Enjoy!
To the teens' shock, very few rumors circulate about Tony and Angela once the couple openly start dating after the New Year. Happy they are not being teased, Sam and Jonathan are still apprehensive about the possibility of a potential sibling. Jonathan is still convinced the couple is moving too fast while Sam braces herself for a family talk. The family's schedules especially once school starts do not make for a peaceful environment nor a good time for any sort of family talk regardless the topic. After such a crazy few weeks, Tony is happy for things to calm down. He and Angela even get to spend some alone time together when Sam and Jonathan spend the night at friends' homes. Alone, the couple decide to take a walk and talk about their day and plans for later. Entering the house before Tony, Angela is surprised to hear singing coming from the front door. Getting closer, she hears Tony's last name being sung. Opening the door, Angela is surprised to find four men standing there. Calling for Tony, Angela is soon introduced to the men of Tony's high school group Tony and the Dreamtones. When they ask him to get the group back together to save their old high school, Tony immediately says no before announcing to Angela that they have a dinner that night.
"'No we don't'," Angela states at first confused but then just trying to make him help his old friends.
"'Yes, we do'," Tony replies before he and Angela turn their conversation into a little game.
"Are you sure they're not married?'" Tony's friend asks once Tony and Angela go into the kitchen. The friends all look at each other wondering if there is more to the pair then meets the eye.
"Mrs. Rossini says they weren't," One of the other guys says. When Angela and Tony come back in the room, the old friends are ecstatic when Tony agrees to sing with them. They are less than thrilled a day and a half later when Tony announces Angela can be a part of the dream tones. When the group disbands, Tony tells Angela, "'Look, if they don't want you, I don't want them.'"
Still feeling bad, Angela calls up one of the members to see if they will take Tony back in the group and she will not perform. When Tony happily accepts his old position back, Angela watches her husband leave the house and is surprised when her mother tells her once the men leave, "'Nice performance, Angela.'"
Playing dumb, Angela listens to her mother remark, "'You do not have stage fright.'"
"'I made a deal with the guys'," Angela admits before asking her mother not to tell. Mona swears she will not say a words to Tony, but strongly hints to him during the break in his set. Telling the guys he is doing a solo, Tony thinks he will get back at Angela by making her come on stage with him. Putting his jacket around her shoulders, Angela starts to sing with Tony. Seeing how much of a disaster it is, the Dreamtones back them up. They end with thunderous applause that night and Tony gets his high school dream of having his shirt ripped off. Coming up behind him, Angela whispers once all the women leave, "Thank you for letting me sing with you."
"Thank you for getting the group back together."
Wanting to ask how he knows, Angela decided against it and simply states, "You're welcome."
When the family gets home that night, the kids and Mona head off to their bedrooms.
"Night Dad."
"Night Mom."
Each child kisses their respective parent before heading upstairs leaving Tony and Angela alone.
"You really did look good up there," Angela tells her husband. Smiling, Tony asks, "We were pretty good weren't we."
"The hair's not bad either."
Running his hand over his hair, Tony answers, "It's gonna be a pain to wash out though."
Smirking, Angela flirts, "Need any help?"
With a smirk of his own, Tony answers, "I'll take you up on that."
"I can help with that shirt too," Angela adds before loosening his neck tie a little more and leading him upstairs.
The next morning, Tony wakes up to find his wife is not beside him. Groggily, Tony calls Angela's name before making his way to the bathroom. Finding his wife lying on the floor, Tony immediately wakes up. Kneeling down, Tony asks Angela if she is okay. Shaking her head, Angela answers, "I think I'm sick."
Feeling her forehead, Tony answers, "You don't feel warm."
"Yeah, but I'm sick and achy."
Leading his wife back to bed, Tony kisses her forehead before telling her he is going to make her some toast. Now alone in her room and annoyed that she is sick, Angela asks whoever is in the hallway to grab her purse for her. Seeing a confused Sam open the bedroom door, Angela smiles softly at her.
"You got my purse," Angela happily responds as the teen remarks, "Sure, Angela. Are you okay?"
"I think I caught a stomach bug that's been going around. Nothing to worry about."
"That sucks. I hope you feel better," Sam says kissing the woman on the forehead before heading out the door. Heading into the kitchen, Sam sits down at the table and starts to eat as Jonathan asks, "Where's Angela?"
Looking over at the kids, Tony answers, "She's not feeling that great."
"Oh," Jonathan remarks glancing over at Sam who keeps her eyes on her food. Telling the kids to hurry up so they can leave, Tony gives them each a kiss goodbye before putting the dishes in the sink.
"Tell mom I hope she feels better," Jonathan calls out as he and Sam leave for school.
Upstairs in her room, Angela goes over her planner making a note to call the office and have them cancel her meetings. Checking her various appointments, Angela suddenly realizes the date and makes another note and blanches. Deciding she may not be as sick as she thought, Angela washes her face and brushes her teeth before throwing on clothing and sneaking out the front door. Entering the house half an hour later, Angela is immediately met by Tony who is coming down the stairs. With a sigh of relief he says, "I've been looking all over for you! What are you doing out of bed."
"Oh, nothing. Just needed a little fresh air."
Eyeing his wife skeptically, Tony announces, "I'm going to pour you some orange juice. Please try to get some rest."
Nodding, Angela makes her way upstairs to her bathroom before locking the door and taking the pregnancy test she buys out of her jacket pocket. She has a back up test just in case, but decides to hide it under a towel in the bathroom cabinet. When she does look at the test, Angela is shocked. Then she grabs the second test. With a double confirmation, Angela is stunned. At thirty four years old, she is pregnant with her second child. Then, she realizes she needs to find a good way to tell Tony. Nervous the rest of the morning, Angela wracks her brain for the best scenario. Knowing she will not do the same thing she did when she told Michael about Jonathan rules out a nice dinner, but she also dislikes the idea of showing him her pregnancy test. Getting a good idea, at least so she thinks, Angela asks Tony to help her declutter the attic. Whining, Tony asks why they cannot wait for warmer weather.
"Please? There's so much stuff that we obviously don't need anymore," Angela answers as they enter the attic. Reluctantly agreeing, Tony follows his wife as they start decluttering. Any plan Angela has however are dashed when Sam calls her father downstairs. Telling Tony to go downstairs, Angela heads over to where she knows Jonathan's old baby things are. Finding the box she wants, Angela takes it, blows the dust off, and then takes it with her to her room. When Tony goes to find his wife later, he is surprised to find her in the bedroom.
"Whatcha got there?" Tony asks softly taking Angela away from her reminiscing. With a wistful smile, Angela answers, "Just a couple of Jonathan's baby things. I was going to work in the attic but got distracted."
She opens her mouth again to tell Tony about the baby, but stops feeling as if now is still not the right time.
That night as they lie in bed, Tony plays with his wife's hair wondering what their own child would look like. Chuckling, Tony remarks that Jonathan's baby stuff has got him thinking about their future child.
"I mean, we kind of already got started after my family was here, anyway. Why not actually go for it?" He remarks. Angela hums in response answering, "We may not have to."
Propping herself up on her elbow, Angela can see realization dawning in her husband's eyes as she affirms, "Tony, I'm pregnant."
"Pregnant?" Tony practically exclaims excitedly. Quieting him, Angela swears Tony to secrecy in front of the kids just in case. Her past experiences after Jonathan lead her to be wary over saying anything just yet. Having had similar problems with him and Marie, Tony agrees that they will wait to say anything.
The next weekend is a lazy one for the family. At least for everyone but Samantha who heads off to the mall. She comes home later that afternoon to tell her father that she does not want to go to college. Hearing this, Tony persuades Angela and Mona to take Sam to see colleges and change her mind. The whole family makes their way to Mona's old college, Ridgemont, with Mona as tour guide. Trying to make Sam realize how great a place it is, Angela and Mona each give a small speech. After Angela's speech which Sam finds fairly boring, the teenager looks at Mona who asks what she thinks.
"'I'm going'," Tony exclaims from behind the women causing his wife to stand up quickly from the desk seat and exclaim, "'What did you say?'"
Repeating himself, Tony tells the family that he wants to go. On their way out, Tony picks up a brochure to help him get ready for the placement test. Studying for over two weeks, Tony starts to lose confidence in his ability to actually get into college. And then, the next day with an ultrasound scan to confirm Angela's pregnancy, Tony is convinced that the time is not right for him to start college. Deciding not to say anything, Tony asks Angela when they can tell the kids about the baby.
"Not yet. I'd like to find the best way to tell them first," Angela states knowing this will be a major impact on the entire family. Over the next week, the couple sometimes forgets to say anything to anyone until Mona remarks about the size of Angela's chest one day. Drawing her mother away from anyone who can hear, Angela then swears her mother to secrecy about the baby. Too stunned to say anything over the news, Mona nods her agreement. Because of this, Tony is convinced that no one will remember the entrance exam he decides not to take. However, coming home the day of his exam to find Angela in the kitchen, he knows he is caught.
"'You should be taking your test'," She tells him having found his essay on the floor. Reluctantly, Tony answers, "'I decided not to take it.'"
"'What are you talking about? What made you change your mind?'"
Giving his wife an excuse about the household falling apart without him, Tony tries to make her drop the subject. Instead, Angela states, "'Tony, we've already discussed this. You finish your housework in three hours, you have the rest of your day for your classes.'"
Asking if they can stop talking about college, Tony leaves before Angela can say anything more. Looking back at the paper she finds on the floor, Angela follows her husband telling him, "'If you won't listen to me, listen to yourself.'"
Handing over the paper, Angela watches her husband's expression as he realizes she is holding the essay he writes. Walking away with the essay, Angela starts to read it out loud.
"'Come on, Angela, you're embarrassing me'," Tony complains as his wife keeps reading. Samantha comes downstairs just as Angela gets to the second paragraph and stops at the bottom of the stairs listening to her dad's words. Once Angela stops reading, Tony takes the essay from her just as Sam asks, "'Dad, you wrote this?'"
Taking the paper from him, Tony is a little upset that not only does Angela read it, but now his daughter is too. While Sam reads, Angela tells Tony, "'It's a beautiful essay. It's sincere, eloquent, and honest.'"
As Tony asks if his wife really thinks the essay is good, Sam asks, "'Aren't you supposed to be at your test right now?'"
Letting out a noncommittal huff, Tony walks away from the women as Angela explains to Sam that her father is deciding not to go. Upset that her dad will give up on his dream, Sam asks if he made up everything in the essay to try and make him see reason. Calling him a chicken, Sam looks over at Angela who gives her a thumbs up in support. Angela is hopeful at least Samantha will make Tony change his mind. Giving him the same test advice she is given, Sam tells her father that it actually works.
"'Maybe I'm smarter than I thought'," Tony announces. Sitting on the arm of the couch beside Sam, Angela states, "'I think so. But just in case, here's my lucky number two lead pencil.'"
Handing over the item, Angela smiles as Tony takes it and comments on how chewed up it is.
"'You're not the only one who gets scared before a test.'"
After a few more moments, Tony announces he will take the test much to Sam and Angela's delight. Hugging each other as Tony walks out the door, Sam and Angela revel in how proud they are of themselves. Breaking apart, Sam asks, "Is that really your lucky pencil?"
Shrugging, Angela says, "No, I found it in the drawer."
Laughing, Sam remarks, "You're sneakier than I thought."
When Tony comes home, he is immediately greeted by Angela and the kids who ask how the test goes. Shrugging, Tony answers, "The results are mailed out next week."
"Well, I know you did perfectly."
"Yeah, Dad, you aced it!"
A week later, every time the mail comes, Tony looks excitedly for his test results. Then one afternoon, Angela walks in with the mail as Tony comes running into the living room with the kids not far behind him. Handing over the mail, Angela watches her husband's face fall as he searches for his name.
"'Look what I found in my other hand'," Angela teases holding up the results addressed to him. Taking the envelope, Tony announces, "'I can't open it.'"
"'I can!'" Jonathan replies grabbing for the envelope. Trying her best not to laugh at the situation, Angela composes herself before she, Jonathan, and Samantha watch Tony open the letter.
Finding out he fails with a score of 2 instead of the 450 he needs, Tony is just as surprised as Angela as they stare at the paper to see if maybe something is read incorrectly. Taking the letter to the proctoring professor, Mr. Mackey at the college, Angela and Tony both wait for the results with baited breath. When the man tells the pair that Tony fills out the Scantron wrong, they ask if he will regrade the test. Agreeing, Mackey gets out the test and then proceeds to tell Tony and Angela about Harry S Truman visiting. Hanging their heads in frustration, the couple is happy it takes Mackey less than a minute to begin regrading the assignment. Tony and Angela sit watching him for all of ten minutes before Tony starts getting up to pace the floor. Then, Angela starts biting her nails as Tony stands behind the professor as he grades. Looking up at Tony, Mr. Mackey looks at him and Tony immediately goes to sit down. In total it take almost an hour for the professor to grade the test, but then he has to add the score. With each hundred, Tony paces. When Mackey gets to 445, Tony asks if the man can hurry up. Grabbing his arm, Angela tells Tony to calm down.
"'I'm going to have to start all over again'," Mr. Mackey states explaining to Tony that he lost his place. Concerned, Tony asks, "'What?'"
Patting the man's cheek, Mackey tells the couple he is kidding before revealing Tony's score to be 545. Looking at Angela, Tony exclaims a few times, "'545!'"
Angela is just as excited as Tony and just as she jumps out of her chair to officially congratulate him, she is surprised to see her husband leap onto the desk and kiss the professor.
"'You did it!'" Angela exclaims when Tony is in front of her once more. Smiling at his wife, Tony answers, "'We did it!'"
Then he asks her to have a drink at the campus bar to which Angela happily obliges. Leaving the professor's office, Angela asks, "Do you think we should tell everyone about your test score?"
Grinning, Tony answers, "Yeah. I think I got a dime here."
Finding a pay phone the couple deposits what is definitely more than a dime into the machine and calls the house. When Mona picks up, the couple tell her about Tony's grade adding that they will be back later that afternoon.
"You know I can't actually drink though, right?" Angela remarks as they walk toward the bar. Nodding, Tony answers, "I know, but there's no one else I'd rather celebrate with."
After a couple celebratory drinks, Tony and Angela head home as Tony continues to remark how much he enjoys college based on the various buildings since he has not officially started classes yet. Enjoying her husband's exuberance, Angela is excited when her mother comes in and congratulates Tony on his score before joking with him that he needs to start studying. Just then, Jonathan and Samantha walk into the room. Telling the kids about Tony's test score, the teens congratulate him. Wringing her hands, Angela states, "That's not the only news."
Glancing over at his wife and raising his eyebrows Tony asks, "Here? Now?"
Nodding, Angela motions to the couch and lets Mona, Sam, and Jonathan sit down before taking a spot on the arm of the chair Tony occupies. After a moment, Angela nervously announces, "Your dad- Tony- and I have an announcement to make."
Placing her hand over Tony's, Angela looks at him before beginning to speak again. To her surprise, Jonathan speaks instead.
"This is about a baby isn't it?" He asks explaining once he sees the adults' shocked expression, "I heard you and Mom talking about wanting a baby when you were babysitting Katherine Anne."
"Are you pregnant?" Sam asks excitedly happy for the couple. Nodding, Angela answers with a large smile, "A little over twelve weeks."
Soon, two sonograms are passed around for everyone to look at.
"Congratulations you two. Just remember, I'm not a babysitter," Mona announces before kissing her daughter and leaving the living room explaining that she has a date.
"Can I tell Bonnie?" Sam asks excitedly. Granting their permission, Tony and Angela watch Sam head to the kitchen. Giving the adults a half-hearted congratulations, Jonathan makes his way to the stairs but stops. Walking back to his mom and Tony, Jonathan asks, "You're not trying to replace us, right? Me and Sam?"
"No, Sweetheart. Why would you think that?" Angela questions before asking, "Does this have anything to do with Christmas break?"
Eyes wide, Jonathan asks how she figures it out. Teasing, Tony answers, "She's your mom, Jonathan. She knows everything."
With a small laugh, Angela seriously asks her son, "What's wrong?"
Jonathan is quiet for a moment until he reluctantly admits, "Dad and Heather are having a baby."
Eyes wide, the couple is not prepared for this news. Finding out Angela's ex is having another child is a moment they never really saw as parents, but Tony and Angela simply try to reassure Jonathan that he is still part of the family. Nodding, Jonathan thanks the couple for reassuring him, but he still sulks upstairs to his room.
"I can't believe Michael made him feel this way," Tony rants upset that the boy he thinks of as a son has such low self esteem from one visit to California.
"It's not that uncommon for children to feel upset when their parents have another child, Tony," Angela reasons. Her hand resting on her lower stomach, she tells her husband, "We never should have let him go see Michael."
"You said yourself we can't keep Jonathan from seeing him," Tony remarks. Shaking her head, Angela answers, "I know. You're right. I just hate picking up the pieces. I just wish we'd done it sooner."
"We didn't really know sooner, Ange. Besides, it's not like these kids tell us stuff anymore."
The only response Angela gives is a heavy sigh before telling Tony that she is going to talk to Jonathan.
"How'd he take it?" Tony asks when Angela enters the kitchen. Shrugging, Angela answers, "I'm not sure. He didn't really say much."
"How are you taking it?" He asks. With a heavy sigh, Angela answers, "Fine. Michael always wanted more kids, and I'm sure Heather will give him exactly what he always wanted."
The couple is quiet for a moment before Tony embraces Angela. Safe in her husband's embrace, Angela lets herself cry.
