This is a drabble for the paint it red monthly challenge where through a process I was randomly given the episode Redshirt it work with. Not my favourite episode but I hope you like what I came up with.

Hidden feelings are a danger to a partnership, especially when both are targets of a serial killer. But when revealed, they can wipe away all pain and set a new balance for the pair. Lisbon takes the lead. A bit angsty and very tough for Patrick. It's the love that counts. One-shot that takes place after "Red John's Rules" 5x22. A couple days ago, restless, bored, and impatient for season 6 to start, I binge-watched Life, NBC's too-wonderful-to-last cop show that I still loved even after all these years. And just like that I decided to write a series of Mentalist drabbles based on episode titles of Life. Hope you all enjoy.

Patrick Jane sees a butterfly and it reminds him of a day he'd like to forget. This is a bit sad but it gets better so please read until the end.
