Volume 1 - First Order

Chapter 4: Fire

Previously from Naruto Uzumaki: Stargazer…

"By the way, are you one of the potential Master candidates they gathered for the first mission?" She asked, and the young man nodded.

"They said I was qualified to form a contract with a Servant, so somebody from here invited me… by the way, what's Rayshifting?" Mash blinked owlishly before she composed herself.

"Don't tell me; you came here without knowing what you're here to do?" The young man immediately gained an embarrassed look on his face, to which Mash immediately explained everything she could say about it, and the young man was surprised at being asked to participate in such a grand scheme.

Afterwards, the young man realised one thing, then offered his hand to Mash, "Sorry, I should have said before."

"I'm Ritsuka Fujimaru, I apologise for not making a more impressive self-introduction, but it's nice to meet you."

Mash hesitated initially, but she accepted the handshake, not knowing it was the beginning of a long journey ahead.

A long and beautiful but arduous journey across time.

Story Start.

"Remember! Find the source of this anomaly, and destroy it," ordered Olga towards the members of Team A, all dressed with Chaldea's Combat Mystic Code for their use inside the Coffins.

"For Team A specifically, your job is to go in quickly, sneak in and strike; Team B will focus on taking the attention of any enemies that may come," she continued as the Mages before her listened carefully, with differing thoughts within their mind.

Ophelia already knew what they were supposed to do, but she feared that they wouldn't be able to do what they were meant to do. Of the members of Team A, only she had access to some information let out to her by the Director.

"You make it sound like I'm not going to be there, Olga," said Naruto as he entered the briefing room overlooking the command room, and as usual, followed by Arturia, as Da Vinci oversaw things behind the scenes, inside her workshop.

"… what do you mean?"

"I'll go with Team A and provide backup. Arturia here needs to kick some ass and take names," replied Naruto, and Arturia sighed but agreed nonetheless; she itched for battle. Besides, she already knows what will occur today, thanks to the Father.

"As much as I would love to have the rest of the Round Table here, those idiots being present would defeat the purpose of this mission," she said, and the attention went to her.

"What? As a King and Knight, I know my knights enough, but perhaps not to the extent as my Master does," she continued as the others listened.

Naruto shook his head before he cleared his throat, which then placed the attention to himself, "Putting that aside, there are forces at work here, powerful forces that I may wish to contend with by myself, but cannot, because of the limitations I made for me."

"And my duties here is to hold the line," added the priest who entered the room, and with his usual black cassock, he wore a black cape secured in a ribbon across his chest, and a biretta sat upon his scalp.

"As well protect the Director from the nonsensical bullcrap that he gets himself into, in short, I'm his meat shield should the need arise," Father Aurelius finished while Naruto just gave him a deadpan.

"You make it sound like I'm holding you here by force," he said, and the priest snorted.

"That's exactly the case, and you know it. Regardless, since Co-Director Animusphere kicked Doctor Archaman out of the command room, I will temporarily take over his role as the medical overseer of all the people Rayshifting today," the Chaplain pointedly said, which Olga promptly ignored. At the same time, Naruto let out a chuckle, and the same can be said for some in Team A.

"And thus, any and further factors added regarding the temporary role is deemed absolutely null and utterly void… just like Anglican Ordinations."

Silence ensued until Naruto broke it with amusement in his voice "You just had to add that last part there, didn't you, Father?"

"Hn."

"You sound like an Uchiha."

"Ōtsutsuki."

"Close enough."

-Chaldea's Corridor: Same time-

"Mash. Mash Kyrielight," said Lev Lainur as he approached the young man, Ritsuka Fujimaru, and Mash.

"So this is where you've been." The man's almost always smiling face came upon them, and the two youngsters stood.

"Professor Lev," greeted Mash.

"The general briefing for the Master candidates is about to begin," stated Lev as he approached the two teens, "come quickly to the command room."

Then he turned to Ritsuka, who stood quietly, slightly nervous as he did.

"Oh, who are you?" Lev asked with a slight tinge of curiosity, but he didn't wait for a reply; instead, he accessed Chaldea's database from his wrist device.

"Number 48… ah, since we already have all 38 of the Mage's Association Candidates here, you must be from the general pool; we did cobble together a few compatible people to fill in the ranks," explained Lev amicably, but that probably didn't help Ritsuka's self-esteem, and Lev noticed it.

"Oh, no need to be gloomy about it. We're going to need all of you for this mission," he placated, but the strange emphasis went unnoticed.

"Huh," was the only thing that left Ritsuka's mouth as Lev tipped his top hat.

"I'm Lev Lainur, one of the engineers here," he introduced himself to Ritsuka, who looked nervous.

"Ah, h-hello."

"By the way, shouldn't you be going as well?" Lev asked, which just confused Ritsuka.

"Where?"

"The briefing," said the mage, and Ritsuka blinked owlishly, and Mash grimaced as she remembered the time, and Lev's following words did not help at all.

"If you're late, the Co-Director will glare at you for an entire year, unless the Director steps in… which he usually does, come to think of it."

"Eh!? U-Um, where is it?" Ritsuka exclaimed in panic, but it was alleviated as Mash caught his left arm and dragged him to the lift where Lev followed them.

-Chaldea's Command Room: General Briefing-

"Welcome to the Chaldea Security Organisation," loudly said Olga as she stood in front of all the Master candidates who sat before her.

"I am Olga Marie Animusphere, the Co-Director of Chaldea," she continued. Still, before else, she was interrupted when the doors opened to show Naruto, Arturia, and Father Aurelius walking in.

"You're late," commented Olga, to which Naruto brushed her off.

"For ten seconds, which is hardly noticeable, to be honest," quipped the priest as he took his place beside Naruto and Olga, while Arturia, still in her armour, stood one pace behind her Master. Her presence took the attention of many candidates there.

"Ahem. Anyway, I am Naruto Uzumaki, the Director and Owner of Chaldea, the one in charge and pays for just about everything around here," the Director introduced himself and Olga, together with the priest and the King, sighed.

"That last part wasn't necessary, Director Uzumaki, but regardless, following that," started the priest before he cleared his throat.

"I am Father Aurelius Augustinus Marcus Leviticus Leviathan… Uzumaki, Vice-Director and Chaplain of Chaldea, sometimes, the medical officer, and most of the time, the entertainer and the peanut gallery," he continued.

Then chuckles were heard from the control centre above, but they all noted his last name; since his arrival last year, they've always thought his last name was "Leviathan", not "Uzumaki", the same as the Director.

Even Olga sent a questioning glance towards Naruto, who winked at her.

"What else are they hiding from me?" Olga thought to herself as the rest listened to the Father's speech.

"All of you have been selected or found from all around the world for the unique talent you possess," he said, and Naruto took on from that.

"The ability to conduct Spiritron Dives, that's what your unique talent is, coincide that with the right to bear magic circuits and the qualifications to become a Master, like myself," said Naruto as Arturia walked forward and stood beside him.

"As you can see here, she is one of my two servants, King Arthur of the Britons, and the other one, Leonardo Da Vinci, is busy at the moment under my orders." Murmurs were heard from the candidates, specifically from those who haven't been in Chaldea, unlike Team A, who all remained silent.

"… with that being said. You will be reborn as a new kind of mage, unlike any who've come before, able to wield a mix of magecraft and science," said Olga as the candidates were silenced.

"It's a special talent indeed, but there is nothing special about yourselves; you are not special people. In the words of Lord Uzumaki, you are all equal. Yet, I add to that: equally worthless until proven otherwise," she stated, which created more chatter from the candidates, to which she raised her voice louder as she saw Mash behind the candidates, near the door with Lev, who kept his smile.

"Here, you all stand on the same starting line, understand that you are still recruits, and I'll say this to those of you sent from the Mage's Association, in particular, you seem to think you're still students," she continued. At the same time, Naruto held back his laughter. Olga was learning from him.

"The old man Aurelius is correct; you should marry her already," quipped Kurama from the back of his mind, to which he replied by shutting the beast out.

"Make sure to rectify that immediately."

Naruto took that moment to continue his piece, "The Association thinks they can walk over us, they're wrong because they are a bunch of uptight and piss poor bastards, make sure none of you grows up to be as such. Remember: here, my orders are absolute."

"Make yourselves aware that you are tools…." Olga added as everyone remained silent, "… tools to protect mankind's history."

This statement sent the candidates into the chatter of disagreement, sans Team A, and the one who is on the verge of sleeping.

"If you don't like what I have to say, leave Chaldea immediately!" That silenced them all, and Olga felt a brush of satisfaction upon her, though, not wanting to waste a moment, the priest went in and broke it.

"There's a heavy snowstorm outside; doors are sealed tight and covered with snow."

A loud snort came from the Director, which nearly turned to loud laughter if not for Arturia nudging her Master hard.

"What, it was a dick move, and a funny one at that," quietly said the Director to Arturia, who just gave him a pointed look.

Even Ophelia put a hand over her mouth as she covered her smile. The Father never ceases to amuse her, and true to his title, he was like a father to her, unlike the Director, whom she considers her pillar of strength.

"…" Olga fought the annoyance rising inside her, and she thankfully succeeded, not for long, however, as a snore echoed through the room.

"Hmm, the tritagonist is here," muttered the priest while Naruto chuckled in amusement, and suffice to say, Arturia just sighed, very much used to the antics of her Master and the old priest.

Olga didn't hear anything as she marched down straight to the sleeping candidate, and she checked his identity from the database.

"… 48… general pool…" she muttered as her ire began to rise as she watched Ritsuka contently snore in his seat.

"…"

"…"

"…"

Olga couldn't hold it.

"YOU'VE GOT GUTS, KID! NAPPING RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME! GET OUT!" She grabbed him by the collar of his mystic code and pushed him out of the command room, but he only showed visible confusion.

"Well, that woman certainly has the fire, now, you just need her to aim it in the right direction… preferably to that ugly mage in green and that ridiculous necktie," whispered Kurama, and Naruto just hummed in agreement.

"…"

"Ophelia, come over here," called out Naruto while Olga calmed herself down, and Ophelia came forward with a questioning look, then Naruto leaned down and whispered to her ears.

"Ophelia, once the Father walks out, go with him; he knows what to do. Leave this first strike to Arturia and me." The young woman gained a look of confusion on her face.

"But…"

"No buts… it's for your safety. Besides, you're my secretary," he immediately countered, and Ophelia thought about it for a moment before she nodded in obedience; meanwhile, the priest mentioned above already left the room without a word, perhaps not to incite Olga to further explosive episodes.

Lev did not like his departure from the room.

"Go, now, we'll talk later," he said before Ophelia did what she was told, but inside his mind, an inquiry came from his servant.

"Why just her and the kid? Why not save them all?"

"I want to, having learned many things from the old priest, I want to, beloved, in fact, I desire to save them all, but do you want the enemy to take notice immediately and hinder our path? As with any war, casualties will happen, and, sadly, my Chaldea will lose a lot today."

"As we are 6,000 feet above sea level, yes, do not expect to see any blue skies here," explained Mash, with a hint of lamentation in her voice, but went unnoticed by Ritsuka as they stared outside the window.

"Blue skies, huh?" muttered Ritsuka before he gained a smile and looked towards Mash.

"You should go and travel when you're free. Being stuck in here all year would get anybody down," he said with much exuberance, which sent Mash into deep reflection as she stared outside longingly.

"… this person knows. He knows a world that I will never get to touch…."

"I guess I can't go home that easily, huh," said Ritsuka, though, before Mash could have said anything, a new voice came in their ears.

"You remain a vital asset to Chaldea, kid, no matter what." It was Father Aurelius, and behind him, someone Ritsuka did not recognise, but Mash did.

"Besides, Olga may be subject to intense emotional discharges like that one, but she's not irresponsible. Maybe a little stupid but not stupid enough to toss someone out of Chaldea; the Director taught her better than that," he continued while Ophelia listened carefully; despite having stayed in Chaldea for a while now, she never did get the chance to understand the Co-Director.

Ritsuka gave a bow to the priest, having heard of his identity as the Vice-Director of Chaldea.

"Sir," he greeted.

"Father, child," the Chaplain corrected, and Ritsuka looked apologetic.

"Sorry, Father."

"So, why did you join Chaldea in the first place?"

Ritsuka's gaze returned to the window outside before he replied, "… the pitch they gave me was protect the future of mankind, but they never went into the details, so that briefing, I was looking forward to it, but well… hehe."

"I figured, hey, if I can help out, plus, after getting that enthusiastic invitation, I couldn't say no," he finished with a smile to which the priest returned, while Mash smiled as well.

"Senpai, you know… out of the people I've met before, you're the most human of them all," said Mash while the Father raised an eyebrow but understood what she meant nonetheless.

"Mash, you will have to return to attend the first mission, right?"

"Yes, Father," replied Mash before she looked back to Ritsuka, "see you later."

Then she went off her way while Ritsuka opened the door to his room, "Hello! Sorry to intrude… wait, it's my room."

Though, he did not expect a reply at all, certainly not from someone huddled in the bed, covered in a blanket with a laptop screen open, from which a female voice could be heard giggling.

"Yes… come in…" lazily said the man inside the room, then there was silence, "… wait…."

"WH-WHAAAA?!" exclaimed the man as he stumbled back, revealing a staff, specifically a medical officer.

"WHO ARE YOU?! THIS ROOM'S EMPTY! IT'S MY GOOF-OFF CHAMBER! WHO SAID YOU COULD COME IN HERE?!" rattled on the man, which Ritsuka did not know, but behind him, the priest wore a deadpan, and Ophelia couldn't utter a word.

"Uhm…" awkwardly, Ritsuka scratched the back of his head, then said, "I was told this was my room…."

"Your room…? Ah… oh, I see. So the final team member's here now, eh."

"Romani, what were you doing just now?" Father Aurelius got the deadpan out of his face and was stoic as he entered the room.

"Ah. Vice-Director, eh… nothing?" Romani tried to remove the sheepish look on his face, but the priest didn't have any of it as he just turned around and walked away.

"Stop getting life advice from Magi*Mari. Stop it, get some help," said the Chaplain as he left the room where Ophelia waited for him.

That was when Romani realised that Ophelia was there, who said nary a word, yet her unreadable expression spoke volumes.

Then he realised what the Vice-Director mentioned.

"… ah... crap..."

-Da Vinci's Workshop-

"… mhm…" Da Vinci hummed to herself as she worked on some things the Director asked her to do until the Chaplain and Ophelia came into her workshop.

"Oh, is it time?"

Father Aurelius nodded while Ophelia sat nearby in silence, while Da Vinci stood up and took something out of a box.

"Ophelia, deary, come try this mystic code," said Leonardo as she showed what she made for Ophelia according to the Director's specifications and Ophelia's consent.

It was modelled after Chaldea's standard mystic code but modified to withstand extreme environments and fully modular for adaptation to different singularities.

"5… 4… 3… 2… 1…" counted the Chaplain, and then the ground shook, the lights flickered, and alarms blared.

"Réquiem ætérnam dona eis, Dómine…" he muttered while Ophelia put on her mystic code.

"Et lux perpétua lúceat, eis," replied Da Vinci to his surprise, but Da Vinci only gave him a smile and a nod; hence he continued.

"Requiéscant in pace."

"Amen."

A few moments passed, and Ophelia was done; then the priest turned to Da Vinci, who nodded and said, "I will hold the fort, while you lot get the action done."

"Ophelia, let's go. We have work to do."

-Moments earlier-

Much to Lev's chagrin, the candidates proceeded to the coffins without Ophelia or Ritsuka. Still, the Director overruled him, and with that Saber beside him, Lev could not do anything rash, but he had to commence his plans, and little did he know, the Director waited for it.

Olga finally calmed down from that emotional episode earlier, but like many in that room, she was ignorant of what was about to happen, except for the fact that Naruto pulled her closer to him as they walked away from the coffins as the Rayshift system began its activation.

Then she knew nothing but darkness, then nothing.

Wide eyes opened, and she saw not the command room, nor CHALDEAS, but instead a city in flames.

"Olga," she heard Naruto's voice call her, then she realised that her body was within his embrace, but she found herself fine with it for some strange reason; her smaller stature felt smaller within that embrace.

"Let's go; we have someone to meet," he said as he broke the embrace and took her hand as he led her with him.

"Where are we?" she asked, her voice quiet than usual, as she knew something was off, and that she already knew Naruto and the priest hid things from her, the extent of it, however, is what she did not know.

"A familiar place to myself, but you know this as the Spatial Singularity F," said another voice, and Olga looked to see Arturia, armoured as usual. Her sword, unsheathed from its sheath, called Avalon, which the Director returned to her.

"And we stumbled on a Holy Grail War, or at the very least, the aftermath of one.
