Enjoy!
Early Friday morning around four a.m. is when the children have to be at the train station. Most parents look as tired as Tony and Angela feel. The kids are excited though. After half an hour of being at the station, Tony and Angela come home eager to take a nap before their trip.
Tony is the first to wake up and decides to fix himself and Angela breakfast.
"Something smells good," Angela announces when she comes downstairs in her robe and sock clad feet.
"Only the best for you before our trip! Gotta have as much energy as possible," Tony replies setting a plate of pancakes, eggs, and bacon on the table. Sitting beside her the couple talk about their plans for the trip as they eat. An hour later they decide to get ready for the day. Tony, finishing getting ready before Angela decides to run the vacuum for a bit while he waits. Finally coming down the stairs ready for the trip, Tony is struck by how gorgeous she looks.
"'Well, I'm all set'," Angela announces almost embarrassed by the attention she receives. Taking in his wife's outfit Tony announces, "'Look at you you look like a uh regular Snow Bunny.'"
With a small laugh, Angela is glad when the phone rings. She is at a loss for words about what to say to the unexpected compliment. Answering the phone, Tony finds out the kids are on the line. Calling Angela over, the couple listen as the kids tell them about their trip on the train before having to tell Jonathan and Samantha good-bye and giving them advice to watch out for each other. Hanging up, the couple feels almost sad without their children around. Commenting that the family is separated from each other for the first time going on separate trips.
"'It feels kind of strange'," Angela remarks.
"'Yeah it does'," Tony adds before grinning widely. "You ready? I've got plenty of surprises in store for this weekend!"
"Ooh! I love surprises."
Giddy to be able to get away the couple makes sure the house is properly locked before heading to Maine. Unfortunately, they are unable to make it due to the snow and settle on going to the Fairfield Inn.
"No 'Wall of Jericho' this time, Angela," Tony teases once they get settled putting their bags away as Tony sits on the bed. Smirking, Angela answers, "No twin beds either."
After a pause, Tony asks what they want to do first. For a couple's weekend just the two of them, the couple feels a little awkward. Actually getting away from the house is new territory for them and neither wants to ruin the weekend.
"Let's start a fire," Angela suggests.
"On it!" Tony announces going to the fireplace. Crouching beside him, Angela watches Tony as he lights the wood in the fireplace always enamored by all the things he can do. No matter what needs to be done, Tony does it. His reliability is something Angela likes best about Tony. Lost in her thoughts, she fails to notice Tony asking her if she wants a glass of wine.
"Angela?" He asks again. Noticing him now, Angela answers him.
"Wine?"
Nodding, Angela accepts before standing and smiling at Tony. Watching Angela's expression for a moment, Tony asks, "What?"
"Nothing. I'm just always surprised at how good you are at things."
"What kind of things?" Tony asks suggestively. Taking a sip of her wine, Angela smiles against the rim before turning away from him toward the balcony doors. Putting his glass down and following her out, Tony comes up behind her and puts an arms around her waist.
"Isn't it beautiful out?" Angela asks as she settles into Tony's arms. Tony hums in response before kissing Angela's neck.
"Beautiful," He answers.
Later, as Tony and Angela lay in bed, Tony smirks as Angela starts laughing silently to herself. When Tony asks her about it, Angela deflects, embarrassed.
"What?" Tony presses. After a moment Angela finally replies, "It's something Mother said."
"Oh no! Must be great coming from Mona," Tony states with a hint of sarcasm. Chuckling, Angela answers noncomitally hoping Tony will drop the subject. He does for a bit. They decide to order room service and Tony makes sure the fire is still burning in the fireplace. Not until they finish eating and watching the sunset does Tony bring up again what Mona said. Shaking her head, Angela answers, "It's silly. I don't even know why I thought about it."
"Well now you have to tell me."
With a sigh, Angela answers, "Well, she kind of sort of said- jokingly- to come back with a grandkid. And to take a week as a belated honeymoon."
Stunned, Tony says nothing until Angela raises an eyebrow at him. Finally, Tony answers, "Honeymoon isn't that bad an idea there, Angela."
"Just let me clear it with my supervisor," Angela sarcastically replies heading back inside their room. Confused by her response, Tony slowly follows her. Watching her stand by the fire for a minute, Tony finally asks her what is wrong. Waiving off the remark, Angela answers, "It's nothing, Tony."
"It's not nothing if it upsets you. What's wrong? What did I say?"
"Nothing," Angela replies making clear that Tony knows that is the issue. Confusion covers Tony's face for a bit as he thinks over his action before asking, "Was it the grandkid thing? Are you-?"
"No! I just, Mother's comment got me thinking."
"About having kids? Angela, you know you're mother. She's all bark and no bite."
Angela stays quiet causing Tony to ask, "Do you want more kids?"
"You know I do, it's just this whole marriage is a secret. Can you imagine what would happen if I did get pregnant now? How the neighbors would gossip? Not to mention the kids! They'd be mortified!"
"Eh oh, Angela. It's alright. It's not like we're in a place right now to even contemplate having a kid. You're thinking too much," Tony reasons. He watches Angela let out a heavy sigh. Turning toward Tony, Angela replies, "You're right. I shouldn't get so worked up about this. It's just you know how Mother gets to me sometimes."
Tony nods very aware of Mona and Angela's relationship. After a moment Tony tells Angela that her mother is not there which causes Angela to smile and the couple to resume the same intimacy they had before.
Coming home on Sunday, Tony and Angela eagerly take the time to relax before their kids come home. Once their kids do come back, the couple is very happy to just have the two kids when Sam and Jonathan enter the house arguing. When Samantha walks off to close the front door and put her things away, Angela hears her son ask, "'Did you know when you put a glass up to the wall you can hear everything?'"
"'I did! Yeah!'" Tony answers with a laugh earning a glare from his wife. Smiling sheepishly, Tony looks back at Jonathan prompting him to take his dirty clothes to the basement. Hands on her hips now, Angela asks, "Where did my son learn that trick?"
Holding up his hands, Tony denies having taught the child adding, "And I also never used that trick to spy on girls!"
"Right," Angela drawls out with an eye roll.
