A/N - So here is chapter eight, wow sorry for the wait this one took me a while to write. I wasn't sure which direction to end this, but then I was happy to come up with the ending I did. Also, all past events are based off of my imagination and references from the show!
Anyway; thank you all for the reviews it means the world to me and I'm glad your enjoying this as much as I am enjoying writing it yeah!
I think a little time jump for next chapter will be coming and things will be on track for the show, probably only a few chapters left is what I am thinking but do not worry we aren't done yet!
So without saying more or giving anything else away; I own nothing from Big Time Rush it all belongs to Nickelodeon, Scott Fellows and now

Chapter 8
Big Time Extracurriculars Part 2
During his time in Choir, Hortense learned he liked to sing. Sure, the teacher had pulled him aside a few times and told him he needed to work on his voice better and that he wasn't the strongest in the room, but he wasn't the worst either. The statements made the young genius want to practice more, and so in their off time, James would help him with signing lessons. Thus finding the boys hanging out, even more, Hortense invites the guys over to his house for the first time since they've become friends. Kendall, Carlos, and James all found themselves in the living room of the Mitchell home on a Friday afternoon, listening to Hortense sign the assigned song. It was his second time signing it, and the guys eyed one another as he did.
"It was better - "James commented once Hortense finished. "- But not letting your full potential out, it's like your holding your voice back."
"Ugh." Hortense states as he shakes his head and puts the music down on the coffee table. "Can we take a break? It is giving me a headache." The young boy states as he rubs the sides of his forehead.
Carlos laughs from where he is sitting. "Dude, you can figure out factorial equations, but you can't figure out what pitch to sing a song in?" Carlos questions as he raises an eyebrow at his friend.
"Oh yeah, let's hear you sign it then if you think you can do better!" Hortense states as he pushes the paper towards the hyperactive boy.
Smirking, Carlos grabs the music sheet and starts singing the song. At first, Kendall, James, and Hortense all expect him not to sing that well; but they are surprised to find he didn't sound that bad and managed to sing it in the correct pitch. James applauded Carlos, and Kendall rolled his eyes slightly as he laughed a little at Hortense's stunned expression. After collecting himself, Hortense smiles and nods in approval at the boy. So, the other three were better signings than him; it was fine; he could live it. After all, the boy was better at school than his friends, which counted for something. The Choir was so they could spend time together; it wasn't like he would do this for the rest of his life; after all, he wanted to be a doctor. So the young genius could handle it for now. Hortense was about to respond when his mother called them all for their afternoon snack. The four of them got up from the living room and went into the kitchen, and sat down at the table to eat and hang out more. They thanked Mrs. Mitchell for the food.
"You boys sound good in there; I can't wait to come to see you at your school's performance." Mrs. Mitchel smiles at the four as she starts putting other dishes away from the sink.
"Thanks, mom. Are you sure you want to come to that? It's nothing, just a gathering in the school gym - "Hortense beings trying to talk his mother out of coming to watch.
She smiles as she interrupts him, "- Of course I do; I will be there just like the other mothers. Besides, we all planned to go to dinner afterward. It'll be fun." Mrs. Mitchell finishes as she comes up and squeezes Hortense on the shoulder lightly to show her son love.
The others agree. Once Mrs. Mitchell leaves the kitchen, the four guys chat quietly and finish their snacks. Kendall says, "So I checked the notice board today, and hockey tryouts are soon. It could be fun."
"Is it going to be like peewee hockey?" James questions as he pulls his lucky comb out and mirrors to check his hair after he is done eating.
Kendall says, "Don't see why it wouldn't be. I asked for information about it and was told there is a High School team and a Jr High team we would be trying out for Jr High. But they said if we kept playing after Jr High, we would already be automatically on the High School team; they usually transfer members over instead of holding High School tryouts." Kendall finishes as he smiles at the thought. "So if we wanted to continue into high school, we could."
After looking at one another, Carlos shrugs, "Sounds like fun!"
"Wait, wait, wait - "The young genius states causing his friends to turn and looks at him. Hortense sighs as he frowns. "- So, you want us to do Choir and Hockey? How will we do that between school and everything else?"
Kendall says, "We will, and it'll be fine. Besides, Choir will be over by the time we start hockey." Kendall states as he grins lightly.
"All right, but we still need to ensure our grades are good." Hortense protests as he looks down at his food and sets it down on his plate; he begins to try and wonder how he would work out his busy schedule.
The guys just nodded and went back to eating; they enjoyed each other's company until the boys had to leave for the night. Hortense and Mrs. Mitchell waved goodbye and watched Kendall until they knew he was safe inside his house, and they were able to do so because he lived next to them. Once they were alone, Hortense cleaned up from his friends, and Mrs. Mitchell went about to work on her laptop, stating she had something she needed to get done by tomorrow. The young genius knew this meant he was on his own to hang out tonight. So, Hortense went to his bedroom, made sure things were in place, and worked on his homework. He was working on it until late, and it was around nine pm when he finished and was able to take a shower and get ready for bed. After saying goodnight to his mother, Hortense went into his room and fell asleep almost instantly.
…
The buzzing from his phone woke him up, and Hortense groaned as he looked at it in confusion. Thanks to the illuminated light, Hortense was able to see that it was two-thirty am and that Kendall was calling him. Why was Kendall calling him this late at night? The phone stopped buzzing, for Hortense didn't answer in time, and that was when the young genius saw he had three missed calls from Kendall and five messages. Sitting up, Hortense rubbed his eyes and almost fell off the bed, jumping in surprise when there was a knock at his bedroom window. Facing his window, Hortense was shocked at what he saw.
Getting up, he walked over to his window and opened it. "Kendall? What are you doing here this late? It's two-thirty in the morning! You should be in bed!" Hortense stated as he stepped aside, letting his blonde-haired hockey-loving friend inside his room. After closing the window, Hortense frowns, seeing the look on the other's boy's face. "Kendall, are you okay? Talk to me…." But, Hortense didn't get an answer right away.
"My dad left."
"What?"
Hortense had been caught off guard. That was something he had not been expecting to hear from his blonde friend at two-thirty in the morning on a school night. The young genius had to take a moment to process what his friend said. Before him, Kendall looked like he was ready to break down crying but was trying to hold it back. Hortense eyes him for a moment, fully letting the process wrap around his mind, and then he did what either James or Carlos would probably do in this situation, he hugged Kendall and let the boy cry as he told the young genius what had happened not moments before he started trying to call him.
They sat there for a while until Kendall cried everything out and calmed down. He had explained how his parents hadn't been getting along lately, and he woke up to them fighting around midnight, sat on the stairs, and listened before he heard his father yell something at his mother, storm out, and slam the door shut. There was silence then, and all Kendall wanted to do was ask his mother what was going on and comfort her. It only ended up in the fighting about the situation. Which led to Kendall being mad and wanting away from his home, so he came to the first place he thought of Mitchell's house.
Hortense allowed Kendall to stay the night with the deal that he texted his mother to let her know that he was at their neighbor's so she wasn't too worried and that he would be home in the morning to talk about things before school. Kendall thanked him, and the two had a sleepover that night. Kendall talked more about the school's hockey team and how he was excited for tryouts and for the four to play it together. Hortense smiled and was happy when Kendall finally fell asleep; he felt terrible for his friend and wished he could get Mr. Knight back and talk some sense into him to stay with his family. But, things happened for a reason, and somehow Hortense felt like this was the beginning of the Knight family's problem, and they're soon happy hard, earned future….
