On The Wings of A Hawk
Chapter 13
Disclaimer: Dont own star wars...
Moira growled softly as she paced back and forth irritably. Her ears were laid back and her tail was thrashing back and forth. Something was wrong, but she couldn't do anything about it. The pinched feeling between her shoulder blades kept reminding her what had been done to her. Though what got her really going was she couldn't get to Rex. In anger she swiped at a tree leaving gouges in the wood. The suffocating feeling of being caged wrapped around her.
"You know pacing back and forth like that isn't going to make that feeling go away."
A soft growl escaped her in mid step as she looked at the Goddess leaning against the wall. The Goddess's wings fanned out. Ignoring her she continued to pace. "You know what this is Moira, why are you still here? Besides you're irritating me pacing like that."
"Then why are you here watching me?" she snarled.
"I always have my eye on you. And here I thought I was common knowledge."
She smirked and stalked forward. Moira's hackles stood on end her and teeth were bared. The Goddess backhanded her into the nearest wall. Grunting softly she rose up and shook off the rubble and dirt. "I chose you Moira because of your strength, and the strength you two display together."
Moira's wings fanned out slowly to make sure they weren't broken. A threatening rumble started in her chest at the Goddess's teasing.
"You think I want to be standing here?" she snapped.
"I didn't think you of all of our kind would ignore…"
Moira snarled darkly. The Goddess moved forward and yanked her by the ear and slammed the front half of her body on the ground. Moira let the anger fade away as the Goddess stood there holding her down. Closing her eyes she knew she couldn't lie to the Goddess.
"I can't focus correctly. My last mission someone of the Clan went after me and jumped me here and I've been trying to get to Rex."
The Goddess moved to take the dart out. She inspected it carefully. Her eyes narrowed at the sight of it. The etching on the metal told all to her.
"This is a declaration…"
"Yes I know what it means."
"Suppressing abilities like this is forbidden unless there's a dire need to do it."
"They wanted to make sure I couldn't go help Rex."
"Rex is a warrior foremost Moira."
"I know he'd survive without me, but I want to walk beside him even if the entire clan thinks I'm a traitor. I will always have a target on my back being bound…"
"Not bound yet in the right way."
"Kali told me I should tell him about that, but instinct is telling me not yet."
"Don't wait too long Moira. He's just a Clone."
Moira snarled darkly at the Goddess. "I meant no offense, but being what he is and his job in life it's not as long as yours will be barring someone kills you..."
"I got it!" she snarled.
The Goddess rolled her eyes and flicked her hard in the forehead.
"Focus and get lost."
Moira felt the power rush through her and she was able to shift back to her human form and flexed her wings. As per habit she started checking her sabers. Once they were inspected she clipped them back to her sides.
"I do not understand why you help me…"
"I am a Goddess you do not question me."
She snorted at the older woman's words. Then shifted back to her wolf form. A ripple went through her making her growl softly. Gold melted into red as her muscles bunched ready for the leap.
"Remember what I said Moira…"
She snarled at the Goddess before she jumped. Her paws landed heavily on some kind of squid looking ship that droids were piling out of. Rex's scent was there but not strong enough that he was in the vicinity of where she landed. She started sliding down the slick sides. Shifting in mid slide she drew her sabers and came down hard on two droids driving her sabers through them. Standing up slowly from her crouch started slashing through droids like butter. Fire licked across her sides from one of the droids stray blaster shots. With a snarl she helped the Clones beat back the droids as the Jedi took on General Grievous and Ventress. Moira sighed softly as the Clones took over the rest of the clean up. A few of the Clones recognized her and threw thanks and greetings at her. She just dipped her head at them as they passed her. A soft tap on her shoulder made her look to see a familiar helmet but she smirked softly.
"Hey Jesse," she said softly.
"You always manage to show up just in the nick of time."
"I try."
"If you're looking for the Captain he's over there with Cody."
A curt nod was her only response and Jesse made his retreat. Her wings flexed as she turned to see Rex with Cody and the others of the 501st. Taking a deep breath seeing him unharmed eased the strain in her body. Her wings fanned out. Rex looked her way. She tilted her head to the side and jumped. She landed on a familiar balcony. She stood there watching the ocean rage. A calm washed over her standing there allowing the wind to ruffle her feathers and hair. Taking in the sea air she allowed herself to be lost to her thoughts. She couldn't help the memories that came. A smile graced her features as she remembered the last time she stood on this balcony.
Rex looked around wondering where his wayward One went to. She'd let him know she was there even though he could feel it. 99's death had hit most of the older clones hard knowing that even in his deformity he was one of them and went down on the field of battle like a true soldier. Shaking that depressing thought off his mind shifted to Moira the charm around his neck warmed a bit knowing that she was thinking about him too. A memory hit him and a smile crossed his features as he headed for a place that he knew she'd probably be. As he moved to the balcony where they first met, she was standing on the railing. Her long hair wasn't in its normal braid and fluttered wildly in the wind. He took his helmet off and tucked it under his arm and took in the scene before him. She adjusted her wings every couple minutes as the wind whipped by her.
"Seems like dejàvu doesn't it?" he murmured."Almost like we've come full circle."
"Something like that."
She seemed off to him and that concerned him. He knew she had a lot on her mind and so had he, but this wasn't normal for her. He took a step towards her.
"Is something wrong?" he asked her softly.
She looked at him over her shoulder for a moment and looked back out over the sea. Right at that moment he knew his One enough to know that something was really wrong. The thought of asking her again if something was wrong crossed his mind, but she beat him to it.
"One of my clan members used the serum that is essentially a poison that is used to suppress the abilities of our clan. They poisoned me in my wolf form. So I was trapped in my wolf form without the ability to shift or jump. I was angry and restless and the need to come to you was so strong."
He watched her for a moment. In knowing her as he did he had to say something.
"But that's not what's really bothering you."
"The Goddess reversed it so I could come here and help."
Something about the entire thing didn't make sense to him. He'd seen her clan mates come to help her before but it was almost like they abandoned her this time.
"No one would help you?"
"They left me at the temple and it's not close to any of the cities of the planet. No one goes there but me. There are very few in the Clan that would help me willingly."
"Moira… what is really bothering you?"
He took a couple steps closer to her. She let out a heavy breath. Whatever it was, was weighing on her heart heavily.
"The Goddess and Kali both told me I need to tell you about the bond that Ones can form between each other."
"I thought we…"
She smiled half heartedly.
"We have a bond but we don't have THE bond. It's a bond that binds us completely. Like your life would match mine."
"That doesn't sound too bad…"
"If one dies the other follows."
"You're hesitating on telling me everything."
"I'm a creature that depends on my instincts to guide me. I want this bond with you so much but something is telling me to wait. I don't know why or what's causing my hesitation…"
"For what?"
"I don't know."
"Moira…"
"You are my One Rex the one person in the entirety of the worlds and galaxies combined that I want to spend the rest of my life with. I want a family with you. I want to marry you."
A blush dusted the bridge of his nose at her words then something occurred to him.
"I thought at the most someone could have of your clan's gifts were two but not all three?"
She dipped her head to try and hide her smile.
"Leave it to you to figure that one out. It comes and goes which means its not exactly a complete gift, but I don't advertise that I have it at any rate."
"Why didn't you tell me? Not that it matters."
"Something bad is coming Rex and even though I want that bond with you…"
She reached up and blood was sliding from her nose. Wiping it away she smiled at him anyway.
"Have you seen this bad?"
"Not the way Kali can see it, but I've seen enough to know it's not going to be good."
He started as he realized what she'd said. The thought of marrying her and having a family with her made him think about Cut and his little family. Maybe after the war he could have that with her.
"Moira…"
She leapt for him and he had to drop his helmet to catch her. Her arms wrapped around his neck and her wings fanned out to surround them. His arms came up to crush her against him so she didn't fall. He rested his forehead against hers.
"I love you," she murmured softly.
He leaned down and kissed her softly. Pulling back he rested his forehead against hers.
"Whatever it is your worried about we can talk about it later."
H reached up and brushed his thumb across her cheek gently.
"Rex I…" she started.
His com started beeping. Rex moved enough so he could hit the button. Moira thumped her forehead against Rex's shoulder with a groan of annoyance. That made Rex chuckle.
"Go ahead, General."
"Where are you Rex we're getting ready to leave?"
"I'll be there in a minute."
He hit the com button again. Moira nipped at his neck softly making a shiver run down his spine.
"He has the worst timing," Moira grouched.
"That he does. Tell me later what it is you wanted to say Moira."
She nodded her head and leaned up and brushed her lips across his again. He stepped back. Moira turned and leapt up on the railing and spread her wings then vanished with a rush. Rex shook his head and smiled softly. A feather fluttered to the ground and lay next to his helmet. Reaching down he froze. On his hand there was blood from when he'd touched her back. A soft curse escaped him knowing she'd been hurt in the defense of his brethren. Putting his helmet on her went to rejoin the Generals. In his mind he kept turning over and over the things she'd told him about the bond that she wanted.
