Chapter 2: Arrival at Becon
Yang Xaio Long was a rather tall and athletic young woman, standing just over 6 foot two inches with long blonde hair and a bust many super models would kill for. She was currently smiling due to the fact she was finally going to Becon academy, the first step in her plan to getting stronger and beating the shit out of her neglectful bandit mum who left before she was able to walk and thankfully Mumma Summer took the mantle of raising her despite what she was Summer was probably one of the nicest beings to ever of lived in Vale.
Her thoughts on how many ways to beat her birth mum to death while using the resulting corpse to bring back Summer were interrupted by shouts of panic and multiple sounds of weapons being drawn along with the firmilular sliding sound of nails on the ground. Spinning around she raised her gauntlets in preparation to being attacked, it wasn't after all uncommon for the White Fang, Nevermores or even the odd bandit who had a ramshackled means of flight to attack airships these days. Just the other week White Fang stole over 1.4 million Lein worth of dust from a Schnee airship as it made its way to Manjerie to resupply the schnee outposts there as while everything was mined there they didn't refine it there, too much chance the white fang would detonate the refinery.
What she saw instead of any possible danger however made her chuckle. Her half sister Ruby, who was in her usual atire and sporting her favorite pair of hand me down Victorian glasses from her grandfather, was sitting atop the family grimm, a giest called Coffin which possessed its namesake and despite being a coward was rather protective of Ruby and of Zwei. Ruby's hands were held up in mock surrender while the limbed furniture stood rigidly still on its six hands, it's single red eye located on the lid swivvled about in panic as a soft whimpering sound was emitted from it's lid.
"Whoa sis, why'd you bring Coffin here and not go straight to Beacon?" Yang asked, elbowing and even outright shoving people aside as she made her way to her sister who still had a large amount of weapons trained on her. With a second of hesitation yang picked up a pink and brown haired faunus and gently moved her aside to continue on.
"Yang!" Ruby wined with a pout. Her arms crossed over her chest ruffeling her red cloak which was pinned at her shoulders with inverted crucifixes. "I can't leave Coffin alone you know it gets upto all kinds of trouble with Zwei."
"Okay point, dad would go spare with those two trashing the place but what I mean is why did you think bringing it here instesd of straight to school was a good idea?" Yang sighed as she finally reached her sister, pulling her in for a noogie. "Probably gave half the people here a heart attack."
"Got that right." Groaned a blonde knight who was looking rather green and hunched over a trashcan. The brown and pink haired faunus girl was at his side in an instant as she rubbed his back gently.
"Why is she riding a disgusting Grimm?" A snobby white haired girl with a scar over her eye in a fancy dress asked, a rapier kept firmly held in the direction of Coffin. The soft white glow from the chambering system indicated the presence of activated ice dust which made Coffin whimper more.
"Oh it's Coffin, he's kinda a family pet." Ruby shrugged getting confused and worried looks from many humans and faunus on board. "He's harmless, worst they'll do is slobber on your clothes a bit and beg to play fetch with a dinner plate or book."
One however just squealed with glee. A orange haired young woman with a freckled face and blue eyes wearing a short skirt and denim jacket with no sleeves shot through the crowed with a squeal of glee, a large silver hammer was strapped to her back which barely even twitched as she slammed into Coffin and started to hug it.
"OHMYOUHMYOUGOGRIMMRIDINGTO!" The girl pelted off in less than a second with what could only be the grin of someone who had too much sugar.
"NORA!" Chidded a black with pink stripe haired teen wearing green Chinese garbs as he dragged the girl back." We don't ride other people's pets especially if they're grimm."
"But Renny-poohs grim riding." The ginger whined with her arms outstretched towards Coffin as she was dragged back into the crowd.
"Explain how you trained it now." The white haired girl demanded.
"Okay. Coffin's harmless, my grandpa found it one day trying to bind itself to a teapot of all things and took a liking to it. Flash forward a bit and coffin's decided it's job is to keep me safe while I sleep after I got scared of a thunder storm as a kid." Ruby shrugged. Yang snickered to herself, she remembered that night well. Summer had gotten them all in the front lounge room and set up a candle light puppet show as the power had gone out but when the lightning started Ruby freaked out until Coffin busted out of the basement to protect her from the lightning. which was rather funny to see a grim possessed coffin growling at the thunder and lightning.
"It's a grimm." The white haired girl ground out. "We don't keep then as pets we kill them and they sure as hell don't show compassion or empathy."
At this coffin began shaking and whining as it's eye looked about more frantically.
"Oh lay off ice queen." Yang scoffed. "Coffin here's harmless and a big coward. Worst it can do is trip you over and slobber your hair into a mess like Ruby said, maybe sit on your stuff, that's it."
However this argument over Coffin wasn't to go on much further as the intercom interrupted any further rebuttal.
"Attention passengers we will be arriving at Becon in less than 5 minutes time, please make sure all personal luggage is secured and that all Dust is put away."
"Well once we get to the academy I'm sure they will see reason and have that horrid beast destroyed." The blonde huffed before storming off with her nose turned high. People had finally settled a bit but were still on guard and very wary of the grimm and the ones who could get close to it.
It wasn't long until with a lurch the ship touched down. The blonde knight from before, having filled the bins on the ship to capacity rushed off first, diving at the nearest bin and empting his stomach of whatever was left of lunch as the same faunus girl from before was comforting him again. Two more bulkheads touched down and disgorged their students onto the grounds. Beacon academy, unlike the city 30 minutes away, was surrounded on all sides by grimm infested forests and ancient ruins. The main campus itself was on a platue of granite roughly 40 meters tall making it nearly impossible for ground Grimm to attack it and a series of 20 automated defenses around the school shot down any Nevermore that got too close for comfort a good 300 yards from the school.
Awaiting the new students by a fancy marble fountain was Glynda Goodwitch in her usual atire with her riding crop held firmly in her left hand as she glared at the approaching form of Ruby.
"Hi Goodwitch!" Ruby called as coffin scuttled out of the ship, eager to get away from any sharp items that could be used to hurt it.
"Proffessor Rose why do you have your Grimm with you?" Goodwitch asked and she slammed the riding crop she always carried into her open palm. Many students looked on in shock as this conversation went on. After all the deputy headmistress was talking to a small girl who was riding a giest possessed coffin of all things and calling said small girl a professor.
"It was the easiest way to get here without setting off all the alarms, you may want to look into that so white Fang doesn't just Airdrop in a bunch of Ursas or sonething." Ruby shrugged if it was obvious.
"Wait, SHE'S A PROFESSOR?!" The white haired girl shrieked in shock, her eye twitching in indignation as she pulled along a trolley with eight suitcases and four handbags.
"I'm with the prissy bitch, WHAT?! I thought you only have one degree?!" Yang parroted.
Ruby just shrugged non chattedly. "They needed someone to fill a roll on teaching about the kind things out there that would gladly rip their faces off while they made the Grimm flee in fear. Who better than one of the ones who deals with them the most."
"And boarbatusk fly." The white haired girl rolled her eyes. "There is no way such a little girl as yourself has more combat experience than a seasoned hunter."
"Miss Schnee that is rather innapropriate." Miss Goodwitch raised an eyebrow. "Professor rose need I remind you of the rules on your pet again?"
Ruby shuddered. That book was over 6000 pages long and she was quite sure a good third of it was based around what the Judist priest wasn't aloud to do and another third was what professor Ooblek wasn't allowed to do. "Nope. All clear. 100%, please don't make me read the long book again." She pleaded with the sadistic huntress.
"Good. I expect to see you at orientation with the students." Goodwitch stated bluntly with a satisfied smirk before eyeing the surrounding students.
"Hurry up. The auditorium is that way." She snapped, her crop being pointed towards a large building with a curved roof. As everyone rushed to the auditorium Ruby jumped off of Coffin who jumping through a shadow cast by the students and disappeared into it looking for a suitable place to hide until he was needed again.
Ruby sighed in exasperation as she rubbed her eyes under her glasses as the future students to be rushed for the auditorium. "Only three reacted properly to Coffin. Good grief." It was common knowledge amoung vampires and hunters that a giest in a coffin was harmless as either way it was susceptible to blunt damage and even fire making it a laughably easy thing to counter if you had burn dust prepared. "Yang, the newly dubbed "Vomit Boy" and the orange haired girl were the only ones who reacted as such. Yang definately knew, the other two probably did so there's that." Ruby mumbled to herself before looking up and realising everyone had left. "Ah biscuit. Where did that Judist priest Ozpin say I had to go once I got here again?" She asked aloud as she pulled a notebook from her pocket and tried to backtrack her notes.
"This way Proffessor. I'm Blake by the way, Blake Belladonna" A soft voice stated. Turning around ruby found a black haired girl with a bow atop her head in an almost all black atire walk towards her from the shade of a tree. with how good her eyesight was Ruby easily caught the subtle twitching of cat ears under the bow and of the well done make-up which was covered a series of scars across her face and hands.
"Thanks." Ruby gave a soft smile. "But I'm only teaching the one class, otherwise I'm just a student here like everyone else. Normal girl with normal Knees, yup that's me totally normal."
"What, a class on vampires professor Dracul?" The girl asked as they walked towards the main campus buildings.
"What the? What gave it away?" Ruby asked with a pout, she was supposed to be sneaky and sly not as obvious as a troll in the middle of a bathroom!
"Grandpa Scholdinger told me the signs to look out for." Blake shrugged as she pushed open the doors to the main building. "I also recognise the glasses from what my grandpa told me about the Dracul line."
"So, you're a scoldongers cat then? Dead and alive until you can't perceive that you could be alive or existing somewhere?" Ruby asked in slight confusion. That kind of immortality always bugged her as it was difficult to wrap her head around. Vampires were simple, they just regenerated like crazy sometimes even from a bloodied skelaton, werewolves too could regenerate like crazy but they had a lifespan of roughly 200 years and fire outright messed up their healing. Grimm would come back indefinitely until one of a few things happened. First if a vampire drained them, this was ill advised as they tasted god awful and would often lead the vampire to feel sick afterwards. The next was by killing the vampire they were bound to, this could be tricky depending on how many souls the vampire had collected. Finally the old tried and true method of overkill rounds followed by burning the scattering ashes.
Blake shrugged as they entered the hall that lead to the auditorium. "Yeah pretty much, that combined with my semblance makes it rather difficult to keep me down. I've been impaled, shot, caught in an explosion, stabbed, poisoned, fed to grimm and even been set on fire."
"Ooh ouch." Ruby winced in sympathy. "Fire hurts a lot. Like I am talking worse than having fangs ripped out levels of ouch."
"I got used to it." Blake replied as she stopped outside a pair of double doors. "So here we are."
"Thanks Blake." Ruby smiled cheerfully.
"You're welcome." Blake hummed as Ruby pushed the door open with a creak.
