Etude Op. 25, No. 5 in e minor ("Wrong Note")

Clunk! Clunk!

Shuhei was furious- furious at himself, and very, very embarrassed. He had noticed something in his sock (maybe a pebble, maybe some lint), and sat down to shake it out, when he was startled by a toppling timpani. He jumped up, planting his foot directly into a glass vase. And now it was stuck.

He was due onstage any minute.

Furiously, he tugged at the vase, to no avail. The announcer was calling his name: he was out of time. Face flaming, he hobbled onto the stage. The vase clinked against the floorboards.

Someone snickered in the audience. Someone coughed.

He began playing, trying desperately to forget his mortification. Pavlas-sensei is going to murder me.

Author's notes: The more I listen to this etude, the more I like it. It sounds goofy but it's charming. It grows on you. This scene was inspired by Buzzfeed's very hilarious video When Something Stupid Goes Horribly Wrong, on Youtube.
