On the Wings of A Hawk 10

Rex looked around in confusion wondering how he'd gotten to Moira's home world without her help. Looking at the Goddess statue for a moment he stalked down the stairs to the training ground. He found her in the midst of training but she wasn't wearing her normal clothing. She was fighting in tight pants and tank top. Her hair was in a loose braid instead of the tight braid she normally wore in battle. Something was wrong but he couldn't lay his finger on what it was. She paused in mid exercise and looked at him over her shoulder. Her wings flapped a couple times before folding again and turned to face him. Her head cocked to the side. For some reason he smirked at the image that came to his mind in her wolf form like that tilting her head to the side like that.

"What are you doing here Rex?"

"I don't… I don't know."

She smiled softly and shook her head at him. Something flashed out of the corner of his eye. Turning his head just in time to see a white winged creature shift and slam her hand through Moira's chest making her gasp. Blood was dribbling down the corner of her mouth. She was struggling to breath around the hand. Her wings darkened faster than he could blink. He gasped as if he'd been hit in the chest.

"Run!" she managed to gasp out before her body went limp.

The woman behind Moira gave him a malicious grin. She let Moira drop and stalked towards him covered in blood.

"My One," she purred.

Rex woke with a sudden gasp. He was about ready to sit up in a rush but a hand on his chest stopped him. His muscles uncoiled knowing who it was that held him. She'd just saved him from an even bigger headache than he already had.

"Easy Rex," he heard her say from the darkness.

He reached up and touched his pounding head. The pain was almost blinding and hoped he'd be able to open his eyes enough to be able to see her.

"What are you doing here?"

"Considering the amount of emotional duress that dream put you through…"

A soft groan escaped him at the implications of what she just said.

"You can feel that too?"

"Yes, but only to an extent. Granted that'll be stronger if the bond is ever completed."

"Did I yank you from a fight again?"

"No," she murmured. "Clan garbage that I really don't want to deal with, but seeing how our Clan ranks I have to be there sometimes. I'd rather be out in the middle of space or a battle with you."

Moira moved her hand so he could sit up. Shaking her head she leaned forward and brushed her thumbs across his temples and focused to ease the hurt in his head. Shaking off the effects she looked into his eyes.

"What was that?"

"Bit of healing. Wanna talk about your dream?"

He turned his gaze away from hers. Rex being a soldier had seen terrible things but this dream shook him like nothing else he'd ever seen. He could see something in her eyes but he couldn't tell what he was seeing.

"I don't want to…"

"Rex no matter what you tell me I'm not going to bolt at what you say. You're my One after all."

She clicked on a small light on his nightstand so he could look at her. Her eyes were telling him to trust her with this and he did. Though it was just a dream and unsettled him that much.

"We were at the temple training grounds. I don't know how I got there. You were training. A woman…"

He started as she moved further into the light seeing what she was wearing.

"Rex?"

He shook his head.

"You were wearing what your wearing now and she comes up behind you and drives her hand through your chest. You tell me to run and she called me her One."

Moira shot up and backed away from him with her wings fanned out. She looked like she was fighting the urge to shift, run or go kill someone. There wasn't a panic about her but there was something there. Almost as if this dream woman was a real person or something.

"Moira?"

"White wings tipped in gold and red?"

"Yes and she had a form that looked like a cross between a wolf and a cat."

"A fox, she's a winged fox."

"She's actually…"

"Yes, and if you see her do as I said and run."

"She called me her One…"

Moira wouldn't look at him which set him on edge right at that moment. The charm around his neck was pounding and it wasn't red hot but it was warm. Something wasn't right.

"Just if you ever see her just run Rex. Don't try to reason with her or fight her. Just run."

Before he could ask anything else she vanished. He sat there a minute not knowing what had just went down.

Days later saw him back on the battlefield. He was worried about Moira since he'd rarely seen her so worked up like that. A familiar flash of mint green had him pausing only for a second. It wasn't his One. Though, Kali was similar. She decimated a group of droids before turning her gaze to him.

"Where is she?"

"She's alright Rex I promise."

"What happened…"

Kali sighed softly as her wings flexed and settled on her back.

"What you told her shook her."

"That woman exists?"

"Yes, she does."

"Why did she call me her One?"

Kali looked at him with eyes that were telling him what he didn't want to hear or know. Though, he needed to know what he was up against in this woman and what really set Moira off about the woman.

"She also is your One."

"Another One?"

"It doesn't happen often."

"I don't understand I thought it was what it says it is. There is only one person that can be your One."

"Like I said it doesn't happen often. This is only the second time in all the seven hundred years I've been alive."

"So that woman I saw is my dreams is my One too?"

"Yes, but let me warn you here and now Rex. She isn't like Moira. She's vicious, mean and cruel."

"Does she know I'm her One?"

"Yes."

"Then why hasn't she made a move yet? In actuality it doesn't even make sense to me."

"What part of cruel do you not understand? She's not attached to you like Moira is. She'd use the connection to break her by harming you or even flat out killing you which would cripple Moira if not outright kill her."

The entire thing was setting him on edge. He didn't realize how easy it would be for an enemy to get to her through him. That kind of vulnerability in her, unsettled him.

"I thought Moira said that your kind couldn't harm their One."

Kali sighed softly. Then Rex realized there was so much he didn't know about Moira's Clan or anything of a personal nature about his One.

"It's true that a true One cannot harm the one for whom they are destined, but there are times that our kind cannot accept the One they're bound to by fate. She will kill you if given the chance."

"Now, now Kali you shouldn't be spreading lies about me."

Kali moved to stand in front of Rex with her wings fanned out. "This is between my One and myself Kali so see yourself out of here and go bother your One."

"He's not yours. Moira has chosen Rex and Fate has chosen him for her."

"But has he chosen her?" the woman taunted. "Moira's wasting her time, I will own this one before it's over."

"Over my dead body," Kali snapped.

"That can be arranged Kali and I'd be even more ecstatic to take it over his."

Ajax and another clan member landed in front of him too. Their wings fanned out and their sabers were out ready to fight. The other woman had metallic looking green feathers tipped in blue and purple.

"So you called in backup how unlike you Kali."

"Rex is family and under the protection of the Aras Clan regardless if his chooses to stay with Moira or not."

She snorted at their words.

"No Clone will ever be worthy enough to bare the name of our clan. Or even worthy to carry on the line. Breeding with him will dilute our powerful blood line."

Rex was about ready to say something when running drew his gaze to some of his men moved to stand beside him.

"Stay back. This is a clan dispute."

"Captain…" Jesse started.

"Do as I say!"

"They all look alike how could she possibly pick him out," the woman taunted.

Before Rex could even remotely say something Kali moved into a fighting stance.

"Someone like you could never understand what it means to be a true One to someone."

"My choice was taken from me," she snarled angrily. "No one in our ranks should ever want to be the One to a clone. One who looks like so many others and have no value outside the battlefield even if it's a small measure at that."

"A True One can tell the difference, Isra."

The Rex realized something Kali, Ajax and the other woman were moving in such a way that it seemed as if they were waiting on something to happen. Something heavy landed behind him and he knew who it was. Reaching up he took off his helmet to face his One. There was a sadness about her that made something twist inside of him. She should never have to look this sad.

"Moira…"

She stepped forward and reached up to run her bare hand across his cheek gently. Turning his head he leaned into her gentle touch.

"Rex…" she started softly.

She murmured something in her language that made his heart twist. After she gave him the pad with her language on it he studied it when he had a free minute. The first thing he'd looked up was the phrase for 'I love you' and 'king'. She'd been telling him all this time that she loved him and he was her king and he hadn't understood. Before he could reply to what she'd said to him she grabbed a fist full of his armor and yanked him down into a kiss. Pulling back she gave him a sad look and let him go. She flashed away and leapt for the other woman. They vanished in a clash of light and sound. A grunt escaped him as if something had slammed hard in his chest knocking the wind outta him for a moment. Then the woman that he didn't know with the green wings rushed over and started checking him over muttering in Moira's language.

"My language please," he murmured.

The woman flushed.

"My apologies Rex. I was just making sure that Isra didn't hurt you."

"No she didn't."

The woman looked at Kali worriedly.

"Kali I've never seen a bond this strong."

"I know."

Rex wondered what they were talking about. The sound of a battalion of droids stomping their way towards them broke up the little pow wow. The three of the Aras Clan moved to stand amongst the Clones and the Jedi to drive back the droid army.

Rex sat down heavily on a rock. He sat his helmet down beside him and took a deep breath. Soft footfall made him look up. He was disappointed to see Kali instead of his true One.

"Where is she?" he asked.

"We don't know Rex. Where ever they went even Ajax couldn't follow."

"Is it possible that she…"

"If she were you'd be the first one to know Rex."

That answer startled him.

"How's that?"

"You'd feel it."

"I don't understand."

"Even though the bond isn't completed Rex you and she can feel each others' pains. So if Moira had failed to protect you from her you'd be the first to know."

Then he'd known that Moira could feel his pain and emotional duress, but he didn't think it was vice versa.

"I don't…"

"Don't try to wrap your head around this Rex. If we find her we'll let you know."

"If something has happened to her how will I know?"

"Physical pain maybe but I'm not sure completely on that one," Kali murmured softly. "But the necklace will let you know."

He reached up and laid his hand over his chest where the pendant rested. "Just soldier on Rex. We'll let you know if we find something."

He nodded his head and Kali turned and walked to Ajax's side. The two of them vanished. Then he noticed the change in temperature in the charm around his neck. It turned arctic cold then nothing. His heart clenched hoping beyond hope that she was alright out there.

"Come on Captain we have to move," he heard one of his brother call.

"I'm coming."

Putting on his helmet he stalked after his brothers not knowing what the rest of the day would bring. There was the small hope it wouldn't be death.
