Chapter 48 - The Wedding - Part 1
Kelly slowly wakes up. Even though she knows she is in her bedroom, she takes a few moments to make sure. With her head still on her pillow, she takes her time as she slowly looks at the space and quietness in the bedroom. She turns around to look at the other side of the bed to see the bed empty. She looks a bit disappointed but smiles as she knows everything is going well as planned. She sees her wedding dress hung by her closet and her smile grows.
She sits up and grabs her phone from her bed. She sees a text from Brandon. She reads it and smiles. She types "I love you, too" and hits send.
She hears a quiet knock on the door.
"Come in," said Kelly.
Silver peeks her head in the door.
"Hey, sorry if I woke you. You said to wake you up at 8," said Silver.
"It's ok. You didn't wake me. Come on in," said Kelly.
Silver, along with Donna and Brenda walk in wearing pajamas. They quickly go by her bed.
"It's your wedding day," said Brenda, Donna, and Silver in unison.
Kelly smile and claps.
"Thanks guys," said Kelly.
"Happy Wedding Day," said Brenda, Donna, and Silver in unison.
"How are you doing?" asked Silver.
"Great," replied Kelly.
"I can tell. You're just smiling and glowing away," said Brenda.
Kelly smiles.
"Ok, let me get dress and I'll make some breakfast," said Kelly.
"Nope. Already taken care of," said Donna.
"Yeah. Bacon, eggs, toast, orange juice, and cereal all waiting for you in the kitchen," replied Brenda.
"Wow. So what's left for me to do?" asked Kelly.
"Get married," replied Brenda.
"I can do that," smiled Kelly.
"Best bridesmaids ever," said Kelly as she leans in for a group hug.
They hug.
We see Brandon at the hotel. He is sitting at a table reading a newspaper.
Dylan comes out of the bathroom wearing a t shirt and pants.
"Good morning," said Brandon.
"Morning," said Dylan who looks tired. His hair is wet and has a towel around his neck. Dylan looks tired. With his hand on his forehead, it may be safe to say that he has a hangover.
"Want some breakfast?" asked Brandon.
"Yeah, sure," replied Dylan.
Brandon gets up and goes to counter. He puts eggs and a bagel on a plate. He brings it to the table in front of Dylan.
Dylan watches as Brandon pours him a glass of orange juice.
"Thanks," said Dylan.
"You're welcome," said Brandon.
Dylan notices Brandon's mood.
"You ate already?" asked Dylan.
"No, I'm having brunch with the folks in an hour. I don't want to spoil my appetite," replied Brandon.
"So, why did you get breakfast?" asked Dylan.
"I got it for you. I didn't know when you'll be up and I thought I'll be gone by then," replied Brandon.
"Alright. Thanks," said Dylan.
"Hey, what are friends for," said Brandon.
Dylan chews on his food as Brandon goes back to his paper.
After a minute of silence, Dylan speaks up.
"Hey man, I don't remember what I said last night but whatever I said or did, I'm sorry. I was drunk," said Dylan.
"Yeah, sure," said Brandon.
Dylan starts to eat the food. Brandon avoids eye contact with Dylan as he continues to read the paper. Dylan notices.
After a while of silence, Dylan gets an angry look on his face.
He puts his hands on the table.
"Brandon, I know you're angry with me. But I am sorry," said Dylan.
"I'm not angry with you. We're best friends," said Brandon.
"Then why are you acting like this?" asked Dylan.
"Like what?" asked Brandon.
"Like this….silent. The Brandon Walsh that I know is not this quiet, especially on his wedding day," replied Dylan loudly.
"Let's just say, I've gotten used to you overreacting," said Brandon.
"Could you at least tell me what I said last night that pissed you off?" asked Dylan.
"What? You didn't say anything that pissed me off," replied Brandon.
Dylan glares at Brandon as he takes another bite of his bagel.
Brandon starts to fold up his newspaper.
"I did however, wish I could've gotten more sleep…and possibly not see one of my best friends throwing beer bottles at a parking lot, and me having to bail him out of jail," said Brandon with an angry look at Dylan.
Dylan takes a moment to try to remember his actions the night before.
Dylan reaches into his pocket and pulls out some money. He puts it on the table and slides it over to Brandon. Brandon still looks at Dylan with a mean look.
"This isn't about the money," said Brandon.
"Then what is it, Brandon?" asked Dylan impatiently.
"I need to know that we're ok," added Dylan.
"Are you ok this wedding?" asked Brandon.
"Yes. I wouldn't be here if I wasn't," replied Dylan.
Brandon looks at him not knowing what to say.
Suddenly, we hear a knock on the door.
"Brandon?" asked Dylan waiting for a reply.
"Who is it?" asked Brandon.
"Your loyal servants," replied a happy voice from outside.
He goes to the door as Dylan watches him.
Brandon opens the door and sees Steve and David.
Steve makes a royal fanfare noise.
"We here to serve, sire!" joked Steve.
"Hey guys. C'mon in," said Brandon.
"Thanks," said Steve.
"Hey Dylan," said Steve and David.
"Hey guys," said Dylan.
"Nice room you got here," said David.
"Only for the best for the groom," said Dylan.
Brandon is still glaring at Dylan.
Steve looks at the table and sees food on the table.
"You guys ate already?" asked Steve.
"He did, I haven't," replied Brandon.
"Well then, lets all go to the Pit," said Steve.
"Can't. I'm having brunch with my Brenda and my parents. See you guys later," said Brandon.
"Nat's expecting us at the Peach Pit to have breakfast," replied Steve.
"Sorry; we're having a special Walsh family brunch," replied Brandon.
"Alright. Correct me if I'm wrong here but I thought I was in charge of your schedule," said Steve.
"Well Stevey, what makes you in charge?" asked Brandon.
"I'm the best man. I am the guy who makes this day go smoothly without any problems," replied Steve.
"Who's more important than me?" asked Steve.
"Ummm...I think that'll be the groom, Steve," replied David looking at Brandon.
"Yeah, but I'm the guy who has cannot only make his wedding the best but his wedding night the best," said Steve with a seductive smile.
"Steve, no offense, but I think I'll be fine without your so-called tips. Now, if you guys will excuse me, I have to go brunch with my family," said Brandon heading for the door.
"Bran, when are you gonna be done?" asked Steve.
"I'll call you," replied Brandon who is out the door.
Steve has a disappointing look on his face.
Kelly is in the bathroom. She is wearing a t-shirt and her sweatpants.
She stands at the sink looking at the mirror with an odd look. As she stands there in silence, she wipes her eyes a bit, getting rid of a teardrop. She goes for the small paperbag on the counter.
"Kelly?" asked someone from outside.
"I'm in the bathroom," replied Kelly looking alerted.
Brenda knocks on the outside while opening the door slowly.
Kelly sees Brenda gives her a weak smile.
"Hey, you ok?" asked Brenda.
"Yeah, what's up?" asked Kelly.
"You ready for your makeup?" asked Brenda.
"Yeah, I just need a minute. I'll be right out," replied Kelly.
"Ok," said Brenda who looks concerned.
"You sure you're ok?" asked Brenda.
"Yeah, I'm just gathering my thoughts. That's all," replied Kelly.
"Ok. Take your time," said Brenda.
'Thanks," said Kelly.
Brenda walks and closes the door behind her.
Donna walks to Brenda.
"Is Kelly in there?" asked Donna.
"Yeah, she just needs a minute," replied Brenda.
"Ok," said Donna as she turns around and walks away.
Brenda turns and is about to knock on the bathroom door again but decides not to.
She looks down and walks away.
Outside of a restaurant, Brandon is sitting alone. He looks at his watch at the time.
He looks around and stops when he sees someone walking towards him. It's Brenda.
Brandon gets up as Brenda approaches.
"Hey," said Brenda who goes and hugs Brandon.
"Hey," said Brandon smiles as he hugs her.
"Where's mom and dad?" asked Brenda.
"They're on their way from the hotel," replied Brandon.
They sit down.
They look at each other.
Brenda notices Brandon has his mind elsewhere.
"Nervous?" asked Brenda smiling.
"Now Bren, why would I be nervous?" asked Brandon smiling.
"You're right. Can't fool you," replied Brenda.
"How's Kelly?" asked Brandon.
"Good. She has the same smile on her face as you do," replied Brenda.
"Good to know," replied Brandon smiling.
"I never doubted you. I'd figured I'd asked since you look like you were worried about something before," said Brenda.
"It's nothing. I'm just a little tired. I probably just didn't get enough sleep last night," asked Brandon.
"Wild night, huh?" asked Brenda.
"Eh...not exactly...just spending some quality time with Dylan," replied Brandon who tries not to reveal to Brenda what happened to Dylan the night before.
"How is Dylan?" asked Brenda.
"He's doing ok," replied Brandon.
"I thought you two had plans on going to the wedding together," asked Brandon.
"We did. But I had to take care of Abby. He had other plans...so we just decided to see each other there," said Brenda.
"Plus, we didn't want people to get the wrong idea by coming to the wedding together," added Brenda.
"What's wrong with that?" asked Brandon.
"Nothing. We just didn't want to take away from you and Kelly's big day," replied Brenda.
"Ok. I guess that's a valid excuse," said Brandon joking.
Brenda looks behind Brandon and sees Jim and Cindy coming their way.
"Well, don't look now, but mother and father are here," said Brenda in a semi-English accent.
Brandon turns around. He and Brenda stand up.
Jim and Cindy hug Brandon and Brenda.
"Where's Abigail?" asked Cindy.
"Abby is spending some quality time with Donna and Ruby," replied Brenda.
"Are you sure it's a good idea for the kids to be at Kelly's while you girls are so busy?" asked Cindy.
"I mean, we could watch them," added Cindy.
"Mother, it's fine. We got everything under control. In fact, if it makes you feel any better, you can come by and see for yourself," said Brenda.
"Well, I'll be happy to see everybody...that is if Kelly doesn't mind," said Cindy.
"I'm sure she doesn't," said Brenda.
Brandon stays silent and looks at them. Jim notices.
"Cindy, why don't we change the subject and focus on the fact that our son is finally getting married," said Jim.
"Of course," smiled Cindy.
"Sorry. Congratulations, Brandon" said Cindy.
"It's ok guys. Talk amongst yourselves. I'm getting too much attention," joked Brandon.
"Oh, you're just being modest. C'mon; admit it, you love getting all the attention," said Brenda.
"Well, I'm not going to say that I'm not loving it but at times, I just can't wait for this day to be over," said Brandon.
"Big night planned, huh?" asked Brenda with a sneaky smile.
Jim and Cindy get the picture and have a small embarrassed look on their faces.
"Kids and their hormones these days," joked Brandon.
They all laugh.
Back at the house, we see Kelly in the bathroom. She stands in front of the sink and looks at the mirror. She turns on the sink and splashes some water to her face with her hands. She gets her face towel and dries off.
She walks out of the bathroom. In the hallway, she sees a quiet and lonely Sammy in his pajamas wander into the guest room. He walks in and sees Ruby and Abby asleep. He walks towards them but doesn't get too close. He stops and looks around the room.
Kelly goes the room.
"Sammy," said Kelly quietly to not wake up the babies.
Sammy turns around quickly and sees Kelly. Kelly smiles and goes to him.
"Honey, what are you doing here?" asked Kelly whispering.
Sammy quickly turns around looking a little scared.
"I dunno. I was bored," replied Sammy.
"I'm sorry;" added Sammy.
Kelly goes Sammy a weak smile.
"It's ok. Thanks for checking on your cousins," said Kelly as she takes a knee.
She hugs Sammy.
They walk out of the guest room and into Sammy's bedroom.
"See you later, honey," said Kelly about to walk out.
"Bye," said Sammy in a sad voice.
Kelly notices Sammy's mood as she is about to walk out of the room. She stops and sees Sammy leaning on his bed and looking down.
Kelly goes to Sammy.
"Honey, what's wrong?" asked Kelly.
"I dunno," replied Sammy.
Kelly sits next to Sammy on his bed. She picks him up and puts him on her lap.
"Ok; you tell mommy's what's bothering you," said Kelly holding Sammy.
"You and dad are leaving," said Sammy.
"Yeah, only for a few days; remember when we talked about this?" asked Kelly.
"Yeah," replied Sammy sadly.
"What's the matter? You get to spend some quality time with Aunt Brenda and Cousin Abby and your grandparents," said Kelly.
"I know," said Sammy sadly.
"You don't want to?" asked Kelly.
"No, I want to. I'll miss you," replied Sammy hugging Kelly.
"Honey, we'll miss you too. And I promise, we'll call you every day," replied Kelly.
"Promise?" asked Sammy.
"Yes, I promise," replied Kelly.
"What about dad?" asked Sammy.
"So will dad. But what I want to know which one of us are you going to miss more?" asked Kelly laughing.
"Mmmm...what are you going to bring me?" asked Sammy smiling.
"Oh, it's like that, huh?" asked Kelly joking.
Kelly starts to tickle Sammy.
Sammy starts to laugh uncontrollably. Kelly laughs along as well.
Kelly stops tickling Sammy and hugs him tightly.
"I love you, mommy," said Sammy.
"I love you too, Sammy," said Kelly.
Donna sees them together. She quietly knocks on the door to get their attention. Kelly and Sammy turn and look at Donna. Donna smiles.
"Hi; sorry to interrupt. We're ready whenever you are," said Donna.
"Ok; be right there," said Kelly.
"Take your time," said Donna who walks away.
Kelly gives Sammy a kiss on the cheek and gets him off her lap.
"Where are you going?" asked Sammy.
"Aunt Donna is going to make mommy look beautiful for daddy," replied Kelly.
"You already look beautiful," said Sammy.
Kelly gets teary.
She goes and hugs Sammy again.
"Thank you. That means so much coming from you," said Kelly.
"In fact, you are the most beautifulest girl in the world," said Sammy.
"Really?" asked Kelly.
"Really," replied Sammy.
"You know, Daddy said the same thing to me," said Kelly.
"Really?" asked Sammy.
"Yeah," replied Kelly.
"You see; then it's true," said Sammy.
"So how come Aunt Donna can't see that?" asked Kelly.
"I dunno," replied Sammy as he shrugs his shoulders.
"I guess only the people who love me the most know that," said Kelly.
"I guess so," said Sammy.
"Yeah; I'm gonna tell Aunt Donna that I don't need a makeover. I'm already the most beautifuest girl in the world...and if she can't see that, then it's her loss," said Kelly.
"Yeah!" said Sammy.
"Ok, but you may need to come with me...because she may not believe me," smiled Kelly joking.
"Ok," said Sammy.
"Come here, my special little guy," said Kelly as he picks up Sammy.
They both walk out of the room.
Brandon is on his cellphone as he walks back to the hotel.
"Yeah Steve. Let me grab McKay and we'll meet you there," said Brandon.
"Ok, bye," said Brandon.
He hangs up the phone.
He opens the door to find nobody in the room.
"Dylan?" asked Brandon as he walks around.
"Anybody here? Hello?" asked Brandon as he goes into the bedroom.
He gets his cellphone out of his pocket and makes a call.
Brandon gets a frustrated look as it goes to voicemail.
"Dylan, if you're there, call me back," said Brandon.
He puts his cellphone back into his pocket.
He looks around, not knowing what he should do. Uncertain, he gets his cellphone out of his pocket and dials a number.
"Hey, it's me," said Brandon.
A while later, Brandon slowly drives into a cemetery. With directions in hand, he looks around. He sees Dylan from afar and slows down. He parks his car by the road. Dylan sees Brandon but doesn't acknowledge him.
Brandon sees Dylan in front of a tombstone. As looks at Dylan, he suddenly has a feeling that he should be there; not only because it's his wedding day but that his friend may also want to be alone. Nevertheless, Brandon gets out of the car and walks towards Dylan.
Dylan hears Brandon walking towards him but still doesn't say anything.
Brandon does not say anything. Instead he stands by Dylan as they stare at the tombstone read "Antoni Marchette."
"You know, I've known where she is for years. But this is the first time I've actually came up here to see her," said Dylan.
"Why today?" asked Brandon.
"I don't know. I guess I wasn't feeling too happy this morning and I felt like should be," replied Dylan as he looks at Brandon.
"Thanks...I guess," said Brandon kind of confused.
"So how did you find me?" asked Dylan.
Brandon looks hesitant of answering Dylan.
"Kelly kinda of..." replied Brandon trying not to let him know.
Dylan gives Brandon a little nod.
"Look man, she was just concern. We both were," explained Brandon.
"Don't worry about it. I'm not mad," said Dylan.
"So what are you now?" asked Brandon.
"I dunno. But I'm glad I got to see her," replied Dylan.
"That's good," said Brandon.
"It's strange sometimes how I always had doubts about Brenda and Kelly, I never had with her," said Dylan.
"We were both spontaneous. We had no idea what our future would hold and we loved not knowing that. As long as we were together, we knew were gonna be ok," added Dylan.
"That's a good thing. Sorry man," said Brandon looking a little uncomfortable.
"It's ok. Maybe it wasn't meant to be. After she died, I just felt confused again. I took off, wander from place to place. I found your sister in London, thinking it was some kind of sign that my life was gonna be good again," said Dylan.
"And then what?" asked Brandon.
"I just got tired of London and wanted to get away. I felt that Brenda was trying to close me in. That's why I came back to L.A. Then I thought me and Kelly getting back together was a sign that I can turn my life around. Then I felt the same thing about her trying to close me in. So I left again...and now, all I'm thinking is now my life would've been different she was still in it," said Dylan.
"I know I've hurt so many people along the way including you and Kelly. If you didn't know already, you don't need to take that crap from me. You don't need to bail me out of situations, I get myself into. You don't need to talk to me as if everything in my life is gonna be alright. In fact, you don't need to be my friend. And I don't blame you if you don't want to," added Dylan.
"Dylan, excuse me if I sound a little impatient but when have you ever felt that we weren't our friend? If you haven't realized it already, we're not trying to shut you out here. We're here for you. We're your family too. And you're right. I don't need to be your friend. I've tried everything to get you to tell me how you feel and for me to make things right. In times, I even felt guilty of being with Kelly knowing whatever you two may still felt about each other. But it's getting to the point where I'm tired of this. So you tell me once and for all, what is that you want from me," said Brandon.
Dylan looks at Brandon with a blank stare as he soaks in everything that Brandon just said.
"I want to see my best friends get married," said Dylan.
"You mean that?" asked Brandon.
"Yeah, I do," replied Dylan.
"I didn't mean to run off like that without telling you...again," said Dylan.
"Eh, it's alright. It makes things more exciting," said Brandon.
Dylan chuckles a little.
"Look at it this way, at least it's the not the groom who's running away," said Dylan looking at Brandon.
"No chance of that," smiled Brandon.
"Good. I just didn't think you should be in a place like this on your wedding day," added Dylan.
"Well, I can't have a wedding without a best man," said Brandon.
"You still want me to be your best man?" asked Dylan.
"Eh, If you don't mind sharing the job with Steve Sanders," replied Brandon with a smile on his face.
"I don't mind at all," smiled Dylan.
Brandon smiles. They hug.
They walked to the car. They both get in and drive away.
Brandon and Dylan arrive back at the hotel. They walk into the ballroom and see the setup. We see an elaborate setup of lilies at each table and white table cloths. David is setting up the sound system on the stage.
"Wow, now this is a setup," said Brandon.
"You're telling me," said Dylan.
They see Steve walking towards them.
"Well, it's about time. Where have you been?" asked Steve.
"Had to spend some quality time with McKay," replied Brandon.
"Ok, then. Well, what do you think?" asked Steve.
"Looks great," replied Brandon.
"Of course. Nothing but the best for my best friend's big day," smiled Steve.
Brandon smiles and they hug.
"Thanks Steve...but I don't recall you ever having...such a decorate touch," said Brandon.
"What are you saying? That I didn't do this?" asked Steve.
Brandon and Dylan turn and look at each other; then back at Steve with a weird look.
"Ok ok, the ladies did most of the work," said Steve.
"Steve, I was only joking. Come here you guys," said Brandon who pulls Dylan and Steve together. The three shares a big group hug.
"I'm so happy you guys are here," said Brandon.
"What a reunion," said Steve.
"Dad," said Sammy who is wearing a dress shirt runs to him.
"Hi Sammy," smiled Brandon who picks him up and hugs him tightly.
"I miss you," said Sammy.
"I miss you too, buddy. How is your day going so far?" asked Brandon.
"Good," replied Sammy.
"Are you excited?" asked Brandon.
Sammy nods.
"How's mom?" asked Brandon.
"She looks pretty," replied Sammy.
"Great," said Brandon.
"She's wearing makeup. Of course, I told her she don't need the makeup to be pretty," said Sammy.
"I have to agree with you, pal. Mom is beautiful with or without makeup," said Brandon.
Donna and Silver walks towards them.
"Brandon, what are you doing here?" asked Silver.
"I thought I had an appointment to get married here," replied Brandon joking.
"Yeah but you're supposed to be upstairs waiting for us give you the ok to come downstairs," said Silver.
"Well, I thought me the groom and all, I would get a say in the setup for my own party," said Brandon.
"Yeah but Kelly's here too. You know it's bad luck to see the bride before the wedding," said Donna.
"Guys, that's just a stupid superstition," said Brandon.
"Sammy, don't you want me to stay?" asked Brandon looking at Sammy.
Everyone looks at Sammy as he is hesitant to answer.
Sammy looks at Silver who shakes her head no to him.
"No, you have to go because mommy isn't ready for you yet," replied Sammy.
"Guys, you're manipulating a 5 year old against his own father? That's cruel," said Brandon joking.
"Brandon, we're serious. Dylan, Steve; please remove the groom out of the room until we're ready," said Silver.
"C'mon guys. I just wanted to take a quick look...and say hi to David," said Brandon.
"No more excuses, Brandon. Leave on your own or be escorted out," said Silver.
Donna gives a look to Steve signaling him to escort Brandon out.
Steve stands between Brandon and Silver.
"I'm sorry bro, but you must go now," said Steve in a serious manner.
"Fine. I'll go...but I'll be back," said Brandon with a joking manner.
Steve and Brandon start to walk out of the room.
"Guys, is it ok if I see Kelly for just a moment?" asked Dylan.
"Sure; right this way," replied Donna.
Dylan and Donna start to walk away. Sammy follows them.
Brandon turns around.
"Hey, what gives? How come he gets to see her?" asked Brandon.
"Because he's not the groom," replied Silver smiling.
Dylan smiles too.
"Ok McKay, you won this round. But remember, she's mine!" joked Brandon.
"I heard you loud and clear, man," said Dylan laughing.
Steve puts his arm around Brandon as they walk out of the ballroom.
Before he reaches the door, Dylan hears Kelly and Brenda's voice in the room.
At the door, he quietly peeks inside for a quick look.
He smiles as he admires Brenda and Kelly from afar.
Brenda and Kelly don't notice Dylan at first.
"I think it would cute if we did this," said Brenda who pulls Kelly's hair up.
Kelly laughs.
"Then you will have to answer to Brandon," laughed Kelly.
Brenda laughs along.
"Ok, even though this is for a guy, I'll leave your hair alone," joked Brenda.
"Remember when I tried to help turn you into a blonde?" asked Kelly.
"Yes. I call this payback," joked Brenda.
"No Brenda, anything but that," joked Kelly laughing.
"I'm sorry; please don't ruin my hair," added Kelly laughing.
Brenda laughs and notices Dylan by the door.
"Ok, looks like you're safe for the time being," said Brenda.
"Huh?" asked Kelly confused.
"Looks like you have a visitor," replied Brenda who smiles at Dylan.
Dylan smiles back.
Kelly sees Dylan from the mirror and turns around.
"Dylan!" said Kelly.
"Hey Kel. Hey Bren," said Dylan who goes to them.
Dylan hugs Brenda.
"How are you, stranger?" asked Kelly who hugs Dylan.
"I'm good. Sorry to interrupt you two," said Dylan.
"Oh, it's ok. We always have time for you," said Kelly.
"You look beautiful," replied Dylan.
"Thanks," said Kelly.
"Kelly, I'll right back," said Brenda.
"Ok," said Kelly.
Brenda walks away.
"So how's Brandon?" asked Kelly.
"He's good," replied Dylan.
"How about you?" asked Dylan.
"I'm ok. I'm just trying to keep my makeup intact. But every time Brenda and I reminisce about old times, it makes me cry or laugh," replied Kelly smiling.
"Speaking of old times, I know you did some remising of your own today. I'm sorry I told Brandon. I was just worried about you," said Kelly.
"It's ok, Kel. I just thought it was time for me to go see her again," said Dylan.
"How do you feel afterwards?" asked Kelly.
"A little easier to let go," replied Dylan.
"Is that what you want?" asked Kelly.
"I'm still thinking about what I want," replied Dylan.
"Well, I'm just glad you're back safe and sound," said Kelly who hugs Dylan tightly.
Dylan closes his eyes and he smiles and hugs Kelly.
To be continued...
