Hi everybody!

I had originally written this chapter as an introduction to the main upcoming storyline. After mulling over it, I realize that it just serves as a long introduction. Please note that I'm not giving myself a bad review. Lol. I'll let you be the judge of that. To me, I just find this chapter unnecessary. But for those who want to read this, you'll find that there is something really different from all the previous chapters. Really, I'm not lying. Lol. Let's see if you can find out what that is. Enjoy!

Chpt 58 - Baby Shower

We see Abigail sleeping in her crib. Dylan is sitting on a chair next to the crib with his head hunch over the railing. He looks at Abigail.

Brenda walks in and goes to Dylan.

"Hey," said Brenda.

"Hey Bren," said Dylan who looked spooked.

"Sorry, did I scare you?" asked Brenda.

"Yeah; I was just focusing on her sleeping," replied Dylan.

"Mesmerizing, isn't it," asked Brenda.

"Yeah. But now, it seems that my attention has shifted to you," replied Dylan.

"Mmm. I know where this is going," said Brenda who is walking away.

"Why? What did I do?" asked Dylan.

"Nothing. It just feels a little weird. That's all," replied Brenda.

"About us?" asked Dylan.

"Yeah. I mean, we haven't officially talked about it yet," replied Brenda.

"Ok, let's talk about it," said Dylan.

"Not with my parents around," said Brenda.

"You mean, not with your dad around?" asked Dylan.

"You know my dad doesn't have a problem with you," replied Brenda.

"He thinks of you as a son," added Brenda.

"Yeah, I don't quite see that," said Dylan.

"Why? What's wrong?" asked Brenda.

"I don't he likes the fact that I have to leave from time to time whenever I have to work," replied Dylan.

"Well, that means that he wants you to stay here with me and Abby. When we were in high school, he can't stand you being here with me. You see? He has changed," said Brenda.

Dylan gives Brenda an odd look.

Somewhere in Japan. We see David and Donna in their house.

"David, have you seen my silk blouse?" asked Donna.

"No," replied David.

"Well, can you please help me find it? I want to wear it to the party," said Donna.

"Donna, I'm kind of busy right now," said David.

"Fine. I'll find it myself. I'm just trying to look good," said Donna.

"Donna, it's a baby shower. All the attention will be on Kelly," said David.

"But I still want to look nice. And I think you should want to look nice too," said Donna.

"I don't think I'm gonna go," said David.

"What? Why not?" asked Donna.

"I have two major deals I'm trying to close this weekend. I can't just leave," replied David.

"David, you have Jerry, your lawyers, and accountants who already told you that they'll take care of everything," said Donna.

"But I just want to make sure those things get done," said David.

"You'll have your phone. They can just call you if they need to," said Donna.

"Not while I'm on the plane," said David.

"There's text and emails," said Donna.

"I'm not getting out of this, am I?" asked David.

"Nope. Plus, it'll be good to see everybody again," replied Donna.

"We just saw everybody at the wedding," said David.

"Fine. David, if you don't want to go, I'll just go alone with Ruby," said Donna.

Donna walks away. David sighs and just stands there.

Somewhere in Santa Cruz. We see Madeline packing her toys.

"Maddy, we're going to a party. You don't need to bring those toys with you," said Steve.

"Why? They love to party," said Madeline.

"Yeah. But this type of party is for you to have fun with the people there. You're going to be too busy to play with the toys," said Steve.

"Well ok. Can I bring one for the ride?" asked Madeline.

"Sure – just one," replied Steve.

"Ok," smiled Madeline.

"Honey?" asked Janet from the other room.

"Coming," replied Steve leaving Madeline's room.

Steve walks to the other room and sees Janet.

"Hey, what's up?" asked Steve.

"I'm not sure if this is a good gift for them," replied Janet.

"Why not? It's a $100 gift card to Baby's R Us. They can get anything and everything they want," said Steve.

"I don't know. A gift card just sounds a little too impersonal," said Janet.

"Ok…but we went through all the other choices – a crib, a bassinet, the stroller….," said Steve.

"Yeah, I got it," said Janet interrupting Steve.

"You said you were afraid that someone might get the same thing…and beat you to it," said Steve.

"Thanks for rubbing it in my face," said Janet.

"Ahh honey, I didn't mean it like that. This is Brandon and Kelly. They are our friends. They don't care what we give them," said Steve.

"Yeah, I know. But we've already gave them a gift card for their wedding," said Janet.

"And so far, you haven't any complaints," joked Steve smiling.

Janet gives Steve a mean look.

Jim and Cindy are sitting at a café.

"Is Brenda going with us?" asked Jim.

"No. She said she's taking a separate flight with Dylan," replied Cindy.

Jim takes a sip of his coffee.

"So, what do you think of Dylan being back?" asked Jim.

"Good, I guess," asked Cindy.

"I'm sure Brenda is falling for him again. I'm not sure if this is a good thing," said Jim.

"He makes her happy," replied Cindy.

"For now," said Jim.

"Jim, he's the same Dylan we've known in Beverly Hills," replied Cindy.

"Exactly," said Jim.

"So, what's the problem?" asked Cindy.

"I don't like how he just gets up and leave all the time whenever someone calls him for a job," replied Jim.

"I don't want Brenda to get hurt again," added Jim.

"Jim, our daughter is an adult and she has a child of her own. I think she's old enough to make her own decisions," said Cindy.

"But that doesn't mean she won't get hurt," said Jim.

"Jim, we've been through this before. If you bring this up with Brenda, you know it's only going to drive her away from us…just like before," said Cindy.

"I know. I don't want to sound like the bad guy here. I know Dylan is like a son to us. But his track record with relationships isn't very good," said Jim.

"Are you referring to him and Kelly?" asked Cindy.

"Yeah. I mean, what kind of good father leaves a single woman to raise a kid all by himself?" asked Jim.

"I agree. But maybe he'll be different with Brenda," replied Cindy.

"I hope so…for her sake," said Jim who takes another sip of his coffee.

"Well, don't bring it up at the party," said Cindy.

"I won't," said Jim.

Cindy looks at Jim with a worried look.

Andrea is at the airport sitting in the waiting area. Her phone rings. She smiles. (We can only hear her side of the conversation).

"Hi" said Andrea.

"No, I got here just fine. I'm just waiting to board," said Andrea.

"Mmmm…I wish you can come with me too," said Andrea.

"No, I'm sure they'll want to meet you…not that you have to, if you know what I mean," said Andrea.

"You are not an outcast. You know Brandon would love to see you," said Andrea.

"Yes, I'll tell him you said hello. I'm sure that'll be the same as you being there," joked Andrea.

"Honey, if a genius like you can't find him on Facebook, then maybe he's not on Facebook," joked Andrea.

"Ok, I will ask him," laughed Andrea.

"Ok…love you too…yea, I'll call you after I land," said Andrea.

"Thanks. Bye," said Andrea.

Andrea continues to smile.

Dylan and Brenda at on the plane. They are sitting next to each other.

"So do you think it'll be a boy or a girl?" asked Brenda with Abigail sleeping in her arms.

"What?" asked Dylan confused.

"The baby?" replied Brenda.

"To tell you the truth, I haven't given it much thought," replied Dylan.

"I hope it's a girl. This way they'll have a boy and a girl," said Brenda smiling

"Sure, that's every family's dream," replied Dylan being sarcastic.

Brenda notices Dylan's mood.

"What's wrong?" asked Brenda.

"What? Nothing," replied Dylan.

"You sound like you don't want to go to the party," replied Brenda.

"I just don't want to be traveling thousands of miles for a baby shower. Can't we just send them a card?" replied Dylan.

"Well, it's too late for that now. We're already on the plane," said Brenda.

"And I want to see them. I miss them," added Brenda.

"How could you miss them already? We were just there at the wedding a year ago," said Dylan.

"Well then, I guess I know who's mad at Brandon and Kelly," said Brenda.

"No Bren, that's not it. They're my friends too," said Dylan.

"So what's the problem?" asked Brenda.

"The problem is that they keep inviting us every time they some good news," replied Dylan.

"It's because they want to share their good news with the people they love. Is that so wrong?" asked Brenda.

"It doesn't mean you have to say yes," replied Dylan.

"We'll probably have to see them after the baby is born. Where does it end?" asked Dylan.

"You should hear yourself right now. You don't have to go to the party but I'm going," replied Brenda.

They stay silent for a bit.

"I want to go. It's just that every time I see them, it just reminds me of what I don't have," replied Dylan.

"And what's that?" asked Brenda.

"I dunno; marriage, kids," replied Dylan.

"You want those?" asked Brenda.

"Yeah….yeah, I do," replied Dylan giving Brenda a somber look.

"Well, I never thought I hear Dylan McKay finally ready to settle down and start a family," smiled Brenda.

"Maybe not right this moment but somewhere down the line," said Dylan.

"I see…so what does that make us?" asked Brenda.

"We're a couple," replied Dylan.

"A couple of what?" asked Brenda.

"I dunno, a couple of star-crossed lovers who finally got back together after all these years, "replied Dylan.

"Is that what you want to be?" asked Brenda.

"I dunno. Maybe," replied Dylan.

"So is that all you want?" asked Brenda.

"That and maybe you and me on a beach looking at the sunset," replied Dylan.

"Does it involve Abby?" asked Brenda.

"Sure; she can be there as long as we get some alone time together," replied Dylan.

"Well, she's a baby, Dylan. She has to stay with me all the time," said Brenda.

"Yeah but maybe Jim and Cindy can look after her for a while we spend some time together," said Dylan.

"Dylan, I can't just hand over my baby to my parents whenever you get tired of her. She's my responsibility," said Brenda.

"That's not what I'm saying," said Dylan.

Brenda looks at him waiting for him to say something.

"You know she'll be your responsibility too if we get serious," said Brenda.

David, Donna, and Ruby are on the plane. Donna and Ruby are sitting on one side. David is on the other side while. He is busy on his phone. Ruby is sitting on her seat watching a cartoon on the small TV seat screen. She is excited by what's on the screen and is having trouble staying still.

"Mommy; look," said Ruby.

"Yeah honey; that's cute," said Donna.

"Daddy; look," said Ruby.

David doesn't notice. Donna notices.

"Daddy," said Ruby trying to get off her seat to go to David.

"Baby, don't get off. The plane is moving. It's not safe," said Donna.

"Daddy," said Ruby sad as David is not responding.

The man sitting next to David notices.

"Uhh…sir. I think your daughter's talking to you," said the man.

"Huh, what?" said David who looks at Donna and Ruby.

"David!" said Donna.

"What!?" asked David angrily who looks stressed out.

Ruby looks at David with a scared face and starts to cry a little.

"David, she was just trying to talk to you," said Donna.

"Come here sweetie. It's ok. Daddy didn't mean it," added Donna holding Ruby.

"Ruby, I'm sorry. Daddy's just really busy," said David who feels bad.

"Can't you leave your work alone for an hour and spend some time with your family?" asked Donna.

"No Donna, I can't. I have to get this done. I'll hang out with everybody at the party," replied David.

"Yeah David, you sound like you're in a party mood," said Donna sarcastically.

"Well, can you blame me? I didn't even want to go on this stupid trip. I mean, taking a trip across the world for a baby shower. It's pretty stupid," said David angrily yelling.

The other people on the plane now start to take notice.

"Then you probably shouldn't have come then," said Donna.

"Too late for that, isn't it?" asked David.

A flight attendant comes by.

"Hi, I'm sorry. But can you please lower your voices? Everyone can hear you," asked the flight attendant.

"Yeah, we're sorry about the noise," replied Donna.

"Thank you. Enjoy the rest of your flight," said the flight attendant.

David looks at Donna consoling Ruby. Donna gives David a mean disapproved look before focusing her attention back on Ruby.

Sometime passes by. Ruby has stopped crying and Donna is playing with her. David continues to work on his phone but frequently stops to look at Donna and Ruby.

David gets up from his seat and walks over to Donna and Ruby.

"Hey," said David with a weak smile.

"Hey," said Donna briefly.

"Hey Ruby," said David looking at Ruby.

Ruby stayed quiet for a moment before responding.

"Hi Daddy," said Ruby with a scared look.

David squats so he can look Ruby face to face.

"Look guys, I'm sorry that I yelled at you. I wasn't angry at you guys. I was just stressed out from work," said David.

"Can't you just have fun, daddy?" asked Ruby.

Donna smiles.

"Yeah, I promise I'll have fun on this trip," replied David.

"So what are you going to do?" asked Ruby.

"Well, can I sit and play with you guys?" asked David.

"Ok," said Ruby leaning to give David a hug.

David hugs Donna and kisses her on the cheek.

Donna picks up Ruby so that David can sit down on her seat.

Some time goes by and we see almost everyone sleeping. Ruby is sitting on David's lap leaning on his chest sleeping. David is still awake. He turns to the side and sees Donna stirring. Donna slowly wakes up to see David looking at her and holding Ruby.

"Hey," said Donna.

"Hey," smiled David.

"What me to take her?" asked Donna.

"No, it's ok. Actually, this is kind of relaxing," replied David.

"Ok if you say so," smiled Donna.

"You know I've been thinking with Kelly being pregnant and all…," said Donna.

"Yeah?" asked David.

"Have you given any more thought about you know?" asked Donna smiling.

"Not for a while now. I've just been too wrapped up in signing new artists and scheduling this tour," replied David.

"Oh. I guess you changed your mind then," said Donna.

"No, I haven't. It's just not the right time right now. Maybe after when the tour is over," said David.

"You say that now and the next thing you know, you'll be busy with something else," said Donna.

"Donna, don't be like this. I love Ruby and I do want to have another one. But I can't lose sight on managing this record company. I feel like if I miss this chance, I won't make it later," said David.

"That's how I feel about us having another kid," said Donna.

"What?" asked David.

"I want Ruby to have someone to play with while she's still a toddler," replied Donna.

"Trust me, there's time," said David.

"Just look at Sammy. He's like 6 or 7. That's a big difference and they'll do just fine," added David.

"Yeah but that's different. They just got back together. We've between together for nearly a decade," said Donna.

"I promise you that we won't have to wait a decade for the next one," said David.

"I'm only saying because we're not getting any younger," said Donna.

"What? You're worried about your eggs? They're fine," asked David.

"David! Don't talk about my eggs on a public flight," replied Donna sort of embarrassed.

"Ok. Look, we're both healthy and young. We'll be ok. Trust me," said David.

"Yeah, sure," said Donna.

They look at each other with a worried look.

We see the stewardesses walking back and forth on the isles passing out food. Jim and Cindy are eating their food at their seats.

"How is it?" asked Cindy.

"Not as good as yours but it's fine," replied Jim.

Cindy smiles.

"Thanks. I'll be doing a lot of cooking for Brandon and Kelly," said Cindy.

"It's been a while since I have to cook for an entire family," added Cindy.

"I bet they are looking forward to it," said Jim.

"Oh so am I," said Cindy.

"Feeling like being a mother again?" asked Jim joking.

"Maybe just in the kitchen," replied Cindy.

"And a grandmother in everything else," added Cindy.

"You're a great grandmother," said Jim.

"Thanks. I'm starting to realize that being a grandmother is a lot different than being a mother," said Cindy.

"Mmm…yea, it's less responsibility," said Jim.

"Yeah but whenever I see our when our kids handle certain things differently than us, I feel the urge to say something," said Cindy.

"You're talking about Brenda, aren't you?" asked Jim.

"Well yea. She is a good mother…," replied Cindy.

"But…" said Jim.

"But it bothers me when she tries to do too much with her career. She comes and goes just like that. And she assumes that we can just help her out with that," said Cindy.

"If she's not ready to handle the responsibility on her own; she shouldn't do this to Abby," added Cindy.

"Don't tell her I said that. That'll hurt her," said Cindy.

"Yeah, I know," said Jim.

"I just didn't say anything after seeing what Brenda went through after she found out she couldn't have children. She was so heartbroken," said Cindy.

"And now?" asked Jim.

"Now, she's acting as if that never happened…I know she's the carefree type who doesn't let responsibility stop her from doing the things that she wants to do," said Cindy.

"And the last thing she wants to do is change diapers, midnight feedings, and clean up after Abby," added Cindy.

"And with Dylan and her being close again, I'm worried it's only to get worse," said Jim.

"Let's not think about this too much," said Cindy.

"It's hard not to since it's happening all around us," said Jim.

"Brandon and Kelly aren't the most responsible parents we know. And look at them, they went through so much and came out ok," said Cindy.

"Yeah, but Brenda and Dylan are not Brandon and Kelly," said Jim.

"Speaking of Brandon and Kelly, we'll need to come back once Kelly gives birth," said Cindy.

"When is she scheduled again?" asked Jim.

"In a month," replied Cindy.

"That's really close," said Jim.

"Yeah. We could come back in a few weeks when Kelly's closer to her due date or if they want, we can just stay there," replied Cindy.

Jim thinks about it for a brief moment.

"Ok, that works for me," said Jim.

Cindy looks at Jim.

"Jim, what's wrong?" asked Cindy.

"I could tell you but you said not to talk about it," replied Jim.

Cindy looks at Jim with a concern look.

Steve, Janet, and Madeline are at a toy store. They are in the baby supplies and clothes section. Janet is looking at the cribs.

"Honey, how's this one?" asked Janet looking at the crib.

There is no answer.

"Honey?" asked Janet who starts to look around. She then makes a disapproved look as she sees Steve and Madeline on the other end of the isle having fun.

Steve has a diaper wrapped around his head. Madeline is laughing really hard. Steve is making monkey moves and sounds. Madeline laughs even harder.

Janet walks towards Steve and Madeline. Steve sees Janet coming towards them and stops moving.

"Well, you two look like you're having so much fun," said Janet sarcastically.

"Hey, don't be mad at me. Dad made me laugh," said Madeline defending herself.

"Traitor," said Steve quickly and briefly.

Janet gives Steve a look.

"Sorry honey. We just got a little carried away," said Steve sounding apologetic.

"If you have time, can you come by and look at the cribs with me?" asked Janet in a strict manner.

"Ok," replied Steve who politely goes to Janet.

They start walking and Madeline follows behind.

Madeline looks up at Steve. Steve looks at Madeline and makes the same the monkey face at her. Madeline quietly laughs. Janet turns around and gives them a mean look. Steve and Madeline stop and look at her.

Steve, Janet, and Madeline drive down the street and arrive at Brandon and Kelly's.

"You see a parking space anywhere?" asked Steve.

"No…I guess we're really late" replied Janet.

"There's nothing here. I'll just circle around," said Steve.

"Alright, everybody keep an eye out for a parking space," said Steve.

"There's a parking space, dad," said Madeline.

"Where?" asked Steve looking.

"That one…but it has a car on it," joked Madeline pointing to the space. She's laughing.

Steve gives Madeline a mean look.

"Stop joking around, Madeline. We need to find an available spot to park our car," said Janet.

"Fine, I'm sorry," said Madeline.

Sometime goes by and we see Steve parking the car. Janet and Madeline are outside on the street.

"How's that?" asked Steve.

"A little closer," replied Janet.

Steve maneuvers the car forwards a little.

"Careful," said Janet.

"How's that?" asked Steve.

"Perfect," smiled Madeline.

Steve parks the car and gets out of it. He goes to Janet and Madeline and sees the results of his parallel parking job.

"Don't feel bad, dad. It's the effort that counts," said Madeline.

"Yeah thanks. But I just don't want to get a ticket," said Steve.

"Is there enough room for them to get out?" asked Janet.

"Yeah, they just need to get creative," replied Steve.

"Should we just try to find another spot?" asked Janet.

"Aren't we far enough already? We're like ten blocks away," said replied Steve.

Janet huffs.

"Fine. Let's go," said Janet sad.

"Ok," said Steve.

Steve opens the car. He sticks his head in and gets his jacket out.

He pulls out of the car.

"Honey, don't forget the presents," said Janet.

"Oh yea," said Steve who sticks his head back into the car and grabs a wrapped present and takes it out.

"Here," said Steve hanging Janet the box.

Janet has a confused look on her face.

"Where's the other one?" asked Janet.

"What other gift?" asked Steve.

"Steve, we bought 2 gifts," replied Janet who has a worried look on her face.

"Really? I only saw the box of diapers," replied Steve.

"There's also a diaper genie in there," said Janet.

"No, there's nothing else in the car," said Steve.

"Let me look," said Janet who slightly pushes Steve out of the way as she quickly makes her way into the car.

Janet starts to look around and checking under the seat.

"Anything?" asked Steve.

"No," said Janet still in the car.

"Maddy, did you see the other box?" asked Steve.

"No," said Madeline.

Janet gets out of the car.

"We must've left it at the store," said Janet.

"Don't worry about it; let's just go with this. One gift is better than no gift," said Steve.

"No, we need to go back and get it," said Janet.

"It's an hour away," said Steve.

"Plus we're already late," added Steve.

"Steve, all we have a box of diapers. That's going to make us look really bad," said Janet.

"And funny," smiled Madeline.

Steve quietly lets out a chuckle.

"Madeline!" said Janet.

Madeline has a scared look.

Steve goes and hugs Janet.

"Don't worry. We still have the gift card. If they don't like, we'll make it up to them somehow. They're just gifts. These are our good friends. They'll understand," said Steve.

Janet calms down and nods.

"Ok honey; let's go. We got a long walk ahead of us," said Steve to Madeline.

They start walking.

Brenda and Dylan are walking up the steps to Brandon and Kelly's.

"Let's just be nice, ok?" asked Brenda.

"You mean pretend that you don't want to spend time with me, yea, I can do that. I mean, that's how I feel anyway," replied Dylan.

"Dylan, don't do this to me. Not today. We need to be happy for Brandon and Kelly. It's their day. Let's try not to ruin it," said Brenda.

"It's their day? C'mon Bren, listen to you. It's their party but the world does not revolve around Brandon and Kelly," said Dylan.

"Dylan, you asked me if I want to get a hotel room with you before the party," said Brenda.

They arrive at the top of the stairs.

"Did I say anything about sex?" asked Dylan.

"What else are we going to do in a hotel room?" asked Brenda.

"We can talk," replied Dylan.

"You seriously think I'm going to believe that?" asked Brenda.

The door suddenly opens.

Brenda and Dylan see Silver and stops talking. They give Silver a smile.

"Hey guys. Sorry to interrupt but I figure it'll be better if you guys would rather duke it out inside instead," said Silver.

"No, it's ok. We're fine. It's nothing," said Brenda.

"Great then; c'mon in. Food and drinks are on the table. And the happy couple is somewhere in there," smiled Silver.

"Thanks," said Brenda as she walks in.

Dylan gives Silver a weak smile before walking in.

Jim and Cindy are walking to Brandon and Kelly's. They arrive in front of Brandon and Kelly's house.

"I'm glad we walked here," said Cindy.

"Yeah, this neighborhood always brings back such good memories, "said Jim.

"You think this time, we get to see our old house again?" asked Cindy.

"You bet. I thought it over while on the way here. I want to be here with you the entire time. Brenda's a big girl. She can take care of herself. Plus, I'm starting to want Dylan to be there for her. Maybe all they need is some time alone. We probably shouldn't get in their way," replied Jim.

Cindy smiles. They hug.

"What made you change your mind?" asked Cindy.

"Hey, if you can beat em, might as well join em," replied Jim smiling.

Coming Up Next – Everybody gathers at Brandon and Kelly's for a baby shower.

I hope everybody enjoyed this different (unique) chapter. To those missing Brandon and Kelly in this chapter, I did too. That's actually one of the reasons why it was eventually cut out. I promise that they will be back in the next one. Again, when I wrote this chapter, it was to focus more into the lives of the other characters from the show and see what they are up to. To me, it serves as a lead in to when they are at the baby shower.

Thanks!
