Chapter 22 - The Boy Formerly Known as My Son
The next few days went by pretty smoothly. Brandon continued to bring some of his stuff over to Kelly's. In turn, Brandon got to spend a lot of quality time with Sammy. As they played and talked, Sammy really saw Brandon as the father he never knew but always wanted.
It's late and Brandon and Kelly are in Kelly's bedroom.
"So Sammy is very excited about his birthday party," said Brandon.
"I bet he is after you told him what he'll be getting," smiled Kelly.
"Not anything he couldn't figure out by himself," said Brandon.
"Oh, face it, Brandon. You've gotten soft on him," smiled Kelly.
"Yeah, I guess so," smiled Brandon.
"Just like you are on me," smiled Kelly.
"Oh really? I'd bet you can't get me to tell you what I got for you?" asked Brandon smiling.
"You got me something?" asked Kelly smiling.
"Yes, I did," replied Brandon.
"Why? What's the occasion?" asked Kelly.
"No occasion. I just wanted to show you how much I love you," replied Brandon.
"Brandon, you show me that every day. You don't have to get me anything," said Kelly.
"I know but when I saw it, I immediately thought of you," smiled Brandon.
"Well thanks, but I'm pretty happy with what you've already given me," said Kelly.
"And what is that?" asked Brandon.
"Happiness and something to look forward to everyday...and night," replied Kelly.
"Thanks...I feel the same way," smiled Brandon.
"So what did you get me?" asked Kelly smiling.
"No, I'm not telling," replied Brandon.
"Oh, I'd bet I can get it out of you," smiled Kelly as she leans closer to Brandon.
As they kiss, Kelly slips her hand under Brandon's shirt.
"Hey, no fair. You know I'm a sucker for that," smiled Brandon.
"Why do you think I went straight for it?" asked Kelly.
"The sooner you tell me, the sooner I can give you your present," smiled Kelly.
"You got me something?" asked Brandon smiling.
"Yes and my gift keeps on giving," replied Kelly as they kiss.
"Oh speaking of gifts…," said Kelly as they break.
"What?" asked Brandon.
"I've talked to Dylan and he said he'll definitely be here on Sunday for Sammy's party," replied Kelly.
"Ok," said Brandon.
Kelly senses that Brandon is not nervous at all.
"You're ok with this, right?" asked Kelly.
"Yeah, why wouldn't I be?" asked Brandon.
"Nothing, it's just that I thought you would be a little nervous about telling Dylan," replied Kelly.
"Like how you are nervous right now?" asked Brandon.
"It's just that I'm afraid how he's gonna react when I tell him," said Kelly.
"If it makes it any easier on you, I'll be there too," said Brandon.
"No, I think it's better if he hears this from me alone," said Kelly.
"You sure?" asked Brandon.
"Yeah, I don't want him to think that we're double-teaming him," replied Kelly.
"How bad could it be?" asked Brandon.
"If only you saw how mad he was when the doctor told him that he may never have children," replied Kelly.
"Poor Dylan," said Brandon.
"And to think I was just complaining about how lonely my life was...before I got back together with you," added Brandon.
"Just be thankful," said Kelly.
"I am," said Brandon holding Kelly's hand.
On the night before Sammy's birthday, there is a knock on Kelly's front door.
Kelly opens the door and sees Dylan.
"Hey Kel," smiled Dylan.
"Hey," smiled Kelly as she is surprised to see him a day early.
"You look surprised to see me," said Dylan.
"Yeah, it's just that you're a day early. I didn't think you'll be here until tomorrow," said Kelly.
They hug and Dylan comes in. Kelly closes the door.
"Yeah, I didn't know if there was gonna be a delay like last time so I decided to leave a day early," said Dylan.
"And now you're here a day early," said Kelly.
"Yeah. I just didn't want to disappoint Sammy…or you," said Dylan as he sits down on the couch.
"Right...can you hold on for one minute? I'll be right back," asked Kelly.
"Sure, I'll be there," smiled Dylan.
Kelly quickly walks back to her bedroom and closes the door behind her.
"What's the matter?" asked Brandon.
"Whatever you do, you gotta stay in this room," replied Kelly.
"Only if you join me," smiled Brandon.
"Brandon, this is not funny. Dylan's here," said Kelly.
"Ok, let me go out there and say hi," said Brandon.
"No, I don't want him to see us like this yet," said Kelly panicking.
"Like what? Like a couple?" asked Brandon confused.
"Brandon, I don't want him to overreact," replied Kelly.
"So what's your plan?" asked Brandon.
"I'll ask him to go for a walk or something. Then I'll tell him," replied Kelly.
"What about me?" asked Brandon.
"You leave after we leave," replied Kelly.
"Is there something going on between the two of you?" asked Brandon confused.
"No, there is nothing," replied Kelly.
"Kel, I don't understand why we can't just go out there and tell him right now," said Brandon.
"Because it'll be too much for him to handle," said Kelly.
"Look Brandon. I love you and I know this sounds weird but you just gotta trust me on this. Ok?" asked Kelly getting closer to Brandon.
"You better be worth it," said Brandon.
"Thanks," said Kelly giving Brandon a quick kiss.
"And you promise you'll tell him everything?" asked Brandon.
"Yes, I promise," replied Kelly.
Kelly leaves her room and closes the door behind her.
Kelly goes back to the living room.
"Sorry about that," said Kelly.
"It's ok. Am I in the middle of something?" asked Dylan.
"No. I was just on a call with a parent of a student I'm helping in school," replied Kelly.
"That's what's so great about you, Kel. You care about people, just like I do," said Dylan.
"Thanks...can I get you anything? Something to drink?" asked Kelly.
"Water's fine," replied Dylan.
"Ok," said Kelly as she goes to the kitchen.
"Kel, I'm sorry for dropping by so early. I can go to a hotel instead if you want," said Dylan.
"No, that's fine. I'm glad you're here," said Kelly coming back with Dylan's water.
"Good, that gives us a chance to talk," said Dylan.
"Yeah, we should...why don't we..." said Kelly as she gets interrupted by someone coming in the door.
"Hey Kel...Dylan, hey," said Silver going to give Dylan a hug.
"Hey Silver. You look great," said Dylan.
"Thanks...when did you get back into town?" asked Silver.
"Just an hour ago," replied Dylan.
"Silver, are you going to bed right away?" asked Kelly.
"Eh, no. I'll be up for a little while longer. Why?" asked Silver.
"I was wondering if you can keep an eye on Sammy. I want to take a little walk with Dylan," replied Kelly.
"Eh, sure," said Silver.
"Is that ok?" asked Kelly to Dylan.
"Sure," replied Dylan.
"Great. Sammy's already asleep...so it shouldn't be a problem," said Kelly.
"No problem," said Silver.
"Thanks," said Kelly.
"Sure," said Silver.
Kelly grabbed her coat and she and Dylan walked out the door.
They are walking down the street.
"So how's Brenda?" asked Kelly.
"Brenda? She's fine," replied Dylan.
"Did you two have a good time together?" asked Kelly.
"We're just friends, Kel. But yes, we did," replied Dylan.
"So what did you want to talk to me about?" asked Kelly.
"I wanted to tell you that I'm planning to stay in L.A. for a while" replied Dylan.
"Why?" asked Kelly.
"I want to be a better father to Sammy," replied Dylan.
"Dylan..," said Kelly as she is interrupted by Dylan.
"Kel, I know that I haven't really called or keep in touch since I last left," said Dylan.
"But it's just that you seemed so mad at me for some reason and you won't tell me what it was bothering you," added Dylan.
"I wasn't mad at you," said Kelly.
"Looks like you've gotten over it since I left," said Dylan.
"What happened? Were you glad I left?" asked Dylan.
"No, it wasn't like that," replied Kelly.
"Then what was it?" asked Dylan.
"Dylan, I've met somebody and we fell in love," replied Kelly.
"Anybody I know?" asked Dylan.
"Yeah...it's Brandon," replied Kelly.
"Was this what you didn't want to tell me before I left?" asked Dylan.
"No, we got together after you left," replied Kelly.
"So whatever it was, I assume Brandon helped you out with it. Am I right?" asked Dylan.
"It wasn't like that. We just started spending a lot of time together and one thing led to another," replied Kelly.
"And you're in love with him?" asked Dylan.
"Yeah, I am," replied Kelly.
"Kel, I can't say I'm surprised," said Dylan.
"What?" asked Kelly who is confused.
"I knew this would happen once Brandon moved back to L.A.," replied Dylan.
"Are you mad?" asked Kelly.
Dylan looks at Kelly for a moment.
"No, he's a good guy. If you two are serious, I can live with that," replied Dylan.
"We are...and thank you for understanding," said Kelly.
"So I guess this means that Sammy's gonna have two dads looking after him now," said Dylan.
"What do you mean?" asked Kelly.
"I'll be with Sammy when I'm here and Brandon will be there for him when I'm not," replied Dylan.
"Right...about that...Dylan, I need to tell you something," said Kelly.
"What?" asked Dylan.
"Right after you left, the doctor gave me the results of your blood test," replied Kelly.
"What blood test? I didn't take any blood test," asked Dylan.
"They used a sample from your crash in 1995," replied Kelly.
"That doctor. I'm so sick of everyone in that hospital; they're all just a bunch of crooks," said Dylan.
"Dylan, would you just listen to me?" asked Kelly.
"Fine, what is it?" asked Dylan.
"It shows that you're not Sammy's father," replied Kelly.
"What do you mean I'm not the father?" asked Dylan.
"That's what the test said," replied Kelly.
"Well the test is wrong, especially if it came from that hospital," said Dylan.
"Dylan, I know this is hard to hear but the test is right," said Kelly.
"Whose side are you on?" asked Dylan.
"I'm not taking any sides, Dylan. I'm just telling you the truth," replied Kelly.
"No, the truth is that I was there...unless you were seeing somebody behind my back," said Dylan.
"Dylan, I wasn't cheating on you," said Kelly.
"Then who else could it be?" asked Dylan.
"Look, a couple of weeks before you and I got back together, I was in Washington," replied Kelly.
"So it's Brandon?" asked Dylan who looks really mad.
"Yeah, Brandon's the father," replied Kelly.
"Did he take a test?" asked Dylan.
"Yeah," replied Kelly.
"So why did it take you so long to tell me?" asked Dylan who is yelling.
"I didn't know back then. When we got back together, I thought it was yours," replied Kelly.
"But you somehow forgot to mention to me that you were with Brandon at the same time you were with me," said Dylan.
"No, I wasn't. And don't get mad at Brandon," said Kelly.
"I'm NOT mad at Brandon. I'm mad at you. You were cheating on me," said Dylan.
"We were broken up. I was not cheating on you," said Kelly.
"So that makes it all better? What was I? Just the damn babysitter?" asked Dylan.
"No but technically, you weren't much of a father to Sammy," replied Kelly.
"Well, looks like things have a way of working themselves out. You get to be with Brandon and I found out that the son who I feel so guilty for not being around for, turns out to be not even mine," yelled Dylan so the entire neighborhood can hear.
"Give Brandon my regards and for your sake, I hope Brandon will be a better father than me...I'm outta here," added Dylan as he walked away.
Kelly stood there watching Dylan leave. A few of the neighbors took notice.
Kelly walked back to her home. She opens the door to her house and walks back to her room to find that Brandon had already left. She takes her phone out and calls Brandon but it goes straight to voicemail.
"Hey Brandon, it's me. I just told Dylan everything. Anyway, I'm back home. Give me a call when you get this. Bye," said Kelly as she hangs up the phone.
It's dark and we see Dylan walking on the streets. He still has an angry look on his face. A car drives up to him, while honking his horn. Dylan gets frustrated at the car.
"What; what do you want from me?" asked Dylan as he turns around and yells at the driver.
"I just wanna talk," replied Brandon in the car.
Dylan looks at Brandon for a moment with the same disgusted expression he gave Kelly a few moments ago.
"I got nothing to say to you," said Dylan as he continues walking.
"Look D, I know how you feel. I was mad at her too," said Brandon as he continues to drive alongside Dylan.
"What, is that suppose to make me feel better?" asked Dylan.
"That's what I'm trying to do," replied Brandon.
"I don't need your pity," said Dylan.
"Look, she told you because it was the right thing to do," said Brandon.
"Then why didn't she tell me that before?" asked Dylan.
"She was scared...she was scared to be alone," replied Brandon.
"I dunno what's with this town, man. Every time I come back here, I get all pissed and wonder why I ever keep coming back," added Dylan.
"Because you wanted a second chance," said Brandon.
"Well, it looks like I'm not gonna get that chance, am I?" asked Dylan.
"I guess not...but you can still be Sammy's friend," replied Brandon.
"Brandon, if you were Sammy, would you be friends with a guy who only comes to visit when he's got nothing else better to do?" asked Dylan.
"It's not too late to change," replied Brandon.
Dylan stops walking and looks at Brandon. Brandon stops driving, parks the car, and gets out of the car. He walks up to Dylan face to face.
"If you want to hit me, go ahead," said Brandon.
"Nah, I'm not ready yet," said Dylan.
"Ok, then lets get a drink or something. I'll wait," said Brandon.
Brandon and Dylan are at a bar.
"So I'm heading into the water and within 30 seconds, this wave comes from outta nowhere and hits me back into shore," said Dylan.
Brandon chuckles.
"Sounds like you may be getting too old for this, bro," said Brandon.
"Yeah but when the waves are calling me, I just can't help but answer," said Dylan.
"So I gotta ask you this, man. Why did you leave?" asked Brandon.
"If you're asking whether it was because of her, it's not. It was me," replied Dylan.
"So what happened?" asked Brandon.
"Everything was fine until I started getting these offers to travel and help people less fortunate than me," replied Dylan.
"What about Kelly?" asked Brandon.
"Kelly didn't wanna go. Her life was here," replied Dylan.
"So why didn't you stay?" asked Brandon.
"You know I ask myself that question almost every day. I keep telling myself it was the right thing to do," replied Dylan.
"Sounds easy enough," said Brandon.
"Yeah, you say that now...just wait till you realize where your life is going. One minute you're a free man. The next minute you're pushing a stroller down the diaper isle of a supermarket," said Dylan.
"That's not a bad thing," said Brandon.
"No, it's not. Sammy's a good kid. But sooner or later, you can't deny the fact that you want more in your life. And when you realize that, your life and everybody around you is gonna be affected, whether you like it or not," said Dylan.
Brandon doesn't reply.
"You want another beer?" asked Dylan.
"No, I'm good," replied Brandon.
We see Dylan and Brandon leave the bar. Both still seem sober.
"Oh, I forgot to ask you...how was your trip with Brenda?" asked Brandon.
"It was alright. I think she had fun," replied Dylan.
"Anything going on with you two?" asked Brandon.
"No, we're just friends," replied Dylan.
"So, where is she now?" asked Brandon.
"China," replied Dylan.
"China? What are you talking about?" asked Brandon giving Dylan a confused look.
"China. One day she got an urgent call from someone and she told me she had to go immediately to China," replied Dylan.
"Who called her?" asked Brandon.
"I dunno. She just pick up and left," replied Dylan.
"China? That doesn't make any sense," said Brandon.
"Hey man, you know as much as I do. But your sister has always had a mind of her own," said Dylan.
"I guess I'll call her later," said Brandon.
"Do what you gotta do...I gotta go," said Dylan.
"Where are you staying tonight?" asked Brandon.
"Don't worry about me, I'll find a place," replied Dylan.
"You can still stay at Kelly's if you want to," said Brandon.
"No, I think it's best that I stay away from Kelly for a while," said Dylan.
"What about Sammy's party tomorrow? You're still coming, right?" asked Brandon.
"I dunno. I'll think about it," replied Dylan.
"D, why don't you stay at my place tonight," said Brandon.
"And why are you offering?" asked Dylan.
"Because I'm your friend," replied Brandon.
Dylan looks at Brandon.
Brandon opens the door to Kelly's house. He goes and slowly enters Kelly's bedroom. The light is still on but Kelly's asleep on the bed.
Brandon smiles, leans down, and gives her a kiss to wake her up.
"Hey," said Kelly softly.
"Hey," smiled Brandon.
"Where were you? I was worried," asked Kelly.
"With Dylan," replied Brandon.
"Dylan? How did you find him?" asked Kelly surprised.
"When I left, I saw that you two outside so I stayed close," replied Brandon.
"So you've heard everything?" asked Kelly.
"No, but judging from the way Dylan was yelling, I'd say you've told him everything," replied Brandon.
"Ugh, I hate this. I used to be the one who was mad at him. Never really thought how bad it feels when it's the other way around," said Kelly.
"It's ok, Kel," said Brandon giving Kelly a quick kiss on the lips.
"No it's not. I don't want him to do anything crazy over this," said Kelly.
"Everything's fine. We've talked and he calmed down a bit," replied Brandon.
"Thanks. Where is he now?" asked Kelly.
"He's staying at my place," replied Brandon.
"Oh, that's nice of you," said Kelly.
"Yeah well, you're not the only one who's worried about him," smiled Brandon.
"Is he still coming to Sammy's birthday?" asked Kelly.
"I dunno. He said he'll think about it," replied Brandon.
"I hope I did the right thing," said Kelly.
"You did," said Brandon.
"Thank you," said Kelly as she leans closer to Brandon.
Brandon puts his arms around Kelly and pulls her close to him.
"I love you," said Kelly.
"I love you too," said Brandon.
The next day, we see Kelly running around preparing for Sammy's party. Brandon comes in the front door.
"Hey babe," said Brandon.
"Hey, did you get the cake?" asked Kelly.
"Yes, I did. I waited over a half n hour for them to finish it but I got it," replied Brandon.
"Great. Could you put it in the fridge for me?" asked Kelly.
"Sure," replied Brandon as he goes and put the cake in the fridge.
"Then can you wrap the presents?" asked Kelly.
"Ok, where are they?" asked Brandon.
"In the bedroom, under the bed," replied Kelly.
"Ok," said Brandon.
Brandon goes to Kelly's bedroom and takes the presents out from under the bed. He looks at the presents and comes back to the kitchen where Kelly is.
Kelly looks up at Brandon.
"Something wrong?" asked Kelly.
"No. It's just that I see you got Sammy a racing car set," replied Brandon.
"Yeah. He loves toy cars," said Kelly.
"Damn, I wish I knew that," said Brandon.
"Why, what did you get him?" asked Kelly.
"A lego set and some stuffed animals," replied Brandon.
"That's great. He'll love it," said Kelly.
"Yeah, but seeing that this is his first birthday that I'm here for, I think I should get him something more memorable," said Brandon.
"Like what?" asked Kelly.
"That's the problem. I don't know. I wish I knew him better," replied Brandon.
"Brandon, he'll be fine. In fact, I'd bet he won't even remember this," said Kelly.
"I know. It's just that I want to give him something that'll make up for all the years I've been away," said Brandon.
Kelly goes to Brandon.
"You have. Just by being here. And as the years go by, you will learn more about him and he'll do the same," smiled Kelly.
"So does that mean I can put my name on your gift too?" asked Brandon.
Kelly smiles and kisses Brandon.
The front door opens and Silver comes in with Sammy.
"Hey," said Silver.
"Hey," said Kelly as she breaks the kiss.
"Wow...can the party start now?" asked Sammy.
"No honey, we're not ready yet," replied Kelly.
"Can we have pizza and ice cream?" asked Sammy.
"Yes, but a little bit later, ok?" asked Kelly.
Sammy looks down and goes to Brandon.
"Daddy, can we have the party now?" asked Sammy smiling.
"I'm sorry buddy, but like your mom said, we're not ready yet," replied Brandon.
"Please?" asked Sammy.
Brandon looks at Kelly who smiles back at him. Silver is trying not to laugh. Brandon bends down to Sammy's eye level.
"I want to but I don't like it when your mom makes that face," smiled Brandon.
Sammy turns around, looks at Kelly and giggles.
"Sammy, your mom worked very hard to make everything perfect just for you because she loves you. Now, you want your party to be perfect, right?" asked Brandon.
"Yes," replied Sammy.
"So, shouldn't we let your mom finish what she started?" asked Brandon.
"Ok, I can wait," replied Sammy.
"Good. Thank you," said Brandon as he hugs Sammy.
Sammy goes to Kelly.
"I'm sorry, mommy," said Sammy hugging Kelly.
"It's ok. You don't need to be sorry. In fact, if you want, you can help me finish the food," said Kelly.
"Ok," smiled Sammy.
"Ok, go wash your hands," said Kelly.
Sammy runs to the bathroom to wash his hands.
"I gotta hand it to you, Brandon. Good job," said Silver going over to Brandon and giving him a pat on the back.
"Thanks Silver," smiled Brandon.
"And what about you?" asked Brandon to Kelly.
Kelly doesn't respond. Instead she goes over to Brandon and kisses him.
They break.
"Does that answer your question?" asked Kelly smiling.
"Yes...yes it does...but feel free to continue that later," replied Brandon smiling.
"Of course," smiled Kelly.
Sammy runs back from the bathroom.
"Ok, are you ready to help, birthday boy?" asked Kelly.
"Yeah!," replied Sammy.
"Ok, follow me," said Kelly.
Brandon stands there and smiles as he looks at Kelly and Sammy.
An hour goes by and Brandon is on the phone trying to call Dylan.
"Hey D, it's Brandon. The party's gonna start soon...so I was thinking I come over and pick you up. Give me a call when you get this...thanks," said Brandon as he hangs up the phone.
"Any luck?" asked Kelly.
"No. I think I'm just gonna go over there," replied Brandon.
"You sure you wanna do that now? Sammy's getting a little impatient," asked Kelly.
"Better now than later. I just hope he's alright," replied Brandon.
"I thought you said he was ok after you guys talked last night," said Kelly.
"He is but he's still very mad," said Brandon.
Kelly looks at Brandon without saying anything.
"Look, go ahead and start the party without me. I'll be back as soon as possible, ok?" asked Brandon.
"Ok. Be safe," replied Kelly.
"I will," said Brandon giving Kelly a quick kiss on the cheek.
Brandon leaves Kelly's bedroom and Kelly follows him out. They walk past the kitchen.
"Where are you going?" asked Silver.
"I'm gonna check on Dylan," replied Brandon.
"You're not staying for my party?" asked Sammy.
"Of course, I am. I'm going to pick up Dylan, ok...We'll be back very soon, ok?" asked Brandon.
"You promise?" asked Sammy.
"I promise," replied Brandon smiling.
"Happy birthday, Sammy," said Brandon giving Sammy a hug.
"Thank you daddy," replied Sammy.
Brandon arrives at the hotel. He opens the door to his hotel suite. He sees that there is a light coming from the bedroom.
"D?" asked Brandon as he walked into the living room.
Brandon walks to his bedroom to find Dylan looking into some of his boxes.
"Hey D," said Brandon.
"Bran, hey man," said Dylan who is startled by Brandon's appearance.
"What you doing?" asked Brandon.
"Oh, I was taking a look at your photos and articles...sorry man, I didn't mean to go through your stuff," replied Dylan.
"It's cool. How come you didn't pick up your phone?" asked Brandon as he sits next to Dylan on his bed.
"I'm sorry. I just didn't feel like going over there where I'm not wanted," replied Dylan.
"Sammy wants you there...we all do," said Brandon.
"Or is this because you don't want to see Kelly?" asked Brandon.
"It's just always so complicated with her," replied Dylan.
"If it makes you feel any better, my relationship with her isn't perfect either," said Brandon.
"How so?" asked Dylan.
"We've only been dating for a little over two weeks. And she's been calling and checking up on me at work and now she's rushing me to move in with her," replied Brandon.
"Welcome to the club, man. She tried to do the same with me," said Dylan.
"Is that why you left?" asked Brandon.
"It's hard to say. I just felt like I wasn't wanted. So I just decided to go somewhere where I'm needed," replied Dylan.
"Why? Are you thinking about leaving?" asked Dylan.
"The thought has crossed my mind...but no. This is what I wanted," replied Brandon.
"You really love her, don't you?" asked Dylan.
"Yeah, I do," replied Brandon.
"For how long?" asked Dylan.
"What do you mean?" asked Brandon.
"Judging from your large photo collection of Kelly Taylor, I just wanted to know whether or not, you were over her after you left for Washington," replied Dylan.
"I thought I was but it turns out I wasn't," said Brandon.
"Didn't you meet anybody there or on your trips?" asked Dylan.
"Yeah, I met a girl or two but nothing serious," replied Brandon.
"Why not?" asked Dylan.
"I guess I keep comparing them with Kelly...I guess I wanted the same feeling I had when I was with her but didn't want our relationship to end the same way," replied Brandon.
"And I just couldn't find anyone like that," added Brandon.
"So when Kelly and I were going out, did you ever think about coming back and try to be with her again?" asked Dylan.
"I wanted to but I knew she had her life with you and my life was here. She was happy with you," replied Brandon.
Dylan looks at Brandon for a moment.
"Do you wanna hit me now?" asked Brandon.
"I'm thinking about it," replied Dylan.
"Maybe it's a good thing that she never chose between you or me," added Dylan.
"It saved our friendship," said Brandon.
"Yeah, it did man," said Dylan as they hug.
"C'mon, there's a birthday boy who is waiting for us," said Brandon.
"Alright...hold on...I don't wanna forget his present," said Dylan.
"What did you get him?" asked Brandon.
"A remote toy car," replied Dylan.
"Damn," said Brandon.
"Why, what did you get him?" asked Dylan.
"A lego set and some stuffed animals," replied Brandon.
Dylan looks at Brandon with a weird look.
"Well, it's the thought that counts," said Dylan.
"Ugh, be quiet," joked Brandon.
Brandon and Dylan arrived back at Kelly's. Brandon opens the door.
"Hey, look who's back," said Kelly.
"Yes I am and the special guest has arrived," smiled Brandon.
Dylan walks in.
"Dylan," said Sammy as he runs towards him.
Dylan bends down and gives him a hug.
"Hey Sammy. Happy birthday," said Dylan as gives Sammy his gift.
"Thank you," said Sammy.
"You're welcome," smiled Dylan.
Sammy takes his gift and runs back to the kitchen table. Dylan stands back up and sees Kelly coming towards him.
"Hi," said Kelly.
"Hey Kel," said Dylan.
"Are you still mad at me?" asked Kelly.
"Only time will tell," replied Dylan.
Brandon goes over to them.
"Ok, we're ready to sing happy birthday," said Brandon.
"Ok," said Kelly as they head back to the table.
Later that night, Brandon and Kelly are in bed.
"I'm so glad that Sammy loved my present," said Brandon.
"I told you he would," said Kelly.
"Did you have a good time?" asked Kelly.
"Yes, I did...thanks," replied Brandon smiling.
"I should be thanking you," said Kelly.
"Why?" asked Brandon.
"For smoothing things out with Dylan for me," replied Kelly.
"I just didn't want anything bad to happen," said Brandon.
"Thank you," said Kelly as she leans to Brandon.
Brandon puts his arms around her and pulls her close.
"So you were gone for a while," said Kelly.
"Yeah, well, Dylan and I were just catching up on old times," said Brandon.
"Good. I'm glad," said Kelly.
"Hey," said Brandon looking at Kelly.
"What?" asked Kelly.
"I'm glad I'm in love with you...and that I'm here," replied Brandon.
"Well, I'm glad too...and I love you," smiled Kelly leaning in to kiss Brandon.
Brandon leans in and kisses her and pulling her in closer to him.
"Ready for your gift?" asked Brandon.
"You really got me something?" asked Kelly.
"Yes, I did. Close your eyes," said Brandon.
Kelly smiles and closes her eyes.
Brandon reaches from his dresser drawer and pulls out a small jewelry box. He opens it, revealing a gold charm bracelet.
"Ok, open them," said Brandon.
Kelly opens her eyes and sees the charm bracelet.
"Brandon, this...," said Kelly.
"I know it's not much. But this always reminded me of the one you used to wear….that I always love to see on you. It's the one that's also..." said Brandon as he gets interrupted by Kelly.
"...a necklace," said Kelly and Brandon in unison.
"You remember?" asked Brandon.
"Of course, I do. That was one of my favorites too. Thank you. It's beautiful," replied Kelly as she goes and kisses Brandon.
"But not as beautiful as you are," smiled Brandon as he holds Kelly.
Coming Next - Brandon goes to New York without Kelly. Dylan McKay guest stars.
