Prompt: Hiccup and Toothless didn't make it to Aric before he could tell Stoick about her and Toothless. When Hiccup feels most broken and alone, Toothless is there to comfort her.
Song: You'll be in my Heart by Phil Collins
You'll be in my Heart:
Hiccup and Toothless raced through the forest to catch up to Aric before he spilled everything to everyone, but it was too late. They stopped at the edge of the forest, Aric before the entire village and Stoick. He told them everything, and Stoick was noticeably angry, a stern disappointment written on his face. A million feelings coursed through Hiccup at the sight, but despair and betrayal stood out most. When Stoick began announcing for a hunting party, it became too much. She felt a sob wanting to tear through her, but she wouldn't let it out. Not now.
Toothless sensed Hiccup's distress, though, and took it upon himself to take Hiccup from the sight of her nest. They landed back in the cove, and after Hiccup distantly slid off the saddle, she let herself cry. It tore Toothless' heart to hear her broken sobs. He'd never seen Hiccup cry before, and it really hurt to see it. As soon as it started, however, Hiccup forced herself to stop, forcefully wiping tears from her face as she sniffled.
"I hate crying", she said as she did so, but her efforts didn't stop the tears from flowing. It didn't seem as though she could truly will herself to stop. (Start Song) But Toothless couldn't just watch as his sister fell apart, especially when her nest was hunting them. He needed to do something, and he knew exactly what.
"Come stop your crying…" he stepped forward. He knew Hiccup's understanding was still broken and basic, but she understood his tones, and that was always enough to comfort her. As he came closer, Hiccup looked to him, her expression perplexed but understanding too. "I will be here, don't you cry", his wing brushed a few of her tears.
Toothless sat back on his haunches over Hiccup; she was such a small youngling. "My wings will hold you…" he wrapped his wings around her like a protective embrace. Hiccup seemed to smile with it, accepting his comfort. He went back on all fours before her, but then purred and nuzzled her. "I will be here, don't you cry."
Though he knew she probably couldn't understand, Hiccup's eyes still seemed to shine in happiness instead of tears. Somehow, even through the language barrier, she was understanding. His tail came to lightly wrap around where she stood as he sat back, another protective gesture. As long as Hiccup needed him to, he would protect her, as he was sure she'd do the same. He continued to sing to her, "…no matter what they say", and Hiccup just listened, wiping any remaining tears from her cheeks. "…always", they touched foreheads, eyes closed. Then Hiccup rose and looked out the cove.
"Why can't they understand…" Hiccup sang, and it surprised Toothless, but he didn't stop it.
"They just don't trust…" Toothless answered the best he could.
"I know we're different, but…" Hiccup looked back to him, shaking her head from all the things she'd grown up being told. "And you'll…", she then sang, and Toothless knew his eyes had grown wide.
"Yes…", he responded, understanding no longer mattering in his mind.
" "From this day on…" " they somehow sang together.
"Don't listen to them…" Toothless bound forward, and Hiccup seemed to smile. "We need each other, to have, to hold."
"They'll see in time…" Hiccup closed her eyes.
"When destiny…" Toothless strongly continued. "…They may not be with you…" he nudged her a bit.
She only softly gazed out.
"I know. (I know)"
" "We'll show them…" " They suddenly sung together. "Cause "you'll be…" " At that moment Hiccup's pack chasing them didn't seem to matter. "Believe me, "You'll be…" " As long as they had each other they'd be okay.
"I'll be there "From this day on," "
"Now and forever more!" Toothless practically soared as Hiccup smiled.
"You'll be here…!" Hiccup sang with as much intensity.
"No matter what they say (I'll be with you). You'll be here in my heart (I'll be there)," "
"Always", her eyes seemed to bore into his.
"Always."
It was just then that a sound caught their ears. Her pack was coming, and Hiccup had turned to the sound, frightened, her breathing much too frightened and panicked.
"Just look over your shoulder", he reassured, but she didn't turn. At least, not at first. Eventually, she did, and after a moment, a soft smile graced her face.

By the time Stoick and his men reached the cove, Hiccup and her dragon were gone, nothing left but a black cloak and some scales. In the distance, Stoick almost swore he saw the black beast carrying his daughter away, but the dot was so small in the sky, he couldn't be sure. Taking her cloak from the grass covered soil, so small in his hands, he felt a pang in his heart.
His Hiccup was gone.
