The Boy Next Door - A Big Time Rush Fanfiction….
A/N - Hello, it is me with an update! Yeah, finally I am updating I know it's been like a while and I apologize for it but this chapter was so hard to write, I had major writers block up until today so yeah! Also, I just had a job interview and passed, I'm waiting for an offer and am also moving states within in the next three weeks! So a lot is on my mind and I'm gonna be busy within the next few weeks! I'm gonna have to try and work a time when I write for fanfiction. So, anyway without more of my life story, thank you all so much for the reviews it means a lot to me! Also thank you all so much for your patients I really appricate it a lot of good things are hopefully about to happen in my life! Yeah :)
Anyway without making you wait any longer, here is the update yeah. Note: I did research, and went off the boy's ages by their characters in the show and not the real them. So if your wondering that's where I got the information. Everything is on track as of now so that they are about fifteen-sixteen by the actual pilot episode, which is probably where I'm going to end this story, is right before that episode. But yeah, I just wanted to let you know where I got the info from! Also in the next chapter we might do a time skip just to warn you I haven't figured it all out yet!
Without much more to say, enjoy!
Disclaimer: I own nothing from Big Time Rush it all belongs to Nickelodeon and Scott Fellows!
Chapter 6
Big Time First Friend's Party
Hortense was starting to love school. Learning and growing in knowledge was one of Hortense's favorite pastimes. But what made school even more enjoyable was seeing his new friends every day! The young genius was now friends with Kendall Knight, James Diamond, and Carlos Garcia. The four couldn't be more different, but somehow, everything worked out, and they were the best of friends. Ever since he joined the group, Hortense had to admit, it was odd to be friends with the people who once bullied you, but he was willing to look past that and start new. After all, the boys got along so well that they only had one another to talk to.
At first Hortense noticed that people were wary of them during the rest of the year. It must've been because the other three were known to bully others, but Hortense didn't think that was the complete answer. Kendall was the hockey team captain, and no one dared to mess with him. Others were worried about Carlo's hyper-activeness, and his random craziness sometimes scared people away. James was too selfish and wondered how Kendall was even friends with the boy in the first place, but spending time with him, Hortense had learned that James could be a loyal person when it came to friends. It was no secret that the four boys were considered the odd ones out in their class, but Hortense could care less what others had thought about them because they were finally friends with him. Hortense finally had friends, and he wasn't planning on letting the three slip away from him anytime soon. Eventually, time had passed, and the young genius's birthday came, and he was now Thirteen years old as of February and couldn't be happier. Speaking of birthdays, as the end of the school year came, Hortense found himself being invited to his first party, and it was Carlos's Thirteenth birthday as well. The young genius had been surprised when he learned he was only a month older than his hyperactive friend, but Hortense was even more surprised to learn he was seven months older than James and that Kendall was the youngest of them by a year. But Hortense didn't mind; he was just excited to be invited to his friend's party and hoped to have a good time.
There weren't many people at Carlos's thirteenth birthday party, and it was mainly Hortense, Kendall, James, all three of their families, Carlos's mother and father, and some of Carlo's aunt and uncles with them kids. It was a small gathering, and there had been music, decorations, cake, a bouncy house, and a table where all the presents Carlos had gotten were sitting, waiting to be opened. After some time mingling (this was the part where Hortense got to meet all of Carlos's family and James's mother and father, it had been a little awkward), the crowd was gathered for dinner, and they all were all ate and enjoyed one another's company. Unfortunately for the young genius, his mother had been unable to attend with him due to being super busy in her new job. So, the Knight had offered to let Hortense ride with them, and that was how he got there. Kendall, Hortense, and James stayed the night since it was the weekend, and they would all hang out tomorrow until their parents came and got them.
When the party was over, the boys were hyped up from the cake's sugar they ate, and the parents started to head. Hortense had to admit, he had a super fun time, and the four guys were currently playing the new video game that Carlos had gotten. Battle Blast was the highest anticipated game of their young lives, and it had been Carlos's primary want. The other present Carlos was obsessed with that he had gotten for his thirteenth birthday was a small red wagon that he named wagony. When the guys asked why he wanted a wagon, Carlos explained that they could ride it around town or pull things in when they got things from the store and no longer had to carry them. The guys eventually agreed that it was a good idea to have one handy. Carlos, Hortense, James, and Kendall stayed up until almost eleven pm that night playing the video game when Mrs. Garcia finally came in and made the boys stop for the night and go to bed. The four had complained at first, but when she gave them the typical "mother look," they complained and went right to sleep.
Entering Carlos's room for the first time, Hortense evaluated his surroundings. The room was decent sized and filled with posters nick-nacks of superheroes. Carlos's room was messy, and the boy was shoving clothes under the bed or into his closet to make room for his friend's sleeping bags. Carlos had told his friends they were welcome to use his bathroom; it was his private one connected to his bedroom on the far left. Carlos jumped onto his bed and relaxed while Hortense, Kendall, and James looked to claim their spots. After about ten minutes, Hortense still stood in his spot, unsure of where to sleep, but mainly wasn't sure how to mentally handle staying in such a messy room. It seemed as if the others had noticed by now and were staring at Hortense, making the young genius even more uncomfortable.
"Everything okay, Hortense?" Carlos questions with an eyebrow raise as he frowns at the boy.
Shaking his head, the genius finally moves and puts his sleeping bag down next to Kendall's bed. He sets it up and says, "Yeah, sorry, I was decided where I wanted to sleep."
Thankfully the three seemed to buy his answer and talk about whatever they could come up with. During this conversation, Hortense stayed primarily quiet, listening to the others. While talking, Hortense learns that Kendall wants to be a professional hockey player someday. Next, he learns that James wants to be in the entertainment industry, signing, acting, and modeling. The boy had even sang them a bit of a song he loved, which Hortense had to admit that James sounded pretty good. Then, Hortense learned that Carlos wanted to be a superhero like the ones in his comic books and movies. His main reason to be one was to help keep humanity safe. Unfortunately for Hortense, the three then turned to look at him.
"What do you want to do when you're older?" James questioned as he eyed the boy with interest.
Seeing all eyes on him, the boy gulps to himself before he thinks and says while avoiding eye contact with them. "I w-want to be…be a doctor." Hortense stutters, mentally slapping himself for answering so lamely.
"A doctor? What kind of doctor? Is there like different types?" Kendall questions as he raises an eyebrow at the boy and smiles.
Hortense nods, "Yeah, there are. I want to be a general doctor. One who helps with everything." Hortense states as he smiles at his friends.
The guys nod, seeming to like the young geniuses' answer making him relax in relife. Kendall, James, and Carlos all fall asleep it's about midnight. Hortense feels his eyes tired, but he gets up and goes into Carlos's bathroom, washes his hands, and sighs in relief before going back to bed. Finally, Hortense sleeps until morning when the young genius wakes up to a pillow landing on his face. He sits up and shakes his head before rubbing his eyes and looking around. The young genius sees the other three having a morning pillow fight, and Hortense laughs to himself at their recklessness. They eventually drag him into it, having fun until Mrs. Garcia comes and calls them for breakfast. After eating, the boys head to the park that day, seeing as it's a sunny day in Minnesota. The four walk to the park since it's just down Carlos's road, and Carlos brings his new red wagon.
Outside, the boys kept to themselves at the park, not wanting to interact with anyone else. It wasn't super crowded, but a few younger kids were there with their parents. Hortense smiled as he, Kendall, James, and Carlos hung out on the merry-go-round. Carlos and James would take turns pushing the Merry-Go-Round, and eventually, they got bored of that, so they got off and went to the swings. Soon, the group was done swinging and playing with the red wagon. Carlos had taken turns pulling one another and going down a small hill at the park. Once the sun started going down, they left the park and headed home. Once they arrived at Garcia's house again, Carlos waited with his friends until their parents came to pick them up. James was the first to leave, his mother picking him up. Then it was Kendall who noticed that Hortense looked a little sad about something; it didn't take him much to figure out what was wrong.
"Need a ride home?" Kendall questions as he smiles at the boy.
I'm sure my mom will be done working soon." Hortense shrugs a little, not wanting to be a burden.
Kendall nods, "I'm sure it's no worries; you live next door."
Hortense doesn't answer, but Carlos nudges him, encouraging him to take the offer from Kendall. The young genius smiles and nods, "All right, thank you, Kendall. I owe you. I owe you.
"No need to owe me; it's what friends are for."
Like that, Hortense once more had a big smile on his face. A year ago, the idea of moving to Minnesota scared him, but today he couldn't be more thankful for coming here with his mother. The ride home was silent, with Mrs. Knight only asking about how their day went while the radio played softly in the background. Soon, they pulled into the Knight's driveway, and once they were out of the car, Hortense thanked them for the ride and went over to his own house. Entering his home, he saw that his mother was working on her laptop at the table. Hortense frowned at first but then came in and smiled, and his mother seemed to have heard him come in, for she looked up from her laptop.
"Hello Hortense, how was the part and sleepover?" Mrs. Mitchell questions as she smiles at her son. She frowns, "Oh shoot did I forget to pick you up!? I'm so sorry!"
The young genesis smiles and says, "It's an all right mom, Kendall and Mrs. Knight gave me a ride home. The party and sleepover were super fun, thank you." Hortense states as he and his mother side hug one another.
Mrs. Mitchell nods, "Good, I'm glad. There are some leftovers from dinner I made; help yourself. Otherwise, I'm trying to get caught up on work; we were busy and behind, so whatever you want to do tonight will be.
Nodding, the boy smiles. "All right, mom, I ate at Carlos's house, thanks. I'm going to go clean my room." Hortense states as he and his mother pull apart from the hug.
With that, he left as his mother eyed him oddly. Once he's out of the room, his mother shrugs and goes back to work. Hortense makes it to his bedroom, looks at his surroundings, and sighs. The young genius starts getting cleaning supplies ready before he starts cleaning. First, he fixes any wrinkles on his bed, makes sure things are put away in an orderly fashion, and finally wipes down all surfaces of his room and dusting and vacuuming. Once he is done, the boy puts the supplies away and lays down on his bed. Hortense yawns, and before he knows it, he is fast asleep, drifting off into a peaceful dream where he can keep the whole world clean. He is unaware when his mother comes in to check on him as he sleeps. She makes sure he is covered with his blankets and kisses him on his forehead gently before leaving the room, making sure to turn the lights off and close the door. She then goes to bed herself, trying to be happy for her son since he is having a good time. But, the news she had received today from his last doctor visit came creeping into her mind, and she tossed and turned all night while worrying about her son and what the future held for him…
