Author's Note – Hi Readers! This is another chapter that didn't make the final version of my story. But I included here anyway. So enjoy!
Chpt 52 – Jobbed
Brandon and Kelly drove up the driveway. They get out of the car. They are both carrying the luggage up the steps.
"Ok, you are ready for this?" asked Brandon.
"Ready for what?" asked Kelly.
"Entering our home for the first time as husband and wife?" asked Brandon.
"I was ready when you for this moment when you first came back into my life. You showed up at my work and changed my life forever…for the best," replied Kelly leaning in for a kiss.
They kiss.
"Me too," said Brandon.
They walk up to the doorstep.
They look at each other.
"Can I carry you over the threshold?" asked Brandon.
"Ok," replied Kelly giving him a smile.
They put their luggage down and he picks her up in his arms.
"Who's gonna open door now?" asked Brandon.
"I dunno. I guess we can wait," joked Kelly.
"Eh…My arms are getting tired," said Brandon.
Kelly laughs.
"I'll open the door," said Silver opening the door from the other side.
Brandon and Kelly smile as they go in. Once inside, Brandon puts Kelly down.
"Hi…welcome back," said Silver.
Brandon and Kelly hug Silver.
"Thanks. Good to be back," said Brandon.
Sammy comes out of his bedroom.
"Mommy; daddy," said Sammy running towards Brandon and Kelly.
"Oh hi honey. I missed you so much," said Kelly hugging and kissing Sammy.
They all hug and welcome each other back.
Brandon and Kelly are sitting at a café next to Brenda, Jim, and Cindy at the airport. Brenda is holding Abigail in her arms.
"Thanks again guys for holding down the fort while we were gone," said Brandon.
"Not a problem. We all had a great time," said Cindy.
"I'm glad we got to spend time with Sammy while he's still wants to spend time with us," said Jim.
"Why? You guys are the cool grandparents ever," joked Brandon.
Kelly and Brenda laughs.
"I wonder how long until we're all together again," said Kelly.
Everybody looks around at each other and smile.
"Let's make an appointment not to stay away from each other too long," said Brenda.
"Yeah. The past few days brought back all these wonderful memories of when you kids were still in high school and we were all at the house," said Cindy.
"We're all family," said Brenda.
Kelly smiles at Brenda.
"Mom, dad, and Brenda; you guys came come by anytime you want….," said Brandon.
"Thanks Brandon," said Cindy.
"As long as you babysit," said Brandon under his breath.
Everybody laughs.
A little bit later, we see Brandon and Kelly standing by the viewing area looking outside.
They wave at the plane as it departs.
Brandon puts his arm around Kelly's shoulders and pulls her closer towards him.
Later that evening, Brandon and Kelly are in bed. Kelly is working on her computer. Brandon is reading.
Brandon is trying to read but easily gets distracted by Kelly's typing.
"Looks like you got a lot of work there," said Brandon.
"Yeah; I know, I look stressed out. I can't believe I've only been gone a week and I'm already slammed with e-mails," said Kelly.
Brandon smiles as he closes his book. He leans towards Kelly.
"Maybe, I'm just the guy to relieve that stress," said Brandon leaning in to kiss Kelly's neck.
Kelly starts to enjoy it but snaps back to reality and her work and breaks it.
"Brandon…," said Kelly.
"What?" asked Brandon.
"Honey, I'm sorry. I really have to work," replied Kelly.
Brandon backs away.
"Work will this be here after we're done," said Brandon going back to kissing Kelly.
"I know…I want to…we had lots of fun on our honeymoon….but I really need to focus on my work now," said Kelly.
"This can't wait till tomorrow when you're actually at work?" asked Brandon.
"No, it really can't," replied Kelly with a stern look.
Brandon backs away again.
"Ok. I'm sorry…good night," said Brandon.
Brandon turns, pulls the covers over himself and closes his eyes.
Kelly notices that Brandon is disappointed.
In the morning, Brandon and Kelly are still in bed. Kelly is awake on her side of the bed. She constantly peeks over to Brandon's side.
Brandon starts to stir.
"Hey," said Kelly.
"Hi," said Brandon.
"Is it too late to apologize for last night?" asked Kelly.
"No. But there's no need to. You had to work. I probably would be doing the same if I was still working," replied Brandon.
"Wow, thanks for that. I was ready to give you an apology you'll never forget," said Kelly.
"Is it too late to change my mind?" asked Brandon smiling.
Kelly smiles and gets on top of Brandon. She leans in and kisses Brandon.
"I guess not," smiled Brandon.
"I didn't mean when I said that our honeymoon was over," said Kelly.
"I know. I wouldn't believe you if you said it," said Brandon.
They smile and kiss.
Some time goes by and we see Kelly getting dress for work. Brandon is still in bed. With his hands behind his head, he admires as he watches Kelly get dress for work.
"So, what do you have plan for the day?" asked Kelly.
"Spending the day with Sammy. Maybe he'll give me some good ideas on what I can do for work," replied Brandon.
"I wouldn't count on that. Sammy has a good reputation of helping me get used to not working," said Kelly.
Brandon thinks for a moment.
"Well, maybe we'll win the lottery and that'll come true," said Brandon.
"Well now, that's just crazy talk," joked Kelly smiling at Brandon.
"Is it so crazy that I want to spend the day with my family every day?" asked Brandon.
"Yeah; but until that happens, I got to go back to work," replied Kelly.
"You're such a buzz-kill," joked Brandon.
Kelly laughs.
Brandon walks into his bedroom carrying a basket full of laundry. He sets the clothes on the bed and starts to fold them.
His phone rings. He sees the number is unlisted but answers it anyway.
"Hello," said Brandon.
"Hello; is this Brandon Walsh?" asked a guy.
"Yes, this is Brandon," replied Brandon.
"Hi Brandon, this is Arthur Kennagan from the Pacifica Graduate Institute," said Arthur.
"Hi," said Brandon.
"My former colleague, Richard Davenport called me and told me about you," said Arthur.
"Ok. I hope he said good things about me," joked Brandon nervously.
"Don't worry, Brandon. He was praising you the entire time. I hear that you're looking for work," said Arthur.
"Ummm yeah…I am," said Brandon.
"Well then…good. We would like for you to visit our campus and we can talk more about what we can offer you," said Arthur.
"Would that be ok with you?" asked Arthur.
Brandon is too nervous to answer for a moment.
"Brandon, is that ok with you?' asked Arthur.
"Yes; I'm sorry to keep you waiting sir; it'll be a honor to meet you," replied Brandon.
"Well, that's great. I'm sure it'll be a pleasure for us too," said Arthur.
"How's next Friday at 11am?" asked Arthur.
"Sounds great," replied Brandon with a nervous look on his face.
"Great. My secretary will give you all the details and contact information," said Arthur.
"Thank you," said Brandon.
Later that night, Brandon and Kelly are getting ready for bed.
"Busy day?" asked Brandon.
"Tell me about it. You know, I thought being a former student of a school that I'm currently working in would make my job easier. I come to learn that it's not," replied Kelly frustrated.
"I mean, it just seems people don't learn from the past. This is the second kid so far this year that got pregnant," continued Kelly.
"Sorry to hear that," said Brandon.
"Yeah, thanks," said Kelly who gives Brandon a weak smile.
She takes Brandon's hand and holds it.
"I'm sorry for babbling. Thanks again for doing all the stuff today," said Kelly.
"No problem," said Brandon.
"How was your day?" asked Kelly.
"Good. Did the laundry, cleaned the kitchen, cooked dinner…and got an important phone call," replied Brandon.
"Oh yea…who from?" asked Kelly.
"Remember Rich?" asked Brandon.
"Oh no…..what does he want now…let me guess, he's leaving Linda and want you to be his wingman," joked Kelly.
"No, it wasn't Rich. It was from the Pacifica Graduate Institute," said Brandon.
"Oh," said Kelly with a semi-worried look.
"They want me to go and visit their campus and meet them. I think they may offer me something," said Brandon.
"Oh...well…congratulations," said Kelly sounding not too excited.
"Thanks...you could be a little happier for me," said Brandon.
"Honey, I am. But I'm saving that if and when you get the job," said Kelly.
Brandon stays silent as he's not fond of Kelly's reply.
"So are you considering this if they offer you something?" asked Kelly.
"I dunno yet. For the time being, I don't want to say anything that's going to make you angry with me," said Brandon.
"Thanks for that. But I think I have a feeling that you're going to say yes," said Kelly.
"So what's wrong with that? Don't you want me to get a job?" asked Brandon.
"Yes Brandon, I do. But not one that will drift you away from your family," said Kelly.
"It's in Pacifca, not Washington. How is that a problem?" asked Brandon.
"It's like 6 hours away," replied Kelly.
"Ok then; I'll fly back and forth," said Brandon.
"Brandon, you know we can't afford that," said Kelly.
"I'm just coming up with some options here. Can you work with me?" asked Brandon.
They pause for a brief moment.
"Looks like, we're going to be angry with each other anyway," said Kelly.
"Kel, I've been looking for work for almost a year now. Can you please be a little more sympathetic and understand that I do miss working?" asked Brandon.
"Brandon, I'm sorry. But we just got married and you're already making big decisions without me?" said Kelly.
"Does this mean you don't want me to get the job?" asked Brandon.
"I don't want to say," replied Kelly.
A few days go by and we see Brandon, Sammy, and Silver at the Peach Pit counter.
"Kids, mom's gonna be working late. So it'll be just us for dinner," said Brandon who looks a little saddened.
"Ok," said Sammy who is playing with his food.
Silver just sits there laughs at Sammy.
Brandon looks forward with a blank stare.
"Hey Nat?" asked Brandon.
Nat comes by.
"Can we get some burgers and one to go for Kelly?" asked Brandon.
"Sure…where is she? I haven't seen her in a while," asked Nat.
"School. She's working late," replied Kelly.
"Ok…sure," said Nat.
Nat walks over to the kitchen and tells the chef the order. Then he walks back to Brandon.
"Now, what else can I help you with?" asked Nat.
"That's it. Burgers will be enough," replied Brandon.
"No, not the food. C'mon Brandon, you've been coming here every night for the past 5 days depressed. What else can I help you with?" asked Nat.
"Maybe I'm depressed because I'm hungry," joked Brandon smiling.
"Food will be ready soon. In the meantime, you wanna tell me what's bothering you?" asked Nat.
"Eh…it's nothing new. Just trying to find work is so tough," replied Brandon.
"Brandon, you can always help out here. It's not much but it's something until you find something else," said Nat.
"Thanks Nat…But….," said Brandon who looks hesitant.
Nat is trying to read Brandon's facial expression.
"Brandon, it's ok if you don't want to," said Nat.
"It's not because I don't want to…," said Brandon.
"I know. You don't have to say it, I know….it's not what you want to do," said Nat.
Brandon looks at him in silence.
"Nat, you know I'm always available you whenever you're in a bind," said Brandon.
"Yeah, I do. I'm always grateful for that," said Nat.
Silver comes by and sits next to Brandon.
"So Brandon, Kelly told me about your job offer," said Silver.
"Job offer?" asked Nat intrigued.
"It wasn't a job offer. It was just a possible job offer," said Brandon.
"Well, it's a start," said Nat.
"Kelly tells me it's in Pacifica," said Silver.
"Wow, that's a long commute," said Nat.
"Yeah, it is," said Silver.
"Guys, don't worry. I've already called the guy back telling him that I'm no longer interested," replied Brandon.
"You did?" asked Silver surprised.
"Yeah," replied Brandon.
"Kelly was right. I would miss you guys too much," said Brandon grabbing Sammy and tickling him.
Sammy giggles.
"Ok then," said Silver.
"Brandon, that's a brave thing to do," said Nat.
"Are you happy with your decision?" asked Silver.
"No, but I'm sure I'll find something close by," replied Brandon.
"Brandon, I know Kelly can be difficult at times…please don't tell her I said that…." smiled Silver.
Brandon chuckles a little. He lets go of Sammy. Sammy sits back at his seat.
"But I know my sister. She'll understand if you take a job," said Silver.
"How do you know? Did she tell you?" asked Brandon.
"No, it's just a hunch," replied Silver.
"I don't want to take that chance of her being mad at me. She means everything to me. Plus, I don't want me to be the guy who gets married and ditches his wife," said Brandon.
"Brandon, I only wish my future husband will be as sweet as you," said Silver who goes and hugs Brandon.
Brandon smiles as they hug.
They break.
That evening, we see Brandon cleaning up in the kitchen.
Kelly opens the door and walks in. She sees Brandon at the kitchen.
"Hi," said Kelly.
"Hey," said Brandon.
"Sorry, I'm late again. Thanks again for picking up Sammy," said Kelly.
"No problem. How was work?" asked Brandon.
"Ok. Busy, but ok," replied Kelly.
"Good," said Brandon.
Kelly sees a bag with food on the table.
"Mmm…is this for me?" asked Kelly.
"Yeah, I just thought you may be hungry," replied Brandon.
"Thank you," said Kelly who goes and kisses Brandon.
They hug.
She smiles as she puts her hand on Brandon's face.
"What?" asked Brandon smiling.
"I'm gonna miss this face when he goes back to work," replied Kelly.
"What work?" asked Brandon.
"Your possible job at Pacifica," replied Kelly.
"I called them today and cancelled the visit," said Brandon.
"What? Why?" asked Kelly surprised.
"I was thinking about you said…and you're right," said Brandon.
Kelly gives Brandon a sad look.
"What?" asked Brandon confused.
"I was thinking about this on my way home. I think you should go for it," replied Kelly.
"But it's too far," said Brandon.
"We'll make it work," said Kelly.
"Are you serious?" asked Brandon.
"Yes, I am," said Kelly who sits at the table.
Brandon goes and sits across from her.
"What happened to what you said the other day?" asked Brandon.
"It's not fair for me to keep you from your dreams. Brandon, you gave up so much to be with me. This is the least I can do for you," replied Kelly.
"What about me not making decisions without consulting you first?" asked Brandon.
"We're consulting it now. Just go and see the school. Then whatever happens, follow your heart. I'll be here. Sammy and Silver will be here waiting for you," replied Kelly.
"I don't want you to wait for me. I want to be available whenever you need me," said Brandon.
"Honey, that's very sweet. If you don't want to do this, then it's ok. But if you really do, please don't let me hold you back. I love you and I support you 100%," said Kelly.
Brandon smiles and reaches out for Kelly's hand. He takes her hand and kisses it.
Kelly smiles.
"Thank you. I love you," said Brandon.
"I love you too," said Kelly.
"Does this mean you'll call them back?" asked Kelly.
"Yeah, it couldn't hurt to look…that is if they still want to meet with me," replied Brandon.
"I think I'll gonna give them a call right now," said Brandon.
"Excuse me," added Brandon who quickly gets up.
He gives Kelly a quick kiss on the cheek and goes back to the bedroom.
Kelly smiles but quickly fades when Brandon leaves.
In the bedroom, Brandon is getting dressed. Kelly is helping him get gather his stuff.
"You know, you don't have to wake up so early. I'll be fine," said Brandon.
"It's ok. I want to help. Plus, I want to see you in your suit. I miss that look. So handsome," said Kelly.
"Thanks. If you want, I can wear it in the house too," said Brandon.
"Mmm…for that, I much prefer a different look…a more all natural look if you know what I mean," said Kelly.
"Yes, I do," said Brandon going to give Kelly a kiss.
Kelly grabs a tie and ties it for Brandon while he puts on his jacket.
"I'm glad they gave you another chance to reconsider," said Kelly.
"Me too. I didn't have to grovel too much," joked Brandon.
"If it wasn't for me, you wouldn't have had to cancel in the first place," said Kelly.
"It's ok. You had your reasons," said Brandon.
"Thank you for forgiving me," said Kelly who gives Brandon a hug.
"Go there and give 'em hell," smiled Kelly.
"You know the last time you went far away for a job, I didn't see you for 10 years," said Kelly.
"Babe, you know I can't stand being away from you for more than 10 seconds," said Brandon.
"Really?" asked Kelly smiling.
"Ok; maybe longer than that. But it sounded nice," said Brandon.
Kelly laughs. She buries her head on Brandon's chest and hugs him tightly. He hugs her.
Kelly is in her office at work eating her lunch. Silver walks in.
"Hey Kel," said Silver taking a seat across from her.
"Hey Silver," said Kelly.
"Have you heard from Brandon?" asked Silver.
"No, not yet. I could not stop thinking about him all day long. The suspense is killing me," replied Kelly.
"I think it's pretty brave of you to tell Brandon that you want him to take the job," said Silver.
"Silver, when I told him that, I meant it," said Kelly.
"Cmon Kel. I saw how heartbroken you were when you saw how thrilled he was when he told you," said Silver.
"I was not heartbroken. I was just disappointed that he is going to be working so far away," said Kelly.
"So why did you tell him that you wanted him to take the job?" asked Silver.
"Because it'll make him happy," replied Kelly.
"But are you happy? I think if this bothers you, maybe you can get him to not take it," said Silver.
"It doesn't matter. This is his job, not mine," replied Kelly.
"Yes, it does. You two are married now," said Silver.
"Yes and being in a marriage means you have to work with your partner. Sometimes you have to sacrifice things to make each other happy," said Kelly.
"That's the same thing he told me," said Silver.
"Well then, I know my husband pretty well," smiled Kelly.
"So you think he'll reconsider?" asked Silver.
"I don't know. But if taking the job will make him happy, then I want him to take the job," replied Kelly.
"Haven't you guys been through enough with the long distance relationship? Haven't you learned from the past that this could tear you two apart?" asked Silver.
"Silver, I trust Brandon. Let's just leave it at that," replied Kelly.
"Ok, fine," said Silver who quietly eats.
Kelly looks at Silver in silence. Silver notices and looks back at Kelly with a blank stare.
"I know you're still thinking about it, huh? I can tell" asked Silver.
"How could I not? We were just talking about it," replied Kelly.
"Nevermind. I was just pointing out the obvious," said Silver.
Kelly gives Silver a disapproved look.
"Silver, if you must know, it does not make me happy that Brandon is working far away. If I had it my way, Brandon would be working here. I would love it but sometimes we don't what we want. I thought about this long and hard and I want Brandon to be happy. I saw the look on his face and if he can get this job, he'll be happy," said Kelly.
"Kel, Brandon doesn't need a job to make him happy. All he need is you," said Silver.
"Thanks Silver. That means a lot," said Kelly.
"I didn't tell Brandon this but at first I kept thinking about what happened with Dylan and I," said Silver.
"What? You and Dylan?" asked Silver surprised.
"Yeah; I mean before Brandon and I got back together," replied. Kelly.
"Oh…sorry, go on," said Silver.
"Dylan used to do these types of short term gigs. He would tell me; see you in a few days. Then it became see you in a week. Then it became, see you in a month. Then see you every other month…until when he said "So, I'll see ya," said Kelly sadly.
"Yeah, I had forgotten about that," said Silver.
"Brandon has never been the type to leave his family. But in the back of my mind, I'm still pretty worried," said Kelly.
"It'll hurt me but I don't know how Sammy will feel if that happens. He's just getting used to having a dad around," added Kelly.
"So why did you let him go?" asked Silver.
"Because I'll never know until I let him go," replied Kelly.
"Is this a risk you're willing to take?" asked Silver.
"I don't want to but I just can't live with myself knowing that I'm the one who kept him away from his career. I love him. I want him to do well. I want him to be happy. I think that says it all," replied Kelly.
We see glimpses of Brandon arriving at the Pacifica Graduate Institute, shaking hands with Arthur, and walking around the campus.
Brandon is sitting in Arthur's office. Arthur walks in with a cup of coffee and hands it to Brandon.
"Thanks you, sir," said Brandon.
Arthur sits down across from Brandon.
"Let's cut to the chase, Brandon," said Arthur.
"Brandon, I know we've only got to know each other for the past few hours…but I must say that I have no doubt that you will be a great fit here," said Arthur.
"Thank you, sir," said Brandon smiling.
"Oh, please feel free to call me Arthur. We may wear suits here but we're very casual," joked Arthur.
"Thanks Arthur," said Brandon extending his hand to Arthur.
Arthur smiles as they shake hands.
"Now, there is the small problem that you don't possess a graduate degree," said Arthur giving Brandon a look.
"Care to explain?" asked Arthur.
"Absolutely. While not having an advanced degree may cause me to come off as someone with insufficient education. But the truth is that I feel I'm qualified for the position. I believe being a manger is similar in being a professor. Both should be very knowledgeable on the subject and can be role models for others," said Brandon.
"Good answer. But unfortunately, this just will not work out without the degree. It's a requirement that we cannot overlook. I'm sorry," said Arthur.
"Oh…ok, so am I," said Brandon looking a little disappointed.
"Given that, we've decided we just can't lose you…so we've decided to enroll you in our graduate program at no expense. You'll also be put into an extensive professor training program, said Arthur.
"Wow, that's…great. Thank you," said Brandon.
"Well, don't thank me yet. I'm not going to lie to you, Brandon. This is a very extensive program. It requires major dedication and time. Knowing that live far away, I just wanted you to know this before you commit to anything," said Arthur.
"Thank you, Arthur. I really appreciate it," said Brandon who has a worried look on his face.
Later, we see Brandon sitting in his car. He sits there with a depressed look.
He is about to start the car when his phone rings.
He looks at the name and answers it.
"Hi," said Brandon.
"Brandon, hi. Is this a good time?" asked Dylan.
"Yeah, what's up?" asked Brandon.
"Nothing much, just wanted to see how it was. I just didn't know when you and Kelly were coming back from your honeymoon," replied Dylan.
"Thanks for calling, D. I had a few other things on my mind so I forgot to call you to thank you. I should've done that," said Brandon.
"It's ok. I just called Kelly and she told me that you were at a job interview," said Dylan.
"Yeah, I just got out of it," said Brandon.
"So, how did it go?" asked Dylan.
"It's ok. I got the job but they since I don't have a masters degree, they need me to also be a student to get the degree," replied Brandon.
"Well, there's nothing wrong with more education. But I heard it's in Pacifica," said Dylan.
"Yeah. That was pretty much the deciding factor," said Brandon.
"So, let me guess, you turned the job down," said Dylan.
"Gee, how'd you figured that?" asked Brandon.
"I guess I know you too well, man….and the fact that you sound really depressed for a guy who just landed a new job," replied Dylan.
"Well, you're right," said Brandon.
"Did you tell Kelly yet?" asked Dylan.
"No. She wasn't too happy at first when I told her about the interview," replied Brandon.
"She's just worried," said Dylan.
"So am I. That's why I decided not to take the job," said Brandon.
"You'll find something else. Hang in there," said Dylan.
"Thanks Dylan," said Brandon.
"Ok. Talk to you guys later," said Dylan.
"See ya," said Brandon.
He thinks about calling Kelly. He was about to dial the number but decides not to. He puts his phone to the side and starts the car and drives off.
Later that night, Brandon pulls into the driveway. He slowly walks up the steps to the door. He sighs as he puts in his keys and opens the door.
He opens the door.
"Surprise!" said Kelly, Silver, and Sammy as Brandon opened the door.
Brandon has a very surprised look on his face.
"What's the occasion?" asked Brandon still standing at the door.
"It's for congratulating on being a wonderful husband and father…and for being such a good provider," replied Kelly going to give him a kiss and a hug.
"Way to bring in those big bucks, huh Brandon?" asked Silver.
"Good job, dad," replied Sammy.
"Thanks guys. I really don't know what to say," said Brandon.
"You don't have to say anything. Come in, relax, and enjoy a home-cooked meal with your family," said Kelly.
"Well, I love a home cook meal," said Brandon.
Brandon finally walks in.
That evening, we see Brandon sitting on the living room sofa with his laptop. Sammy walks in his pajamas.
"Hi dad," said Sammy.
"Hey Sammy. What's up?" asked Brandon.
"Just wanted to say good night," said replied Sammy.
"Good night, Sammy," said Brandon smiling at him.
"Did you quit the job because of me and mom?" asked Sammy.
"No," replied Brandon.
"Why do you ask?" asked Brandon.
"Because I saw how mom was when while you were gone," replied Sammy walking to Brandon.
Sammy sits on the sofa next to Brandon.
"And how was she?" asked Brandon.
"Kind of sad but trying to be happy. But I know when she's sadder than happier," replied Sammy.
"Oh you do, do you?" asked Brandon.
"Yeah, I know mom for a long time now. I think I would know when she's said and when she's happy," replied Sammy.
"Wow; I don't know if I have those kinds of powers like you do," said Brandon amusing Sammy.
"Can you tell if mom is sad or happy?" asked Sammy.
"Sometimes. But other times, it's not so easy," replied Brandon.
"I know; I feel that way too sometimes," said Sammy.
"So what do you do when you're not sure?" asked Brandon.
"I go and ask her….But before I ask her, I'll be sure to give her a big hug and a kiss first before talking to her. This way she knows this is serious and I mean business," replied Sammy.
Brandon chuckles a bit. He gives Sammy a hug.
"No, not like that, tighter. You need to sweep her off your feet," said Sammy.
"Like this," said Sammy going to give Brandon a big hug.
Sammy's arms barely reach Brandon's body to give him a full hug.
They break the hug with smiles on their faces.
"Thanks Sammy," said Brandon.
"Anytime. It's the least I could do for you staying here," said Sammy.
"Thanks but you know if I had taken the job, I would still be living here," said Brandon.
"Yeah, but it's nice to actually see you while you're living here," said Sammy.
"Thanks. That's really sweet," said Brandon.
Brandon goes and gives Sammy a tight hug and a kiss on the cheek.
"Better," said Sammy.
Brandon grabs Sammy and tickles him. Sammy giggles as Brandon continues to tickle him.
Later, we see Brandon slowly and quietly opened the door into his bedroom. He walks in slowly carrying his laptop.
After closing the door, he turns around to see Kelly reading in bed.
"Hey, I thought you were asleep," said Brandon.
"I couldn't; I think there was too much sugar from the cake," said Kelly.
Brandon climbs into bed next to Kelly.
"That was a great dinner; thank you," said Brandon.
"You're welcome, honey," said Kelly.
"I'm sorry you went through all that trouble over nothing," said Brandon.
"What? Why?" asked Kelly.
"There's nothing to celebrate," replied Brandon.
"Yes there is. So what if you're not taking the job. You're choosing to spend more time with your family. And I love you for that," said Kelly.
Brandon leans in and they kiss.
"Thanks," said Brandon.
"And don't you ever forget it," smiled Kelly.
They kiss again.
"So, I guess it's back to square one for me," said Brandon.
"I see it as a fresh start….what were you doing out there?" asked Kelly.
"I was just working on resume," replied Brandon.
"Can I read it?" asked Kelly.
Brandon gives Kelly a confused smile but gives the laptop to Kelly.
Kelly pulls up the screen and reads it. She finishes reading it.
"So, what do you think?" asked Brandon.
"Do you mind if I make one minor improvement?" asked Kelly.
"What is it?" asked Brandon.
Kelly doesn't answer. She starts to type on the keyboard. Brandon looks at her and not the screen.
Kelly finishes typing and shows the screen to Brandon. He reads it and smiles.
"I would hire you just for that," said Kelly.
Brandon leans in and they hug. Kelly puts her head on his shoulder.
The screen shows Brandon's resume with a blinking cursor after the sentence reading "Loving Husband and Father."
