Playmaker's POV
"Don't you think this running around and waiting is ridiculous?", Ai asked.
"No, and you know why..", I reminded Ai.
"Unfathomable, do you really intend to wait out the Duel Anchor's timer, or yank us around until we deactivate it?", Cypher asked.
Maybe it would be better if I provided some context. Morningstar is one of many people out for Ai and has used a Duel Anchor that prevents me from logging out from Link VRAINS for 24 Hours. Until help arrives, I chose to run around wildly. This might seem very humorous if you are aware of my usual levelheadedness, and yes it has caused some humourous comments from Cypher, Morningstar's own AI.
As of the moment I have kept this up for 45 Minutes.
"Playmaker, are you really this dependent on your newfound allies?", Morningstar challenged me.
"Maybe not, but would you want to fight me at less than my best? Even if you think I'm violating my own sense of honor with this silly method of delay, you still have your own sense of honor even as a bounty hunter.", I countered.
"That's a weird way to argue it, but it doesn't matter, since WE'RE HERE NOW!", Yugo announced.
"You'll have to do this as a 1 versus 3, whether you want or not.", Mayoi added.
"Honestly, just choose for the triple hand card bonus and let them go first, so that we have the first Battle Phase then Playmaker's numbers will backfire on him, after all it would be unfair to want him at his best, but not pickt our own best options, wouldn't it?", Cypher taunted us.
"Heh, or how about a different kind of 'help'?", Another voice echoed.
An individual with one emerald green and a royal purple eye, dressed in a black coat with zigzagging purples lines and several symbols of unknown meaning looked down on us from a tower above.
"To make it simple", he pressed a button shooting out several duel anchors at each of us, "how about we team up and whoever does the last strike on Playmaker runs away as fast as he can or has to duke it out with the other one if he can't?"
"And who's that guy?", Mayoi asked.
"Well, there is more than just one party who wants one of these two AI's, and I'm certainly not on Morningstar's side, but on a different one. You'll find out which side exactly I'm on soon enough, but for my own VRAINS name, know me as Mammon."
"Then you will have to add me. Call me Lightning Hunter.", a third Person in a white suit of armor said.
"We may not be able to one-up Mammon's duel anchor, but we can force join your 2v3 or 1v1v3 or just duel a remaining duelist who didn't escape fast enough as Mammon put it.", the person's duel disk spoke.
"This feels almost comical.", Morningstar muttered.
"Can we use this weird situation to escape?", Mayoi asked.
"The timer of Morningstar's duel anchor hasn't run out and it will last for a whole day.", I explained.
"Note to ourselves, make an anti-anchor programm.", Ai said.
"Then let's have a 1v1v1v3. They won't know whether to take out Playmaker, us so we can't help him out or each other, so that nobody else will take Ai!", Yugo said.
"No, no, no. I wouldn't be one to give my opponents an Advantage.", Mammon said, "How about we use the Word Speed Dueling Grand Prix System? You all know how that tournament worked before Speed Duels dissapeared for a decade, do you?"
"Of Course, it was even programmed into all Lost Incident AIs, in case anyone Needs a refresh.", Cypher boasted.
"No Need.", Lightning Hunter said, "And I'll agree. But who will decide in which order we duel?"
"It was Mammon's Suggestion, Yuritzi. I doubt he will allow us a choice.", the Ai said.
"That other AI is correct.", Mammon said, "my programm allows me to choose the order of each. Playmaker's Team will begin with him, then follows ScytHeart and Ultimate Speed Rider will be the final duelist. On my Team Lightning Hunter will have the first strike and before me, Morningstar will be given a chance."
"Preposterous! You're assuming that we will all loose to Playmaker!?", Cypher complained.
"Uh, no, I think he suspect Playmaker to have a way of passing Ai onto his partners and that we will defeat Playmaker and ScytHeart, but ultimately fall short against Ultimater Speed Rider, whom we will easily overcome himself.", Thunder Hunter's Ai said.
"He could have that, Zero-Q?", Thunder hunter asked.
"We do. It's not like suprise factor will be of any use here.", I said, "otherwise I would put considerably less faith in them."
"Was that a compliment or not?", Yugo asked, confused.
"Doesn't matter.", I said, "let's begin. Ai, start a Speed duel."
"I'm already ahead of you. The Data Storm is already here.", Cypher said.
"I will still duel first.", Lightning Hunter insisted.
Playmaker (4000lp) vs Thunder Hunter (4000lp)
"I start! I summon Electrode Hunter (ATK: 1700), he allows me to summon Drone Klein (DEF: 500) from my deck.
Then I activate the continous spell Link Intervention from my Hand! With a Cyberse Monster on my field, I can Special Summon Electrode Wizard.
Show yourself, Circuit of Freedom! The Summoning condition is two monsters! I set the Link Markers with Drone Klein and Electrode Hunter!
LINK SUMMON! Come forth, Link 2, Gungnir: Sympher Hunter! (ATK: 1500 Markers: Down, Left) Whenever anyone of us Link Summons, Link Intervention gains one counter. (LIC: 0-1) Electrode Wizard allows me to add Hunter back to my Hand for just 200 Life Points! (Lightning Hunter LP: 4000-3800)"
"Just 200 Life Points?! Playmaker, we Need to get a copy of this card afterwards!", Ai told me.
"But her Link Monster has very attack Points, so unless you cannot summon a strong Monster, Thunder Hunter needs to boost it other ways before she can boost it by the strength of the monsters it defeats, gaining LP equal to that boost and gaining those generally only serves as a delay, so, in Laymans Terms, this is quite a dissapointing start.", Mammon said.
"He certainly isn't even bothering with a friendly Fassade.", Zero-Q noted.
"... why would he even? He made it clear this team-up is nothing but a tool.", Cypher asked, stumped. Never thought I'd see him like that.
"*sigh*, at least this isn't a duel of first impressions. But Gugnir was just a middlemachine anyway, Show yourself once more, circuit of my freedom! The summoning conditions are two or more monsters! I set the Link Markers with Electrode Wizard and Gungnir: Sympher Hunter! LINK SUMMON! Show yourself, Mechajaeger: King Fenrir! (ATK: 2300 Markers: Top, Bottom-left, Right LIC: 1-2) Since Gungnir was used as Link Material, I get to Special Summon something from the Deck, I choose another Electrode Wizard. (DEF: 1000)
I use his effect again (Lightning Hunter LP: 3800-3600) to add Gungnir to my Extra Deck.
I set one card and end my turn."
Mechajaeger: King Fenrir stood above Thunder Hunter as a white-armored humanoid wearing a trident-shaped crown holding a mace as its weapon.
"My turn, draw!", she didn't go all-out just now, so she must have assumed I would punish her for doing so, but she wasn't quite correct, "Since one Player has no monsters on their field, I can Special Summon Cyberse Dragon from my Hand. (ATK: 1900)
Then I activate Cynet Ritual, I Tribute Bittron and Cyberse Dragon to Ritual Summon Cyberse Magician! (ATK: 2500)
I attack Fenrir with Cyberse Magician, during battle with a Link Monster he gains 1000 ATK. (Magician ATK: 2500-3500)
Cyberse Magican created a Shining blue aura around himself and struck his staff against King Fenrir's Mace. The Mechajaeger did all it could to fight against it, but Cyberse Magician, simply increased its aura until the opposing monster shattered. (Lightning Hunter LP: 3600-2400)
"I set 2 cards and end my turn."
"I assume you laid low, so Playmaker would not unleash punishment for overextension, but as it turned out, there was never anything to fear, in laymans terms, you overestimated him.", Mammon summarised, "and I was planning on putting the strongest of you first..."
"Is he gonna repeat this until it gets annoying?", Yugo complained.
"You mean even more annoying. And don't start giving him ideas.", Ai said.
"My turn, draw! I summon Electrode Wizard and summon Apron Hunter from my deck. (DEF: 500) I add Gungnir back to my deck with Hunter's effect.(Lightning Hunter LP: 2400-2200) I use all of my monsters to summon Cyberse Jaegers: Thunder Code Talker (ATK: 2300 Markers: Up, Bottom-left, Bottom-right LIC: 2-3)"
A Code Talker with Grey armor, a golden crown, a sword of darkness and a Shield of Lightning appeared.
"A Code Talker?", Morningstar wondered.
"Then maybe there is more behind that AI as well.",Cypher noted, "Looks like this will get interesting in the future."
"Then I sacrifice two Intervention Counters (LIC: 3-1) so I get a second normal summon, I choose Cyberse Jaegers: Hunter Swordsman (ATK: 1500)
I use Thunder Code Talkers effect to Tribute Swordsman so I can increase his ATK. (ATK: 2300-3800) I attack Cyberse Magician!
Swordsman was engulfed by a sphere of Darkness, before merging with Thundercode's blade, when Thundercode struck, Cyberse Magician attempted a bit more this time than simply using his overwhelming aura and tried to create two barriers, one to guard himself, the second to detain Thunder Code Talker, but he only needed to light up the lightning of his Shield, to shatter both and slice apart Cyberse Magician with his blade.
(Magician ATK: 2500-3500 Playmaker LP: 4000-3700) "Then I end my turn."
"My turn, draw. I activate Call of the Haunted to revive Bittron, then Data Backup, to summon 2 more Bittrons from my deck. Then I link summon Powercode Talker with all of them (ATK: 2300 Markers: Left, right, Bottom-left LIC: 1-2) I use his effect to negate that of Thunder Code Talker (ATK: 3800-2300)
I attack Thunder Code Talker, destroying both. Then I revive Powercode with a second call and attack directly!"
Thundercode's Sword and Shield disappeared, before both monsters lunged at each other, shattering the other one with their raw fists.
"I use Mirror Force!", Lightning Hunter countered.
"And we almost had her. And we barely took damage.", Mayoi muttered.
"Then let me change that.", Thunder Hunter said, "My turn, draw! I activate my skill Lightning Draw! I pay 1000 Life Points! (Thunder Hunter LP: 2200-1200) I draw a single card and if it's a Monster it's summoned. Yes! I drew Tranx-Cannon 7 and summon it (ATK: 2200)
With its effect I can discard both cards in my Hand and draw 2 new ones. I summon Liger Panzer (ATK: 1600)
I attack directly with Tranx-Cannon 7! (Playmaker LP: 3700-1500) Then with Liger Panzer."
"Seems like they spoke too soon.", Morningstar noted.
"How about we simply use a skill other than Storm Access?", Mayoi suggested.
"With Healing staff I gain 200 Life Points for every Monster on the field. (Playmaker LP: 1500-1900-300)"
"So, you've barely survived and at the cost of Storm Access. As if that anything to boast about.", Mammon scoffed.
"My turn, draw! I summon Draconet and with its effect, Bittron from my deck, then I Special Summon Backup Secretary from my Hand. Now I link summon Gaia Saber the Lightning Shadow (ATK: 2600 Marker: Down, Left, Right) I attack Liger Panzer (Lighnting Hunter LP: 1200-200)
"Please, that is just a bunch of attack points. I thought your Comeback would be a bit more grand.", Cypher said.
"Unfortunately it might enough.", Thunder Hunter noted, looking at her drawn card.
"You can't be serious, you consider giving up? You can still survive more turns!", Zero-Q noted.
"Of course I can. But right now he has merely one Monster. What if I don't get a Monster with more ATK? He will build up an even stronger field. That would just prevent Morningstar and Mammon from getting this AI.
And Playmaker is a harder target than either of them. If I don't get anything better than a weak Monster with Tranx Cannon now, I'll attack into into Lightning Shadow, so I can leave a card for Morningstar."
"Uh, considering the current Situation, uh- you know what, keep doing it.", Yugo said.
"Thunder Hunter doesn't seem to be lying or ovcerconfident. And remember, Playmaker managed to stall until Morningstar's forced duel started.", Mayoi said.
"Yeah, it was a pretty weird Scene."
"Still, to be banking on winning the aftermath of this duel...", Cypher muttered.
"Don't tell me she intentionally played along with Mammon's plan on softening them up.", Morningstar said.
"Just to be sure a comeback isn't an option, I use Tranx-Cannon's effect once again.", she drew, " I set a card and summon Arpon Hunter and attack Gaia Saber! (Lightning Hunter LP: 200-2300=0)"
Thre small drone raced towards the tip of Lightning Shadow, shattering itself on Impact.
WINNER: Playmaker
Morningstar (4000lp) vs Playmaker (300lp)
"Since it was Lightning Hunter's turn when she lost, you will get your turn first, but you will not be able to attack.", Morningstar said.
"I use Aurora Draw, then I summon Cyberse Gadget, reviving Bittron with ist effect, now I Special Summon Cyberse Converter.
With Bittron and Gaia Saber, I Link Summon Firewall Dragon (ATK: 2500 Markers: Down, Up, Left, Right)
Then, using Gadget and Converter, I summon Link Bumper at Firewall's marker. (ATK: 1500 Markers: Up, Right)
I also summon a Token (DEF: 0) as Gadget got sent to the GY. As Firewal Dragon is co-linked, I get to add Aurora Draw back to my hand. I use it and set both drawn cards. Your turn."
"Not going down without a fight even if you can't create an insurmountable wall, just as expected. I would be dissapointed if yo were joking about using your full strength and just gave up, like our earlier 'partner'.", Cypher said.
"Hey! Our surrender, as opposed to foolishly struggling is going to help you here.", Zero-Q complained.
"You can be the coward giving up, or the fool who doesn't know his limits, both don't change anything about loss or victory.", Mammon said.
"You're not gonna say it in layman's terms again?", Lightning Hunter asked, "And we shouldn't concern ourselves with Cypher's and Mammon's opinion of our attacks, Zero-Q. As long as we get our gands on Ai in the long run, I don't regret anything in this duel."
"I know you're not on our side, but whyyyy?! Please no more explaining hell!!", Ai whimpered.
"Uh, I think that's an overreaction and we should just continue with Morningstars turn.", Mayoi suggested.
"Fine by me. My turn, draw. I use Tranx-Cannon 7's effect, discarding Cyspirit Teleporter and Saver, then I banish Teleporter from the GY to revive Saver, then I Special Summon Cyspirit Linker from my Hand. I tribute Tranx-Cannon 7 to summon Cyspirit Wanderer.
With all of those monsters, I summon Cyspirit Pied Pikeman (ATK: 2200 MARKERS: Up, Right LIC: 1-2)
I remove both counters from Link Intervention to normal summon Cyspirit Sorceress, who allows me to revive Saver.
Next, I summon Vivacious Vixen, using Sorceress as material (ATK: 1200 Marker: Right LIC: 0-1) And wih Saver I summon Cacophonic Caller (ATK: 500 Marker: Down LIC: 1-2)"
Before us stood a Grey skeletal warrior in a medieval red/blue guardsmen uniform with binary codes in his clothes and as the name said, it carried a larhe spear. Behind it a Silver skeletal fox in Silver and red armor and next to it a Skeleton with a noisy Radio and phone, but I knew they wouldn't stay there for long.
"Wait, those could be the materials for-, did you solve the problem with that card?", Mayoi wondered.
"Maybe he simply has a different Link 5 that isn't as strong as Seraphim.", Yugo hoped.
"We need to get a Link 5 for ourselves as soon as possible.", Ai said.
"Come forth, circuit that exists between light and Darkness! Arrowheads confirmed, the summoning conditions are two or more Cyspirit Link Monsters, I set he Link Markers with Cyspirit Pied Pikeman, Cyspirit Vivacious Vixen and Cyspirit Cacophonic Caller! Circuit Combine, LINK SUMMON! Come forth, Link 5, Cyspirit Superior Seraphim. (ATK: 3300 Markers: All except Top, Left and Right)
I will use Soul Charge reviving Cyspirit Linker and Sorceress, and via his effect increasing Seraphims ATK by 1000 in Exchange for that many Life Points (Morningstar LP: 4000-3000 Seraphim ATK: 3300-4300)"
A large skeletal giant, with gold and silver Robes and Radiant wings, and blue eyes, with a small red light shining within them, Link VRAINS shook briefly upon its summon, but this time, the duel went on, instead of this Monster overloading the Network.
"What a show-off, boosting his Monster even though it's indestructible.", Yugo muttered.
"A Link 5? I knew you were anything but weak, but now it's getting really interesting.", Mammon chuckled, "though I wonder what this 'issue' was."
"Probably just crashing the duel, but can he take out all of their Life Points with it?", Thunder Hunter wondered, "Though for us it won't matter, since we have to take it from the winner either way."
"Seems like it won't be that easy for you to even wear Morningstar down, if not impossible.", Zero-Q noted.
"Regardless, I will deal with this differently than your partner.", I said, "And while Superior Seraphim prevents me from using card effects during his attacks, I use Security Block on Firewall Dragon before that, now there won't be any battle damage this turn and you will only be able to destroy Link Bumber."
" Then I destroy Link Bumper and end my turn."
Seraphim made its staff appear and destroye Link Bumper with a blast of light
"I activate Raigeki, destroying all of your monsters, except for Seraphim. Then I summon Cyberse Wizard and activate my face-down Firewall Spiral Force! Instead of attacking with Firewall, I double Wizards ATK for this turn. (ATK: 1800-3600)
Then I attack Superior Seraphim with Cyberse Wizard! (Morningstar LP: 3000-2700)
I end my turn. (Cyberse Wizard ATK: 3600-1800)"
Cyberse Wizard fired a lightning from his staff at Seraphim, but only its Robes were even damaged and only for a few Moments.
"Weren't you a bit hasty here?", Cypher said.
"Spiral Force can't boost Firewall Dragon itself, you would have just attacked Firewall with Seraphim and I would have a useless trap card clogging up my partner's field for future duels. So make your final strike."
"You think it would be that easy? Maybe I won't let you flail around, while building my field for the next duel as Thunder Hunter expected you to do, but I will still prepare for the next one. I summon Cyspirit Resonator (ATK: 1000) and revive Saver with its effect, I choose to keep its Level at 2.
I tune the Level 2 Cyspirit Resonator and Cyspirit Saver! Power of Miracles! Grant me the tools to victory! SYNCHRO SUMMON! Show yourself, Level 4, Cyspirit Wondrous Weapon! (DEF: 1500) I equip it to Seraphim, this allows me to waive battle damage after an attack to attack another Monster, or to double battle damage in Exchange to letting the Monster live.
I destroy Firewall Dragon and in exchange for not inflicting damage, I proceed to attack Cyberse Wizard! (Playmaker LP: 300-1500=0)"
Morningstar's monsters used its staff to drain all Color from the world into its orb, creating a blast that destroyed both of my monsters one after another.
WINNER: Morningstar
Morningstar (2700lp) vs ScytHeart (4000lp)
POV 2 Mayoi
Cannot be destroyed and cannot be removed from the field by card effects, that is pretty card to get rid off, but I have just the way to do that.
Though I'm not gonna use something like Radian, which Yusaku might have drawn, had this duel gone on for longer.
"I won't even wait to use my skill, go Unleashed Nightmare! Yavix the Disgraced Nightmare will be added to my Extra Deck, and I can summon him with my next Fusion Summoning effect, regardless of what that would summon otherwise.", I began.
"So it can equip a Monster to itself, ts, to think you'd defeat Seraphim that easily...", Morningstar muttered, as he checked its card effect.
"I've never seen something like this, it manipulates the users deck, but seems to be entirely disconnected from Storm Access. We should keep tabs on them in the future, even after aquiring Ai.", Zero-Q noted.
"I activate Horrible Fusion, and I combine PhanTorch and ScareClaw! Power of ten years ago, return to this world to set right what once went wrong! FUSION SUMMON! Come forth, Level 7, Yavix the Disgraced Nightmare! (ATK: 2700) I equip Superior Seraphim to it, as he's staying on the field, he is not protected against this. (ATK: 2700-6000) Then I attack you directly!"
a large knight appeared, with the curves of scythes for legs and insectoid wings with eye-shaped patterns, as if a dragonfly turned into a fallen angel.
"I wished I could've used Hurricane Heavensgate, but I guess this skill will also do. I activate Counterdraw, instead of losing all of my Life Points, they just get halved. (Morningstar LP: 2700-1350) I can also add any card from my deck to my hand."
"I can only negate effects, not skills by sending the equipped monsters to the GY, so I'll end my turn.", I said.
"My turn, draw. Looks like you have something to negate now, I activate Snatch Steal."
"Obviously I don't even have a choice, but to negate it. (Yavix ATK: 6000-2700)"
"With Monster Reborn I revive Cyspirit Pied Pikeman, since I summoned it to the zone below to your Yavix, I can change it to Defense Position (DEF: 1800) with Pikeman's effect and destroy your face-down card. Then I attack and destroy Yavix. Your turn again."
"I set a monster and pass.", I said.
"Is this all she could do? I assumed she'd be more of a challenge.", Cypher said.
"Who's to say I didn't draw the perfect card to break this stalemate before it even began?", I said confidently.
"So you're saying that card has a good flip effect or one that activates upon destruction.", Cypher said.
"Then maybe be careful.", Thunder Hunter suggested.
"Unless she wants you to not attack.", Mammon said, but he sounded like he simply wanted a reason to talk with a cocky voice.
"No, she doesn't seem like a fool-", Morningstar said.
"Why are you looking at me like that!?", Yugo complained.
"-but she seems too good-natured to bluff. Maybe she'll benefit from this, but we won't loose if we attack it, so we should.
I set a card and attack with Pied Pikeman."
"As you might have guessed, my face-down monster was Morphingjar. We both have nothing to discard, but since it's not a cost we draw five cards regardless."
"You were confident in this card, but are you really sure you haven't actually dug your own grave just now?", Morningstar asked.
"At the worst, I am gonna take away a few more of your Life Points, so Ultimate Speed Rider can defeat you instantly! My turn, draw!
I summon HorReaper SpecTome, when normal summoned, it can summon back a HorReaper from the GY without any stats, I choose ScareClaw
Then I banish Horrible Fusion to fuse them into CrimiNail. (DEF: 400) He can inflict 800 damage to you at the cost of banishing a HorReaper from my GY.
And when PhanTorch is banished you take 600 damage (Morningstar LP: 1350-750)"
"Too bad I drew another copy of Cyspirit Saver, I summon Him to the field in defense Position (DEF: 1300) now I won't take effect damage for the rest of the turn."
"Then I Link Summon HorReaper ResurrecTalon using CrimiNail (ATK: 666 Marker: Bottom-left) he revives Nail's materials. Too bad I can't send ScareClaw to the GY for 800 points of damage, but I can still destroy your monsters and deal battle damage.
Because now I banish Horrible Fusion to conduct a Fusion summon, but only with monsters from the field, I turn all of my monsters into HorReaper CronuScythe (ATK: 2200), I banish all of his three materials to destroy Pied Pikeman and Saver.
Then I set three cards and attack directly. Edge of Time!"
"I activate the effect of Cyspirit Extra Generator from my hand, since I have less Life Points than CronuScythe has Attack Points, I discard him to summon any non-link Cyberse Monster from my Extra Deck. I choose Cosmic Crusader (ATK: 2800)"
CronuScythe swung its namesake weapon at Morningstar, but suddenly it glitched and the scythe dissappeared. Then another skeletal knight appeared.
This guy wore a blood-red cape and was decorated with octogramms on a few spots, his shield however was hexagonal, though it did have the eight-pointed star on it and a Silver sword was sheathed inside of it.
"Then I'll end my Battle Phase and turn.", I said.
"Geez, we almost had him without losing Life Points.", Ai muttered.
"You know that he will defeat/or take out most of her Life Points now that you said this?", Zero-Q said.
"Like keeping my mouth shut would've changed anything.", Ai said.
"You rarely say anything meaningful, so your silence indeed would be irrelevant.", Mammon said.
"My turn, draw! I activate Cyspirit Ritual, I Tribute 2 monsters from my hand to Ritual Summon Cyspirit Digital Dragoon (ATK: 2500)
Then I use Extra Cyclone, since I have a Synchro and a Ritual Monster, I can destroy two of your face-down cards.
I attack CronuScythe with Cosmic Crusader! (ScytHeart LP: 4000-3400)
I attack directly with Digital Dragoon!"
The name sounds that way, but Dragoon's are not actually another form of dragons, but apparently some form of cavalry, but considering how the card King Dragoon Looks, maybe they were named after Dragons.
"I activate Horrible Return, I can revive a HorReaper that wasn't destroyed by battle with 500 Extra ATK!", I countered.
"I use Cosmic Crusaders effect, I banish Vixen from the GY to negate that card and grant him another attack, but first, Dragoon's attack concludes! (ScytHeart LP: 3400-900) Then I attack with Cosmic Crusader!"
I was about to let CronuScythe rise from the grave, but Crusader kept him in there with a shield bash.
"I discard HorReaper ShaMask, this negates the damage!"
"I end my turn."
"My turn..."
"Oh no."
"Maybe you wouldn't toy around me just to build a stronger field with Ultimate Speed Rider, since I could inflict damage any time, but I can't take that risk, even if I don't have anything leftover for him, or maybe this is more of a 'going out on my own Terms thing', but I summon ShaMask and attack Digital Dragoon! (ScyHeart LP: 900-2500=0)"
WINNER: Morningstar
Ultimate Speed Rider (4000lp) vs Morningstar (750lp)
POV 3 Yugo
So it's down to me, at least Morningstar barely has any LP left and no trap cards, so a Crystal Wing should solve this.
"You better not mess this one up.", Ai reminded me.
"Unfortunately, I drew nothing to expand my field, so I have to pass.", Morningstar said.
"Your end.", Mammon said.
"He may have only 750 Life Points left, but aren't you getting a Little ahead of yourself?", Zero-Q said.
"I can see it, you have what you need to summon Crystal Wing. If you attack Cosmic Crusader, you can end it now.", Mammon stated.
"Heh, you're right, but also not. First I summon Speedroid Den Den Daiko Duke, then I Special Summon Taketomborg from my Hand. I Synchro Summon, Speedroid Kendama with them. Since a tuner left the field, I activate my skill Tune Down, to summon a tuner with a lower Level from my deck, I pick Red-Eyed Dice. Then I Synchro Summon Clear Wing Synchro Dragon. I set two cards and, I activate Speed Revival to summon Red-Eyed Dice back to the field, and as Mammon said, I summon Crystal Wing, but I won't attack Cosmic Crusader, I attack Digital Dragoon!"
"You're not taking us out? Why would you- no, it's what Thunder Hunter and ScytHeart feared.", Cypher realized.
"He doesn't want Mammon to have anything, so he takes a detour while defeating Morningstar.", Thunder Hunter said.
"I can hardly blame you.", Mammon said.
"I'll negate Crystal Wing's effect, because I'm not gonna leave it up to Mammon to win this. (Morningstar LP: 750-250)"
Crystal Wing started glowing in preparation of using his effect, but Digital Dragoon started rapidly striking him repeatedly giving him no choice, but to make the lethal strike immediately.
"I'll end my turn."
"Since Cosmic Crusader is occupying the Extra Monster, I can't summon anything with Cyspirit Ritual's effect..."
"We can negate Crystal Wing's ATK gain with Cosmic Crusaders effect, but These 2 face-down could be troubling.", Cypher noted.
"We'll just have to hope for the right card, my turn, draw!..."
"Looks like there's nothing left for you but a leap of faith, is it? Or do you", Mammon teased.
"Maybe not attacking would be better.", Thunder Hunter theorized, "no, wait, could negate you after you attempted to negate the attack gain, actually it doesn't matter who's attacking..."
"Actually, neither your or Cypher's theory is applicable, as the ATK gain is a Continous effect, you must be more worried than you let on.", Zero-Q said.
"What are you talking about, it's no-"
"Maybe, you should just accept that you'll have to wrest Ai's Control from me after this duel. And your fear of me taking Ai messing up your knowledge of the game is just so hilarious.", Mammon gloated.
"The ATK gain is a trigger effect. But he can negate Cosmic Crusader's Negation anyway. So I change Cosmic Crusader to Defense Position (DEF: 2300) , then I activate Called by the Grave, banishing Den Den Daiko Duke from your GY and end my turn."
"My turn, I activate Stop Defense on Cosmic Crusader."
"Looks like we did it.", Mayoi cheered.
"I attack you with Crystal Wing, anything to say?"
"I negate this effect with Crusader, by banishing Seraphim!"
"Then I'll negate and destroy it with Crystal Wing. (Crystal Wing ATK:3000-5800 Morningstar LP: 250-5800=0)"
Crusader's Shield began glowing, but this time, Crystal Wing was the one to strike him several times, giving him no chance to use the ability any further than that.
WINNER: Ultimate Speed Rider
Ultimate Speed Rider (4000lp) vs Mammon (4000lp)
"My, my, you really had to add a dramatic tidbit to your last move, didn't you?", Mammon said, "because the GY isn't carried over if you remember correctly."
"Or he assumed Speed Rider would actually forgot to negate Cosmic Crusader.", Thunder Hunter guessed.
"Well, sometimes you have to cling on to your last hope.", Zero-Q noted.
"And Mammon wanted him to be the last one for a reason.", Cypher said, "And most of our damage wasn't from him anyway."
"HEY! No time for sore losers now!", I yelled.
"H-hey, calm down, this isn't a competition.", Mayoi said.
"Actually, it's even more serious than that.", Ai said.
"But it means he should just focus on the duel at hand, not on anyone's comments.", Yusaku said, "So, in the end this reaction remains innappropriate"
"Anyway, time to begin my turn. Since Thunder Hunter's and ScytHeart's idea to take themselves out wasn't so idiotic after all,
I'll rebuild the field from scratch, I begin by activating the Continous Spell Network Corruption. I have to pay 500 Life Points each turn to keep it alive, but I can search a Level 4 or lower Corruption monster from my deck once per turn. I choose Paladin and summon it. (ATK: 1600)
As he has under 2000 ATK Points, I can Special Summon Corruption Gear from my hand. (DEF: 100)
Appear Corrupted Circuit that destroys all! The summoning conditions are two corruption monsters! I set the Link Markers with Corruption Gear and Paladin of Corruption! LINK SUMMON! Come forth, Corruption Necromancer! (ATK: 1600 Markers: Up, Down)
For only 500 Life Points (Mammon LP: 4000-3500) I get to revive my Corruption Paladin.
Show yourself again, Corrupted Circuit that destroys all! The summoning conditions are two or more Corruption monsters! I set the Link Markers with Corruption Necromancer and Paladin. LINK SUMMON! Descend now, Essence of Greed- Corruption Dragon (ATK: 2400 Markers: Up, Bottom-left, Bottom-right) And I fear you have saved Crystal Wing's Negation for too Long.
Because now I enhance my Wonderful Dragon with the equip card Dagger of corruption, it may demand me to sacrifice my Network corruption, but it gives him 300 ATK for every card on the field (ATK: 2400-4500)"
Corruption Dragon was covered in black and blue scaly armor, with four wings on its back, two big blue ones on the top, and a smaller pair of black ones below them. It had two horns on its forehead and two below its chin. The dragon's tail was split in two with a golden tip on each end.
Its eyes were silver with a creepy glow to them
"Crap, and I thought it'd be good to save my negation for the big monster.", I cursed.
"And to make it worse, Corruption Dragon allows Mammon to revive the monsters he defeats.", Mayoi said.
"Now, Corruption Dragon, strike down Crystal Wing Synchro Dragon! Judgement of Corruption!"
"I was annoyed I held back negating for too long, but my face-down card is still good enough! Follow Wing protects him from being destroyed!", I said. (Ultimate Speed Rider LP: 4000-2500)
"Really? That's how you choose to protect yourself? Since it would be a shame to wear out my favorite phrase in front of you, let me skip to the laymans terms. It's bad because 1. It gives battle protection to monsters that most likely aren't weak anyway, a card protecting all monsters would do that job better. 2. It prevents destruction by battle, but not the battle damage 3. It fixes that by saying 'yeah, the ones that might be too strong die.', why not make one of the 2 abilities stronger than putting two semi-contradictory ones on the same card."
"Now, I'm really afraid about what the long version could have been...", I muttered.
"I think there are more important issues here than Mammon's nitpicking, also, he stole Playmaker's catchphrase.", Ai said.
"Maybe I work better without the pressure, but geez, fine, my turn, draw! I summon Shave Boomerang and turn him to defense to slightly drop Corruption Dragon's ATK, but I'll decide to negate my own effect with Crystal Wing to boost his ATK. (Crystal Wing ATK: 3000-5000)"
"That one isn't even worthy a comment.", Mammon scoffed.
"Then I destroy your Corruption Dragon! Attack, Crystal Wing, Doom Dive Whirlwind Slasher!"
"Nope, I use my Spellbinding Corruption Circle, your Dragon's ATK Drops to 0 and he loses his effects until you get rid of it."
"I'll do you one better! I use Assault Mode Activate! I tribute Crystal Wing to show you his true form, come forth Crystal Wing Synchro Dragon/Assault Mode! (ATK: 3500) Also, your Dragon looses some ATK, since my face-down trap isn't here anymore, oh yeah and Follow Wing leaves the field too. (Corruption Dragon ATK: 4500-4200-3900)"
The spiky crystalline legs of Crystal Wing, transformed into actual legs to stand on and his body took on the Colors of the rainbow, somewhat reminiscent of Dark Requiem Xyz Dragon. However, its wings also grew bigger, became less jet-like and turned into actual dragonic wings while his claws gained a silvery shine.
"And when Assault Crystal Wing attacks, he can gain the ATK of any monster on the field or GY other than himself, so of course, I'll choose his original version! (ATK: 3500-6500 Mammon LP: 4000-1400)"
Assault Mode's Wings glew even brigher, causing Corruption Dragon to writhe in pain, allowing Crystal Wing to finish it with a simple strike of his claws.
"A Link Monster left the field, so my Dagger gets back to my hand."
"To think that he can evolve himself even further like that...", Morningstar muttered.
"Yes, I have to create Sentry Form cards for Links. Or maybe Sentry Stance. As long as it's got something to do with defense.", Cypher said.
"You seem barely worried Mammon.", Yusaku noted.
"I admit, this card isn't bad for its requirements, it's merely not enough to stop me. And this card will remove the one threat value it had. I activate Destroy or Draw, this destroys one Monster or lets me draw if you negate it. Do I have to explain to you why this doesn't have the same issues as Follow Wing?"
"No, I'll negate it and boost Assault mode by the ATK and DEF of the original again."
"Great, now I use Magic planter on my circle, then I use Soul Charge to revive Corruption Dragon and Necromancer (Mammon LP: 1400-400).
Now I use Morningstar's Skill, Hurricane Heavensgate!"
"You could do this!? How.", Mayoi gasped, which isn't exactly something she does often.
"You'll pay for this, I'll-", Cypher said.
"Just shut up before you make an unfunny joke about suing me.", Mammon said, "I won't explain, but Zero-Q might have a guess."
"The duel anchors from before are actually a programm allow you to make superior copies of other ones."
"Cowardly Copycat!", Cypher called.
"Is it so? I'd say I have the simple, but efficient power of 'anything you can do, I can do better'. Imagine what I could do if I actually scooped up you AIs", he said smugly, "time to proceed with the card the Data Storm gave me!
I use both of my monsters to summon the Link 5, Cyspirit Assimilation Ascendant (ATK: 3500 Markers: all except left ,right and down) Since he now points to your Assault Mode Dragon and I lack any original Cyspirit monsters, his effects are negated and he Returns to his original ATK. I could summon a non-cyspirit monster by pushing yours out of he zones Ascendant points to, but I'm a simple man, I set 2 cards and use Moon Mirror Shield, his allows him to exceed any Monster by exactly 100 ATK, because, that's all I need.
Now, take out that dragon! (Ultimate Speed Rider LP: 2500-2400)"
Assimilation Ascendant was more than unusual. At first, it was just a weird Silver glitchy amorphous mass, but as it used its effect, it transformed into a combination of Crystal Wing Synchro Dragon/Assault Mode and Superior Seraphim, only to turn into a copy of Clear Wing Synchro Dragon once it finished its attack, which it did, by unleashing a red lightning without moving its own Body in the slightest.
"I will not give you the satisfaction of getting angry over how his card violates the principle of Cyspirits. And it's really ugly too.", Cypher said, and probably would have gritted his teeth, if he had a mouh.
"It lacks a specific summoning condition and has an effect explicitly summoning monsters outside of the archetype. If your spirit is that feeble, it is worthless anyway.", Mammon said.
"You choose not to use the monster summoning effect or boost yourself higher with Dagger? Is this the right time for you to boast and show off?", Morningstar questioned.
"He thinks he can scare us that way, so to him, it must be he perfect opportunity to do that.", Thunder Hunter said.
"Like it's gonna work on any of you, or anyone from my Team!", I said, "And by the way, I still get to revive my Crystal Wing as its Assault Mode form was destroyed. At the start of my turn I use Aurora Draw, then I activate Majestic Path, this sends Crystal Wing to the GY to revive Clear Wing and summon Majestic Dragon from my deck!
Then I summon Taketomborg from my Hand!
I Synchro summon with all of those! Come forth, Level 12, Majestic Clear Wing! (ATK: 3800)"
Unlike last time, Majestic Clear Wing had a streamlined turquoise-green Wyvern-like body, with white angelic wings.
"I guess that's fancy, even if you neglected giving him a fancy incantation.", Mammon said.
"I use his effect, he negates the power of Assimilation Ascendant, destroys him and inflicts damage equal to his ATK! What do you say here?"
"I activate Corrupted Wall of revealing Light, I destroy all cards I control, causing your card to lose its target. Then It gains 3 counters, since that's the number of cards destroyed. Now I cannot take damage lower than the amount of counters times 2000, but whenever I negate damage, one counter goes away. But the great thing about this card is that it doesn't get destroyed once it runs out of counters, it just goes back to my hand.", he said as a glitchy black-silver barrier was erected behind him, causing Clear Wing's radiant breath of fire to hit nothing.
"Gr, I attack you directly. (Corruption Counters: 3-2) Then I end my turn and I have to return Clear Wing to the Extra Deck, but at least I get to revive his non-Majestic Version into my main monster zone."
"I have to admit, if he could defend himself against both of those evolutions, it's looking dull.", Yusaku said.
"Uh, a little bit more hope, please?", Ai demanded.
"Yeah, Yugo is just simply gonna pull out Majestic Crystal Wing/Assault Mode.", Mayoi cheered.
"In this duel, one after another, a monster of incredible strength got crushed, how exhilarating.
Too bad I won't continue this trend for the time being, I'm just going to set a card. ", Mammon said.
"Most likely a trap card with a good effect. I don't think he's blufffing.", Morningstar said.
"Did we change our plan? I thought we were going to take Ai from him if we couldn't defeat all three ourselves.", Cypher wondered.
"Even though he is holding back and has a lot less life points, he feels like he is the superior one, so he is without a doubt a bigger threat than all of Playmaker's Team together.", Thunder Hunter said.
"I have to agree. He is most definetly an even greater threat than they are.", Zero-Q said.
"My turn, I set the card I drew. I made the effect of being too careful once, and it isn't something that suits me, so I attack directly!"
"I activate Corruption Guard. I take control of Clear Wing Synchro Dragon, but destroy him next end Phase, If I don't bring out a Corruption Monster.", dark tendrils erupted from Corrupted Wall of Revealing light, draining all color from Clear Wing as they dragged him towards Mammon's side.
"Ch, back to you.", I grit my teeth.
"I summon Paladin of Corruption, then I attack you with Clear Wing."
"I use Punch in the box, the attack is negated, Paladin of Corruption goes to the GY, and Clear Wing looses 1600 ATK. (ATK: 2500-900)"
"Guess this will last another one."
"My turn, I summon Terrortop (ATK: 1200) And attack the stolen Dragon! (Mammon LP: 400-100)"
"It's strange. He has far less Life Points, yet it feels like he is the one with the upper hand.", Yusaku noted.
"I guess you could call me... the true Devil of Link VRAINS and it's even more exhilariting that you say this before my final 2 turns.
DRAW! I summon Corruption Marionpet, he revives Paladin, then I link summon Corruption Ziegal. (ATK: 1600 Markers: Up, Down) He could also revive a Monster, but I'll hammer my point in even further, attacking Terrortop is enough. (Ultimate Speed Rider LP: 2400-2000)"
"I can only set a Monster."
Is this the end?
"I revive Paladin with Ziegal's effect and Link Summon Corruption Grimdead with both. (ATK: 2000 Markers: Left, Bottom-left, Bottom-right) I summon the last Paladin of Corruption and use Grimdead's effect to revive Corruption Dragon. To bad I won't get to steal your Monster for a poetic defeat with the way he is situated. But you can't get everything in life. I destroy your monster with Grimdead. Then I attack directly with Paladin."
"I banish Three-Eyed Dice to negate the attack."
"I knew you would pathetically defy me until the end just like Morningstar did to you, finish him Corruption Dragon." (Ultimate Speed Rider LP: 2000-2400=0)
WINNER: Mammon
POV 4 Mammon Hanoi VRAINS base
"Transfer succeeded.", my duel disk buzzed.
I boasted enough during the duel, so I teleported away without fanfare. "Wresting the AI from me after the duel is over." isn't nearly as easily as it sounds.
"I see you succeeded with your mission.", Revolver said.
"Yes, and Thunder Hunter and Morningstar will be next with their AI's.", I said.
"You're a Hanoi member!? Why did we never see you?!", Ai pestered me. Oh, yeah, I didn't mute him.
"Have you never seen one of the regular Knights be a lot stronger than you'd exect from those footsoldiers? That was me.", I lied as I muted him. In actuality, even the strength of our base has increased radically. But if he somehow escapes, it would be great if he had a lot of false information about us.
"Bring him to the room.", Revolver ordered
"Alright.", I said. I went to the Ai storeroom. Inside it is a "Special" electromagnetic field (because "regular" EMP, could not work on these. We've tried in the past)
And with that we have gathered the first out of twelve. Project Ether isn't so far away anymore.
The next anniversary duel will be the following:
Eline Kinnie, my OC from Crit Fail's Railway of Despair, Leiko from Arc-VOC and Nazo Noryoku from NoxisZero's Fighting for our Future vs Curran, Ai and Mayoi from Arc-VRAINS
This time, I'll explain once the Special is done and posted.
In case you wondering why I didn't put in any mental banter from the other yu-Boys.
The reason is: I didn't think of it immediately and since Yugo has the fewest duels in Arc-VRAINS, I'll give him the limelight before his inevitable loss here. And it makes the chapter Shorter.
Morningstar was the middle duelist because I wanted him to face against all three of my characters.
The ending was made this way, so this one-shot feels a Little like it could have been taken out of a different Story.
If this makes the Specials better, or if I shouldn't bother too hard with the excuse plots for These duels, you'll have to tell me.
Handling OC decks not made by me is not anything new for me (see HorReapers and Creepers from the main Story), but three at once for the first time, even if it was 'just' in succesion, was a challenge.
But I'm not satisfied with how Seraphim, Yavix, Crystal Wing Synchro Dragon/Assault Mode, Assimilation Ascendant and Majestic Crystal Wing all got defeated pretty quickly. (Mammon getting exstatic about it was my attempt to convince myself that it didn't make the chapter worse) I didn't plan for it too happen this way, but I didn't notice it until it was too late for rewrites. I hope I'll do better next time.
