The following morning, Deeks attention was drawn away from his super important task of once again counting floor tiles by the sound of a quiet voice.
"What. Happened. To me?" Kensi asked in between breaths.
"Heyyy. You're awake." Deeks said, walking to Kensi's side and leaning in to give her a kiss. "How you feeling?"
"Pain…." Kensi grunted out as she opened her eyes more fully. "Deeks. Tell me. What happened."
"We were in a helicopter crash. In Syria. Do you remember any of that?
Kensi shook her head back and forth minutely, trying to minimize her pain.
"Why?" She choked out.
"We were hit with an RPG."
"No. Why were we in Syria?"
"To capture an HVT… you really don't remember any of that?'
"No." she mumbled trying to stay awake. "Why does it hurt?"
"Do you remember anything the doctors said last night?"
"No…" Kensi slurred out.
"Ok. In the crash you hurt your spine and have a spinal cord injury. Right now you're just having a bit of trouble controlling your left side, but the doctors think it's probably temporary?"
"…probably?"
"Yea. Yea, it's just gonna take some time though, ok? We just have to wait and see. It's ok."
"Hurts. So bad." Kensi murmured.
"Oh, here." Deeks said as he placed the button in Kensi's right hand. "Here. The nurses got this set up for you. Just press this and it will dispense some pain relief."
As Deeks was placing it in her hand, Kensi immediately started fumbling for control of it and pushed the button down with her thumb multiple times as soon as she was able to grip it.
After a few minutes, Kensi let out a sigh.
"Is it working? "Deeks asked.
Kensi slowly rolled her head to face Deeks, licking her lips before replying with a quiet "yea."
Deeks sighed a bit in relief, knowing that Kensi wasn't in too much pain for the time being.
