Chapter 6: Snowmen and healing hair.

Elsa walked inside the castle and back towards the dining room. She quickly sat back down and tried to ignore Kristoff and Anna's quick glances that were aimed at her every now and then.

"So, did you kill him?" Kristoff asked her, breaking the silence. Elsa stiffened at this but shook her head.

"Good, what did you do to him then?" he then questioned.

"I did nothing, I simply told him to leave you alone." Kristoffs eyebrows shot up at this.

"Why's?" Elsa clenched her fists under the table mentally scolding herself for the slipup.

"I don't trust him." she then said carefully as she sipped a glass of water.

After that Elsa quickly stood up and left the room. Anna excused herself as well and hurried off to check on something. Kristoff sighed and walked around the castle thinking.

He didn't want to overstep his boundaries but at the same time he wanted to figure out why the famous spirit he had encountered the night before had been sent to protect Arendalle.

Kristoff hurried upstairs and onto a nearby balcony, looking to make sure no one was around he slipped outside before closing the door and locking it. He shook his head and leaned over the balcony feeling foolish.

"Jackson?" He then called out.

"Hello, Mr. King." Kristoff gasped as Jack suddenly appeared in front of him. He shoved him away causing him to tumble backwards through the air.

"What was that for?" Jack asked righting himself before landing next to Kristoff.

"Sorry you startled me, just come with me." Kristoff said, clearing his throat and beckoning him to come inside as he walked over to the door and unlocked it.

"Are you going to tie me up again?"Jack inquired. Kristoff smirked at this and shook his head.

"Oh, I wouldn't dare to, something tells me you would escape way too easily."

"So, do you actually need me or do you just want to insult me?" Jack then added making his voice all innocent.

"Can't it be both." Kristoff asked as he led him down an empty hallway and towards a large set of double doors. He pushed them open to reveal a large library with shelves of books lining the walls with portraits occasionally being hung around the room and an unlit fireplace against the wall, with soft velvet like -

"Books woo-hoo.…" Jack muttered to himself as Kristoff shot him a look and walked over towards a bookcase filled with a variety of dust covered books. Jack ran his hand across the spine of several books smearing away dust and grime.

"So why did you bring me here, again?" He asked, wiping his hand on his pants and eyeing Kristoff.

"You told Anna you need to protect Elsa and other people who have interacted with magic or something. So how are you going to do that?"

"I'm not sure about that part yet."

"Hmm…well you should probably figure that out."

"That's the plan."

"Would you like help with this project of yours." Jack turned to Krisoff, in surprise at the offer.

"Forgive me for not seeing something, but why would you help me?"

"Well for one, you didn't seem to make the best first impression on Elsa so it would probably be best if you leave as soon as you can." Jack opened his mouth to defend himself then paused and closed it again.

"Point taken…" Jack muttered under his breath. "So how would you recommend starting this goal, it seems as if you have a few ideas since you dragged me in here."

"How would you protect someone? Who are you protecting them from? I figured the best place to begin would be to figure out what you need to do."

Jack mused over this as Kristoff began collecting books from the bookshelf and stacking them in a pile.

"Go do whatever you wish with these." Kristoff instructed as he turned to leave the room. "They have some stuff about magic in them."

"Where are you going?"

"I still have to help Anna rule this kingdom." he called out over his shoulder as he walked out the doors and firmly closed them behind him.

Jack nodded as silence filled the library again. He glanced at the massive window that looked out towards the ford.

The winter spirit sighed and looked at the books again. He walked over and picked one up, tucking it under his arm and making his way over to a sofa that laid in front of a crackling fireplace.

He flicked his staff causing a layer of frost to spread over the burning logs smoldering the flames for the moment as he sprawled out on the couch and flipped to the first page.

His eyes lazily scanned through the first few pages of the book trying to obtain and remember this incredible boring information. He suddenly perked up as a creak echoed through the room.

Sitting up and placing the book aside he gripped his staff, his eyes scanning the room for anything out of the ordinary.

"Hi!" A voice then said. Jack quickly looked around to see if anyone besides him was in the room, his knuckles turning white as his body tensed up.

The spirit quickly jumped off the couch and made his way to the window. He placed his hand behind him grabbing the lock securely in hand, fumbling for a moment before he managed to undo the lock and was about to push the window open when the voice began again.

"Hello, what are you doing?" Jack turned expecting a child to be there, never in his three hundred years off life was he expecting there to be a small knee high snowman instead.

Jack screamed and grabbed the nearest thing next to him which happened to be a thick volume of some kind and chucked it at the snowman, hitting him in the chest before running towards the other side of the room.

"WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU!" he cried out in disbelief as the snowman picked the book up and placed it back on the windowsill.

"I'm so sorry, I tend to have this effect on people." The snowman apologized.

"W-what, how are you alive?!" Jack stammered back away until his back hit the wall.

"My friend Elsa made me, I know, crazy right." the snowman laughed as he waddled over.

"She what?!" Jack asked, floating into the air as the snowman waddled over.

"She and Anna, that's the queen of Arendelle by the way, made me when they were kids, she made me again when she became queen, that's a different story though."

"Elsa's like your mother then…." Jack trailed off in utter confusion.

"No silly, she just made me with magic snow that made me come to life."

Jack nodded, swallowing down his disbelief as he shook his head trying to understand what was happening.

"So Queeny can make life with magic snow…" Jack laughed, running a hand through his hair. "Go figure I managed to annoy the only woman who could potentially make an entire army at her disposal."

"Would you like to come down?" The snowman asked as he stood underneath Jack giving him an odd look.

"Uhhh, no I'm okay up here thanks though snowman guy…." Jack said, clutching his staff to his chest and floating upwards a few inches.

"Okay, well would you like to know my name? Maybe that'll help you be less scared."

"I'm not scared, I just didn't know it was possible to make life with snow that's all." Jack lied. "But sure, what's your name?"

"I'm Olaf, what's your name?"

"Jackson…." Jack then answered after a moment.

"Nice to meet you Jackson, do you have a nickname or anything cause there's a few boys in the town named William but are called Will for short."

"Just stick with Jackson for now." Jack nodded.

"Ok, if you don't mind me asking, how are you floating, is Gale helping you?"

"Who?"

"Gale, the wind." Jack stared in shock for a moment.

"The…wind has a name?" he then said slowly.

"Yep, in fact I named them," Olaf said proudly.

"Of course you did…." Jack muttered. He then felt a small prick of guilt form in his stomach. He had only called the wind, well wind he didn't know it had a name he only knew it helped him when he called to help him get from place to place.

"Soo, uh does the wind, um I mean Gale.." Jack started feeling awkward. "Um, do they prefer being called by their name….ooor."

"I don't know if you should ask them, they seem to like you though since they're helping you float." Jack nodded absentmindedly.

How the heck do you ask the wind a question, much less get an answer?! Jack thought to himself. He softly rolled his eyes and prepared what he was going to say.

"Ummm…..Gale." Jack grimaced, feeling uncomfortable. "Would you prefer being called Gale, I-I hope I didn't offend you by just calling you wind over the years. I swear I had no idea you had a name." Jack waited for a moment feeling flustered as there was only silence.

A small breeze then came through the air gently circling Jack in a calming way.

Jack paused and gently loosened his grip on his staff as he was gently lowered to the ground.

"So, Gale, if you don't mind me asking, why do you help me?" Jack prompted. The wind gently circled him again before blowing his staff out of his hands.

"Why did you do that?" the gust of air then pressed gently against Jack's chest against his heart.

"My chest, yes, what about it?" Jack asked, confused.

"Maybe they meant something inside your chest." Olaf suggested as he went over grabbing Jack's staff, awkwardly cradling it in both his small arms.

"My center?" Jack then asked softly. The wind circled around his head, chirping in his ear. "I'll take that as a yes, so you help me because of my center or because of what I did to get my center?"

The wind circled his head twice.

"Number two then, well thank you for helping me over the years." Jack said, running a hand through his hair and patting it back down into place.

"Why do you have such a big stick? Do you need it to walk?" Olaf then asked.

"What no..I-I don't need it to walk I just have it, it helps me with some stuff." Jack answered after a moment

"Oh like what."

"Private stuff I would rather you not know about."

"Well I like your stick, does it have a name?"

"No…I-I've never named my staff."

"I think you should name it cause then it'll have a special name, for example when Elsa named me I was 'Olaf and I like warm hugs.' That's a bit of a mouthful though so we just decided to go with Olaf." Olaf suggested as he handed Jack back his staff.

Jack sighed and rubbed between his eyes. "That's great, I'm not going to name my staff though, now if you don't mind I would like to get back to what I was doing before." That last part might have been a lie but he wasn't really in the mood to hear this magical bundle of snow's life story.

"What were you reading? I prefer Charles Dickens best."

"A book someone recommended. I'm not a huge reader, so I've never really looked at Charles Dickens' writing."

"You should, I'll go find some. The librarian tends to put some in a special section for me." Olaf called out happily as he went over to a nearby bookshelf and ruffled through it.

Jack nodded silently and slowly gripped his staff and walked back to the couch grabbing his book once more, thumbing it to the page he had left off on.

Silently ten minutes passed in a peaceful quiet. A loud crash then echoed through the air. Jack jumped and turned to Olaf in surprise as he began to unbury himself from a pile of books.

"What…did you do?" Jack asked, pulling at his hair.

"Sorry, I had tried to get another book but it was a little much, hey do you mind will you grab my nose right, no not there, yes there thank you." Olaf said as he straightened his nose and pushed his arm back into place.

"Please have nobody hear that, please nobody hear that." Jack softly whispered as he began to stack books back into the shelf.

"Why is there frost on the fireplace? That's odd." Olaf then called out from across the room. Jack groaned under his breath and ran back over to him.

"I don't think you should be around this." Jack said gently pushing Olaf away from the fireplace.

"Oh it's fine I like heat, in fact I prefer it to the cold. Speaking of which your hands are cold, would you like me to make a fire so you can warm up?" Jack froze.

"You, enjoy the heat willingly?" he finally said. Olaf nodded. "Excuse me if this is rude but wouldn't you die?"

"Oh no, Elsa made it so I can't melt." Olaf promised.

"Great cause I don't need snowman murder added to my conscious." Jack muttered as he grabbed his book and tucked it under his arm.

"You look a lot like Elsa." Olaf then said. Jack paused, unsure how to take this.

"Thank you?"

"Do you have magic like her?" Jack hesitated unsure whether or not to answer.

"No." He finally lied.

"You hesitated, you're lying."

"No I'm not." Jack lied again.

"It's okay if you have magic, can you show me?"

"Not right now, but sometime maybe I have to go find my friend."

"Oh ok, well bye Jackson!" Olaf then said with a wave as he skipped out the library.

"Bye." Jack then quickly tucked the book under his arm and grabbed his staff. He dug through his pocket before pulling the snowglobe out from his pocket.

"Take me to Ganderly." he whispered, raising it to his lips before throwing it to the ground. A portal appeared moments later. Jack quickly looked around and grabbed the first three books from the stack Kristoff had given him before jumping through the portal.

Katherine peacefully walked through Ganderly with Kailash following behind her. A loud thud then echoed through a nearby room. The young woman gave a small jump of surprise before hurrying off into the room she had heard the noise penetrate from.

She gasped in surprise as Jack sat there with a small pile of books sprawled out next to him as he pushed himself to his feet.

"Hi Kat." he groaned.

"What are you doing here?" Katherine asked, pulling Jack to his feet.

"I came to find you figured my best bet was here…so how have you been? I've been stuck in the 1800s."

Katherine bit back a smile at Jack's bitterness towards her leaving.

"Surely it couldn't have been that bad right?"

"No it wasn't that bad. I got tied to a bed and met a magical snowman, so it was an average day."

"What…"

"You missed out in all honesty I guess that's what you get though for leaving me." Jack sighed as he rose to his feet and picked up his small collection of books.

"What are the books for?" Katherine asked, eying them excitedly.

"Yes I'm fine, someone I met gave them to me they thought they could help me."

"Can I look at them please?" Katherine asked, barely able to contain herself.

"If I say no you're going to combust, so knock yourself out." Katherine happily grabbed one of the books and thumbed it open to the first page. After about ten minutes she got a confused look on her face as she stared at the book.

"What?" Jack asked, turning to her.

"Is it the sun?" She whispered as she handed the book over to Jack. Jack glanced down at the book and saw an image of a young woman with insanely long hair wrapped around an injured man. Pointing her finger at the woman's dress Jack noticed the sun like symbol from earlier was engraved on her dress. On the next page was an image of the same woman but with her hair wrapped around the same man but instead they looked healthy and well.

"I don't know, their hair healed him. I guess maybe a fairy tale book got mixed up in the pile or something. Maybe she got her magic hair from the sun?" Jack shrugged, putting the book to the side. "Would your father know anything about that?"

Katherine thought for a moment. "I'm not sure I don't think anyone would be able to heal someone without having some magical item or relic to help them first."

"Huh….well Elsa has magic without being chosen to be a guardian or any magical aid of some kind to my knowledge."

"Odd, where did you get this book?"

"Anna's husband gave it to me; he said it might help with finding who I was looking for."

"He'd be the king right, he would know about who's helped the kingdom and hurt it."

"That's what he said yes." Katherine picked the book up once more and glanced at the woman. She appeared to be relatively young and healthy. "Are you going to be headed home or back to Arendelle?"

"I'm going to head back to Arendalle at least for the time being these books aren't mine."

"If you find out who this woman is I want you to bring Elsa and her to Santoff Clausen, the old one I want them to speak with Ombric."

"I can do that, don't miss me too much, well I'm gone." Jack said a small grin spreading across his face as he picked up the books and prepared to go to Arendalle.

"I hope I'll see you all soon."

"Bye Kat."
