Chapter 5

"I'm glad you remembered our deal, Snowkit."Pantherstar purred.

"Of course I remembered! I want to be the best warrior in Thunderclan!"Snowkit exclaimed.

Pantherstar smiled. "Good. Now let's start with something simple. I brought someone to help demonstrate the first move you'll learn."

Almost on cue, a muscular gray tabby tom with white paws appeared from the trees and padded beside Pantherstar.

"Snowkit, this is my half-brother, Hailstorm."

Hailstorm dipped his head, his green eyes staring intently at her. "Half-brother?"Snowkit asked.

"Our father had two different mates."

"Isn't that breaking the warrior code?"she asked.

"It is,"Hailstorm meowed. "But because our father was such a great warrior that Starclan forgave him."

"Enough talking! You're here to train."Pantherstar snapped. "Hailstorm and I will show you the move and then you'll try it on me so pay attention."

Snowkit nodded and sat down, watching them attentively. Pantherstar turned to his half-brother and moved into a battle crouch as Hailstorm did the same and they circled each other, eyes narrowed to slits.

Suddenly, Pantherstar darted forward. Hailstorm ducked away from his jaws but, before he could turn to face his half-brother, Pantherstar bowled into him, digging his claws into Hailstorm's flank and placing his back legs on his belly, forcing Hailstorm to fall on his flank.

They stayed that way for a moment to catch their breath before Pantherstar got off him.

"That is the move you'll learn,"he told her.

Snowkit was horrified.

"I thought we're supposed to train with our claws sheathed?"

"In Starclan, we do not train with claws sheathed. If you want to be a great warrior then you must fight like one."Pantherstar stated firmly.

Snowkit wasn't so sure as she watched the blood drip from Hailstorm's pelt.

He's a Starclan cat so he must be right she told herself.

"Now,"he said. "Practice that move on me." She crouched, focusing solely on Pantherstar as he growled at her and they circled each other.

Then Pantherstar darted forward.

Acting fast, Snowkit ducked away from his jaws then turned around and lunged towards him but he swiped at her jaw so viciously that she fell to the ground, pain shooting through her face. She tasted the blood on her muzzle and winced.

"You were too slow. Use your hind legs to propel yourself forward faster." He ran towards her then turned his body and used his hind legs to push off, landing a tail-length away from her in one leap. "Keep in mind to keep your strength in your hind legs in check otherwise instead of charging into your enemy, you'll go over them or land in front of them."he added.

Snowkit nodde then got into position once again. Pantherstar circled her then lunged at her again.

Snowkit ducked underneath his jaws, turned then used her hind legs to push herself forward into his flank. She wasn't able to push him off his feet like he did with Hailstorm but he did sway on his paws.

"That was better."Pantherstar meowed.

"A bit more training and you'll have the move down."Hailstorm praised.

Snowkit smiled happily at the praise.

"Now try that move on Hailstorm. You'll need to practice moves on bigger opponents."Pantherstar ordered.

Snowkit glanced at Hailstorm, noticing that while he and Pantherstar were roughly the same size, Hailstorm had more muscle on him.

This will be a challenge she thought.

Nonetheless, she crouched and snarled at him as they circled each other, Hailstorm muscles rippling underneath his pelt as he lunged towards her. Snowkit ducked underneath his jaw, turned and used her hind legs to push forward into his flank.

It felt like diving straight into a rock but she managed to get the move down.

"Well done Snowkit. Continue training like that and you'll be a warrior in no time."Hailstorm stated.

Snowkit purred at the praise but Pantherstar glared at his kin.

"Now is not the time to praise her like a mouse-brain queen!"he snapped.

Hailstorm lowered his head as he muttered,"Sorry."

Pantherstar nodded then turned back to Snowkit. "You executed the move well enough but you lack the strength to do much with."

"I'm a kit and he's a warrior! I'd hardly be able to leave a scratch on him!"Snowkit exclaimed incredulously.

She didn't even see him move before a paw roughly cuffed her underneath her muzzle, causing Snowkit to topple over and fall on her back.

"Do not ever give up that easily on something again! If you truly want something, then you must fight for it until your last breath!"Pantherstar said.

Snowkit stumbled to her feet. "Yes Pantherstar."she muttered, licking her ruffled fur.

He watched her intensely for a moment before nodding. "Good. Well, that'll be all the training for today. We'll meet again tomorrow."

The darkness swarmed around her just as the two warriors disappeared.

Author's note: Hey guys! Been awhile since I've been here hasn't it? Well, after graduating high school and going into college, it's been a wild ride for sure. Now regarding this story, I haven't abandoned it but updates on it will be slow due to college and my interest in Warriors not as strong as it once was.
