Bucky's POV:
I watched in horror as Arie passed out, as blood began to fall from her nose.
She was laying in a heap on the ground as Tony tried fruitlessly to open the door that led into the smaller glass cell.
I felt powerless as I watched them struggle, I wanted so badly to break the glass but Arie could get hurt, and I didn't want that.
"Stark…" I growled, clenching my fist.
"I'm trying the keypad has been tampered with…" Tony growled back, frowning.
"Bucky, break the glass. I'll protect her." Wanda promised as she began to move her fingers in the same way Arie moves them sometimes. "Do it now! Her life force is fading fast!" She said, as she closed her eyes in concentration.
I didn't think twice before pulling back my left hand and snapping it forward with all my strength.
Wanda gasped as she strain to protect Arie, while the glass rained around us.
Once the glass was broken I rushed forward and picked her up, before rushing out of the room towards the hospital wing that was a level up.
"What happened to her?" Dr. Kalvin asked, as she moved the bed to lie back after I laid her down.
"She was trying to protect us… Something—something happened. I'm not sure what, but she passed out after repairing the glass." I explained.
The doctor nodded, as Wanda patted my arm.
"Hand me the nasal cannula, please. I have to stabilize her breathing, her heart is too accelerated…" she said as Wanda flicked her fingers and the package moved on its own across the room.
However, before the doctor could secure it around her, Arie threw the doctor across the room, and her body began to twitch violently on the bed.
She must be having a flashback!
Fucking hell! Damn Hydra! Damn them all to the fiery pits of hell!
I didn't think twice before climbing onto the bed, and pulling her small body onto mine as she began to shake and whimper.
"Marianna, listen to me! You need to wake up! You're not there anymore, baby, you'll never be there again! Come back to me! Come on, wake up, love…" I begged as I felt her grab a fistful of my shirt, as she began to murmur something under her breath in Russian.
"Pozhaluysta, ne delay yey bol'no. YA sdelayu chto ugodno ... Pozhaluysta, ona nevinovna!" She cried out. (Please don't hurt her. I'll do anything... Please, she's innocent! )
Who was she trying to protect?
"Adalin, Mne ochen' zhal'. Prostite menya za to, chto ya vas podvel …." She sobbed, crying harder into my chest. (Adaline, I'm so sorry. Forgive me for failing you….)
Adaline? Did she mean Adaline Ivanov? How?
"Mariana, wake up!" I said, pulling her into my lap, and trying to lightly shake her awake.
She sobbed, letting out a strangled cry, before she turned to my chest again.
I could feel her stiffen in my arms, as she gasped, before she shot into sitting position and looked around the room, before her beautiful, wide eyes finally turned to look at me.
"Ty nastoyashchiy? Ili plod moyego voobrazheniya?" She asked, as her slim fingers dug into my thigh. (Are you real? Or a figment of my imagination?)
"Real." I replied, softly, not breaking eye contact with her.
"Itak, ya deystvitel'no iz etogo ada na Zemle?" She asked, frowning as she swallowed thickly. (So, I'm really out of that hell on Earth?)
"Ty…" I replied, giving her a sad smile.
(You are.)
She nodded before her eyes began to water as she nodded.
I pulled her to me again, feeling as she hid her face in my neck, as her whole body began to jerk, with the sobs, as she pulled me harder into her.
"Oh baby. I'm so sorry…" I whispered into her hair.
"They were hiding her, James.
They hid her, she was so out of it that she could hardly stand… When I refused to submit, they brought her out to see me, and then they killed her in front of me." She sobbed.
Those bastards. Now, I really know I am going to hunt them down and kill them.
"Oh, doll. I'm so sorry…" I whispered, tightening my hold around her waist as I did.
Wait, but didn't — didn't she die while they were administering the serum? Was the information we had from Hydra wrong from all those years ago?
"She survived that… she could revive herself, well, that is until she got shot in the head and chest…" she whispered, tearfully.
Oh no.
I struggled to wrap my head around what she was telling me, as I felt her cling harder to me, practically caving in on herself as she did.
Nothing would take this pain away. She had experienced so much pain in this last year, and I was practically sure that nothing would take it away or lessen it.
Arie's POV:
The pulsating, almost blinding pain that came along with me remembering was almost too much for me to bear.
My head felt as if it had been put through a meat grinder, as each memory came back.
It hurt.
Each memory that resurfaced was like having my brain branded with a hot iron.
Though I was slowly remembering everything that I had before, the overload of information had my head feeling like I had a constant migraine and a bunch of other headaches combined.
There was no telling how long it would take for everything to come back to me, if it ever did.
I hoped they would, but there's not telling at this point.
Nobody besides Wanda knew that I was starting to remember because I feared that Hydra would find me again, and it would just be worse if they made me undergo the wiping again.
I made Wanda promise to keep it to herself until I feel ready to tell everyone.
Sadly, with this new development, I think Bucky will be finding out sooner than later.
He knew me better than anyone else, he would certainly know if I was lying or hiding something from him.
That and the fact that I can't control my mind, and it tends to snap back from reality to my memories.
Each time, making the struggle harder inside myself and with them.
That is the main reason why I haven't told anyone else that I remember…
It's the only way of keeping them safe… that and the fact that I only remember some things.
I just don't want to disappoint anyone by getting their hopes up…
False hope will only bring disappointment if there's a chance that I won't remember everything.
It'll hurt to disappoint them, and that's harder to live with then not remembering.
Author's Note:
I've decided to do inconsistency. The events in the movies won't be chronological in my story...
