Chapter 8: The sundrop meets the Moon's guardian.

"What?" Elsa blinked and stared at Jack in slight confusion.

"You heard me, besides we should go there anyway to make sure we truly aren't hurt."

Elsa's heart leapt in her chest. "When you say a magical village…what, do you mean?"

"What I said, it's a village that uses magic."

"How?"

"Well mostly there's this wizard, but the moon sometimes helps." Elsa nodded intrigued.

"How long will it take to get there?"

"We're already here." Jack then said with a smile as he swept his hand out to a thick grove of trees. Elsa carefully looked at the trees trying to pinpoint anything out of the ordinary or special about them.

"They're a lot more special from the other side." Jack said with a small shrug as he made his way to the trees. Elsa faltered and then glanced down at her arm where her scar was.

Suddenly the realization of what had happened earlier hit her. She had foolishly trusted this man, gone to another spirit and only to have gotten hurt at an attack of some kind and have Jack take her to a magical town.

"What am I doing?" Elsa whispered slightly panicked. How do I know this isn't some trap, I've never fought another person with magic before. She glanced up at Jack who had made it to the edge of the forest and seemed to be looking around.

Elsa gently clenched and unclenched her hands before waving them a small dagger of ice appearing in her hand. She gently tucked it into her belt before waving her hands a thin cloak of weaved ice and frost attaching to her shoulders and cascading down her body. She quickly adjusted it so that the dagger was hidden before following Jack.

"So is the village through the trees?"

"Not quite." Jack said, turning to her. He gave her a slightly confused look at the cloak but didn't say anything. "We do have to go through it though."

At this he began to make his way through the trees. Elsa quickly followed through as well.

"Now, I don't know if this will happen, but don't touch anything ok?" Elsa looked around in confusion but didn't see anything besides the occasional root of a tree and the seemingly endless trees.

The duo walked through the trees as they casted gentle shadows over them. Elsa then froze when the trees began to merge with thick brambles that grew thicker and sharper the farther you went in.

Carefully she watched as Jack flicked his hand causing the brambles to slowly thin and fold backwards until a wider path was made.

He hastily made his way down the path. Elsa followed after him, careful to not snag herself on any of the occasional thorns that would still be pointed towards them.

She then noticed a thin grove of trees in the distance. Jack's pace quickened as he noticed it as well.

"Welcome to Santoff Claussen." Jack announced as they broke through the treeline. Elsa looked around in slight confusion.

The only buildings she could see were a small cluster of them on the other side of the clearing. Other than that the only other things in the clearing were trees and the occasional hill.

"Where is everyone…"

"Probably in Big Root." Jack explained, pointing to a massive tree in the center of the clearing.

Elsa stared at Jack in confusion. "Inside it…" she repeated staring at the

"Uh huh."

"I…alright."

Jack smirked softly to himself as he knocked on the thick bark of Big Root. He could feel Elsa's gaze burn on his back.

After a few moments a large oval shaped door began to form and take shape. A smooth curved handle then penetrated through the door.

Jack turned to Elsa who had a look of shock on her face as he placed his hand on the handle.

"After you.." he said smugly as he pulled open the door. Elsa fought the urge to roll her eyes as she stepped inside. Within moments she could tell Jack wasn't lying about everyone being in Big Root. A massive crowd of people were inside all chatting and helping themselves to the occasional refreshment or drink that would float by on a tray.

"Come on, we got to find Ombric." Jack instructed as he began to make his way through the crowd. Elsa followed silently as she took in everything around her. She gave a small gasp as a floating tray with a drink of some sort nearly collided with her head.

She watched as a man grabbed two glasses off of it and walked off only to have them reappear moments later.

A loud thing of laughter then ran past her. Elsa looked around and saw a group of children push their way through the crowd.

She watched silently as they ran through the door and outside. Elsa carefully looked around and was slightly surprised to see no one go after them.

She silently followed after them. The snow queen watched as the oldest girl pulled something out of her coat and poured it onto her hand. Elsa squinted as she tried to make out what it was in the fading evening sun.

The girl then leaned down and placed her covered hand on the ground. The others watched in excitement as a large clump of flowers and grass sprouted up from her touch.

Elsa let out an audible gasp as her breath caught in her throat. A heavy pressure then began to spread from her chest. The two younger children then began to laugh and rapidly say something Elsa was unable to make out.

Suddenly a faint green glow then caught Elsa's eye. Resting on a nearby bush was a small firefly.

It soon took off upon Elsa's gaze shifting to it. She smiled as it flew over to the youngest child and rested on their hand. Soon more of the magical insects followed their leader until they had lit up the grass in a beautiful display of lights.

A boy led one onto his finger and said something to it. The bug flickered in response and the boy's face lit up as he said something to the girl and they both began to talk over each other in their excitement.

"There you are." Elsa turned around surprised to see Jack coming through the door.

"Hello." She greeted politely.

"What are you doing?"

"I…I wanted to make sure they were ok." Elsa said sheepishly gesturing towards the group of children.

Jack followed her hand and gave a look of understanding. "Ohh, they're fine, it's not uncommon for kids to explore on their own here." Elsa turned back to the kids.

"Wouldn't that be unsafe?"

"Under normal circumstances yes, there's magic that'll keep them safe though, they also have reindeer and a bear so…" Elsa's eyebrows shot up at this last part. She quickly bit her lip to keep herself from questioning it.

"What are they doing?"

"What do you mean?"

"They…also seemed to be, speaking, to the bug." Elsa said grimacing at how pathetic this sounded. Jack just nodded.

"Yeah, it's one of the ways of magic Ombric teaches." Elsa froze at this.

"Teaches? Like he taught them how to…"

"Yeah, he created this place out of magic, made it a home for those who didn't have one." Jack's face went still for a moment as if he seemed to be thinking about something.

"Did he teach you how to use magic?" Elsa prompted. Jack gave a half-hearted laugh at this.

"Nope, I taught myself that."

"Why didn't he help you?" Jack looked downcasted for a moment.

"Let's just say, I really wasn't known about until about five years ago." he finally answered .

"What do you mean?"

"Nothing,"Jack cleared his throat and looked around."Anyways, I found someone who can help us." Elsa nodded and followed after him back inside.

Jack led the two of them to another room where several tables sat filled with food and desserts.

Elsa watched as he went up to a man with dark brownish red hair and dark green eyes around twenty-three and got his attention.

The man gave Jack a surprised but also happy expression. Elsa watched as Jack said something to him and the man looked over Jack's shoulder only now noticing her.

He cocked an eyebrow slightly at this but returned back to the conversation. After a moment he sat down at an empty table and beckoned for Jack and Elsa to do the same.

"So, what can I help you with Jackie?"

"One, don't call me that, two, we just need to find Ombric." Jack explained.

"Hmm, who is your lovely friend over here?" The man asked, sending Elsa a kind smile.

"Elsa, and you are?" Elsa butted in.

"William the almost youngest." Elsa gave a puzzled look at this.

"All of us boys were named William and I just happened to be the second born out of three." he explained. "So I was the almost youngest."

"I see."

"Yeah, just call me William or Will though."

"Great, now that that's done, where is Ombric?" Jack asked. William smirked at Jack.

"You fought didn't you?" Jack bristled at this but remained expressionless.

"No." William gave an amused look at Jack.

"Liar."

"No, I'm not lying."

"Look at your hands." William then instructed. Jack sighed but did so and saw his hand had tightly clenched his staff and turned white around his knuckles. "You clench up when you lie."

Jack sighed and ran a hand through his hair in annoyance. "Okay, so maybe we fought but it's fine"

"Who got hurt, how bad."

Jack begrudgingly held out his arm and pushed up his sleeve revealing a bruised arm.

"Nothing worse than that for me ok?" William carefully eye'd Jack but nodded satisfied.

"You okay?" William then asked, turning to Elsa. Elsa nodded. "Good, now follow me." He pushed himself up from his chair and led them out of the room and back to the main one.

William grabbed a drink from a nearby tray and led them through the crowd and up a set of stairs until they got to a hall.

"So what's going on down there?" Elsa asked.

"Celebration when it's a full moon we make a party here and celebrate with magic." William explained finishing his glass.

"Do you have magic?"

"Nope, got partial immortality though since I helped the other guardians a few decades back."

"What do you do then if you don't have magic here?"

"I teach people how to fight, with and without magic."

"Yeah, he's only nearly lost a student like twice.." Jack muttered under his breath. William shot him a sour look and opened his mouth to say something when the door opened.

A tall lean old man appeared in the door and smiled upon seeing the three of them.

"Hello Jack, Elsa." Elsa was taken aback at this.

"Hi Ombric." Jack sighed seemingly relieved. William nodded at the wizard then turned to Jack.

"If you need me I'll be downstairs, nice to meet you Elsa." At this the other man then left the two spirits alone with Ombric.

"Come in would you, I hear you need assistance." Jack nodded sheepishly and began to walk through the door when Elsa caught his arm. She waited till Ombric walked to the other side of the room and began to prepare something to speak.

"How does he do that?"

"Do what?"

"He knew who I was and…"

"Father time remember, he can see the very close future sometimes and it seems like he can today." Jack walked into the room leaving Elsa but no choice to follow him unless she wanted to stay standing in the door frame.

"Tea?" Elsa looked and saw a tray that had three teacups filled with a warm liquid along with a silver plate of a biscuit or cookie of some kind along with several jams of some kind.

Elsa politely declined but Jack grabbed a biscuit and smothered it in jam before popping half of it in his mouth.

"So, what happened?" Ombric asked, grabbing his own cup of tea. Elsa turned to Jck frowning softly at seeing his mouth was full so she had to answer.

"Well, we were at Ganderly and something happened and destroyed a room, so we came here to make sure neither of us were hurt."

"Just to be clear, we didn't leave Kat. she told us to come here." Jack butted in after a moment. "She is unscaved by the way."

"I presume you two were not?"

"Ehh, more or less, we're good now." Jack shrugged. Elsa glanced down at her scar and was relieved to see it had remind the plain white line.

"Good." Ombric then turned his attention to Elsa. Elsa sat up straighter and tried not to squirm or wince under the man's kind gaze.

"So, how did you get magic?" He then asked. Elsa froze and clasped her hands in her lap.

"Ahtohallen gave it to me for what my mother did to help my father."

"Ah- what?" Jack softly whispered puzzled as he watched.

"Yes, I remember Ahtohallen I didn't know it was still existing."

"Wait…what?" Jack said, confused.

"It's a place of memories." Elsa explained. "So yes I got my magic from them and was made a spirit."

"Are you immortal?" Ombric asked. Elsa bristled at this. It was one of the things that she still wasn't sure about.

"I don't know." she answered truthfully. Ombric stroked his beard thoughtfully and gathered the tray up from where it was waiting.

"Interesting. However I'm afraid I can't talk for much longer, as I must speak with man in moon."

"Hey, do you mind if we stay in here tonight?" Jack asked dusting crumbs off his pants as he stood up.

"Stay as long as you wish."

"Thank you."

"Yes, you may choose any rooms you wish." Ombric offered as he went through the door and it closed behind him.

"You should have had one of those biscuits, they were good." Jack said, grabbing his staff. "Anyways, I guess we leave tomorrow morning."

"Yes."

"Great, do you plan on bringing the dagger with you?"

Elsa sighed and turned into her back adjusting the covers of the soft bed she was currently laying on. She had given up on getting sleep, which was a shame since it probably would have been a well rested one with how comfortable this bedding was.

Silently she glanced back at the cloak and dagger which had been folded and placed upon the bedside table.

Restlessly she sat up and crossed the room to a window. She carefully pulled the curtain back and looked around. She could see lights illuminating the buildings that laid nearby as people happily walked around in the moonlight.

She could feel tears prick the side of her eyes as she placed her hand against the window pane.

"Hey Queeny, wake up." Elsa's eyes flew open as a knock echoed through the room.

She slowly sat up and rubbed her eyes. "What."

"We're leaving for the hair lady, remember." Elsa nodded to herself as she pushed herself out of bed. She quickly flicked her hand, her dress changing into a new one before she slipped her sandals back on and walked over to the door.

She pulled the door open to see Jack about to knock again, clearly surprised.

"Do you ever sleep?" Elsa asked, looking at Jack who looked completely the same.

"Immortal, don't need it, now let's go."

"You are very impatient." Elsa chided as she followed him through Big Root. Jack ignored this as he grabbed a snowglobe and handed it to Elsa.

"Say wherever the hair lady lives into it and it'll take us there."

"Stop. Calling. Her. that." Elsa demanded.

"If I discover her name I'll let you know, for now just take us there."

Elsa brought the snow globe up to her lips and whispered into it before tossing it to the floor.

Jack winced as bright sunlight flooded his eyes. He then let out a strangled gasp as something hit his back knocking him to the ground and hair covered his face and vision.

"Get off me." he cried out as Elsa clambered off him.

"I-I so sorry…" Elsa stammered. Jack spit as he whipped at his mouth

"That's…your hair." Jack said as he pulled a single strand off him. "Ohh...that's disgusting." he said, flicking it away.

Elsa sighed and barely refrained from rolling her eyes as she grabbed Jack by his wrist and jerked him to his feet.

Her light blue eyes then began to scan the area for anyone that resembled the woman from the book.

She then noticed a poster stapled to a nearby post. The snow queen walked over to it, examining it closely.

Painted it a beautiful cursive like lettering was an announcement for a meeting with the king or queen if they wished so.

Elsa's eyes widened softly at this as she turned to Jack smiling.

"You want to do what?!" Jack exclaimed in surprise. Elsa sighed and restated her idea.

"Okay, but I mean this in the best way possible, but…at the moment you don't look like a royal…I mean you're very pretty…I mean…I uhh…you know." Jack stammered flustered.

Elsa nodded understandably. "I agree, I'll need to find a way to look presentable."

Jack grimaced at this.

"I think you look fine, I was just saying that compared to the stereotypical royal look, you look different that's all."

"Still, we might be able to get an audience quicker if I looked more like a queen." Elsa said pacing slightly. Jack watched from against the wall of the small alleyway Elsa had dragged him into. "Turn around." she then commanded.

"Huh?"

"Do it." Jack obeyed. He soon heard the sound of fabric rustling and a cold breeze as several snowflakes whipped past him and he felt his face grow hot.

"You can turn around now." Elsa then said after a moment. Jack hesitantly turned around and was surprised to see her dawning a new outfit.

It was a simple but elegant dress, a dark blue color with a train of some sort coming out from her wrist and attaching to her upper arm on each arm. A small cape trailed from behind. Her sandals had been swapped out for a pair of heels the same color as the dress.

Elsa's hair had also been pulled up into a braided bun with a simple crown of ice nestled on her head.

Jack's eyes widened as he took in her new form.

"Yeah, you…uh…wow."

"Do I look formal enough?" Elsa asked, tucking a spare strand of hair into her bun.

Jack nodded immediately and blinked. It wasn't until after a moment he realized he was still looking at her.

He quickly averted his gaze as subtly as he could. "So, what do you plan on doing when you get to the castle, or wherever this is being held."

"I'll request a private audience and then tell them calmly about you."

"And if they don't believe you." Elsa sighed and rubbed her face.

"Then we will deal with that and make them believe in you in some way." Jack nodded skeptically.

"Okay, let's do this then."

The two of them hurried through the town until they got to the castle. After about thirty minutes of waiting in line they were next.

Jack floated lazily in the air next to Elsa; he could faintly hear the sounds of a woman arguing as another woman patiently explained something a man occasionally chiming in.

Jack quickly backed up as the door swung open nearly hitting him in the face. A short angry looking old lady stormed out of the room muttering something about princesses and thievery.

Jack glanced down and saw Elsa take a deep breath before straightening her shoulders and folding her hands in front of her. Elegantly she stepped inside the room as Jack ducked after her and landed a few feet to her side.

"Hello you majesties." Elsa said kindly, dropping into a curtsy.

"Hello. How may we help you today?" The woman replied kindly. Jack turned his attention to her as Elsa began to request a private audience.

She had short brown hair only reaching just past her ears, a light dusting of gray freckles on her nose and dark green eyes.

"Of course." the woman then said, snapping Jack out of his gaze. The nearby guards then began to file out of the room.

"So what would you like to discuss?" Elsa took a deep breath as she locked eye contact with the other queen.

"I am unsure if you remember me, but I was the former queen of Arendalle until three years ago."

The man raised his eyes in surprise. "I remember you now, what are you doing here?"

"Well, I have a friend who needs to speak to you but is unable to." Elsa explained shakily.

"Who?"

"J-Jack…Jack frost." Elsa said after a moment. For a moment the two monarchs froze then turned to each other.

"Whom?"

"Jack Frost." Elsa replied more steadily this time.

"Honey, I hate to break this to you but..um I..he doesn't exist." The man stammered.

"He does though, all I ask is that you believe in him and you will be able to see him."

Jack glanced over at Elsa who looked like she was about to faint. He quickly flicked his hand causing a cool breeze to flow over her.

"What's the harm Eugene?" The woman whispered to her partner. "It'll make her feel better."

"He doesn't exist though blondie, if we try and nothing happens what do we do? Elsa clearly seems to be going through something, I don't think she's in her right mind right now." Eugene responded barely audibly.

Jack caught this though. He turned to Elsa who hadn't reacted. Suddenly a prick of anger began to boil in him. Why can't you just do it? He wondered, his gaze turning hard at the other man. What harm does it do to you?

"Do it.." Jack whispered under his breath as the man turned back to Elsa. Jack also faced Elsa. "I'm going to try something."

Elsa's face went shocked for a moment but she quickly concealed it as she frantically willed Jack to stop.

Jack looked around then noticed a purple cloth sticking out from under a curtain. He quickly picked it up and crumpled it in his hand.

He walked back over to the royals and laided the cloth on the ground in front of them. He then flicked his staff a pillar of ice shooting up from underneath the cloth as frost coated it.

The two royals let out a gasp of surprise as they both turned to Elsa who looked equally surprised.

Eugene looked around in surprise as he scanned the room.

"Let me guess this is Jack?" Elsa caught Jack's eye and nodded sternly, casting him a look.

"Yes, now if he would make the ice leave, that would be lovely." Rapunzel then let out a scream of surprise.

"I…Eugene!" Eugene looked around to where Rapunzel was staring at Jack. Eugene then let out a silent gasp as Jack then came into view.

"Hi." Jack answered in a deadpan tone. Eugene looked around in surprise then gasped as guards then ran into the room.

"Your majesty is everything alright?" Rapunzel froze, staring at Jack. Her dark green eyes burned into his.

"I..he…I." Rapunzel stammered not taking her eyes off Jack.

"Where did they go?" a guard asked carefully.

"He's here, but…" Rapunzel explained. Suddenly a guard then noticed Jack.

"What did you do?" he demanded. Jack's eyes grew wide in surprise as the guard came towards him.

"You can see me?" Jack questioned.

"Of course I can see you." the guard replied, grabbing Jack's arm.

"Let go of me!" Jack demanded jerking his arm away.

"Your majesty, for your safety we must take this man into questioning."

"What?!" Jack cried out in surprise.

"No! He didn't do anything!" Elsa explained frantically. Her cries fell of death ears as the guard grabbed Jack's other arm.

"Tell them I didn't do anything!" Jack cried out to Rapunzel and Eugene. Rapunzel gasped as she shook her head, seeming to come out of a shock.

"No stop!" she ordered. However the guard continued on. Suddenly there was a knock at the door as someone opened it and more people began to come in and talk over each other.

"One moment people!" Eugene requested as he turned to Elsa.

"You, go through that door and wait, understand?" Elsa gave a small nod at this and obeyed.

You idiotic spirit. Elsa mussed bitterly to herself.
