...

Naomasa sat in one of the waiting rooms with Izuku. His hand rested on top of the wolf's head as izuku tried to regain a semblance of control. Normally quirks were not allowed to be used in the courthouse. It was a matter of safety for those who came in. They made an exception for Izuku just this once. Like Naomasa they could see the comfort it brought him not to be human for a short time.

When the recess was over Sansa would take his place. Izuku reacted better to Naomasa but Sansa was a close second. It would only be until after the case.

Izuku was laid out fully in his wolf form. His head laid heavily on Naomasa's lap as they waited. Even breaths came from Izuku showing that he was asleep. Exhausted from the day's events even though they weren't even a quarter of the way done. Everything in him wished they didn't have to go through this. It was too much of a strain on the child.

He ran his hand through the soft in soothing motions. There was a soft rumble from Izuku. An unconscious reaction that he noticed was common when the boy was content. Content to be with Naomasa for the moment.

Then came a knock on the door and Sansa poked his head in. "It's time Nao. I'll take over."

Sleepily Izuku looked up and his ears fell back. Sighing Naomasa gently maneuvered the wolf child so that he could get up. He gave Izuku a soft smile before squaring his shoulders and heading out. Sansa entered the room and shut the door behind him.

A few minutes later found him in back in the courtroom. The Bakugos were talking quietly with their lawyer. The judge had not arrived yet but Naomasa went to his seat anyways.

Kenji asked quietly, "How is he?"

Naomasa shrugged as he replied, "As well as he can be. He didn't want me to leave though."

His boss opened his mouth to ask more but the judge entered. They all rose to their feet before being allowed to sit. For a long moment, there was silence as the judge looked at them.

Finally, he said, "I will remind you all that the detective here has a lie detector quirk. He will be able to verify anything you say. How is young Midoriya?"

"He is as well as he can be, Your Honor," replied Naomasa, "I calmed him down and he is with an officer he trusts right now."

The judge nodded thoughtfully before going on, "I've had time to review some of the evidence you gave me. The law is quite clear in cases of soulmates but Detective Tsukauchi I have questions."

They waited until he was sworn in and on the stand. Then the judge asked, "When you first realized that Izuku was human did you open an investigation immediately? When did you find out that he was your soulmate?"

Naomasa answered honestly, "As I was given the information and watched Izuku I passed it on to my partner Officer Tamakawa. He was leading the investigation in trying to find Izuku's guardians. We didn't have much to go off of in the beginning because it took some time for him to be comfortable with me to return to his human form."

Mitsuki snapped, "I still don't believe that he actually has a quirk. I demand proof!"

The judge coldly said, "The proof is in the report in front of you. I do not know if you refuse to believe it but it is the truth. The child in question has a quirk. Perhaps you wished him to remain quirkless? Do not think I do not know the way our world views the quirkless. If you make a single discriminatory statement I will hold you in contempt. Do you understand me?"

Shakily Mitsuki nodded and Naomasa released the breath he had been holding. It seemed they had gotten one of the better judges. There were a few who would have given into the woman's demands.

Then he said to Naomasa, "Continue, Detective."

So he did explaining everything that happened since Izuku came into his life. By the time he finished the judge looked thoughtful.

Finally turned to Mitsuki and said, "What do you have to say about this, Mrs. Bakugo?"

The woman began to splutter, "Everything he said is a lie. Katsuki would never bully Izuku. They have been childhood friends since birth."

False. True.

So she didn't believe her words about her son not bullying Izuku. That just makes things worse. She could have stopped this before things got this bad.

The youngest Bakugo snorted before he could say anything, "Yeah right. Like I would be friends with a Deku."

That got a sharp look from the judge who asked, "What do you mean?"

The youngest continued unaware of the danger, "Dekus are the useless ones! There is no way Deku has a quirk. All he is good for is being a victim during a villain attack."

True.

This kid really believed Izuku was useless. That he would never amount to anything. Ever. Never before had Naomasa wanted to strangle someone as much as he did right then.

Before the boy could continue Naomasa interrupted, "Excuse me before we continue down this path I have to report my quirk went off. Mrs. Bakugo when you said that Katsuki would never bully Izuku that was a lie. You were warned not to try and lie for my quirk would detect it."

The woman's eyes flared with anger as she snapped, "I am not lying!"

False.

He gave the judge another look. The man said, "You are lying and I know that Detective Tsukauchi has a reliable track record. I hold you in contempt of court and purgery. Mr. Bakugo do you have anything to say in your family's defense?"

Marasu looked between his son and wife before shaking his head. The judge waited for a moment before he said, "Alright then. I want to speak to young Midoriya alone before I make my decision."

...

Izuku was gently ushered into the courtroom. He found it was just him and the judge. This left him feeling slightly uncomfortable but the judge had kind eyes. He gave Izuku a warm smile and waved him forward. Reluctantly he moved so that he stood in front of the judge.

The judge asked quiet and calm, "Tell me about your time with Detective Tsukauchi. Does he treat you well?"

Izuku excitedly signed, 'He treats me extremely well! When I first came to stay with him fed me in small amounts but often. It kept me from being sick. I still can't eat too much at one time but I'm getting there. He's been very patient even though I can't speak.'

"So you are happy with him?"

Shyly Izuku nodded. The judge made a note on some papers before him before he said, "Okay Izuku that's all I needed. I have your written statement so we don't need to rehash that. Why don't do you go back out to Tsukauchi for a little while. I'll call you when I'm ready for my decision."

Izuku turned to do just that.

He only made it three steps before another question was asked, "Are you sure that you don't want a charge placed on the Bakugos?"

Izuku turned his head to look at the judge carefully assessing him. Then he nodded. Again the judge made a note on his papers before smiling and waving him out.
