Ginny's POV
I woke up today with my ankle feeling worse. It was swollen and red, but I knew that if I told anybody, they would instantly become overprotective of me. Especially Ron. When Harry had saved me from the Chamber of Secrets, Ron was instantly coddling over me.
It was the weekend, so there was no run today. Knowing that this wasn't the right thing to do, I sighed and conjured up a clear ankle brace. I silently muttered a spell that would make the brace ice cold and put the brace on my ankle. I flinched as the sudden cold hit my ankle, but after a moment, it felt good. I checked the time, and it was seven o'clock. Better get up and make breakfast for the others.
I got out of bed, noticing that Harry wasn't there. He must have gotten called into work early again. I walked into the kitchen, still limping, and started to make pancake batter. Just as I was walking to put the pancakes on the table, Albus walked into the room with his Hogwarts pajamas on.
"Mom? Why are you walking funny?" I knew I had to lie to him. Regretting it, I said, "Albus, it's OK. I just have a sore muscle from running, not a big deal. Now, go wake James and Lily up for me, OK?" He smiled, and ran out of the room, "Al, slowly!" I called after him. I sliced some bananas, got the syrup, and butter out and put them on the table. All three of my kids came running out and sat at the table. I smiled, and got out three plates, and three forks. I got them each a pancake, and they happily ate the pancakes.
"James, Dad, and I have a surprise for you!" He instantly looked up, with his mouth full. He tried to say something but failed. He swallowed, and then said, "What?!"
"Wait until Dad gets home, and you can open it. He got called into work," I explained to their confused faces. Harry then walked in, looking tired, "Hey, sorry I'm late. I was called into the Ministry at 4:30. Hi, Gin," He greeted me with a kiss on my cheek.
"Hey, Harry, didn't we have a surprise for James today?" Harry's face instantly lit up. He pulled something out of his pocket, and it was wrapped with messy newspaper from the Daily Prophet. I took it from him and handed it to James, "Now, make sure you open it carefully," James carefully tore of the newspaper, and revealed a letter. He looked up at Harry and me. I laughed, saying, "Go ahead, James. Open it."
He tore the parchment apart, and started to read the letter out loud," Dear James Sirius Potter. You have been given a spot at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Enclosed, you will find a list of all the things you will need for the school year. Please note that all pupils' clothes should carry name tags. Students may bring an owl, rat, cat or toad. Term will begin on September the 1st, on the Hogwarts Express at Platform 9 3/4. You will find your ticket enclosed. Parents, please note that first year students are not allowed their own broomstick. Hope to see you there, Headmistress Minerva McGonagall."
James looked up at me with wide eyes, "No way. I'm old enough now!?"
"Yes, James. You're turning eleven late July. They consider you old enough, then. The same thing happened to your father. Now, when do you want to pick up your stuff?"
"Can we go today?" I nodded and went to clear the table. Harry must have noticed that I was still limping, and signaled me over to him, "Ginny, why are you limping? Did you hurt yourself?"
"Harry, I just pulled a muscle during our last run. It's not a big deal."
"Ginny, if you're hurt, tell me."
"I'm fine, Harry,"
"Are you sure?"
"Look, I'm fine. Even if I was hurt, this is exactly why I wouldn't tell you. You, Ron and Hermione get overprotective of anyone who gets hurt, so leave me alone! Please," I said the last word with a whimper.
Harry threw his hands up in defeat, "Alright, I get it,"
The kids finished eating, and Ron and Hermione came to watch the kids. Harry still had work to do at the Ministry, and I had to leave with James.
I got the Floo Powder out of its hiding spot, and motioned for James to take some. He took a handful, threw it in our fireplace, and yelled, "Diagon Alley!" I laughed. That was definitely better than Harry's first time. I took some powder, put the jar back in its spot, and said, "Diagon Alley."
I arrived beside James, and we headed to Gringotts. Harry wanted to pay for half of the things we got for James, so he gave me his key, and told me to take 50 Galleons.
At Gringotts, James and I went up to the Goblin Receptionist and said, "I'm Ginerva Molly Potter, and I'd like to make a withdrawal for Harry James Potter,"
"And does Mrs. Ginerva have Mr. Harry James Potter's key?" I reached into my pocket and rummaged around. 2 seconds later, I found the key and handed it to the Goblin. He inspected it, and then said, "This seems to be in order. Very well, I will have Griphook escort you there. Griphook!" Griphook came over and saw me, "Ginerva! Long time no see! Lemme guess, withdrawl for Harry?" I nodded, "Alright, follow me if you please." He lead James and I to the carts that lead to the vaults. He muttered Harry's vault number to the cart, and it sped toward the vault.
When we arrived, Griphook took the key, inserted it into the vault, and unlocked it. It looked almost no different than the first time I saw it. Still had mountains of Galleons, Sickles and Knuts. Harry had been putting half his paycheck in Gringotts. I took a leather bag out of my pocket, and started to fill it with the coins. When the bag was filled, I asked James to wait in the cart, and then went to talk to Griphook.
"Griphook?"
"Ginerva?"
"If it's not too much to ask, could I make 3 new vaults?"
"Not a problem. I just need to you fill these out." He handed me 3 identical papers of the information needed to create a vault.
"Great, thanks! I'll fill them out in the Lobby, if that's OK?"
"Never a problem. Now, let's head back, shall we?"
"Actually, can we stop at my vault? Here's the key." I handed him the key, and he said my vault number to the cart. All three of us were sped to my vault, and it made a sharp stop. Griphook opened the vault, and I filled another bag with Galleons, my own money.
After it was filled, he headed back to the Lobby, where I took a pen, and started to fill out the information. First sheet, OK, name: James Sirius Potter. Birth: July 23rd, 2003. I filled out all the other information in the papers. I took them up tot the Receptionist, and handed them to the Goblin. He placed the papers in a bin labeled 'New Vault'
After James and I left Gringotts, we headed to Flourish and Blotts to pick up James's new books. I didn't want him to live with hand me down things, like I had. I wondered who the new Defense Against the Dark Arts professor would be.
My first year, it was Gilderoy Lockhart who lost his memory, second year was Remus Lupin, who sadly passed away alongside his wife, Nymphadora Tonks. My third year, it was Barth Crouch Jr. disguised as Alastor Moody, fourth year was Umbridge, who was a terrible professor. She was sentenced to a life-time sentence to Azkaban. My fifth and sixth year, it was Horace Slughorn. If I'm being completely honest, I can't remember the name of my 7th year teacher.
At the store, we bought all the books necessary, but James wanted a certain book, Quidditch Through the Ages, "Alright James. But it'll be an early birthday present, OK?" He nodded in agreement, and we went to pay for them. James really is like his father, Quidditch.
The total was 15 Galleons, and 2 Sickles. I did as Harry requested and paid 50% with his money. After, we went to get a Butterbeer, where James wanted to hear a story.
"Alright, how about the Chamber of Secrets? I know you've heard this one, but I know you like it,"
"Yeah, I wanna hear that one!"
"Ok, it was my first year, and the summer beforehand, I had a huge crush on Dad. The first time I met him was during his first year, when he asked Grandma how to get onto Platform 9 ¾. I didn't know it was him, and the first words I ever said to him were, 'Good luck' Little did I know, he was the 'Boy Who Lived', and I was going to marry him and have a wonderful son named James Sirius Potter!
"In Flourish and Blotts, we had to get the whole set of Gilderoy Lockhart's books for Dad, Uncle Ron, Aunt Hermione, Uncle George, Uncle F-Fred, and I," It was still hard for me to say the name of my dead brother, "When Lucius Malfoy picked up my old Transfiguration book, he had slipped Tom Riddle's diary in it. He then put the books back in my cauldron. When I wrote in the diary, I found out a dark secret that I shared with nobody. When someone wrote in the diary, Tom would write back. I used this to my advantage, and poured all my personal problems into it. For example, I wrote that I was teased by your uncles' constantly, and that I had mostly hand me down things. Tom had a plan, and was patient enough until I was deeply writing in the book. He possessed me, kind of when he possessed Professor Quirrell, Dad's first Defense Against the Dark Arts professor. He forced me to kill roosters, and use their blood to write, 'The Chamber of Secrets has been opened. Enemies of Slytherin, beware.' Tom had summoned a Basilisk, a big snake, and would make me kill the roosters because the cry of a rooster is fatal to it.
"When I wasn't possessed, one time, I tried to tell Dad and Uncle Ron and Aunt Hermione what I had been doing. Just as I was about to tell them, Uncle Percy came and interrupted me. I just couldn't bring myself to tell them with him around. I knew he'd immediately write to Grandma and Grandpa, prefect or not. After that, I basically continued with what I was doing. At one point, Tom took me to the Chamber of Secrets, and I don't remember much after that. Dad had killed the Basilisk, and destroyed the book, and by then, he had awakened me. After that, Dad explained what had happened to me. Grandpa wasn't very happy, but forgave me in the end. Now, the reason I tell you this story is to teach you a lesson. No that you've done anything bad, but it's for future reference. Your Grandpa's motto was, 'Never trust anything that can speak for itself, if you can't see where it keeps its brain.' Remember that James."
He nodded, and we just about finished our shopping. Last thing we had to do was get James a wand. We went to Ollivander's. James tried out many different ones, and the one that chose him was a mix of Harry's wand and his father's wand. The wand ended being 11 inches long, made with mahogany wood, and contained a Phoenix Feather core. It meant a lot to James, Harry and I, that he got a wand mix of his father and grandfather. My ankle was killing me the entire time, but I just ignored it. Until I fell unconscious.
