Chpt 62 - After the Birth (Push)

The screen is black as we hear a voiceover.

"Mrs. Kelly Taylor-Walsh. 33 year old female. Suffered a rupture while given birth a few minutes ago. Patient has miscarried before but had given a successful child birth 6 years ago. Although the patient is stabilized, she's suffered a large amount of blood loss after the rupture."

With his shirt disheveled, Brandon slowly walked out of Kelly's room and down the hallway. He almost made it to the waiting room until his phone vibrates. He takes his phone out and sees a text from Cindy.

He thinks for a moment before calling Cindy. He takes a deep breath.

"Hi mom," said Brandon.

"Hi Brandon. I didn't mean to interrupt anything. Is this a good time?" asked Cindy.

"Yeah, it's fine. Kelly just gave birth," replied Brandon.

"That's great! Oh Brandon; if your father and I don't say it enough; we're so proud of you," said Cindy with great joy.

"Thanks Mom," said Brandon in a sad tone.

"We'll see you soon," said Cindy.

"Hey Mom; I gotta tell you something...but please don't tell Sammy yet," said Brandon.

"Oh ok...what is it?" asked Cindy worried.

"Kelly passed out after giving birth," replied Brandon.

"Oh my god. Is she going to be ok?" asked Cindy.

"We don't know. There was a rupture and she lost a lot of blood while pushing during the birth," replied Brandon.

"Oh no; I'm so sorry, Brandon," said Cindy.

"I know...I can't believe this is happening," said Brandon.

"What do you want me to tell Sammy?" asked Cindy.

"Ummm...I can talk to him. Can you put him on?" asked Brandon.

"Yeah," said Cindy.

"Sammy, honey? Your dad wants to talk to you," said Cindy to a distance.

"Here he comes," said Cindy to Brandon.

Cindy hands the phone to Sammy.

"Hi Dad," said Sammy.

"Hey Buddy," said Brandon trying to act calm.

"Guess what?" asked Brandon.

"What?" asked Sammy.

"You're now a big brother," replied Brandon.

"Already?" asked Sammy sounding disappointed.

"Yeah, why?" asked Brandon.

"I wanted to be there to see her born. I missed it," replied Sammy.

"Oh, that's ok. The most important thing is that you be the best big brother your sister can ever have. Can you do that?" asked Brandon.

"Yes Dad, I can do that," replied Sammy.

"Thanks Sammy," said Brandon with a tear in his eyes.

"How's mom doing? Can I talk to her?" asked Sammy.

"Mom's fine. She's very tired and resting. You'll see her in a few hours," replied Brandon.

"Ok Dad," said Sammy.

"Thanks. Have a good time with Grandma and Grandpa," said Brandon.

"Ok. I Love You, Dad," said Sammy.

"I love you too, Sammy," said Brandon.

"Can you tell mom I love her?" asked Sammy.

"Yeah, I'll tell her as soon as she wakes up. Can I speak to grandma again?" asked Brandon.

"Ok. Bye Dad," said Sammy.

"Ok, Bye," said Brandon.

Cindy picks up the phone.

"Brandon?" asked Cindy.

"Hey Mom, can you actually stay with Sammy. Don't mention anything about Kelly to him," replied Brandon.

"Are you sure that's the best way of dealing with this?" asked Cindy.

"Just do this for me, please?" asked Brandon.

"Ok Brandon," replied Cindy.

"Thanks mom," said Brandon.

Brandon shuts off his phone and resumes his walk back to the waiting room. He arrives at the waiting room. Everyone gets up and looks at him with a smile. Brandon doesn't say anything right away.

"She's here," said Brandon.

Everyone cheers and crowds around Brandon and congratulates him with hugs.

"Thanks guys so much for being here," said Brandon in a sad mood but still trying to keep a straight face.

"What can I say? This is a tradition to bring people together," said Steve smiling.

"Yeah. You guys are so great in staying here and waiting all this time," said Brandon giving everyone a weak smile.

"What's wrong, Brandon?" asked Brenda.

"It's Kelly," replied Brandon who is getting a little teary eyed.

Everyone's smiles frowns as they wait for Kelly to say something.

Some time goes by and they're all sitting in the waiting room. Everyone is very quiet and not sociable.

"Where's David?" asked Brenda.

"He's outside on the phone," replied Donna.

"You guys are really busy, huh?" asked Brenda.

"Well yeah; I got my business. He's got his. We barely have any time for each other anymore," replied Donna.

"You gotta make time...at least to spend with Ruby," said Brenda.

"Well, I do. But David's always keeping us out of his business," said Donna.

"But you guys are ok, right?" asked Brenda.

"As ok as it ever is going to be. He didn't even want to come to the baby shower. Ruby walked over to

him on the plane and he practically yelled at her," said Donna.

"Oh no," said Brenda.

"It's been like this for a long time now. I mean, the last time where we were all so happy was at Brandon and Kelly's wedding," said Donna.

Brenda smiles.

"Yeah, that was such a happy day. I can't remember when I've seen Brandon so happy and we were all together," said Brenda.

"Yeah, think how things have changed," said Donna with a sad mood.

"Kelly's going to be alright. She's made it through so much in her life. She'll make it through this one," said Brenda.

"I hope you're right. It scares me when it'll come a time when she can no longer pull through," said Donna.

Brenda has a sad look. Donna looks at Brenda.

"Hey, can I tell you something…but you have to keep it between us?" asked Donna.

"Sure," replied Brenda confused.

"I didn't want to say this earlier to anyone but I can't stop thinking about it. Do you think Kelly got hurt because of the vibrator?' asked Donna.

"What vibrator?" asked Brenda.

"From Val. That was her gift," replied Donna.

"Seriously? That's so inappropriate," said Brenda.

"Well, that's Val for ya," said Donna.

"I mean if Kelly was single, then I could understand but you know," said Brenda.

"Yeah, well, Val had a reputation of ruining relationships. Plus, he sort of had a thing for Brandon," said Donna.

"I'm surprised she was so well-behaved at the wedding," said Brenda.

"She and Kelly did make up before she moved back to New York. It was probably a joke gift. I'm sure she didn't mean anything by it," said Donna.

"I mean, Kelly's not going to use that. It's practically an insult to Brandon," said Brenda.

"Well, here's my theory. I think that might be how Kelly got hurt," said Donna.

"What?" asked Brenda.

"It's just my guess. I don't know for sure. But I'm pretty sure Brandon caught her with that and while she was trying to hide it, she may have hurt herself," replied Donna.

"Donna, I don't believe it," said Brenda.

"It's just a thought," said Donna.

"Yeah well, I was the one who encouraged Brandon to go to Kelly. I know they just needed closure," said Brenda.

"Yeah, don't we all?" asked Donna.

"You and David will work things out," replied Brenda.

"Easily for you to say. You and Dylan are not stuck in a rut," said Donna.

"Oh, that may be so but Dylan's moving too fast for me," said Brenda.

"Oh…do tell," said Donna sounding intrigued.

"Well, we got back together a few weeks ago and everything was hot and heavy. And I was really into it," said Brenda.

"Oooo…sounds like you two are reliving your teenage years," said Donna.

Brenda smiles.

"That's what I thought. He was getting along so well with Abby. It seems as if he was trying to make up for the time he didn't get to spend with Sammy," said Brenda.

"So, what's wrong with that?" asked Donna.

"Nothing. It was great. Even my parents were impressed," replied Brenda.

"But then after a while, Dylan would change his mood and so would his personality. He got tired of taking care of Abby and want to spend time with only me without Abby," added Brenda.

"Well, that's normal. Everyone get sick of their kids every now and then. Besides, you really can't blame Dylan for being a guy," said Donna.

"Yeah, I get it. But Abby means everything to me right now. She means a lot more to me than Dylan," said Brenda.

"Where's he now?" asked Donna looking around.

"I don't know. I'm wouldn't be surprised if he's gone home already," said Brenda.

"He wouldn't do that before knowing Kelly was alright," said Donna.

"Ugh. I can't even think about him right now. I just want Kelly to wake up," said Brenda.

"Poor Brandon too. Look at him there. I'm going to go and talk to him," added Brenda looking at Brandon sitting the other side of the room.

"Ok," said Donna.

Brenda gets up and walks to Brandon.

"Hey, may I sit down?" asked Brenda.

"If you want," replied Brandon.

"Brandon, I'm sorry. But you know Kelly. She's been through so much. You know she's going to pull through," said Brenda.

"I hope so," said Brandon.

"Do you want to go and check on her?" asked Brenda.

"I can't. The doctor said that she's still being operated on," replied Brandon.

Brenda slowly takes Brandon's hand and holds it.

"Can I go see the new baby?" asked Brenda.

"Knock yourself out. Around the corner and down the hall," replied Brandon in a bad mood.

"Well, can you come with me? You know I can't tell which one is yours," asked Brenda.

"Umm…Sorry, I'm not in the mood to see her right now," replied Brandon.

"Brandon?!" said Brenda surprised to hear Brandon utter those words.

Brandon senses Brenda's shock.

"What?" asked Brandon angrily.

Brenda lets go of Brandon's hand.

"Don't talk about your daughter like that," replied Brenda.

"Look Bren, I'm not in the mood for saving graces right now. I'm going through a lot right now. So if you want to go see the baby, go right ahead. Her area is marked "Walsh." You can't miss her," said Brandon.

Everyone turns and looks at Brandon.

"I'm sorry, Brandon. But I didn't do anything. I was just trying to help!" said Brenda.

"You can't help me," said Brandon.

Brenda once again looks surprised by Brandon's response.

Later on, Dylan walks up to Brandon.

"Hey B, do you want take a walk with me? Maybe get some fresh air?" asked Dylan.

"No thanks, D. I got to stay here until I hear from the doctor," replied Brandon.

"C'mon. It'll just be a short walk around the building. We'll be back in a few minutes," said Dylan.

Brandon looks around and seeing everyone staring at him, which is making him feel uncomfortable.

"Umm...yeah…sure," said Brandon.

"Ok. Let's go," said Dylan.

They walk down the hallway.

Cut to outside, Dylan and Brandon are walking around the block.

"I'm sorry, I lost it in there," said Brandon.

"It's ok. That's why I got you outta there," said Dylan.

"Yeah. Thanks for that. But shouldn't we be getting back now?" asked Brandon.

"Soon…I got a place I want to show you. It's not far. C'mon," replied Dylan.

Brandon stops and has a confused look on his face.

"Just c'mon," said Dylan who is still walking.

Brandon walks and catches up to Dylan.

"So, what's this place you want to show me?" asked Brandon with a confused look.

"It's a surprise," replied Dylan.

A few moments go by and we see Dylan and Brandon sitting at a park bench. We see a few random people on the grass.

Dylan's looking at the distance. Brandon looks really aggravated and impatient with Dylan.

"Why did you bring me here?" Brandon.

"B, what did I say? Can't you just be quiet for a few moments of tranquility and solitude?" asked Dylan.

"Ok, you know what? I don't know what you're doing and why are you dragging me into this. But I have to go back," replied Brandon who gets up.

"Ok ok ok…All I ask is 5 minutes," said Dylan who gets up and grabs Brandon.

"For what?" asked Brandon.

"Just a talk between best friends," replied Dylan.

"Can't we talk back at the hospital?" asked Brandon.

"Not for this," said Dylan.

"5 minutes. I swear," added Dylan.

"Fine...but make this quick; whatever this is," said Brandon.

They sit back down.

"Brandon, if you can be anywhere right now, where would it be?" asked Dylan.

"Back at the hospital where Kelly is," replied Brandon.

"Ok, let me rephrase that. If Kelly weren't at the hospital, where would you like to go?" asked Dylan.

"Well, I was thinking about taking a trip somewhere with her after the party. But you know, now this happen. I mentioned it to her before she knew she was going to go into labor," replied Brandon.

"Yeah, I've been there with both Bren and Kel…" said Dylan.

Brandon turns and looks at Dylan.

"Good for you," said Brandon sarcastically who interrupted Dylan mid sentence.

Dylan notices Brandon's mood.

"If you'll let me finish, I was going to say that I've also been there alone. And as much as I love Bren and Kel, I had the best time when I was there alone," said Dylan.

"When was this?" asked Brandon.

"A few years ago. I was there for two months. Man, it was beautiful and each day was an adventure,"

replied Dylan.

"Sounds great. If Kelly and I do go, we'll send you a postcard," said Brandon.

Dylan gives Brandon a stern look.

"B, you're not getting my point here," said Dylan.

"You're right. I'm not," smirked Brandon.

"After all this clears over, you might find the time to go there and enjoy some solitude," said Dylan.

"You mean solitude with Kel, right?" asked Brandon.

"If that happens," replied Dylan.

"What? What are you saying?" asked Brandon.

"I'm just saying she's been through a lot," replied Dylan.

Brandon is silent for a moment.

"What do you know?" asked Brandon.

"I mean, think about it. She's been in and out of the hospital all her life. She's only human," replied Dylan.

"Take that back. She's going to be fine," said Brandon.

"I hope so," said Dylan.

Dylan gives Brandon a worried look.

"Dylan, I'm going to ask you this just once and whatever you're going to say, I'm going to take it. Do you know something that I don't know about Kelly?" asked Brandon.

"I was walking around the hall and I overheard one of the doctors talking saying that Kelly lost a lot of blood. It's really serious," replied Dylan.

"Is that all they said?" asked Brandon.

"They think the chance of her waking up is not good," replied Dylan.

"What?" asked Brandon with a scared look on his face.

"Brandon, I didn't say it. I only heard it," said Dylan.

"And you kept this from me. You could've told me this twenty minutes ago. Instead, you drag me here to keep me from my wife; who might not make it?" asked Brandon loudly.

"Look Brandon…calm down," said Dylan.

"No, I'm not going to calm down," said Brandon loudly.

Brandon starts to walk away. Dylan walks to him and grabs him from the back.

Brandon turns around and shoves Dylan.

"Get the hell away from me before I do something to you I'm going to regret!" yelled Brandon.

Dylan walks towards Brandon again.

"I mean it!" yelled Brandon.

"Ok," said Dylan who backs off.

Brandon looks at Dylan with a mean look. He turns around and runs off. Dylan stands and watches Brandon running away.

Brandon rushes back into the hospital. Everyone in the waiting room watches as he runs pass them. He runs down the hallway and goes to the door of Kelly's room. He turns the knob but it's locked. He peels through the window and sees a nurse attending to Kelly. He knocks on the door to get the nurse's attention.

The nurse doesn't come to the door. Instead she just looks at Brandon through the window. Brandon knocks on the door again. The nurse looks reluctant but walks to the door.

"Hi Mr. Walsh," said the nurse.

"Hi. How's Kelly doing?" asked Brandon trying to catch his breath.

"She's stabilizing," replied the nurse.

"Do you know where…eh the doctor who was operating on her is?" asked Brandon.

"Dr. Masser is with another patient. When I see him, I can tell him that you're looking for him," replied the nurse.

"Thanks. Is Dr. Long around?" asked Brandon.

"I'm sorry. I don't know where she is," replied the nurse.

"Well ok. Can you ask them to come in here? I can wait here," said Brandon.

"I'm sorry, Mr. Walsh. But we can't allow you in here without the doctor's consent," said the nurse.

"What? Why?" asked Brandon shocked and appalled.

"I don't know. I'm sorry. I'm just following my orders," replied the nurse.

Brandon looks really frustrated.

"She's my wife. Are you saying that I have to stand out here and watch her like this?" asked Brandon pleading with the nurse.

The nurse tries not to look at Brandon.

"Please? I'll be very quick," said Brandon.

"Ok, Mr. Walsh. But you'll need to be very quick and I'll need to be in the room with you," said the nurse.

"That's fine…thank you," said Brandon.

Brandon and the nurse go into the room.

Brandon walks up to Kelly and gives her a weak smile, hoping that she'll turn and look at him. She doesn't. A tear rolls down his cheek. He slowly takes Kelly's hand and holds it.
