Chapter 49 - The Wedding - Part 2
Brandon and Steve are back in the hotel room.
They are standing in front of the mirror.
"Do you we look good or what?" asked Steve.
"Yeah but what's with all the gel?" asked Brandon.
"I'm not sure if you've realized it, Brandon...but we're not twenty anymore. My hair isn't what it used to be," replied Steve.
"Well not now; but it may help if I do this," said Brandon who goes and touch Steve's hair and tries to mess it up.
"Hey; that took me over an hour to get it just right," said Steve who blocks Brandon from messing up his hair.
"Steve, I was just kidding. I wasn't going to ruin your hair," said Brandon smiling.
Steve smiles at Brandon.
"You look great," said Brandon.
"It's good to see that you're in a much better mood than the last time we tried this," said Steve.
"Yeah, it's taking me almost twelve years for me and Kelly to try this again. I better be in a better mood," smiled Brandon.
"I'm sure Kelly feels the same way," said Steve.
"That's what I'm shooting for," said Brandon.
"You know Brandon, I must say that I was worried about today," said Steve.
"Don't worry Steve. You're doing a great job as my best man...wait I take that back...co-best man," smiled Brandon.
"Not that. I can't help but remember the last time we were here...and...," said Steve.
Brandon turns from looking at the mirror to looking at Steve with a weird look.
"Well you know...," said Steve as he starts to distance himself from Brandon.
"Steve...," said Brandon.
"No, please let me finish," said Steve.
Brandon stops talking.
"I can't help but feel like if we didn't have our talk, you and Kelly would've gotten married and you wouldn't have to wait this long to realize your feelings for each other," said Steve who looks at Brandon, then down with a guilty look.
Brandon walks closer towards Steve.
"So let me get this straight. You're saying if you hadn't put all those thoughts in my head, Kelly and I could be celebrating our 10 year wedding anniversary as oppose to just getting married?" asked Brandon giving Steve a bad look.
"I'm really sorry, Brandon," said Steve.
"I won't be mad if you don't want me to be your best man anymore," said Brandon.
"Don't be sorry. Just be thankful," added Brandon.
"Thankful?" asked Steve confused.
"Yeah. I am thankful that Kelly and I got back together. I am thankful that Kelly and I are getting another chance to get married again. And last but not least, I am thankful everyone is here...especially you," replied Brandon.
Steve looks up confused.
"Steve, I was just kidding. You were not responsible for our breakup," said Brandon.
"Really?" asked Steve.
"Really. If anything, you were the one who help persuade me to move back to L.A. and pursued Kelly again," replied Brandon.
"So, don't be sorry. Just be thankful," added Brandon.
"I am. I like to think of this to be my redemption. I love you both," said Steve.
"Thanks Steve. We love you too," said Brandon.
Brandon leans in and they hug.
Kelly is wearing her wedding dress in her makeup room. She is looking at the mirror. Her dad, Bill Taylor is there.
Silver walks in. She smiles when she sees Kelly in her dress.
"Hey," said Kelly.
"Hey Kel...you look so beautiful," said Silver who starts to tear up.
"Oh you," said Kelly who gives Silver a hug.
"Honey, I'll be outside," said Bill.
"Ok," said Kelly.
Bill walks away.
"How's the crowd?" asked Kelly.
"Relentless; getting a little impatient," replied Silver.
"Ok," said Kelly.
"But don't worry about them. I want to give you something," said Silver.
"What?" asked Kelly.
Silver takes a seat next to Kelly. Kelly sits down.
Silver goes to her bag and takes out a jewelry box. She gives it to Kelly.
Taking the box from Silver, Kelly doesn't know whether to give Silver a confused or surprised look.
"What's this?" asked Kelly opening it revealing a shiny antique necklace.
"This is beautiful," said Kelly as it shimmers in the light.
"It was mom's," said Silver.
Kelly looks up at Silver and suddenly recalls something.
She smiles as tears form in her eyes. Silver notices.
"Kel, you're crying. Oh, this is my fault; now it's going to ruin your makeup," said Silver.
"It's ok," said Kelly.
"I thought I had seen this before. When did she give this to you?" asked Kelly.
"I dunno...eight or nine," replied Silver.
"You're letting me borrow it?" asked Kelly.
"No, I'm giving it to you," replied Silver.
"Why? Mom gave this to you," said Kelly.
"Only because you and mom weren't talking. This was really meant for you," said Silver.
Kelly looks guilty.
"I guess we lost a lot of time being angry at each other. I wish she was here," said Kelly.
"Me too. She was hoping for chance to give you that. Now she can," said Silver.
"Thank you," said Kelly who leans in to hug Silver.
They smile as they hug. They break.
"I remember when Brandon and I first got engaged, mom was so excited for us. She even gave me a locket that belonged to Grandma and Grandpa, hoping that it would make our wedding more special," said Kelly.
"Kel, you don't have go there," said Silver stopping Kelly.
"No, it's ok. It was a long time ago. I'm no longer in that space. I wanted to marry Brandon, just not then. We felt rushed as if we were trying to solve a problem by getting married," said Kelly.
"Kel?" asked Silver who is getting worried.
"Marriage should be special. It takes years of endless commitment and understanding. Sometimes I hate myself for having any doubts," said Kelly not answering Silver.
"Kelly?" asked Silver who is getting worried.
"Yeah?" asked Kelly.
"Don't second think this. You're doing the right thing by marrying Brandon," replied Silver.
"I know I am. But it was mom who thought by giving me the locket ruined our wedding. I kept telling her that it wasn't because of that. She said she was ok with it but I had a feeling that she wasn't," said Kelly.
"I wish she can see you now, all pretty and happy in your wedding dress," smiled Silver.
"She is," smiled Kelly.
Silver smiles as well.
"I love you," said Kelly.
"I love you too," said Silver.
Kelly gets a little teary. They hug.
Brenda and Donna walk in.
"Hey guys...sorry to interrupt but how's it going?" asked Donna.
Kelly breaks the hug with Silver. She wipes the few tears away from her face and smiles at Donna and Brenda.
"We're ready," smiled Kelly.
"Good," said Brenda.
Kelly stands up and the girls help Kelly with her gown as they make their way to the door.
At the wedding venue, the guests are talking among themselves as they wait for the ceremony to begin. Jim and Cindy are in the front row. Jim is holding Abigail. They are talking with Nat. Andrea, Val, Clare, Former Chancellor Arnold, Noah, Felice, Mel, Muntz, Willie, Mrs. Teasley, Gil Meyers, Annie, Harry, and Debbie are also in the audience. Felice is holding Ruby.
The minister gets in place followed by Brandon who goes to his spot.
The crowd notices and begins to quiet down. Nat goes to his seat behind Jim and Cindy.
A violinist and cellist start to play classical music softly as Steve and Janet walks in, followed by Dylan and Brenda, David and Donna, and Silver and Dixon.
Steve, Dylan, and David go and stand next to Brandon. Janet, Brenda, and Donna go and stand next to Kelly. Dixon takes a seat next to Andrea.
Madeline walks in. As the flower girl, she spreads daisies down the aisle. Everybody smiles as they admire her adorableness. She reaches the end and smiles at Brandon before taking her seat. Brandon smiles back at her.
Sammy walks in holding a white pillow with rings on top. He slowly makes his way up the isle catching everybody's smiles. He smiles to his dad and hands the pillow to Steve. Sammy then takes a seat next to Jim and Cindy. Cindy whispers into Sammy's ear "You did great." Sammy smiles at Cindy. Cindy holds Sammy close for a moment.
The violinist and cellist change their sheet music. They start to play "Here Comes the Bride" and everybody stands up.
Kelly accompanied by Bill makes their way down the aisle.
As the music plays, Brandon and Kelly look at each other. They haven't seen each other all day. While they miss each other, they knew it only made this moment more special. It only takes a minute for the bride to make her way down the aisle. But twenty years of memories and emotions made this minute last forever. As they made their way towards each other, they see no one else but each other. They can't help but think about what happened the last time they were here. They didn't make it down the aisle last time. But this is a different time. This time they have a different reason for getting married. The reason was not just they were in love with each other but because they both believed this is the right time. So did their guests who showed up at this wedding. Everybody in the audience had long moved on from their days at Beverly Hills. But they came back for this special occasion because they believed in this couple. They believed their love for each other is real.
Kelly and Bill reached the end of the isle as they face Brandon and the minister. Bill gives Kelly a kiss on the cheek and smiles at Brandon.
Brandon and Kelly face the minister. The bridesmaids and groomsmen also face the minister.
The audience sits down.
"Dearly Beloved, we are gathered here today in the presence of these witnesses, to join Brandon and Kelly in holy matrimony, which is commended to be honorable among all men; and therefore is not by any to be entered into unadvisedly or lightly, but reverently, discreetly, advisedly and solemnly," said the minister.
"Into this holy estate these two persons present now come to be joined. If any person can show just cause why they may not be joined together, let them speak now or forever hold their peace," added the minister.
The crowd is silent as they continue to look on.
"And now, Brandon and Kelly who have chosen to express their commitment in vows they themselves have written," said the minister.
Brandon and Kelly turn and look at each other.
"Kelly, I didn't know how to really care for someone until I met you. We started out as friends. And through the years, we became more than friends. As a friend, I learned how to care for you. As my soul mate, I learned how to love you. I have never met anyone who knows my feelings, my emotions, and me better than you can. Because of you, I am a better person, a better father, and a better mate. With this marriage, I want to give you my friendship, my love, and my all. But I can't...because you already have all of those." said Brandon.
Kelly smiles.
"So if you would accept, all I can offer is my promise; a promise that I think of every time I look at you and think of you. I promise to love you and cherish you for as long as I live," said Brandon.
Kelly gets a little teary and smiles.
"Brandon, what I love most about you is that you allow me to be myself. You let me into your life when I was vulnerable. The more I got to know you, the more I learned about myself. Through everything, you loved me for who I am, even the weaknesses in me. You made me stronger as a person. You gave me a reason not to be fragile. You gave me a reason to smile and to look forward. I am so thankful of what we have and the person you've have helped me become," said Kelly.
"Brandon, do you take Kelly to be your lawful wedded wife in sickness and in health, for richer or poorer, for better for worse, and forsaking all others, keep yourself only unto her/him, for so long as you both shall live?' asked the minister.
"I do," replied Brandon.
Kelly smiles.
"Kelly, do you take Brandon to be your lawful wedded husband in sickness and in health, for richer or poorer, for better for worse, and forsaking all others, keep yourself only unto her/him, for so long as you both shall live?' asked the minister.
"I do," replied Kelly.
Steve hands a ring to Brandon. Dylan hands a ring to Kelly.
"Brandon, please repeat after me. With this ring, I give you my promise to honor you...," said the minster.
"With this ring, I give you my promise to honor you...," said Brandon.
"To be faithful to you," said the minister.
"To be faithful to you," repeated Brandon.
"And to share my love and my life with you," said the minister.
"And to share my love and my life with you," repeated Brandon.
"In all ways, always," said the minster.
"In all ways, always," repeated Brandon.
Brandon takes Kelly's hand and slides the ring on her finger.
"Kelly, please repeat after me. With this ring, I give you my promise to honor you...," said the minster.
"With this ring, I give you my promise to honor you...," repeated Kelly.
"To be faithful to you," said the minister.
"To be faithful to you," repeated Kelly.
"And to share my love and my life with you," said the minister.
"And to share my love and my life with you," repeated Kelly.
"In all ways, always," said the minster.
"In all ways, always," repeated Kelly.
Kelly takes Brandon's hand and slides the ring on his finger.
"By the authority vested in me by the State of California, I now pronounce you husband and wife. You May Kiss the Bride!" said the minister.
Brandon and Kelly lean in and kiss. Kelly puts her arms around Brandon and pulls him in for a stronger kiss.
Everybody cheers and claps.
They slowly break the kiss still smiling at each other. They turn around and face everybody and smiles.
Surrounding by clapping hands, they walk down the aisle hand in hand. The groomsmen and bridesmaids follow.
Later at the dining hall, we see a room full of people. They are all talking amongst themselves.
David and Donna are standing next to the sound equipment. They both have microphones in hand.
"Ready?" asked David to Donna.
"Yeah" replied Donna smiling.
"Excuse me. May I please have your attention?" asked David addressing everybody.
Everybody in the crowd turns and looks at David and Donna.
"Thank you," replied David.
"Hi, I'm Donna," said Donna.
"And I'm David," said David.
"Now, David and I aren't just the groomsman and bridesmaid. No no no. We're much more than that. Not only are we best friends of the bride and groom; we are also...," said Donna.
"Your deejays and hosts for the evening," said David.
"That's right. David and Donna coming at ya going strong," said David and Donna in unison reliving their days from West Beverly High.
The crowd cheers and claps.
"Living proof that two is definitely better than one," said David.
The crowd cheers again.
"Thank you...thank you...thank you," said David who is taking in all the praise.
"David, that's enough," said Donna.
"What?" asked David.
"This is not our moment," replied Donna.
"It's not? Then who's moment is this?" asked David.
"The bride and groom's?" asked Donna giving David an obvious look.
"Oh, you're right...well should we bring them out then?" asked David to the crowd.
Everybody cheers in agreement.
"Ok, give it up for the newly Mr. and Mrs. Brandon Walsh," said Donna.
Brandon and Kelly walk in holding hands. Everybody cheers and claps.
Brandon and Kelly walk to the center and wave at everybody before going to their seats.
Once at their seats, people started to clink their utensils against their glasses signaling a kiss from the couple.
Brandon and Kelly turn, look at each other, and kiss.
They break the kiss and smile at the crowd.
"Now, I know you two just sat down, but it's time for you both to get on the dance floor and have your first dance as husband and wife," said David.
Brandon and Kelly get up and walk to the dance floor. Brandon then walks over to David asking his microphone. David hands him his microphone.
"Kel, you were the most popular girl in school and I was just the new kid. You asked me to a dance. You could've asked anybody in the school but you asked me. And to be honest, to this day, I'm still not a good dancer," said Brandon.
Kelly smiles and chuckles. Brandon smiles. Everybody laughs at Brandon's joke.
"And while I didn't realize it at the time, being at the dance with you was one of my favorite memorable moments in my life. Because every girl who wanted to dance with me after that, I couldn't because I knew I can only dance with you," said Brandon.
Kelly reaches her hands out towards Brandon wanting him on the dance floor with her.
Brandon goes to Kelly.
The lights dim and the music start to play. They start to hold each other and dance.
We see Jim and Cindy smile at each other as they look at the happy couple dancing.
David looks at Brandon and Kelly dancing. Donna grabs his hand. He smiles back at her.
Later into the evening, we see several toasts made to the newlyweds.
"Hi everybody. I'm Silver. I'm not only the maid of honor but I'm also Kelly's sister. And um...I just wanted to say that I'm so happy for Brandon and Kelly. Now, I got a new brother in law. Being in the same house as these two showed me what being in love is all about. They're definitely my role models of love and I hope to have what they have. I love you guys," said Silver.
"Hi, I'm Steve, one of the best men. I know there are so many things that I can say to express how happy I am for Brandon and Kelly right now. But I'm gonna just say one thing...It's About Time! " said Steve.
Everybody laughs and cheers in agreement.
"But seriously, I've known Brandon and Kelly since high school. I couldn't ask for better best friends than these two. They've kept me out of trouble and when I did get in trouble, they've got me out of it. I definitely matured just by knowing them. If it wasn't for their guidance, I probably wouldn't have met the love of my life, Janet," added Steve.
Janet smiles.
"So, here's to Brandon and Kelly...and the wonderful times they awaits them together," said Steve raising his glass.
Everybody raises their glasses.
"Oh and one more thing...you guys can do it all night long...you have my blessing," joked Steve.
Everybody laughs and claps.
"You two are one of the most important people in my life. I know you know that I've have been shutting you two out a bit. I'm sorry; it's not because I don't love you both; I just want what you two have. I think it's great that you found each other again because I think you guys are great together," said Dylan.
"Hi, we're Brandon's parents. And as parents, we always want our kids to be successful and find happiness in life. And I can't recall a time that my son is more happier than he is right now," said Jim.
Brandon and Kelly smile.
"Kelly, we've always loved you like a daughter and now that you are really are, we just would like to say welcome to family. You make each other so happy and us so proud. We love you and wish you the best on your lives together. To Brandon and Kelly," said Cindy raising her glass.
"To Brandon and Kelly," said everybody raising their glasses.
Brandon and Kelly kiss. Everybody claps.
What a wonderful celebration this has been. To many in that room, it was more than a wedding. It was a reunion of past and present friends and family. Some time goes by and we see everybody is eating. Many of the guests are going to each other's tables and talking amongst themselves.
Kelly is holding Sammy and Brandon is playing with him. He tickles Sammy and they laugh.
We see a video screen comes down in the middle by the main table.
"Is everybody having a good time?" asked David catching everybody's attention.
Everybody cheers in agreement.
"Well, it's time for the wedding video. Now David and I actually had a lot of trouble making this into a short video. There were so many great moments shared by Brandon and Kelly. All I have to say is that these are some of everybody's favorite moments of one of our favorite couples captured on film," said Donna.
"I wish we could've included all the moments but we'll be keeping you here for hours. Thanks to everybody who helped out with the video. Enjoy," said David.
The lights dim and the video come on.
We don't get to see the entire video but it includes mostly stills and short video clips from their West Beverly High and California University days. David and Donna narrate the video with some music playing on some parts of the video.
We hear laughs and awws as everybody watches the video.
Later in the night, we see Cindy and Kelly dancing with Sammy.
We see Brandon slow dancing with Andrea.
"You've come a long way, Brandon," said Andrea.
"Yeah, I think I saw most of my life flash before my eyes in that video," said Brandon.
"Mine too. It seems like ages ago since I've had a normal life," said Andrea.
"What are you talking about? You got a kid. That's normal," replied Brandon.
"A teenage daughter who acts more like a sister than a daughter. Sometimes I even forget she actually came out of me," said Andrea looking at Hannah on the dance floor.
"That's a good thing, I assume," said Brandon looking at Hannah too.
"Yeah, I have to admit that it is. Even though I'm not with anybody right now, I'm not alone," said Andrea.
"You're a great mom," said Brandon.
"Thanks Brandon," said Andrea.
They hug.
Kelly smiles and comes over.
"Hey you two," said Kelly.
"Hey Kel," said Brandon.
"Looks like you two are having fun," said Kelly.
"Yeah, I was just showing Andrea my new dance moves," said Brandon joking.
"Uh huh," laughed Kelly.
"Kelly, congratulations again," said Andrea leaning in for a hug.
"Thanks Andrea," said Kelly hugging Andrea.
"I'm so happy you two finally got married," said Andrea.
Brandon puts his arm around Kelly.
"Us too," said Kelly.
"I'm gonna go and catch up with a few others. I'll see you guys later," said Andrea.
"Ok," said Brandon and Kelly.
Brandon and Kelly start to dance.
"Well well well….it's been a busy day," said Brandon.
"Yeah, you tired already?" asked Kelly smiling at Brandon
"No, never too tired to skip that," replied Brandon smiling.
"Oh no; I wouldn't have it. I am looking forward to our night together; our first night as husband and wife," said Kelly.
"Me too," said Brandon.
They just smile at each other for a moment.
Dylan and Brenda come by.
"Hey, what's going on? Why are you two just standing there? Shouldn't you two be dancing?" asked Dylan joking.
"Oh, we were just staring into each other eyes," replied Kelly.
"Yeah we can do that for hours. It's probably something you won't understand," joked Brandon.
Dylan has a funny look on her face as he looks at Brandon. Then he turns and looks at Kelly.
"You're right. I don't get it," joked Dylan.
"What do you see in him?" asked Dylan joking.
Brandon playfully hits Dylan's shoulder.
Kelly and Brenda laughs.
"Well Brandon, if you aren't going to dance, do you mind if I have a dance with Kelly?" asked Dylan.
"Sure, go ahead. We'll be right here…keeping an eye on you two," replied Brandon joking.
"Yeah, and maybe we can teach you a thing or two about dancing," replied Dylan as they walk away.
"Hey, how you doing?" asked Brenda.
"Mmm…I just got married. So I can't complain," replied Brandon smiling.
"That's quite an accomplishment. It's good to see you smiling again," said Brenda.
"Thanks. What about your smile?" asked Brandon.
"What about it?" asked Brenda.
"I see you were spending some time with Dylan over there. What's going on there?" asked Brandon.
"Nothing, we were just catching up," replied Brenda.
"Ok, so you say," said Brandon.
"We were," said Brenda.
"I'm only saying since every time I glanced over to your side, I see you two together," said Brenda.
Brenda gives Brandon a sneaky look.
"C'mon, you tell your big brother what's going on. Are you two back together?" asked Brandon.
"Why? Now that you're married, you think you think you're an expert on love?" asked Brenda joking.
"Well, out of the two of us, I am the one that's married," replied Brandon.
Brenda playfully hits him.
"Besides, didn't you just saw each other a few months ago?" asked Brandon.
"A lot can happen in a few months," replied Brenda.
"I'll say," said Brandon.
A few closing moments show a few individual and group photos, Silver & Dixon dancing, and Brandon & Kelly cutting the wedding cake. Kelly takes a piece of the cake and puts it in Brandon's mouth. Then they share a kiss.
Late we see, Kelly throwing the bouquet.
"Ok, I'm going to throw the bouquet now," said Kelly with her back facing against a group of single women.
She chucks the bouquet into the crowd showing Brenda catching it. Brenda grabs onto the bouquet as some of the single girls hug her.
Later that night, we see Brandon alone in bed. He is checking his phone. He looks at the bathroom.
"Kel, is everything ok in there?" asked Brandon.
We see Kelly is in the bathroom.
"Yeah, I'll be right out," replied Kelly who is sitting on the toilet.
She has a worried look on her face as she glances at a timer on the sink counter.
The camera zooms in to the clock. The clock makes a "ding" sound as time is up.
To be continued…
Author's Note – Ok, a few (or some of you) may be thinking; why didn't save the wedding for Chapt 50? Well, I do have a good reason. I couldn't stretch the story any further. More importantly, I didn't want to. Lol.
