The long day Angela tells Tony about the night before turns into a long week. Unable to squeeze in a client one afternoon that week, Angela persuades him to come over and listen to her campaign in her living room. Agreeing, the client, Max Muldoon meets Angela on a Thursday afternoon. Eager to sell her pitch, the blonde is upset when her mother steals Max away. She is elated, however, when Mona and Max start dating. Her mother has never been so happy as she is now and Angela tells her so. Max and Mona date for a few weeks before Max calls off the relationship. Given the order from Max for Tony to tell Mona about the break up, Tony is devastated when he sees the look on Mona's face. Standing behind her mother, Angela mouths to Tony how awful the situation is. When Angela and Tony go to confront Max after Mona retreats to her apartment, they are convinced there is another woman involved. They are doubly surprised to find that the other woman is not Max's housekeeper who lets Tony and Angela inside the apartment, but Max's six month old daughter, Katharine Anne. Seeing the baby, the couple instantly melts.
"'She's so cute!'" Angela remarks smiling at the baby. Gently moving his wife out of the way, Tony starts to play with the baby before telling Max that the baby has a great name.
"'Why didn't you tell my mother about this?'" Angela asks still surprised to see the baby in Max's arms. Telling them that he thinks Mona does not want to be tied down, Angela and Tony convince him to talk to Mona. He agrees and follows the pair back to their house. Walking through the front door, Tony and Angela call out for Mona surprised when she is not at least in the kitchen. Telling the men that she will get her mother, Angela leaves through the kitchen toward the garage leaving Tony and Max alone together. Motioning for Max to sit down at the kitchen table, Tony asks if the older man wants anything to drink.
"No thanks. You have a daughter, too," Max remarks trying to make small talk with Tony. Sitting down beside the man, Tony answers, "Yeah. She's great! Looks just like her mother."
With a smirk, Max states, "I feel like Katherine Anne will too."
Just then the door opens, and Max immediately stands up. When Mona sees the baby in Max's arms, she immedediatly asks what is going on stating, "I know she's not theirs!"
"Um, Mona, we need to talk," Max admits before nodding toward the living room. Excitedly, Tony announces, "We'll watch Katherine Anne for you."
Taking the baby from Max, Tony instantly starts playing with her making faces. Still standing by the door, Angela smiles at the pair before spotting the diaper bag on the far counter.
"She is a cutie," Angela has to admit as she watches Tony play with the six month old. She is always in awe of how good her husband is with babies. With a contented sigh, Tony answers, "Yeah."
Smiling, Angela teases, "I think you miss having a baby around."
"Me?" Tony asks his voice going up. Smirking, Angela answers, "You."
Before Tony can say anything else they hear Mona from the other room call Max a numbskull before the couple decide to listen at the door. Just then, Katherine Anne begins to fuss prompting Tony to bounce her just a little. Walking over to her husband, Angela holds out her arms to hold the baby. Just when she gets Katherine Anne in her arms, Angela realizes the baby needs a change. Asking Tony for the diaper bag, Angela is surprised when Tony offers to change the baby. Letting him, Angela decides to listen at the door to see why her mother is no longer yelling. After changing the baby, Tony puts her on a blanket on the floor to go listen as well. Seeing the couple has made up, Tony nods for Angela to head back inside. Scooping the baby up, Angela begins to tell her about Mona and Max getting back together. Grabbing the Champaign as Angela holds the baby, Tony tells her they should eaves drop again.
When Mona tells the couple they can come in the living room, Angela and Tony walk in, Angela carrying the baby and Tony carrying the champagne. Taking the baby from Angela, Mona walks toward the stairs as Angela follows.
"You're sure you're okay with this, Mother?" Angela asks knowing better than her mother how much work a baby is having had one more recently. Nodding, Mona answers, "Absolutely. I can just do what your father and I did with you."
Eyes wide, Angela is shocked at her mother's words which causes Mona to laugh stating, "We waited until you were asleep, Dear."
Waving good bye to Max, Mona, and the baby a few minutes later, Angela watches them drive off happy that her mother is happy. Tony is just excited to have a baby around. Shutting the front door once Max's car is out of eyesight, Tony says to Angela, "You know, Mona looked pretty happy there."
"She did, didn't she? You looked pretty happy too being around that baby."
Shrugging, Tony gives a noncomittal response as Angela answers, "I think you have baby fever, Tony."
"No, I don't," Tony defends adding, "I just think she's cute."
"Uh huh," Angela replies before walking away singing the song Fever with a sway to her hips. Watching his wife as she leaves, Tony is glad there is no one else around. Finally following her into the kitchen, Tony stands in the doorway for a little while before asking, "Hey, Angela? What would you think about having a kid?"
Her back is turned so Tony cannot see her grip the butter knife that is in her hand. This is not a conversation Angela was expecting, but she did egg him on. Truthfully she is scared. Scared that she is too old. Scared that she will not be able to give Tony what he wants. She wants a child, too, but there are too many 'ifs' for her. Trying to keep her voice from cracking, Angela announces, "I don't know, Tony."
"Oh, come on! I saw you holding Katherine Anne earlier," Tony teases walking toward his wife. "You loved it, too. Can't you see it? A little version of you and me?"
Finally turning toward her husband, Angela states softly, "I'm scared."
"About what?"
Breaking down, Angela tells him her fears. Leading Angela to the table, Tony hands her a glass of water as he listens to her talk. Shaking her head, Angela begins to apologize, but Tony stops her.
"You have every right to be scared, Angela. We don't have to have a baby right now. We could wait if you want. I'll respect your wishes," Tony states taking his wife's hand. With a weak smile, Angela thanks him.
Neither mentions their conversation for about a week until Angela announces to Tony one night, "I'm thinking of stopping my birth control."
Surprised, Tony asks, "Are you sure?"
Nodding, Angela admits, "I set up an appointment with my doctor for next week to talk about my options."
The next Wednesday, Tony is in the living room when Angela walks in the door. Stopping the vacuum, Tony asks how her appointment was. Shrugging, Angela says, "Fine. Nothing to worry about."
Nodding, Tony tells her some news of his own.
"I got a letter from my family in Italy. My Uncle Aldo and his family want to come visit."
Shocked, Angela thinks over the matter for only a few minutes before telling Tony how excited she is to meet more of his family.
Around Thanksgiving, Tony's family comes to visit and are adamant that he and Angela get married. Not wanting to tell them they are married, Tony and Angela pretend there is nothing between them and are both surprised when Tony's aunt and uncle decide their son Mauricio will marry Angela. As Angela cleans dishes that night, she looks up when the door opens to find Tony enter the kitchen with a smug look on his face.
"'Well, uh, what are they talking about out there?'" Angela asks avoiding the family as much as she can after the dinner announcement. Smug, Tony tells her, "'They're naming your bambinos. And I hope you like Isadore, Salvatore, and Guido, and Giuseppe, and Aldo Junior.'"
With a heavy sigh, Angela remarks, "'Tony, all I wanted to do was make your family like me! How did this happen?'"
"'Ah, Angela, I've gotta apologize for my family.'"
"'He's just a young boy who finds a chic, sophisticated career woman wildly attractive.'"
Tony watches with his arms folded across his chest as Angela gets excited about the prospect of being found desirable. Staring at his wife as she speaks, Tony remarks, "You are. And thanks for calling me young."
With a laugh, Angela says, "Tony, you know what I mean. It's nice to feel desirable by another man sometimes."
Realizing her husband may take her remark the wrong way, Angela adds, "It's nice to receive compliments from strangers."
"This isn't a compliment Angela. This is a marriage proposal."
Seriously, Angela admits, "I know, Tony. We have to fix this."
Nodding, Tony gives his wife's hand a reassuring squeeze before they head into the living room. Telling his aunt and uncle that Angela does not want to marry Maurizio. Aunt Rosa treats the confession as a joke thinking Angela is playing hard to get. When Angela tells Uncle Aldo that she is not interested in Maurizio, Angela and Tony are left alone as Uncle Aldo breaks the news to Aunt Rosa. Thinking this will give them time to talk and come up with a strategy, Tony and Angela are upset to find Maurizio come in through the front door. Asking what to say to the younger man, Angela is thankful when Tony tells her he will tell Maurizio that the engagement is off. Leaving for her study, Angela hides in there until she is sure the storm blows over. Hearing a knock on her office door, Angela soon hears Tony ask if he can come in. Opening the door, Angela asks, "How did he take it?"
"Like a champ! We're going to see the Rockettes tomorrow night," Tony answers before asking if he can talk to her inside her office. Letting him in, Angela waits for her husband to say something. When Tony stays silent, Angela states, "I think we should have told them we are together."
Shrugging, Tony answers, "We could have, yeah. But sometimes I like the bubble we create with just us and the kids."
"We'll have to break it some day, Tony," Angela gently states.
The day Tony's relatives leave, Jonathan loads the van with Tony's help in hopes of earning a little cash while Sam and Laura finish trading addresses to write to each other every so often. Aunt Rosa refuses to speak to Angela after the failed engagement, but Angela is happy that Maurizio will leave without a broken heart. Mostly, Angela is sad that the whole misunderstanding had to occur in the first place. Coming into the house to make sure all the luggage is outside, Tony is upset that Aunt Rosa will only give Angela a handshake good-bye. When Rosa will not listen to him, Tony whispers something in Uncle Aldo's ear. Angela watches in amazement as Uncle Aldo and then Aunt Rosa's expressions change. When she receives warm hugs good-bye, Angela makes sure to ask Tony as they leave the house, "'What did you say to them?'"
"'That we'd probably get married someday'," Tony states. Tony turns to leave when his wife says, "'Wait. You told them that?'"
"'I had to make peace in the family somehow!'"
Closing the door on his wife, Angela grins hoping that they can have a proper wedding someday. Meeting Tony's family makes her want to do their marriage right instead of keeping it a secret any longer.
