Pokémon RWBY
Chapter 2
So, a lot of you have noticed, and yeah, I created the Region Team RWBY are in. I'm using Gym Leaders from my first Pokémon fanfic and creating new towns and such. Professor Hawthorn is also a creation of mine. I hope everything lives up to the legacy left by Nintendo and 4Kids.
Disclaimer: I own neither franchise.
The members of Team RWBY slumped weakly in chairs provided to them in Professor Hawthorn's lab as they tried to process the fact that they had been spirited away from their dorm in Remnant to this new and different world where even the moon wasn't the same. The group was too stunned to even speak due to this revelation, and it was because of this that they almost missed Professor Hawthorn walking up and offering them mugs of juice.
"Here," said the Professor, "this should help. It's tea seasoned with Nanab Berry juice. It's a bit bitter, but it helps soothe tension."
The girls took the cups blankly and sipped the drink within, the bittersweet flavor snapping them back to reality while sending a warmth through them that eased their nerves and washed away a good deal of their stress.
"Effective," said Blake with a nod.
"Though it's a bit bitter," said Ruby with a frown.
"That's how good tea tastes Ruby," said Blake, "it's supposed to be invigorating."
"Yeah, but I'd prefer if it was sweeter," replied Ruby, "can't I put sugar or something in it? You know, like with coffee?"
"I think you put too much sugar in your coffee as is," sighed Weiss.
"Well, it needs it!" protested Ruby.
"In any case," pressed Alex, "are you lot feeling any better about all this?"
"Sort of," said Yang, though her tone was a bit unsure, "it's still a lot to take in though. How are you two not as surprised as us to meet four girls from another dimension?"
"Well," said the Professor, "dimensional travel isn't unheard of here. In fact, there are several Legendary Pokémon that specialize in it. Also, alternate dimensions themselves aren't unheard of either and there are some Researchers that actually study these worlds and the impact they have on our own."
"Do you think they'd have any ideas that could help us?" asked Blake.
"Possibly," said Professor Hawthorn, "in fact, Doctor Marval Diece, an old colleague of mine from Sinnoh, has done some extensive research into the subject."
"Great," said Yang, "so where can we find the good Doctor?"
"Well, you're in luck," said the Professor as she checked her computer, "according to our correspondence, he's currently doing research in Precipice Valley, nearby Gehenna Village, which is about a day's hike from here."
"Then what are we waiting for?" asked Yang as she jumped to her feet, "let's head to this valley and get back to Beacon as fast as possible!"
"Are you crazy?" exclaimed Weiss, "We have to think about this!"
"What's there to think about?!" argued Yang as her eyes flashed red, "Don't you want to get back home?"
"Yang," said Ruby calmingly, "we all want to get back home, but we can't just rush ahead. We don't even know anything about this new world aside from the fact that it's completely different from our own."
"Especially considering that we were attacked by these Pokémon creatures as soon as we arrived, and without our weapons, they could be as dangerous as the Grimm," pointed out Blake.
"But…" began Yang.
"Actually," said Alex, cutting in, "you don't want to head along the path to Gehenna Village after dark unless you're confident in your Pokémon team or your skills as a trainer. There are a good amount of nocturnal Pokémon that can live on the path that can be quite dangerous. I promise to take you there tomorrow morning, so I think you four should get some sleep. Let things here sink in a bit and look at them tomorrow with a fresh mind."
"The local Pokémon Center offers free lodging for those that need it," said Professor Hawthorn, "I'm sure they'd be happy to provide you with a good meal and a place to sleep for the night."
"Sounds like a plan then," said Ruby, "though, what is a Pokémon Center?"
"A Pokémon Center is basically a hospital for Pokémon," said Alex, "but when needed, it can also serve as a rest stop for weary travelers in need. C'mon, it's not far from here and if we hurry, we can make it before curfew."

The next morning, the four dimensionally displaced teens met Alex in the Pokémon Center lobby, the young man having brought some supplies for the girls to have for the trip. The teens were a bit unsure about packing so much though, but Alex pointed out that having the right supplies can help keep them safe, even on a single day's trip.
"Even with my Pokémon watching our backs, we could still run into unexpected trouble," he told them, "It's better to be overprepared than to be caught unawares. Besides, on the off chance we don't make it to Gehenna Village before nightfall, we'll have to camp out in the wilderness until morning."
"Is that safe?" asked Weiss as she took one of the packs, "I mean, we were attacked by wild Pokémon not long after arriving here."
"It's safer than you think," said Alex, "wild Pokémon tend to leave humans alone and rarely, if ever, attack campsites unless provoked beforehand. We'll be fine. Now, c'mon. We have a good way to go and we're burning daylight."
The dimensionally displaced teens nodded and hefted their packs, following Alex out of the Town's limits and into the wilds. As they trekked through the foothills, they noticed that the fields were filled with various species of Pokémon, scampering around and living their lives and, noticing their curious looks, was more than happy to elaborate on their various species.
"That over there," said Alex as he pointed to a group of Pokémon that resembled bluish bulbs with a cute face, two feet, no arms, and green leaves sprouting from its head, "those are Oddish. And over there is a group of Pidgey." He added as he indicated some small bird Pokémon with brown and tan feathers that flew by overhead.
"Aw, they're so cute," gushed Ruby as a group of Bulbasaur trotted by as well.
"And…harmless," mused Blake.
"Most Pokémon are," said Alex with a smile as several Hoppip drifted by overhead on a breeze, "they don't go out of their way to attack humans unless they feel threatened in some way, and while there are some dangerous species of Pokémon, most can be avoided if you are careful."
"I would assume then that the Pokémon that attacked us the other night are one of the more dangerous breeds?" asked Weiss as she glanced at their guide.
"Somewhat," said Alex, "Houndour typically act as a pack and, while they can be a bit territorial, they are usually smart enough to keep clear of trainers. It's likely they just felt you were too close to their den for comfort or something."
"If you say so," said Blake.
"Don't worry," said Alex, "while I may be a researcher by profession, I've still had a decent tenure as a Pokémon Trainer before I put on the lab coat. My team and I can keep us safe."
"Besides Weiss," said Ruby as she knelt down and allowed an Oddish to trot closer, "they're so CUTE!"
"Oddish?" said the Grass Type as it cocked its head to the side in confusion.
"How can something this cute be dangerous?" asked Ruby.
"Actually, you'd be surprised," said Alex with a chuckle, "but we'd best hurry. We'll have to pass through Gateway Forest again if we want to reach Gehenna Village, and given our last experience there, I'd rather we were in and out before dusk. Just in case."
The students from Remnant nodded and headed after Alex as they reached the familiar entrance to the forest they had found themselves in upon arriving here in this world. Alex led them deeper as they followed a path through the woods, keeping an eye out for any Pokémon that could possibly attack, and things were going rather smoothly.
Partway through, Ruby felt a sort of tingling at the edge of her senses, almost as if she could feel someone nearby based on her Aura. Pausing, she glanced around as she tried to pin down the feeling, but it seemed to be periodically changing position, as if it was flitting from branch to branch in the trees overhead.
"Hey Ruby," said Yang as she noticed her sister's distracted state, "what's up?"
"I don't know," said Ruby, "I can't really explain it, but I think we're not alone here."
"Well obviously," said Weiss, "we're in a forest filled with wild Pokémon."
"It's not that," said Ruby as she looked around, walking distractedly away from the group, "it's like I can feel someone nearby, but I'm not sure."
"Do you think it's dangerous?" asked Blake.
"I don't know," said Ruby as she closed her eyes to try and focus as she wandered further. That was a mistake.
Because she wasn't able to see, the red-clad girl tripped over a root and tumbled off the path, with a cry, rolling down the rocky hill and into the trees where she disappeared.
"Ruby!" cried out Yang, but Alex caught her shoulder with a firm grip, keeping her from going after her, "What are you doing?"
"You'll be of no help to her if you tumble down after her," Alex said firmly, "now follow me. We'll have to be careful and alert if we want to rescue her."

"Owww!" groaned Ruby after coming to a stop, "Now I see why Miss Goodwitch was always going on about being mindful about our surroundings."
The leader of Team RWBY tried to pull herself to a sitting position, but hissed as a sharp pain shot through her leg when she moved it. Glancing at the limb in question, she saw that she probably had sprained her ankle, so she wasn't going to be leaving anytime soon.
"Is anyone out there?" Ruby called out, "I need some help! Yang? Weiss? Blake? Alex?"
There was a rustling in the bushes near Ruby, causing her to turn towards the movement, wincing as her ankle cried out in protest, "Who's there?"
The tingling feeling in her Aura returned in force and a Pokémon she hadn't seen before walked out of the leaves. This Pokémon was about as tall as Zwei and resembled a bipedal canine with blue and black fur that had a black patch over its eyes resembling a raccoon mask and silver nubs on the back of its hand/paws.
"Were you the one who I kept feeling?" asked Ruby curiously.
"Riolu?" asked the Pokémon as it regarded her warily, "Ri ri."
"Don't worry," said Ruby, "I'm not going to hurt you."
The Pokémon paused for a moment before closing its eyes and raising a paw towards her as what she thought were its ears slowly lifted up, as if drawn up by an unseen force, and suddenly Ruby felt something from the small Pokémon that she didn't expect to feel at all in this new world. The feeling of Aura emanating from the small creature and resonating with her own in a way that felt comforting and familiar.
Eventually, the feeling faded and the Pokémon lowered its paw and opened its eyes, regarding her with a curious expression.
"Olu?" it asked as it slowly moved closer to the girl.
"What was that?" asked Ruby, "Did you just use Aura? And why did it feel so familiar?"
Ruby shifted her weight slightly and immediately regretted it as pain shot through her sprained ankle, "Owww."
"Ri?" said the blue Pokémon as it walked to her side with a concerned look, "Rio?"
"It's alright," said Ruby, "I just wasn't looking where I was going. I just need to find my friends."
It was at that moment that the voices of the other members of Team RWBY were heard calling out for their lost leader, prompting Ruby to perk up.
"Yang! Weiss! Blake!" she called out, "I'm over here!"
Upon hearing these strangers approaching, the blue Pokémon tensed and faced towards the noise, growling slightly, prompting Ruby to try and calm it down.
"Don't worry," Ruby told the Pokémon, "They're my friends. They're not going to hurt you."
The Pokémon looked hesitant to stand down, and when Yang burst through the trees, it quickly moved to a protective position between Ruby and her sister.
"Ruby!" exclaimed Yang before seeing the Pokémon, "Crap. Don't worry Rubes, everything will be alright."
"Rrrrrr," growled the Pokémon as it refused to move.
"Don't try it, short stuff," growled Yang in return as her eyes turned red as her Semblance flared up, "I don't care what you can do, but if you hurt my sister then I'll put you down."
"Woah woah woah woah!" exclaimed Ruby as she waved her arms frantically, "He didn't hurt me! He was just keeping me company!"
"Really now?" asked Yang skeptically as the other members of their group arrived in the clearing.
"What's that Pokémon?" asked Weiss as the blue Pokémon moved to glare at the three newcomers as it stood by Ruby protectively.
"Oh!" exclaimed Alex, "That's a Riolu. They're a rare species of Pokémon that are born with an exceptional talent for using Aura."
"Wait what?!" exclaimed Weiss in surprise.
"That Pokémon can use Aura?" said Blake in a subdued, but still definitely surprised tone.
"Yeah," confirmed Ruby, "when it used it, I could feel it resonating with my own. For some reason, after it did that, it seemed to be more trusting of me."
"I see," said Alex, "I've heard of Aura Resonance and studies into it made by Aura adepts that are familiar with the concept, but I've never encountered it. In any case, we should get your leg looked over."
Alex placed a calming hand on Yang's shoulder to get her to stand down and took a step forward, freezing in place when Riolu growled at him in response.
"Easy there," said Alex to the small Pokémon, "we don't mean you any harm. I just want to help Ruby."
Riolu looked at the researcher warily and a few tense seconds passed before it stepped aside, allowing Alex to walk over and inspect Ruby's ankle.
"Hmm," said Alex, "it's not bad, but not good either. Luckily I have just the thing."
Reaching into his pack, Alex pulled out a marble-sized sphere that he enlarged into a Poké Ball with a push of a button. Pressing the button again caused the Ball to open as a burst of white energy shot out and formed into a friendly looking Pokémon with cream colored skin and pink splotches that resembled a frilly jacket on its torso.
"Audino," said the new Pokémon cheerily.
"Meddy," said Alex, "if you could tend to Ruby's ankle. I think a Heal Pulse will do until we can get it looked at."
"Dino," nodded Meddy as she turned toward Ruby, only to have her path blocked by the Riolu as it growled protectively.
"Dino, Au Audino," said Meddy kindly to Riolu as she tried to explain, "Audino Au."
Riolu listened to Audino's explanation before nodding and stepping aside to let the Pokémon approach Ruby and inspect her ankle. Once close enough it held out its hands as a soothing green light shone from them, causing the pain and bruising to fade away.
"Audino," said Meddy happily as she finished up before returning to her Poké Ball.
"That feels better," smiled Ruby as she got up, "thanks."
"Not a problem," said Alex, "now, we should continue on our way."
Ruby nodded and kneeled down before Riolu, "Thanks for keeping me company little guy, but we have to get going now."
"Riolu?" asked the small Pokémon, a hint of sadness in its expression as it quirked its head to the side.
"Bye," said Ruby as the group headed on their way, "thanks for the company."
As the group head off, the Riolu watched as they faded into the distance before leaping into the trees, following in their direction.
To be continued…
