Zach POV
'Are you sure this is the right place?' Grant asked Jonas as we pulled up to this old warehouse in the middle of nowhere.
'Positive. The phone signal came from here' Jonas checked his laptop
'Alright, let's go,' I said turning off the engine.
Grant and I crept out of the car. We scanned the area checking for snipers and traps.
'Clear' Grant said through the comms.
'Clear. Let's move' I replied
We continued until we reached the door. I looked at Grant and nodded. He reached for the handle.
'Three...two...one' Grant moved the door & I covered him, shining my torch into space.
There was absolutely nothing. We continued to move inside the building. Considering this building on the outside looked as though it has been abandoned for some time, the inside was surprisingly clear.
We moved further in until we found a chair with rope. There were a few drops of blood on the floor. I looked closer, it was dark on the outside but still shiny in the middle.
'Someone was held here, recently' I said.
'Dude, look' I followed the gaze of Grant's torch, at the far end of the warehouse was a car.
We approached it with caution, checking the front and back seats before moving to the trunk.
Grant and I shared a look.
'Three...two...one…' Grant opened the trunk and I prepared myself. Inside the trunk was Mr Neil McBride, a guy we targeted in a bar in Boston and we've been trying to track him down after he suddenly vanished. He was unconscious, gagged and tied up. I checked his pulse. He was still alive.
'This is not good' Grant sighed
'Damn it!' I huffed, punching the side of the car. 'Jonas, I need you to track every car that has anywhere close to this warehouse, asap'
'Already on it'
'This means we were right' Grant said 'About that girl. She's clearly tied to all of this. Why else would she come after this guy? She's covering her tracks'
'She's scared' I said
'And when people are scared, they make mistakes' Grant had a little smile on her lips 'Dude, we're close'
'I've got a hit. Unregistered black SUV was seen leaving here an hour and a half ago' Jonas informed us.
'Which means they're within catching distance' I smirked triumphantly. I looked back at Niel's unconscious body. Then something caught my eye. Right in the corner was the tiniest camera you could get. I pulled it out and held it up, smirking.
'Game on'
Cammie POV
'Damn it!' Bex threw the tablet across the hotel room
'What?' I asked looking up from cleaning my gun.
'They found the bloody camera'
'That's impossible' Liz picked up the tablet, tapping away 'They're practically invisible. I should know, I invented them'
'Well, clearly not enough,' Macey muttered whilst painting her nails. Liz looked up hurt. Bex punched Macey.
'OW! You made me mess up my nails'
'That's no excuse for you to be rude' Bex snapped. Macey sighed.
'I'm sorry Liz, I know you worked hard on them'
'I don't understand' Liz shook her blonde hair, her voice small and mousey
'They're skilled Liz, highly skilled' I reassured her 'Did you get a clear picture?'
Liz looked through the footage, pausing on a single frame. The two guys were dressed all in black, their faces covered apart from a small slither exposing their eyes.
'Can you enhance the image?' I asked
'It'll be tricky. The lighting is practically pitch black. I won't be able to get full-resolution'
'Anything you can get will help' I said. Liz nodded and began to get to work.
'Are you sure we're secure here?' Bex asked 'You know with the car being just streets away?'
'We burnt it, no trace of us at all. We have our back up car here, we've been checked into the hotel for two days, it's spring break, young girls, everywhere...I think we're safe'
'You sound mighty confident there, Cammie' Macey eyed me carefully. I shrugged
'I'm a chameleon, it's what I know best'
'So...does this mean that we can enjoy ourselves? Go to the pool? Meet some guys? I even heard they're a beach party tonight' Her eyes glistened mischievously.
'No, absolutely not' I shook my head
'Oh come on Cammie, live it up for once' Bex smiled like a Cheshire cat.
'Liz?' I looked at her, hoping to get support. Liz took her glasses off and cleaned them on her shirt.
'I mean, I'd love to have an evening where I don't have to stare at a computer. Plus the system is running, there's nothing I can do until it's finished'
I sighed.
'Fine. But one drink limit. We don't know who could be out there'
'Yay!' Macey clapped carefully, avoiding her wet nails 'Already ladies, I've got point on this operation'
'Operation?' I raised my eyebrow
'Operation Makeover' Macey smirked 'and I am going to start with…' she looked at me 'The Chameleon'
Shit.
…
Zach POV
The car was burnt. Our only lead was destroyed.
'Whoever was watching on the camera got spooked' Grant said. I sniffed the air.
'Not all the petrol was burnt. They couldn't have gotten far' I turned to Jonas 'Are there any car dealerships around here?'
'Nope'
'So they've gone on foot?' Grant wondered
'They're too smart for that. Probably laying low for a while to regroup' I said. This all didn't feel right
'There are several hotels within the area. It's spring break so they're all pretty booked' Jonas scrolled through his laptop 'There's also a party going on tonight at the beach'
'Sweet' Grant rubbed his hands together 'I need a cold beer and some hot chicks'
'Hold your horses there. We're not going' I said
'Come on!' Grant hit me 'They might be there'
I looked at Jonas for support.
'He's got a point' Jonas shrugged 'And we have been working non-stop. One night won't hurt'
I pressed the base of my hands into my eyes and sucked in a deep breath.
'Alright, fine. But no more than 2 drinks and certainly no bringing or getting with any girl'
'Why do you have to be such a buzzkill?' Grant moaned.
'Spy' I pointed to myself and smirked.
…
A few hours later, after finally checking into a room, and getting changed, we made our way to the beach. The music was pretty good, and there were a lot of model-like people in tiny, fitted outfits who were drinking, dancing and grinding on each other.
Grant got the first round.
'A toast, to the Blackthorne Boys' Grant announced
'Yeah, announce who we are to the whole bar, you idiot' I smacked him across the back of the head.
'Jez, calm down' He rubbed the back of his head 'Now, if you excuse me, I'm going to find a lady' He wiggled his eyebrows and smiled mischievously. I rolled my eyes.
'Behave' I warned.
'Always do,' He saluted. We walked out onto the little terrace that led to the beach. I looked around at all the people partying and joking. Then my eyes were caught by a girl with dark blonde hair in a dark blue sundress who was in an altercation with a clearly very intoxicated guy.
'You coming, Zach?' Grant asked he was already halfway down towards the beach
'In a sec. I'll be right back'
Cammie POV
I was leaning against the edge of the deck. The moon was bouncing off the calm sea, the fairy lights and tiki torches set a warmth around this part of the beach. I watched as Macey and Bex were caught up in the middle of the dance floor surrounded by guys.
Maybe I should have given Liz a half-a-drink limit as after one, it went straight to her head and she had to lie down.
I stared off into the sea not looking at anything specific whilst playing with my necklace. It was a family heirloom that I inherited from my mother.
She went MIA on a mission. Just like my father, godfather and aunt. All of them just disappeared without a trace. No one knows what their mission was or who the target was, all I know was they didn't come home and haven't been seen for the last 5 years. There's still a mystery about what happened to all of them. A mystery I've been so desperate to solve.
'Hey, beautiful' An extremely drunk college (probably frat guy) came up to me. 'What are you doing here all alone?' He wrapped his arm across my shoulder, holding me in place
'Enjoying the view'
'You're my best view' He smirked. I rolled my eyes. Are all guys idiots? I scoffed and shrugged him off.
'Hey baby, I'm sorry' He pulled me back in, his hand back on my arm 'How about a kiss to make up for it?'
'Not a chance' I began to move away but he caught my wrist, spinning me around to face him. 'Let me go'
'Come on, don't be a bitch'
'Seriously, let me go or else'
'Or else what?'
'Or else I beat the crap out of you' A voice from behind me said. I glanced over my shoulder to see a tall, muscular guy with piercing green fiery eyes and a tense sharp jaw standing a few feet away.
'Who the fuck are you?' The drunk college guy hissed.
'Her fucking boyfriend who is about to kick the crap out of you if you don't let her go' He said without missing a beat. A strange feeling was in my stomach, was it because he said he was my boyfriend or was it something else?
'Chill dude' The guy let me go and backed away. I turned back to my rescuer.
'Thanks' I tucked a strand of hair behind my ear. 'You didn't have to'
'I think I did. That guy was very persistent. He wouldn't have backed off without a fight'
'I could have taken him' I shrugged. The guy chuckled lightly.
'I'm sure you could have,' He smirked, believing that I was joking. I resisted the urge to roll my eyes. I just smiled like a shy college girl would and turned back to the view. I could feel that he was still watching me, after a moment, he came and stood next to me sipping his beer.
'Not your scene?' He raised an eyebrow
'My friends pressured me. They think I've been working too hard'
'I know how you feel' He took a swig of his beer 'Midterms were killer' He added
'Try being a sports major' The lie rolling off my tongue flawlessly 'It kills'
'Let me guess…' He looked me up and down. Alarm bells went off in my head. Part of me felt he was looking up and down like a typical college guy but the other part of me felt he was sizing me up as competition. I clasped my hands together, ready to press the alarm in my bracelet that would notify the girls.
'...Football?' He asked. I genuinely laughed which made the corner of his mouth twitch into a smile.
'You think I'm a football jock?'
'Well, you did say you could take that guy on. It was either that or wrestling.' He teased. This time I rolled my eyes, laughing lightly
'Track' I told him
'You fast?'
'No one's ever caught me'
'I'm sure I could' He teased, taking another sip of his beer. I shrugged.
'If you can' I winked. Ohhh, look at me flirting with a cute guy. I need to thank Macey for putting me in the one dress that has superpowers sewn into the seams.
'Is that a challenge?' He slid a little closer to me.
'Why don't we find out?' I slid closer to him till our shoulders touched. His eyes had lost their fierceness and now were dark and alluring.
I bit my lip and noticed his eyes flicker down for a millisecond.
Before anything could happen, there was a cough from behind us. Macey was standing behind us, a wicked glint in her eyes.
'I'm sorry to interrupt, but Suzie...' She looked at me 'Vicky needs our help' Macey pointed to Bex who was being sick in a nearby trash can. A random girl was holding up her hair.
'I have to go, I'm sorry'
'Will your friend be okay? Do you need any help?'
A normal girl would say yes at this point, but not every normal girl has a closet full of artillery in her hotel room.
'We'll manage. This isn't the first time' Macey answered for me, pulling me away.
'It was nice to meet you!' I called
'You too' He gave me a little cheer with his beer as I walked away.
'Okay, you need to tell me everything about that hunk' Macey whispered, giggling as we went to sort out Bex. I glanced back over my shoulder to see the guy looking at me, a smirk on his lips as he noticed I'd turned back. Curse those green eyes.

GallagherGirlsEmbassyRowFan: There will be a rollercoaster ride with this just like always! But I think this will be the best rollercoaster ride I've ever done! Hope you're staying safe too xxx
Shark: Thank you! This will have the one-shot storyline at some point but with some tweaks to fit the overall story xxx
gymnast1150: Ah! Thank you, thank you, thank you! This will have some moments of 'Rogue Agent' but I've adapted those chapters to fit with the new storyline I'm aiming for. Exactly! I don't want to make them these great spies but just highly skilled young adults like they were in the books. I've gone back to Ally's series for inspiration so there are lots of little nuggets being sewn into this story. Bless you, I am in awe of you! There is so much more to Zach's character than we expect...xxx
Covertoperative456: Thank you so much! Stay tuned for more surprises! xxx
