mom's good with magic, not so much with passwords," Henry told him. "She uses my birthday for everything."

"Yeah, you wouldn't believe the kinds of things we've been able to break into with that code," Hanna said with a smirk.

"You think she'd change it after a bank statement or two," Henry added.

Killian was impressed with the kids' skills. He was glad he recruited them to help. "So, what's the plan now? How do we get to her?"

"We know what to do," Hanna said as she eyed up the large soda Henry had in his hands.

Hanna and Henry walked through the door at the bottom of the stairs towards the nurse sitting at the desk.

"Hey, Nurse Ratched," Hanna said with a smile.

"What are you two doing down here?"

"Is my mom here?" Henry asked as he "accidentally" spilled his drink all over her.

"Oh! Henry!" the nurse yelled.

"Henry, what did you do!" Hanna exclaimed. "Sorry, Nurse Ratched. He's always so clumsy."

"You! With the mop…a little help!" she yelled.

"I'm so sorry…" Henry said.

As the nurse, and the guy with the mop became distracted with cleaning up the mess, Hanna and Henry made their way to Zelena's room to see if Killian was able to convince her to help. Just as they opened the door, they saw Zelena disappear into a cloud of green smoke.

Henry's eyes went wide. "No!"

"What did you do?" Hanna said as she looked up at Killian.

"Let's go," he answered, ignoring the girl's question.

They followed Killian to Regina's office. They found Regina, Snow, and Charming there when they arrived and explained to them what happened.

"You let her out?" Regina asked, clearly furious with the pirate.

"Technically, I let her escape," he told her.

"Moron!"

"Watch it, your majesty…" Killian said as he continued to fight with Regina.

"Enough!" Snow interrupted. This quarreling wasn't going to help anything. "Zelena's out. That is what matters, but not as much as Emma. Emma kept us united, and that is exactly how we are going to remain. Come hell or high water, we are going to put our nonsense aside and find my daughter, okay?" Snow paused for a moment to make sure they had stopped. "Okay. Where would Zelena go first?"

"I know exactly where," Regina said. "Or more accurately, who she's after."

The group headed down Main Street to find Zelena with Robin, just as Regina thought. She was holding him in place with her magic.

"Hello, sis," the witch said as they all got close. "I see you've fixed the clock. It would be a shame to break it again. Although, it might be fun to see Robin fly like one of his arrows," she taunted. She wanted the wand in exchange for Robin. She wanted to go back to Oz so she could raise her baby away from them.

They watched as Regina tried to decide what to do. Hanna couldn't tell what she was thinking. Would she keep the wand and save Emma? Or give the wand to her sister to save her true love? As Zelena continued to choke Robin with her magic, Regina gave up the wand. Hanna was sure Regina had a plan though. She wouldn't give up on Emma that easily. Hanna watched as Zelena waved the wand summoning a tornado that would take her to Oz. Just as a triumphant grin spread across Zelena's face, the magic zapped her hand, giving Regina time to place the cuff back on Zelena's wrist and take the wand. Hanna smiled, she was going to see her sister soon.

"What the hell happened?" Killian asked.

"What happened is I'm not stupid," Regina said. She turned to her sister. "I knew you could open that portal, but I also knew it would weaken you. See, there's one thing our family does well, sis, and that's exploit pain. Now, we're going to take your portal, but we're not taking it to Oz. We're taking it to Emma,"

Everyone made their way to Granny's and prepared for the departure.

"How do you suppose we get this cyclone to take us to Emma and not to Oz?" Killian asked and the winds became stronger.

"By using this," Regina said as she pulled something from her bag.

"Emma's baby blanket," Snow said, surprised to see it.

Hanna was surprised to see it too. She distinctly remembered placing it back under Emma's pillow this morning.

"I, uh, couldn't very well carry her yellow bug." Regina looked up at Snow. "Ready?"

Snow nodded her head and gave her a smile.

Regina waved her wand over the blanket, guiding the tornado where it needed to go. The strong winds came closer, causing the diner to shake.

"Hold on tight, everyone," Granny shouted over the storm.

Hanna felt her dad wrap his arms around her. She looked up as a few lightbulbs burst. The cups were falling from the shelves. Tables and chairs were sliding everywhere. Hanna just held on tight to her dad as they were lifted high by the swirling green wind.
