Chapter 12

Diavolo felt her power, a mere flicker of it and it made him hiss lowly, it was so pure it was borderline acidic as it lashed out looking for a target. He quickly felt his own demon powers flare to life, shedding his human guise to put his demon one on full display. His golden orange eyes glared down at her as she gasped, fear flooding her eyes as he pressed her own power into submission.

It wasn't often that he had to let out so much of his power but it was his instinct to defend himself.

As natural as breathing.

He had no flight or fight instinct, his father had made sure it was a fight or fight instinct. A demon lord of his station never ran from a fight.

Kagome was at her wits end, her thoughts jumbled and her feelings raw and just all over the place. Tears began to leak out of her eyes as the demon prince glared down at her, his power suffocating her own, pressing hers down into submission.

"I just wanted to be with Lilli again. I didn't know it was a marriage contract." Her shoulders shook as a small sob escaped her, tears rolling down her cheeks in hot globs.

It made Diavolo pause, snapping his powers back into himself like a rubber band, his brows furrowing in worry as she continued to sob like a tired child having a breakdown.

Lucifer winced, a blaring hot pain shooting through his head at her words...

Lili...

Lilith...

The world around him faded to black as a memory forced its way to the front of his mind...

The sun shone down, glistening on the water of the nearby lake, it was a picture out of a story book as was everything in the celestial realm. The wind danced around him tugging at his long raven locks and pristine white and gold flowing robes.

Girlish laughter caught his attention, a smile blooming on his lips as he turned to find two females sitting under a large oak tree. One had curly brown locks, pale skin and bright brown eyes, she was giggling as her companion sat next to her. Her face flushed, her sky blue eyes staring at the floral in her hands. "Hush Lili!" Her voice was an octave higher than normal with her embarrassment.

Lilith gave another laugh, her gaze shifting between the girl at her side and himself. Tilting his head at her in question he could only chuckle as the ravenette flushed even redder and hid her face in her hands.

"Big brother, come join us!" She giggled as her best friend let out a small noise of embarrassment and he was hard pressed to not give voice to his own amusement. Instead he moved to join them, sitting between the two females relishing in the way his younger sister began to braid his hair as Kagome avoided his gaze, her fingers working once more on an ornate flower crown.

"Lucifer!" He was vaguely aware of someone calling his name, the male voice stepped in worry. Forcing his eyes open, not even realizing he had closed them in the first place, his head snapped to the young woman at his side.

What was that...

Well, he knew what it was, it was a memory but why had it suddenly sprung to the surface, bringing with it the emotions as well? Shakily he reached a hand out, his red tipped fingers ghosting over her shoulder as if afraid that if he added any pressure behind them she would disappear just like that memory.

Turning to look at him she could only whimper, far too frazzled to deal with another outburst from him. She just wanted to go back home...

Gently he clasped her shuddering shoulder giving it a comforting squeeze, his heart lurching as he recalled his sister's laughter mixed with hers. "Kagome." The way he said her voice...it made her shudder as his nickname fell from her lips like a prayer. "Luci..."
