A little while later, the medication was starting to wear off. Kensi had repeatedly tried hitting the button for pain relief, but the machine wouldn't dispense it until a set interval had past since her last dose. Kensi lay on her back in bed, rocking side to side trying to get comfortable.
A little later, the doctor returned to check on Kensi now that she was awake.
"How are you feeling today Ms. Blye?" Dr. Adams asked.
"Mhmmm." Kensi just grunted.
"Can you rate your pain on a scale of 1 to 10?" She asked.
"...8." Kensi whispered.
Deeks closed his eyes and let out a slow breath. She admitted to being in pain. A lot of pain. And the scariest thought was that she was still probably down playing it.
"Is there anything you can do?" Deeks asked the doctor.
"In way of pain management, for the time being, no." The doctor said sadly. "She's maxed out on pain relievers for now."
Kensi moaned again in pain.
"It's ok, baby." Deeks said getting up to kiss her forehead. "You're ok."
Deeks turned his attention back to the doctor. "Then what can we do?"
"For now, not a whole lot. At least until she's more mobile. We just have to be patient." the doctor said.
Deeks felt helpless as he stood beside Kensi's bed stroking her hair.
A few hours later, Kensi was once again able to take another dose of medication. Within 5 minutes, she appeared sufficiently high and in considerably less pain.
"How you doing there, partner?" Deeks asked her quietly.
Kensi snorted. "I love that. Partners. It's so mysterious."
What are you talking about? Deeks asked smiling
"Are we in a relationship, are we buddy cops, are we cowboys? Who knows?"
"I gotta say, I'm enjoying slightly high Blye."
Kensi sighed. "Me too."
"How are we feeling now, Ms. Blye?" Kensi's doctor asked as she walked into her room late that evening.
"My tongue doesn't fit in my mouth anymore." Kensi said slowly raising her hand up to touch her mouth.
"I think she's feeling pretty good." Deeks said.
