Author's Note: Hello everyone. If you've really made it this far, all I can say is thank you! Thank you for reading. Thank you for commenting. Thank you for being a fan of Brandon and Kelly.
This chapter and the next chapter was originally one long chapter. Seriously, it was really long. I ended up cutting out some of the Dylan and Brenda scenes in the final version. But I wanted to give you guys the whole unedited version here. So, I tried my best to find a good cut off point between the chapters to make it 2 chapters. I hope you guys enjoy it!
Chpt 64 - I Don't Want to Leave – Part 1
The sun shines through the windows of Brandon and Kelly's living room window hitting Dylan in the face as he sleeps on the couch. He starts to stir and slowly wakes up. He takes a look around and remembers what happened yesterday. Some of the stuff from the baby shower is still left out.
He gets up and walks towards the bathroom.
Cut to after he leaves the bathroom, he walks passes Brandon and Kelly's guest room. He reaches for the knob but changes his mind before touching it. He starts to walk away but starts to hear Abigail crying inside the room. He listens to see if the crying goes away. It doesn't. He reaches for the knob and slowly opens it. He lightly taps the door as the door opens.
He peeks inside.
"Bren, is everything ok?" asked Dylan.
"Yeah. Everything's fine," replied Brenda.
Dylan fully opens the door and sees Brenda holding Abigail.
"Good morning," said Dylan.
"Good morning," said Brenda.
"How's Abby?" asked Dylan.
"She's ok," replied Brenda.
"How are you?" asked Dylan.
"I'm ok. How are you?" replied Brenda.
"Well, I was going to get breakfast for everyone. Or maybe we can all go to the Peach Pit once Jim and Cindy wakes up," replied Dylan.
"Ok. Sounds good," said Brenda.
Dylan gives her a weak smile and turns towards the door.
"You know you don't have to check with me. If you want to leave; just go," said Brenda getting annoyed.
Dylan turns around.
"Bren, I don't want to leave. I'm not leaving until everything is ok with Kelly...and with us," said Dylan.
Brenda has a more serious look on her face now. She puts Abigail down in the crib.
"I appreciate you coming to me. But there's too much stuff going on right now to talk about us," said Brenda.
"I wasn't. You were the one brought it up. Besides, you wanted to talk earlier. Why not now?" asked Dylan.
Brenda gives him a stare.
"Look, I know you're thinking about Kelly right now. So am I. So are all of us...but I don't want you to be mad at me because you think I can't commit," said Dylan.
"That's the first time you've ever admitted that to me," said Brenda.
"To be honest, that's the first time I think I've ever admitted that to anyone," said Dylan.
"How does it feel?" asked Brenda.
"Good to get it out of there. But not good that I have commitment issues. It makes me sort of hate myself," replied Dylan sort of joking.
Brenda smiles a little. Dylan sees this and he smiles too.
"So, are you we good now?" asked Dylan.
"What? No, we're not good, Dylan. You admitting that you can't commit is only admitting that you have a problem. What are you going to do to fix it?" asked Brenda.
"I don't know. But I'm going to listen to you more and be with you more," replied Dylan.
"You don't know?" asked Brenda.
"What?" asked Dylan.
"You just said; you don't know. Is that all?" asked Brenda.
"I just said that I will listen to you more and spend more time with you," replied Dylan.
Brenda doesn't say anything.
"What do you want from me?" asked Dylan looking frustrated.
"I don't know. I seriously don't know anymore," replied Brenda.
"What? You can say I don't know but I can't?" asked Dylan.
They both stay silent for a few moments.
"Dylan, we're too just different. I mean, when we were in high school, you were this guy who everybody wanted because you were popular. But I fell in love with you because I felt we both needed each other and wanted the same things in life. Through everything; good and bad; I still feel like I wanted you. Even at times when I'm unsure, I fell in love with the moment and the thought of being with you. At the time, neither one of us were ready to settle down. But now it's different. Because I have Abby. I have to put her priority first before everything else, even my own. I can't risk you leaving whenever we have a fight or drop everything and leaving Abby with my parents so we can go on vacation. I can honestly say that I've love you then...I've love you after then...and I still love you now. But we're both different people who wants different things in our lives right now," replied Brenda.
Dylan gives Brenda a few small nods.
He slowly turns around and walks out the door.
Brenda looks on with sadness.
Brandon is still sitting in the area outside of Kelly's room at the hospital. His phone rings and he picks it up.
"Hey Bren," said Brandon.
"Hey Brandon. How's Kelly?" asked Brenda.
"The same. But the doctor's optimistic that she'll wake up soon," replied Brandon.
"I can't believe you stayed at the hospital all night," said Brenda.
"It was fine. Was the guest room ok?" asked Brandon.
"Yeah, Abby and I slept comfortably," replied Brenda.
"Or at least Abby did. Me, not so sure," said Brenda.
"Why, what's wrong?" asked Brandon.
"Just Dylan and me," replied Brenda.
"What's wrong now?" asked Brandon.
"I can't go into it now. Everyone is waiting for me," replied Brenda.
"Why? Where are you going?" asked Brandon.
"Breakfast at the Peach Pit. Do you want me to meet us there?" asked Brenda.
"No, I'm ok. I want to stay here," replied Brandon.
"C'mon Brandon. It's just a quick breakfast. It'll do you some good to go outside," said Brenda.
"No, I'm ok," said Brandon.
"Well, do you want us to bring you anything?" asked Brenda.
"Thanks but no, I'm ok," said Brandon.
"You know if you come, it wouldn't be so awkward between me and Dylan there," said Brenda.
"I'm surprised he's even coming," added Brenda.
"Maybe because he gets to be with you?" asked Brandon.
"Oh please," replied Brenda.
"What's wrong with you two?" asked Brandon.
"Sorry, no time to explain...," replied Brenda.
"Also, if Dylan calls you, can you pretend like you know nothing about this?" asked Brenda.
"Bren, I do know nothing about this," replied Brandon.
"Great. Thanks! We'll come by after breakfast," said Brenda.
"Ok. See you soon," said Brandon.
"Bye," said Brenda.
"Bye," said Brandon.
Brandon hangs up the phone.
Jim, Cindy, Silver, Sammy, Brenda, Dylan, and Abigail are at the Peach Pit having breakfast.
Nat comes by.
"How's the food?" asked Nat.
"Great Nat. Food hasn't changed," smiled Jim.
"Even though everything else has," joked Nat.
Jim and Cindy laughs. Brenda gives a weak smile pretending to laugh.
"How's Kelly?" asked Nat.
"We don't know yet. She's still asleep," replied Silver.
"Oh, poor thing. I've been meaning to go over there to see her," said Nat.
"It's ok, Nat. We'll let you know when she's awake," said Brenda.
"Thanks. Is Brandon coming?" asked Nat.
"No, he's still at the hospital. He wanted to be there when Kelly wakes up," replied Cindy.
"Oh ok," said Nat.
"Should we bring something to him?" asked Cindy.
"Well he said he didn't want anything," replied Brenda.
"When did you talk to him?" asked Silver.
"Right before we came here," replied Brenda.
"Did he say anything about my mom?" asked Sammy.
"She's still hanging in there, Sammy," replied Brenda.
"How bout a megaburger and fries...just in case he changes his mind?" asked Nat.
"Sounds good," replied Brenda.
"Ok. Give me about 5 minutes," said Nat.
"Thanks Nat," said Brenda.
"Anytime," said Nat.
Nat notices Dylan is being very bitter and quiet.
"How are you doing, Dylan?" asked Nat.
Dylan looks at up at Nat.
"I'm hanging in there," replied Dylan and takes another sip of coffee.
Nat senses his tone.
"Ok then. Be right back," said Nat.
Nat walks away.
Brenda glares a little at Dylan.
"You could've been a little nicer…he's not the person you're mad at," said Brenda.
"Really? Tell me Bren. Who should I be mad at?" asked Dylan.
Jim and Cindy sense the tone between Dylan and Brenda.
"So…Everyone full?" asked Jim.
"Yes dad," replied Brenda turning to Jim.
"Did you enjoy your food, Sammy?" asked Cindy.
"Yeah, it's fine," replied Sammy in a sad mood.
"I know you're worry, honey. We'll go see your mom now," said Cindy.
"Ok. Thank you," said Sammy.
"Jim, can you pass me my wallet?" asked Cindy.
Jim turns and looks to the side for her wallet.
"Cindy, I got it," said Dylan who takes out his wallet.
"Oh no, Dylan. It's our treat," said Cindy.
"No, I insist. Please let me do this for you guys," said Dylan.
Brenda glares at Dylan.
Dylan takes out some money from his wallet and puts it on the table.
"If you'll excuse me, I'll have to go use the little boys room," said Dylan.
He gets up and walks away.
Jim and Cindy looks at Brenda.
"What?" asked Brenda.
"Don't you think you're a little too hard on him?" asked Cindy.
"No, I don't think so. Until he is willing to accept Abby into our lives, it's just not going to work between us," replied Brenda.
"He's trying really hard," said Cindy.
"Considering how he was like before, this is the first time, he's shown major commitment," said Jim.
"Then why do I feel so afraid of getting hurt?" asked Brenda.
"Because you're human, honey. I know you're scared because you're responsible for Abby now too and there's more risk involved. But love is always a risk. It's never a guarantee. All we can do is hope the other person is willing to work on the relationship as much as you do," replied Cindy.
"Thanks," said Brenda.
"I'm surprised you guys are so supportive of Dylan," added Brenda.
"Us too," joked Jim.
Cindy playfully hits Jim.
"While we don't always agree with your decisions with each other, we always have a special fondness for Dylan. He's like a son to us," said Cindy.
"Plus, he paid for breakfast," joked Jim.
Cindy playfully hits Jim again. Brenda laughs.
Nat comes back with a bag of food for Brandon.
"Ok. Here you go," said Nat handing the food to Cindy.
"Thanks Nat. Here's the money," said Cindy.
"Take it back. It's on the house," smiled Nat.
"Wow…gee…thanks Nat," said Jim.
"Think nothing of it," said Nat.
"Are you guys going to hospital now?" asked Nat.
"Yeah, why?" asked Brenda.
"Oh, nothing. If you can tell Brandon that I'll be there to visit Kelly soon; that'll be great. I just gotta wait for someone to cover for me," replied Nat.
"Will do. Thanks Nat," smiled Brenda.
"Thank you," said Nat.
Jim shakes Nat's hand. Cindy and Brenda each give Nat a hug.
Nat walks away.
Brenda goes to check on Abigail.
"Oh, Abby needs changing. Can I meet you guys in the car?" asked Brenda.
"Ok. Do you need any help?" asked Cindy.
"No mom, I got it. Thanks," replied Brenda.
"Ok honey. We'll meet you in the car," said Cindy.
Everyone gives one last goodbye wave to Nat before heading out.
Brenda takes Abigail and heads towards the restrooms. Dylan walks out of the bathroom at the same time.
"Hi," said Dylan.
"Hi," said Brenda.
Dylan gets a weird look on his face.
"What's that smell?" asked Dylan.
"What do you think?" asked Brenda holding Abigail.
"Oh sorry…do you want any help? I can change her," asked Dylan.
"No, I'm ok," said Brenda.
"You sure? I can do it. I've already been in there. I can just go back in," asked Dylan.
"Dammnit Dylan. Just get out of our way," said Brenda pushing Dylan out of the way to get into the restroom.
Dylan looks really frustrated.
Nat notices and walks up to Dylan.
"You ok, pal?" asked Nat.
"No," replied Dylan.
"But I am regretting coming to L.A. And I'm really regretting staying here for this long just so I can get pushed around," added Dylan.
"Give it some time. She'll come along," said Nat.
"I don't know how much time I've got. I'm losing time….and most of all, I'm losing my patience," said Dylan.
"Sorry to hear that," said Nat.
"Me too. If I don't see you soon, take care, Nat," said Dylan.
"You too," said Nat giving Dylan a weak smile.
Nat watches Dylan as he walks out of the door.
Brandon doesn't notice Steve walking in with coffee and bagels. He takes a seat next to Brandon. Brandon turns and looks at Steve.
"Morning Bran…How's Kelly doing?" asked Steve.
"About the same," replied Brandon.
"Steve, what are you doing here?" asked Brandon surprised.
"What do you mean? I'm here for you and Kelly," replied Steve.
"I thought you, Janet, and Maddy went home," said Brandon.
"We did. I had time this morning so I just drove here," said Steve.
"You didn't have to drive all this way. You could've just called," said Brandon.
"Hey, think nothing of it. We're best friends. I'm worried about Kelly too," said Steve.
Brandon looks at Steve while Steve is trying to give him a sincere look.
"Janet made you come, right?" asked Brandon.
"Yeah. She still feels bad about only getting you guys a pack of diapers. But she did let me drive my Corvette," replied Steve acting proudly.
"Very nice," said Brandon.
"Hey man; thanks for being here. I really need the support," added Brandon.
"Kelly's still in there?" asked Steve.
"Yeah. They're planning to run some tests on her today, hoping that they'll find something that might wake her up," replied Brandon.
"If it helps, whenever Janet is asleep, all I have to do is take off all my clothes, climb onto bed and lay there next to Janet. It works every time," smiled Steve.
Brandon giving her a serious look.
"Sorry. I know this isn't the right time," said Steve.
"Thanks. But for the record, if that would've work, I would be willing to try anything," said Brandon.
"I'm only saying," said Steve.
"Seriously; can't they just give her some kind of shock to wake her up?" asked Steve.
"I've already asked that. It might or might not work. But it could also affect her heart and possibly kill her," replied Brandon.
"Oh man," said Steve.
"She'll pull through, Brandon. She's done it many times before. She'll do it again," added Steve.
"Thanks Steve," said Brandon.
"Did you spend the night here?" asked Steve.
"Yes," replied Brandon.
"You slept here?" asked Steve.
"Yeah...but I didn't get much sleep though," replied Brandon.
"Who can? These chairs aren't meant for sleeping," said Steve.
"No, not that. I was busy talking with someone," said Brandon.
"Who? The doctor?" asked Steve.
"No, Kelly's nurse," replied Brandon.
"How long you talked for?" asked Steve.
"Just a few hours," replied Brandon.
"A few hours? What did you two talk about?" asked Steve.
"Just about Kelly and ourselves. It was nice," said Brandon.
Steve gives Brandon a look.
"Nice?" asked Steve.
"Yeah. Nice," replied Brandon.
"Brandon, anything aside from the subject matter at hand is going into uncharted territory," said Steve.
"Steve, if I you are thinking what I'm think you're thinking, I'm not even going to dignify that with a response," said Brandon.
"Ok then," said Steve who resumes sipping his coffee. He turns and looks at Brandon with a confused face from time to time.
Some time goes by and we see Brandon talking with doctor inside Kelly's room.
"We are making progress. We should see a lot more brain activity soon," said Dr. Long.
"Good. Do you know when that'll happen?" asked Brandon.
"In a few hours, I hope," said Dr. Long.
"Ok. Thanks," said Brandon.
"Is there anything else you want to ask me?" asked Dr. Long.
"Uh...no...,"replied Brandon.
"Ok then...we will keep updated," said Dr. Long.
"Now, if you'll excuse me. I have a few other patients to check on," added Dr. Long.
"Ok. Thanks doctor," said Brandon.
The doctor gives Brandon a smile and nod before walking away.
Teresa walks into Kelly's room. She is wearing her regular clothes.
"So, what's the update?" asked Teresa.
Brandon turns around and smiles as he sees Teresa.
"Oh. The doctor said Kelly could wake up in a few hours," replied Brandon.
"Oh, that's great news...my shift is over. Do you by any chance want to grab lunch outside somewhere?" asked Teresa.
"Oh; no, that's ok. I want to stay here when Kelly wakes up," replied Brandon.
"Ok, I understand," said Teresa who gives Brandon a weak smile and starts to walk away.
Brandon looks at Kelly and starts to rethink.
"Teresa, wait," said Brandon.
"Yeah, Brandon?" asked Teresa who turns and looks at Brandon.
"Where exactly do you want to have lunch?" asked Brandon.
"I dunno. Anywhere," replied Teresa.
"If I say yes, can we go close by and make it a quick one?" asked Brandon.
"Sure," smiled Teresa.
Brandon smiles as they walk to towards the elevator together. Brandon quietly closes the door behind him.
We see Kelly's hand starting to move a little and her eyes starts to open.
Brandon and Teresa are having lunch together at a restaurant.
"How's your sandwich?" asked Teresa.
"It's good. How's yours?" asked Brandon.
"Good," replied Teresa.
"So what do you want to talk about?" asked Teresa.
"I dunno," replied Brandon.
"What made you decide to finally get out of there?" asked Teresa.
"I dunno. I wanted to have lunch with you," said Brandon
"That's a good reason," smiled Teresa.
"Well, my friend did drag me outside yesterday because he wanted to prepare me for the worst," said Brandon.
"And what is the worst?" asked Teresa.
"That Kelly wouldn't make it," replied Brandon.
"Did you believe him?" asked Teresa.
"No, I didn't want to. I was just glad that he overheard wrong," replied Brandon.
Brandon looks at Teresa with a strange look. Teresa notices and gives Brandon a confused look as she chews his sandwich.
"What?" asked Brandon.
"Why did you ask me for lunch?" asked Brandon.
"Because I thought you were hungry?" asked Teresa.
"Be honest with me. Are you trying to give me some bad news?" asked Brandon.
Teresa stops eating her sandwich. She puts her sandwich down and gives Brandon a serious look.
"Brandon, I'm sorry. I know I should've come forth with this news earlier. I'm sorry," said Teresa.
"What?" asked Brandon who looks really worried.
"Brandon, I' m sorry to have to tell you this...but I think I should be the one...," said Teresa.
"Oh my god…what?" asked Brandon.
"You have to take a shower," replied Teresa.
"What?" asked Brandon confused.
"You stink," replied Teresa.
"That's it?" asked Brandon.
"Not the answer I was expecting but yea," replied Teresa
Brandon takes a sniff at his shirt.
"I don't stink, do I?" asked Brandon.
Teresa starts to laugh.
"You made me think that you had some bad news about Kelly?" asked Brandon.
"I never said it was about Kelly. You just assumed," argued Teresa laughing.
"Well...," said Brandon befuddled.
"Well what?" asked Teresa acting like she's won the argument.
"Well, um...you're a horrible nurse," replied Brandon.
"Ouch!" joked Teresa laughing.
"Ok, you got me good...so what's the lesson here?" asked Brandon.
"No lesson; geesh, what does everything always have to be a lesson with you?" asked Teresa.
"I dunno. I thought there's a point to this," replied Brandon.
"Ok. How about you tell me more about yourself?" asked Brandon.
"Ooooo...so I guess this is you getting back at me for asking me about you last night," replied Teresa joking.
"Ok, fine...if you don't want to talk about it, we don't have to," said Brandon.
"No, I'm just kidding...what do you want to know?" asked Teresa smiling.
"Well, you've told me about you and your family. Are you seeing anyone?" asked Brandon.
"Mmm...I think we've already exhausted that subject," replied Teresa.
"I don't mean to upset you. I know that losing your husband was very difficult. I just feel bad that someone as wonderful as you don't date," said Brandon.
"Well, I have my reasons," said Teresa.
"And they're all very valid," said Brandon.
"So what kind of point are you trying to make here, Brandon?" asked Teresa.
"What does everything with you have to have some kind of point?" asked Brandon.
"Brandon, if you're trying to get back at me for earlier, you're doing a terrible job," laughed Teresa.
"Now that I'm thinking about it. You're right. Sorry for being a jerk," replied Brandon.
Teresa laughs.
"No, you're not a jerk. You just feel sorry for me and want to do something about it," said Teresa.
"How you'd know?" asked Brandon.
"You're a good guy, Brandon. In fact, even though we've only met last night, you're the most interesting man, I've met in years. Kelly's very lucky to have you," replied Teresa.
"And I'm very lucky to have her," said Brandon.
Teresa smiles at Brandon.
Brandon's phone is ringing. He answers it. (We can't hear the other end of the conversation).
"Hey Bren," said Brandon.
"Oh ok. I'll be right there. Thanks," said Brandon.
Brandon look at Teresa who looks at him while chewing on her sandwich.
"What?" asked Teresa.
"Kelly's awake," replied Brandon giving Teresa a weak smile.
To be continued….
