Zach POV

It was the next morning, I'd woken up feeling surprisingly rested. The food last night was amazing and the company wasn't bad either.

'Ah, my head' Grant groaned as he sat up in bed.

'Mine too' Jonas rubbed his eyes. 'Whatever they put in the truth serum, it's really dehydrated us. How do you feel Zach?'

'Fine. I ate before bed. It stops the headaches' I got out of bed, finding a white shirt to put on.

'How did you know to do that?' Jonas asked

'From Cammie of course' Grant muttered. I paused.

'What's that supposed to mean?' I growled

'You know what I mean. Cammie seems to know everything and I mean everything. She's in control'

'Grant, I don't think that's the case'

'We went to London because she said we had to. We left London because she said we had to. We're here because she said we had to. How about we just steal some of that truth serum and inject it into her. Finally get some answers'

Quick as a flash, I had him pinned against the wall. My hand around his throat.

'You lay so much as a finger on her, and that's the last thing you'll do' I hissed

'Zach stop' Jonas pulled me back

'Seriously? You're taking the side of a girl you barely know over your best friend? Dude, I thought we were brothers'

My grip on Grant lossened. He was right. I was trusting Cammie over him.

'Look, I get it. She's attractive and she's giving you attention. But maybe a bit of space will be good for a while'

'I agree with Grant' Jonas said 'We've got to make sure we're fully focused for whatever will happen next'

I clicked my jaw.

'Fine. But I trust her' I said

'Then trust me more' Grant grumbled. We all calmed down at that moment. Jonas was still watching us carefully waiting for a punch to be thrown. 'I'm starving. Anyone else?'

.

We made our way to the grand hall where Cam & I ate last night. She told me that there's a sign just above the door telling all the students what language to speak in & that it changes every meal. Thankfully this morning, it was English.

We entered the massive hall to see row upon rows of tables filled with Gallagher girls. A lot of them looked up when we entered and began whispering.

'You boys slept okay?' Bex asked, carrying a plate of breakfast.

'Good. Thank you' I said.

'Well, help yourself to breakfast. We're sitting over there' She pointed to a table in the corner where Macey & Liz were already sitting. I guess Cam might still be getting food.

We piled up our plates with fresh pastries, bacon, eggs, sausages, fruit, everything.

In our line of work, when you don't know when your next good meal (or meal in general) will next be, you take advantage of the food in front of you as much as possible.

We made our way towards the table with the girls. Macey was flicking through some magazines. Liz had her nose in a book & Bex's gaze was on the other side of the room.

'Where's Cammie?' I asked

'Over there' Bex nodded in the direction she was looking. I followed her gaze, at the far side of the room, there was a large clump of girls sitting and standing in a circle. In the centre of it all was Cammie, animatedly telling them a story, everyone was captivated by her; their eyes wide and mouths open in amazement. I saw Cammie smile, and found a smile tugging on my lips.

'Why is she so popular?' Jonas asked

'She's not just a Gallagher Girl. She's the Gallagher Girl' Macey quipped.

'I don't follow' He said.

'Cam, got top scores on everything. On paper and in practice, she's the perfect field agent. Every agency and I mean every single one, even the top secret ones in Russia. All of them wanted her to work for them' Bex added

'She's not just good, she's the best' Liz noted. I noticed that all of us guys had turned to watch Cammie.

This was a different side to her that I've never seen before. She had a certain glow about her, the way she spoke & the way she held herself, it was the most relaxed I had seen her since we met. It made me happy to see her like this.

'Are we settling in everyone?' We turned to see Professor Buckingham standing behind us

'All good, thank you Professor' Bex said 'Is there anything we can do for you?'

'There is Miss Baxter. As you are all aware, the school is now underground. Any activity above ground is prohibited to students apart from attending classes in the P&E barn. Which means that if you should decide to leave the grounds, you must be discreet'

'We understand' The girls said

'Thank you' I said on behalf of the guys. 'We really appreciate this'

'As long as you don't cause any issues with my girls, then you are more than welcome here. If you need anything at all, ask these girls' She gestured to Bex, Macey and Liz 'They truly are highly skilled' She looked above us 'Girls! No weapons at the table!' She stormed away to deal with some students who were fighting over some gadget.

A bell rang causing the girls to filter out slowly, yet the crowd around Cammie stayed. She was slowly trying to pull herself away, but the girls were following her, like a moth drawn to a flame. Cammie looked over in our direction. She mouthed 'help' quickly.

I began to stand up, but stopped myself when Bex & Macey stood up instead.

Bex wolf whistled causing silence to descend.

'Alright girls. Back it up' Macey announced 'The bell rang already. Move on'

The girls groaned but moved away. There was one girl left talking to Cammie.

'That's Princess Amirah' I told the boys

'Really?' Jonas raised his eyebrows

'So...does that mean we're going to do what Joe told us to do?' Grant looked at me carefully. I shook my head.

'She seems safe here. There's no need to act now'

.

Cammie POV

'Cammie look' Amy came up to me when everyone had disappeared 'I made you this'

She handed me a woven bracelet with a little charm on it.

'Aww it's beautiful'

'I've got a matching one too, look' She held out her own wrist 'I made it with Dr. Fibbs' help this morning. There's a little tracker in the charm, that way if I ever get lost again, you can find me again'

'Thank you Amy' I wound it around my wrist 'Here, can you tighten it for me'

Amy tied the bracelet with several knots she had learnt in class that she knew wouldn't come off.

'It fits!' She smiled.

'It does and I promise to keep it on. Now, why along to class. I'll see you in the P&E barn later'

'Bye, Cam!' Amy waved, running along to catch up with her friends.

'That was cute' Bex said

'They nearly ripped my arms off from wanting to talk to me' I rolled my shoulders 'So much for being the Chameleon'

'It's because you're the Chameleon that they want to talk to you' Bex playfully poked me.

'I noticed you didn't come to the room last night. Were you sleeping somewhere else?' Macey teased, raising an eyebrow.

'I was on the first watch with Professor Smith last night. He told me about the time he had to burrow under ten inches of ice in order to escape KGB scanners. Then on my way back, I noticed Buckingham's office light still on so I went and had a talk with her. I fell asleep on the sofa'

'Hey, Gallagher Girl' Zach joined us, smirking, 'The guys and I wanted to go into town & since we have to be careful, we were wondering if you girls wanted to chaperone us?'

'I don't know…' I began

'Oh come on Cam' Bex said 'What's the worst that can happen?' I glared at her. She knew what the worst thing would be. Bex arched an eyebrow, maintaining eye contact.

'Fine' I caved.

We made our way towards the elevator.

'So is there a special password you have to say to get out?' Zach asked.

'Not quite. We're leaving through a...different way' I smirked. The guys all looked at each other carefully.

I led everyone to the library, the fireplace was out. I knelt down and felt along the outside brickwork around the framing until I felt a loose brick. I shifted it 32 degrees to the right and heard a click. I then moved along until I felt an engraving of a flower. I pressed for exactly five seconds and heard another click. The bookcase directly next to the fireplace groaned as it popped open.

'Okay. I take back everything that I've said. That was pretty cool' Grant muttered. I smirked at him.

'This is only the beginning' I said. And disappeared into the passage. I just love Gallagher.

.

It was around eleven am. There wasn't a lot of pedestrian traffic on the town square in Roseville when we emerged from the tunnels. Also, despite the bright sun and cloudless sky, it was still pretty cold outside. I welcomed it.

We all split off to do various things. I instinctively was drawn to the gazebo which still stood in the centre of the square.

I could probably close my eyes, spin around until I'm dizzy and still know the exact position of the cinema behind me, where the pharmacy was located, the accessories store & the diner. What I didn't predict was the person standing behind me.

'So,' Zach said as he stretched out on the steps of the gazebo, 'come here often?'

I fought back the urge to roll my eyes. and found my gaze drifting to the loose stone which was once my first dead-letter drop. I wonder if there's a note left there?

'I used to' I shrugged 'but then the deputy director of the CIA made me promise to stop'

'Are you kidding?' Zach laughed.

'Nope. It was pretty serious'

Zach shook his head playfully. He then closed his eyes, tilted his head back and soaked in the sun as if he'd been coming to that gazebo his whole life.

'So what about you?' I found myself asking once the silence became too much 'Exactly where do the Blackthorne Boys call home?'

'Oh' He cocked an eyebrow 'That's classified'

I rolled my eyes.

'I guess I had that coming'

'You did' He straightened on the gazebo steps, placing his elbows on his knees, and stared at me.

'What's wrong?' He asked.

'Nothing. Why?'

'You've checked your surroundings seven times in the last five minutes. You're paranoid about something. What is it?'

'It's nothing Zach' I stood up 'I'm going to go for a walk'

I should have invited him, or waited for him to offer to join but I turned around and walked away from the gazebo. I made my way across the square, turning down a side street on the far side of the square, passing the pharmacy. A thought flashed into my mind, remembering a task the girls and I did in this very square. Brush passes. A small smile graced my lips. But that smile was wiped away with four simple words.

'Cammie, is that you?'

Author's note: Hello, hello, hello! I'm back once again! Thank you all for being patient with me not uploading last week; and for all those that are wondering, yes my other stories will be updated soon, I know I keep saying this but I've just had a lot on my plate. Annnnyway, what do you think of this chapter? Who is the person speaking at the end? See you all next week! xxx

covertoperative456: Amy will play a part in this story, but the main focus will be Cammie & Zach and the mystery surrounding their past. There's always something about Gallagher that's comforting for Cammie, it's her home and just a place of safety. Truth serum will play a part again at some point, but will Cammie be the one asking or answering the questions. xxx

Duchess12: Hahaahaha I can't let all my secrets out of the bag, I have been dropping hints when I answer people at the end of each chapter, some are more subtle, whereas others are more obvious. You'll just have to wait and see! Yeah, I loved Zach's dialogue and Grant's quips in the last chapter. Zach definitely trusts Cammie more than he realises. I completely agree, that one special person can mean so much and do so much to you xxx

gymnast1150: I know! I love rollercoaster chapters! Broken-Zach is my favourite too, right next to Cocky-Zammie. Aww thank you so much! My favourite moments in this story change so much too. The more I write, the more I fall in love with these characters. You've summarised all my favourite parts. I love taking the readers on a journey with serious moments having a one-line that makes you giggle, and then happy moments that end up becoming sombre. Professor Buckingham & Amy will be minor characters in this, so will some of the other teachers. Oh trust me, Gut-wrenching is on the way and so is the romance. But like I always say, in good time. xxx

Smiles180: Zammie moments are my favourite. They will open up with each other soon...although an interrogation table might be in between them. Zach knows practically nothing about Gallagher. I think he's heard whispers about Gallagher Girls but nothing concrete. xxx
