The Boy Next Door - A Big Time Rush Fanfiction….
A/N - So here is chapter two, sorry for the wait, this was a challenge to write but I enjoyed writing it. Anyway this chapter will show Hortense (Logan) in his first day of school, and how everything starts for him in Minnesota. Otherwise I'm not giving to much away; you have to read it of course! But, the next chapter there will be a bit of a time skip, I really don't want to draw this out for so long you know? So just a fair warning. Either way; this took me a few days to write and well here it is! (also there is slight mentions of bullying so be warned).
Disclaimer: I own nothing from Big Time Rush, it belongs to Nickelodeon and Scott Fellows!
Chapter 2
Big Time Bad Beginnings
The weekend had flown by fast for Hortense, more than he would have liked it to. Sometimes, the boy had wished that weekends could last forever, especially now. Today was his first day of school in his new hometown, Duluth, Minnesota, and to say the least, Hortense was nervous. Sure, the boy loved school, but kids had the fun of him for loving it and being brilliant at his last school. All this being made of fun had made it hard for the boy to make friends or fit in. Soon, Hortense had become an outcast at his last school, and he was scared the same thing would happen at this new school. However, already meeting the Knight family who had lived next door to them helped his thoughts a little bit. Kendall was about his age (only a year younger), and he seemed like a nice boy. So maybe, just maybe, he would be at the same school as Hortense, and the boy could already possibly have a friend. Of course, it was a hope, for Hortense remembered their interaction on Friday when they met; he hadn't seemed to impress the boy with his lack of knowledge on hockey. Was that sport significant in this town? Hortense would find out soon, but he would make friends just by being himself.
"Hortense! Time for school!"
His mother calling him made the boy snap out of his thoughts and sigh. Grabbing his book bag filled with new school supplies, he rushed downstairs to meet his mother in the kitchen. His mother handed him a plate of food, and the two ate breakfast. As they ate, there was some silence between them until they were close to being done; his mother spoke up while smiling softly at her son. Hortense looked up at his mother and smiled back.
"Now, you have a good day at school today, okay? Just be yourself and learn as much as you can. But also have fun, but don't get into trouble." Mrs. Mitchell explains as she gathers the dishes to put them into the sink. "Also, I have to be at work late tonight, settling into the new building and all. You have my number, let me know when you are home. Lock the doors as soon as your in, so you're safe. Also if you need anything, I'm sure you can go to the Knight's next door. I have Mrs. Knight's number written down. It's hanging on the fridge if you need it. Understand?" Mrs. Mitchell finishes as she walks her son out with her.
The boy nods and smiles, "Yes, mom, I love you."
"I love you too."
With that, they hug and only pull apart when the school bus arrives at Hortense's driveway. The brunette boy takes one last look at his mother before getting on. Once on, he gets in his assigned seat the bus driver gives him and sits down. Seeing no one is with him yet, he sighs and looks out the window as the bus rolls forward, only to come to another stop moments later. Hortense was curious and looked out the window. The boy was surprised when he saw that Kendall was getting on the bus (duh, he was a neighbor; of course, the bus would stop), instantly Hortense had a smile on his face, for he did know someone at his new school already. But what he wasn't prepared for was sharing the same bus seat with his new neighbor.
Hortense frowns since Kendall doesn't reply to his hello; instead, Kendall looks the opposite way. The brunette felt hurt because Kendall ignored him. Was it because of their conversation yesterday? Either way, Hortense was happy when the bus finally pulled into the school parking lot to drop everyone off. The bus ride with Kendall had been awkward and quiet, and the brunette watched as his neighbor quickly rushed off and didn't even wait for him. Hortense sighs as he follows the rest of the kids into the elementary school and finds the main office by himself. Once in the office, Hortense received his paperwork to take him for his mother to sign. Once they arrived in the classroom, he waited out in the hall as the principal introduced him to his teacher. After being introduced, the teacher brings him into the classroom.
"Everyone, this is our new student, Hortense Mitchell. please welcome him to our classroom." Mrs. Walden introduces the class. She smiles at the boy. "Why don't you go take your seat? It's almost lesson time. Mrs. Walden encourages the boy, who nods.
So, Hortense goes and finds his desk, and he sees his name is labeled in neat cursive writing. The boy sits down and gets settled in. Looking around, he finds Kendall a few seats away from him. The brunette was surprised to see his neighbor in the same classroom, but if so, then why didn't Kendall talk to him or help him? Did Hortense do something wrong that first time they had met? Hortense couldn't help but worry, but he sighed and listened as Mrs. Walden started class.
The class went well for Hortense, and he loved every moment of it, making sure to write down notes and get every bit of information he could. By the end of it, he was excited about lunchtime.
Instead of going to a cafeteria, they stayed in the classroom because they were small. The cafeteria was where the high schoolers ate, so it was no place for younger kids.
You could hang out with the other kids during lunch or eat at your desk. Hortense took this chance to go up to Kendall and try to speak to him and get some explanation as to why he had been giving him the cold shoulder all morning. The brunette boy was close halfway across the room when he saw Kendall sitting with a boy who had good-looking hair and was looking at himself in a mirror and combing his hair? The two were chatting away and occasionally looking in Hortense's direction; he had a feeling Kendall was talking about him to his friend. Finally, the boy works up the courage and walks up to the two boys.
"Hey Kendall, can we talk?"
Saying the boy's name caught their attention. Kendall and the other boy share a look before eyeing Hortense. The young genius is nervous, but he wishes Kendall would speak to him and possibly be his friend? Kendall whispered something to the blonde hair boy. They shared a laugh, and Kendall sighed.
"Hello Hortense, how's school going so far for you?"
"Cut the crap, Knight; I want to know what's going on. You've been giving me the cold shoulder all morning."
The boy hadn't meant to be that blunt, but he wanted to know what he did wrong. However, his demand seems not to have helped his situation, for Kendall narrows his eyes at the boy and says something to his friend, who nods in agreement before leaving them alone. Hortense frowns and continues to stand his ground, waiting to see what the blonde has to say.
However, before he gets a response, Hortense suddenly feels something tight around his bottom, and he's crying out in pain. Looking behind him, he sees that Kendall's brown-haired friend was giving him a wedgie and that he was laughing along with the other students who were now gathered around. Hortense had tears in his eyes, and he felt even more humiliated when the brown-haired boy de-pantsed him after giving him a wedgie. Seeing the class laugh loudly; had caused the teacher's attention, and she came over to the scene demanding what was going on. But Hortense was mortified, and after getting his pants up, he held them tight to himself and ran out of the classroom ignoring the teacher's calls.
Finding the nearest bathroom, Hortense hid in the stall and locked it. The boy could feel his body shaking, and he was trying to balance himself against the wall from passing out. Hortense hears himself stutter, and the boy starts trying to count out loud and calm down. Finally, after about five minutes, he was sitting on the toilet seat, taking deep breaths and letting tears roll down his cheeks. After feeling calmed, Hortense hears the bathroom door open, and someone calls for him (it was his teacher), and he doesn't feel like answering. Unfortunately for him, the teacher didn't leave.
When Hortense came out of the bathroom, his teacher explained that she tried to call his mother to come to get him, but due to work, she could not, so the boy had to suck it up and stay. She told Hortense that Kendall and his friend did not get away with anything. The two boys went to the principal's office, and their parents were receiving a phone call about their behavior. The teacher held Hortense's hand as they went back to the classroom. Hortense saw that Kendall and his friend were nowhere in sight upon entering. The other students asked the boy if he was all right and apologized for laughing at his predicament from earlier. Hortense assumed the apology was due to the teacher making them, but he accepted it because he wanted to be better. Hortense sat through the rest of school and only rushed out when it was over for the day.
As he rode the bus home, Hortense didn't look forward to talking with his mother about things. School no longer seemed exciting for the twelve-year-old boy. Was it going to be like this all year? Was he going to be an outcast once more? Hortense just worried about how the school would go for him hear on out, the boy just hopped today was the only trouble he would have., He won't have any issues if he ignores Kendall and his friend. Minnesota was basically like Texas, just cold and Hortense wished they hadn't ever moved. But, little did the boy know that this was just the beginning and that sometimes the beginning is rough. Little did the boy know that by the end of the school year, things were going to be different…
A/N - Well there was chapter two, so it's sort of showing how things aren't going well for Hortense (Logan) but as I said, it's not going to be dragged out too much and there will be a bit of a time skip in the next chapter but things will be answered from this one as well. Either way; an chapter three will be up soon thanks!
