Chapter 12 - The Truth Shall Set You Free – Part 1
"About five years ago, after Dylan and I broke up, I visited an old friend in Washington D.C. We spent a few wonderful days together. It was very romantic. One thing led to another and I ended up falling in love with him all over again. Maybe I was getting a little ahead over myself but it just felt so right," said Kelly.
"So why didn't you stay with him?" asked Silver.
"His life was in D.C. and I didn't want to leave L.A. And I got the feeling that he didn't want to take things any further than the visit. So I came back to L.A. A week later, Dylan and I got back together and rest was history," said Kelly.
"Do you think you made the right decision by staying with Dylan?" asked Silver.
"We were in love at the time. That's why I didn't tell him about Washington. When I found out I was pregnant with Sammy, I just assume that it was his," replied Kelly.
"So you had no idea it could've been Brandon's," asked Silver.
"I considered it as a possibility. But I guess I was just thinking of myself at the time. I didn't want to be lonely. I knew if I told Dylan that he may not be the father, I would've lost him," replied Kelly.
"But you ended up losing Brandon, instead," said Silver.
"I know. I wanted to tell Brandon but the more I waited, the harder it got," said Kelly.
"Well, the tables have certainly turned around. Now Dylan is gone and Brandon is back," said Silver.
"Yeah, I noticed. I don't even know if Brandon is the father," said Kelly.
Silver gives Kelly a weird look.
"I didn't mean it like that. The doctor explained on the results that they used Dylan's blood from 1994 for the DNA test. There is a chance that the blood is no longer effective," said Kelly.
"Are you going to ask Brandon to get tested?" asked Silver.
"Looks like I'm going to have to now," replied Kelly.
"I still don't get why you two aren't talking. I thought you two had a good time together," said Silver.
"We did. After being with Brandon for a few days, it just brought back all those good times we spent together. Even only as friends, we can talk just about anything without getting into an argument...as opposed to Dylan. Being in his arms the other day was the best feeling that I had in a long time. I felt special, comforted, and loved. But when he told me that he was planning on moving here, I just panicked because I wasn't ready to let Dylan out of my life because he was Sammy's father. I was wrong. In the end, I gave up on Brandon, who wanted to be with me for me," explained Kelly.
"Kel, Brandon told me the other day that he's still wants to be with you," said Silver.
"I know and a part of me really wants to be with him. But now if I tell him everything, he's going to hate me. Besides, I don't even know if he wants to be with me because of me or because of Sammy," said Kelly.
"Why do you adults always make things so complicated?" asked Silver.
"Just wait till you're a little older. You'll know what I mean," smiled Kelly.
"That's the first time I've seen you smiled in weeks," said Silver.
"Well, thank you for listening. I am very lucky to have you in my life," said Kelly.
"You're welcome. Now, can you tell me one more thing?" asked Silver.
"I told you everything. What else do you want to know?" asked Kelly.
"Can you describe the feeling you had when you were in bed with Brandon? I want to have that feeling with someone one day," smiled Silver.
Kelly gives Silver a look and playfully hits her with her pillows.
"Get out of here!," said Kelly.
"Alright, I'm going," laughed Silver leaving the room.
Brandon woke up the next day in his hotel room by a phone call.
"Hello?" asked Brandon without checking who is calling.
"Hey Brandon," said Brenda.
"Hey Bren, how's Minnesota?" asked Brandon.
"Good. How's L.A.?" asked Brenda.
"Not bad. I think I finally got the office up and running," said Brandon.
"How's mom and dad?" asked Brandon.
"They're the same," said Brenda.
"Umm…have you spoken to Kelly since you got there?" asked Brenda.
"Not for a while; why?" asked Brandon.
"Dylan called and invited me to go on a trip with him. I told Kelly about it. She said she was ok with it but I have the feeling that she wasn't," replied Brenda.
"What do you want me to do about it?" asked Brandon.
"Could you talk to her? Make sure she's alright?" asked Brenda.
"I don't know. I feel weird getting into her business about Dylan. Besides I think she's still vulnerable after Sammy's accident," said Brandon.
"I just make sure she doesn't do anything stupid," said Brenda.
"Don't worry. Kelly's a big girl. She can take care of herself," said Brandon.
"When is Dylan leaving for his trip?" asked Brandon.
"He already left. He's on his way here to pick me up," replied Brenda.
"Oh, I didn't know that," said Brandon.
"I'll talk to you later," said Brenda.
"Ok. See ya Bren," said Brandon.
"Bye," said Brenda.
After knowing that Dylan was gone, Brandon assumed that Kelly was going to miss him. He certainly didn't want to talk to her about Brenda going on the trip with Dylan. As it turns out, Brandon didn't have to make the first move. Kelly was on her way to see him.
Brandon was at work when Kelly arrived at the L.A. office. This was the first time; Kelly had visited Brandon at his work so she didn't know which floor he was on. Judging from the sign on the elevator, all the other floors above 2 were closed.
Kelly walked into the office without a clue of what to say to Brandon. She didn't want to break the news to him at work. She was afraid that Brandon would embarrass himself by causing a scene. She had recalled the last time she visited Brandon at work was at the old Beverly Beat.
"Hi, may I help you?" asked the receptionist.
"Yes, I'm looking for Brandon Walsh," replied Kelly.
"Is Mr. Walsh expecting you?" asked the receptionist.
"No, I just need to talk to him very quickly," replied Kelly.
"What's your name?" asked the receptionist.
"Kelly Taylor," replied Kelly.
"Ok, I'll be right back," said the receptionist as she goes to Brandon's office.
"Thanks," said Kelly.
The receptionist comes back to Kelly.
"Please come in; Mr. Walsh will see you," said the receptionist.
"Thanks," said Kelly as she nervously walks into Brandon's office.
"Kelly, hi. This is an unexpected surprise," said Brandon as he stood up.
"Hi Brandon, how are you?" asked Kelly.
"I'm doing just fine. How about you?" asked Brandon.
"I'm ok," said Kelly.
"So, what did you want to talk to me about?" asked Brandon.
"Umm...I just wanted to thank you for being there for Sammy the other day," said Kelly who is really nervous.
"No problem. I just did what I had to do," said Brandon.
"No, it is a big deal. I didn't know what else would've happen if you didn't show up," said Kelly.
"Thanks Kelly," said Brandon looking at Kelly.
"I also wanted to know if you have any plans for dinner tonight," said Kelly.
"Well, I do plan to eat," smiled Brandon.
"Good, so do I," said Kelly smiling back at Brandon.
Kelly pauses for a bit leaving Brandon confused.
"Is that all?" asked Brandon.
"No; I'm sorry. Would you like to join us for dinner at my place? It would mean a lot to Sammy if you could come," said Kelly.
"To Sammy?" asked Brandon.
"Yes...and to me as well," replied Kelly.
Brandon looks at Kelly for a moment before deciding.
"I'll be there," said Brandon looking at Kelly.
"Great, so I'll see you tonight at 6?" asked Kelly.
"I'll see you at 6," said Brandon.
Kelly turns and leaves.
After Kelly left, Brandon couldn't help but feel a little confused on Kelly showing up at his office. It seemed too much of a coincidence that Brenda had contacted him earlier this morning about talking to Kelly. Maybe Brenda had contacted Kelly too. Brandon certainly didn't want to discuss Brenda and Dylan with Kelly. Even worse, Brandon didn't want to feel that Kelly was lonely again after Dylan left that she wanted to come onto him again. The last thing he wanted was to fall into her trap again, no matter how much he wanted her.
The doorbell rang at a quarter till six at Kelly's house that evening.
"Hi," smiled Kelly as she opened the door.
"Hi," smiled Brandon.
"Please come in," said Kelly.
"Thanks," said Brandon.
"I brought you some apple pie," said Brandon.
"Aww; that's sweet. Thanks," said Kelly.
"So, where's Sammy?" asked Brandon.
"In this room," replied Kelly.
"Sammy...dinner!" said Kelly loudly.
Sammy runs out of his room.
"Brandon!," said Sammy as he goes and hugs him.
"Hey there, buddy. How are you feeling?" asked Brandon.
"Good. Thank you for the bear," replied Sammy.
"You're welcome...I'm just glad you're ok," said Brandon.
"Yeah, he can't go anywhere without it now," said Kelly.
"Good. You can take care of each other," said Brandon to Sammy.
Sammy smiles as Silver come into the room.
"C'mon honey, let's get cleaned up for dinner," said Kelly walking with Sammy to the bathroom.
"Hey Brandon," said Silver who goes and hugs Brandon.
"Hey Silver," said Brandon.
"It's good to see you finally have the courage to come inside again," said Silver.
"Well, I couldn't stay away for too long," said Brandon.
"Kelly is very glad you're here," said Silver.
"Gee...thanks," said Brandon who is confused.
Silver did most of the talking throughout dinner. Brandon looked up at Kelly a few times to see her looking back at him. Brandon smiled at her and she smiled back. Looking at her, Brandon definitely felt that Kelly was up to something. But at the same time, he didn't want to ruin it without knowing exactly what is was. After all, since it's been a few weeks, it was great to see Kelly again, even if it was for a little while.
After dinner, Brandon came out of the bathroom to find Kelly sitting at the kitchen table eating the apple pie that Brandon brought over.
"Still hungry?" asked Brandon.
"Yeah; I love apple pie," said Kelly.
"I know," said Brandon smiling at her.
"You want some?" asked Kelly.
"Sure," replied Brandon.
"Silver and Sammy didn't want any?" asked Brandon as Kelly cuts him a piece.
"No, they were full," replied Kelly.
"It's good," said Brandon having a taste.
"So where are you staying?" asked Kelly.
"The same hotel I was in before, The Ramada," replied Brandon.
"Brandon, thanks for coming over for dinner," said Kelly.
"Thanks for having me," said Brandon.
"I also wanted to apologize for the last time we talked. I shouldn't have treated you that way," said Kelly.
"Kel, I should be the one who should be apologizing to you. I shouldn't accuse you of using me. Whatever's going on with you and Dylan is none of my business," said Brandon.
"Believe me, Brandon. There is nothing going on between Dylan and me. We can barely get through a conversation without getting into a fight," said Kelly.
"Please understand that I reacted the way I did was because you were somewhat right about me," added Kelly.
"What do you mean?" asked Brandon.
"I was lonely. Any new guy I would meet would always have problems with me being a mom," said Kelly.
"It's their lost," said Brandon.
"That's sweet of you to say. But after seeing you, I wanted you," said Kelly.
"How am I different?" asked Brandon.
"Because you aren't just any guy to me...you never were," said Kelly.
"I feel the same way about you...only that you're a girl," smiled Brandon.
Kelly smiled back at Brandon.
"Kelly, I missed you," said Brandon.
"I missed you too, Brandon," said Kelly.
"So, what does this mean?" asked Brandon.
"I don't know but I am open to suggestions," replied Kelly.
Brandon pauses for a few seconds thinking of what to say.
"I think it's best for us to give it some time so that we can both make sure this is what we both want," said Brandon.
"Right. That's just what I was thinking," said Kelly who is disappointed.
"Good, now I that I'm back for good, I'll have plenty of time to convince you," joked Brandon.
"What if I say, I'm already convinced?" asked Kelly who was seriously.
Brandon doesn't reply.
"Brandon, I was just kidding," said Kelly who notices Brandon's silence.
"Oh good, because for a minute there, I thought you were serious," said Brandon.
"No, I'm willing to wait. It'll make things more special," said Kelly looking at Brandon.
"Yes, it will," said Brandon.
Brandon and Kelly stay silent for a minute.
"Can I get you something to drink?" asked Kelly.
"No, thanks for the pie...but I should get going," replied Brandon.
"So soon?" asked Kelly.
"Yeah, I got to be at work early tomorrow for interviews," replied Brandon who is heading towards the door.
"Ok. Thanks again for everything," said Kelly.
"Thanks for dinner and the company," said Brandon.
"My pleasure. It was good seeing you again," said Kelly who was hoping Brandon would lean in and kiss her.
"It's good to see you too," replied Brandon who wanted to lean in and kiss her.
"Bye," said Brandon as he leaves without kissing Kelly.
"Bye," said Kelly who is disappointed.
After Brandon left, Silver comes out of her room.
"So, did you tell him?" asked Silver.
"No, I couldn't," replied Kelly.
"I thought so...I didn't hear him screaming," smiled Silver.
"Why didn't you tell him?" asked Silver.
"It's too soon. We just made up. I don't want to ruin it," replied Kelly.
"So you two are back together?" asked Silver.
"No, he wanted to take his time to make sure it's the right thing to do," replied Kelly.
"I still think you should've told him. Then you can get back together," said Silver.
"I know," said Kelly.
"Is that what you want?" asked Silver.
"Yes," replied Kelly.
Coming next - Kelly finally tells Brandon.
