"So, you'll see a therapist?" He asked me after a moment.
I pulled away slightly to stare at him before nodding, dubiously. "Only if you promise to explain to me what you said. Am I really your wife? Do we really have kids? How many do we have?" I asked, biting my lip.
Anxiously awaiting to hear about everything.
My head felt like it was full of cotton, and every time I tried to remember the side of my head hurt.
Though something about what he said made me feel hopeful. At least now, I knew that though I didn't remember, someone else was here to help me remember.
That I wasn't doing this alone.
He gave me a gentle smile as he wiped my face with the back of his hand. "Yes, we've been married for eight years now, doll. We have two kids, a boy and a girl, who just turned two years old a few months ago. They miss you like crazy…" he softly said, with a smile.
I smiled back, touching his face lightly, so as not to hurt him. "Do they really?" I asked, with a hopeful smile.
"They do. We all do. With no one here to snip at us throughout the day, it just hasn't been the same. Hell, even Stark lost his zing." He said, smiling.
I smiled in response, reaching up to touch his face again, only for my hand to drop back on my lap.
Wincing, as I realized he might not want me to be touching him.
"You won't hurt me…" he said.
"It's not that…. It's just that I— it's just I don't want you to be —" I began, looking away, before he scoffed, and pulled my chin up with his cool metal fingers.
"I would never be disgusted by you touching me. I love you…" He said, staring at my eyes before his eyes flickered down to my lips.
'God, it's been so long since I held her in my arms. I never knew how much I missed her being there until now…' He thought.
I bit my lip, before turning away, suddenly feeling flushed. "I can hear your…" I began.
"Thoughts?" He asked, smiling at me.
I nodded, wordlessly as I dropped my hand on my lap.
"Then you should know what I am feeling is true…" He whispered.
I sighed, "You shouldn't have broken the cell. I am still a potential danger to all of you. It isn't safe to be around me." I said, looking up at him.
He shook his head at me sadly. "If push comes to shove, I'll stop you myself. You don't have to worry about hurting us, I'll always be here to help you." He said with a sad smile.
"I hope you can keep that promise when I am in full attack mode." I whispered.
"Please doll, I helped train you the first time." He scoffed.
I raised a brow smirking at him as he stared at me. "Really? So, you can stop me then?" I asked, dubiously, biting my lip down to stop me from smirking.
He nodded vehemently.
"Alright. Let's see." I said moving off of his lap.
He smirked before gesturing for me to proceed. Disbelief coloring his features.
I nodded, taking a deep breath before walking further away from him. "Catch me." I whispered.
He stared at me confused, before standing up and moving towards me.
As he slowly approached me, I transported myself across the room leaving him grasping air. "You were saying?" I asked, with a raised brow.
He groaned, "I forgot about that little trick of yours."
"Right … Well, go on. Catch me. I won't leave this room." I promised, as I moved again this time sitting on the desk on the far wall.
His eyes narrowed at me before he charged at me once more.
We continued this little game until he began to get frustrated. He stopped in the middle of the room, looking at me annoyed.
"You were saying?" I asked, raising a brow as I crossed my arms over my chest.
"How long did it take you to be able to control that?" He asked, his breathing slightly labored.
"A while, at first I would get exhausted using it, and black out, but while I was locked up, and in between missions, I would get bored and need something to do. So, I started training myself on how to control all of my powers." I explained with a shrug.
No one bothered me, because I was always in a bad mood or angry. So, it made things easier for me when I was alone, people feared me, so it made things easier.
"So, you can control all of them now?" He asked, wide-eyed.
I nodded. "All except one." I whispered, looking down to hide my nervous expression from his eyes.
I had a feeling he knew which one I was talking about, but I wasn't really in the mood to talk about that especially when I had the distinct feeling that he would worry, possibly freak out if I told him.
"Which one?" He asked, trying to get me to look into his eyes.
I shook my head, swallowing thickly as I stared down at our feet. "It's not something, you need to worry about…"
He sighed before nodding in response, and walking towards me, pulling me into a hesitant hug.
"You probably should head out, check on those kids." I mumbled against his chest, inhaling the smell of his cologne, allowing it to comfort me.
He sighed, slowly pulling away. "I'll be back to check on you tomorrow, alright, doll?" He said, kissing my forehead.
I smiled, before looking away to hide my blush. "I'll be waiting here…" I replied, softly. "James, can you—? Do me a favor?" I asked, as he began to turn and leave.
"Sure, doll, anything you want." He replied with a small smile.
"Give them a big hug for me…" I whispered, as my lower lip began to tremble.
He sighed, walking towards me and pulling me into a tight embrace for a second, before kissing my forehead again.
As he did, I pulled out the small flash drive and gave it to him. "That's the information you've been looking for. I think it'll help you bring down Hydra." I whispered.
He stared down at it before looking back up at me, and nodding, before slipping it into his pocket. "Thanks, doll. I appreciate this." He whispered back, kissing my cheek.
I nodded, "Do you by any chance have a knife?" I asked, frowning down at my arm.
"Not on me, why?" He asked, as his brows furrowed.
"Get one. Bring it back here. I need to cut something out of my arm, and yours too." I said as I looked around.
"What are you going to do?" He asked me.
I sighed, biting my lips before leaning back onto the desk and crossing my arms again. "I woke up one of the times that they were … they were torturing me… I saw them place a chip in my arm…my guess is it's a tracking chip… or something along those lines.". I whispered.
"Are you sure?" He asked, flexing his flesh arm, a few times.
"Yes… I can still feel mine…" I whispered, running my fingertips over my forearm, before offering for him to feel.
He frowned, reaching over towards my arm before gasping. "Tony, are you hearing this?" He asked loudly, looking around the room.
"Yeah, Banner and I are heading your way, stay calm." The familiar voice said.
"Alright…" James replied, tightly, before turning to me and pulling me into yet another hug. "Are you alright?" He asked.
"More or less." I shrugged, pressing my face into his chest again.
"Doll, look at me." He ordered.
I shook my head. "I'll be fine, James." I whispered.
"This is a botched job. You're not even supposed to know you have it." He pointed out.
"Oh? And how do you think I found out about it?" I asked him, looking up at him.
"You woke up." He pointed out, as we heard a whirring sound and the door slid open.
A moment later, two familiar yet unfamiliar men walked in, stopping as they saw the mess that littered the room.
"Barnes, what the hell did you do?" The short man with a goatee asked.
"Don't give me that look, Stark. I did what I had to do. My wife was miserable, and all alone in there." James said, tightening his hold on me.
"That was just a safety measure." The man named Tony replied.
"Not the time, Tony." The other man, Banner, I think was his name, said as he walked towards me, and pulled out the scalpel and offered it to me.
I took it, looking down at my arm with a frown. "Ask Friday to do a full body scan." I whispered as I tilted the scalpel towards my arm.
"How did you—?" Tony inquired with a raised brow.
"It's Tony, right?" I asked, as my fingers began to prod the skin on my forearm, before I felt the slight bump on it.
He nodded, with a curious expression.
"Well, Tony, I may not remember who I am, but I am starting to remember a few things. Plus I have amnesia, I'm not deaf." I pointed out, as I made the small, yet deep incision on my arm, wincing slightly as I bit down on my lip to keep myself from crying out.
"Fair point, kid. Friday, full body scan on Mr. Mrs. Barnes." Tony gestured towards us with his hands.
"Scanning now." The feminine voice said.
"What are we scanning for?" Banner asks.
"Any abnormalities within our body. I'm not sure, but I wouldn't put it past them to put more than one of these in us." I whispered, as I inserted two fingers into the incision and dug out the small circle-like tracking chip.
It was blinking as I dropped it and smashed it with my foot, letting out a breath of relief.
They all stared shocked at my arm as the wound slowly began to close and heal. Before looking up at my face in shock.
"What? Super Soldier too, remember?" I remarked as I pulled the sleeve back down.
"Your turn, Barnes." I said as I wiped down the scalpel on my shirt before offering it to him.
He shook his head, offering his arm to me instead. "You do it." He whispered.
I frowned, "I don't— I don't think that's a good idea, James …" I whispered, shaking my head at him, as Banner offered me a different scalpel, taking the other one.
"I trust you, doll." He whispered, nodding.
I felt my eyes water, before nodding and taking the scalpel. "This is going to hurt." I warned him.
He nodded, taking a deep breath, never breaking eye contact.
A throat cleared causing us to look away before I took a deep breath and made a quick yet deep incision, before shoving my fingers through it, and proceeding to pull out the same circle-like device that was blinking as I dropped to the floor and stomped on it.
"We could have tested that to see how it works." Tony said, staring down at my foot with a frown.
"We both know that that device is a danger to all of us if we leave it in your hands, if the event two years ago is anything to go by." I replied, dragging my fingers across James' arm to close the wound, without second thought.
"Woah, so you can heal others?" Tony asked.
"No, that's an illusion. In reality he is really bleeding out." I muttered, shaking my head before turning away, and walking over to my desk, leaning against tiredly onto it.
"Seriously, that's technology you know nothing about. I wasn't about to leave it in your capable hands to fuck around with. There is no telling what would happen if I handed that over to you. " I said.
"You wound me, kid." Tony said, grasping his chest offended.
"Seriously, you are one step away from being branded an evil scientist. You're supposed to be one of the good guys. How does messing with this differ from what those men did to us in Siberia?" I asked, trying to back away from him.
My head began to hurt as images assaulted my mind once more.
"Tony, you're going to need to leave the room. Now." James said, in warning, as he turned towards me.
I shook my head at him, unable to speak, as the images grew harsher than before. I took a deep breath, before exhaling slowly. "You all need to leave before you get hurt…" I warned them, as I lifted my hands and began to repair the glass that James had broken earlier, ignoring the sharp pain on the side of my head as I did it
As they watched wide eyed.
"What are you doing?" James asked, trying to stop me.
"Keeping you all safe." I whispered, as exhaustion swept over me.
As the reenforced glass became a solid wall between me and the three men, I felt myself stumble back, blindly.
The door slid open a moment later and someone else walked in. The woman with chestnut wave length hair walked in, as her hand and eyes began to glow in red.
She took a small step towards me before I shook my head at her.
"Don't read my mind." I warned, as I clutched at my head, groaning.
"Arie, you have to let her help you…" James said as he stood by the glass, his hand touching the glass.
"I'll be fine… I need to be alone." I said weakly, as the throbbing I had felt before became blinding.
I fell backwards onto a chair, gasping as I tried to breath through the pain.
"Tony…." I heard James say, before a searing pain erupted throughout my body, causing me to black out.
