Mirabel was 12 when the Madrigal family forgot her birthday.

She doesn't want to blame them. She doesn't. There had been a huge accident in the mining area and the whole family had ended up going to help except her. She had to stay with an almost 2 year old Antonio.

Someone had to and she would be less helpful than the others in the end because of her lack of gift.

She doesn't blame them.

But, some did.

Mirabel couldn't help but blink in confusion as several of the Madrigals of 2008 were trying to go back in time to give Abuela and the Madrigals of 1947 a piece of their minds.

"She's 12!" Tia Alina glared at her husband, the adult Antonio, as he, Abuela Mirabel, Tia Luisa, Tio Edgar, Tia Dolores, Tio Mariano, Reyes, and Ed blocked the door, "How do you forget a birthday party."

It was weird to her to see the crowd of people trying to get to the door to give her family a scolding. Her family didn't do "wrong" things, they didn't make mistakes, they were the perfect Madrigals after all.

"Reyes Luis Leon Madrigal get out of my way so I can go strangle your Abuela," David glared at his husband.

Reyes raised his eyebrow confused at that, "My Abuela Alma or my Abuela Julieta?"

"I'll decide on the way," David narrowed his eyes.

"I vote both," Ernesto and Estela, the twin children of Camilo, answered together as they gave each other a high five.

Mirabel was very concerned that these people are the adults in her life.

"Okay, we're going now," Maximiano came into the room with Marina and Diana following him with arms full of jackets.

"But I want to stay and watch to see who wins!" Gaspar protested as his cousins shoved him into a jacket.

"Too bad," Ana protested as she pulled on her scarf, "Is Pa trying to go through Tio Ed's legs?"

"Tia Maria just sat on him so it doesn't matter," Gilberto watched in mild amusement as he put on his jacket with no fuss unlike his twin.

Mirabel just shook her head as Cas wrapped a scarf around her neck. She raised an eyebrow, it was yellow and had a badger on it, "Huh?"

"That's part 1 of your present," Cas smiled as she pointed at the badger, "It's from a book series we're picking up in town cause the box set came in today. It's called Harry Potter and you're totally a Hufflepuff."

Cas picked up baby Antonio as Emelina opened the door and the other older kids ushered them out, "Cause you're hardworking, loyal, kind, patient…"

"Please stop being a nerd," Maximinao complained as he glanced again as the suppose "adults" in their family continued to fight.

"Please we must preserve the timeline!" Abuela Mirabel argued for peace.

"You literally taught yourself to sow! The timeline is broken!"

Mirabel met a young girl that day as they were in town shopping.

Diana and Christina were with her. Cas had taken Antonio and Jaime with her to pick up the books she had bought for her.

The girl was nice and Mirabel honestly wouldn't have thought much of her later but she learned she was already appertincing under Tomas Madrigal, Dolores' son in law. Her name was Gabriela Rivera and in the coming years Mira would be seeing a lot of her.

…..

When Mirabel got back to Casita with all the younger Madrigal kids carrying gifts for her. Mirabel had protested about the gifts but everyone cut her off and said it was for their "cousin" and to enjoy it.

Even little Antonio had picked out a little jaguar plush to give her. Mira cried a little at that.

When they opened the door all the adults yelled "Surprise!"

Mirabel's eyes went wide as she took in the decorated Casita that was dancing around her. All the adults were smiling and speaking at once saying they had more presents, and cake and food and games.

The banner hanging above read "HAPPY BIRTHDAY MIRA!"

That's when the tears started to fall from Mira's face.

…..

The next day in 1947 the adults noticed the leftovers in the kitchen. They were the most confused at the giant cake.

"It's from my birthday dinner," Mirabel explained as she was reading the first Harry Potter book at the kitchen table as she passively watched Antonio draw.

Julieta and Agustin froze up as Pepa thundered and Felix looked aghast.

"It was pretty good though," the 12 year old explained off handley as she flipped the page paying them little attention, "Me and Antonio loved it."

The adults didn't pry more. Didn't want to know how much damage was done to the girl. They and the rest of the family managed to give Mirabel her gifts later on in the next few days. But, honestly deep deep down Mirabel never forgave them.

Mirabel and Casandra had their first big fight six months after her birthday.

They had been best friends for six years and they were kids and they fought over stupid kids things. Who was in charge, who got the green candy, who was "it" first, which animal was the best one, etc.

But today was the day Mirabel snapped at Cas. Because that was the day that Mira learned Cas knew where Tio Bruno was.

"What do you mean you've been visiting Tio Bruno without telling me?" Mirabel glared at her best friend.

"I mean I have been visiting him since I was 10," Cas explained like she was surprised she cared.

"How could you not tell me?!" Mirabel replied balling her fists up.

"Abuela told me not to! You're too young, you can't know where he is yet!" Cas tried to explain.

"That excuse is getting old," Mirabel shouted back, "and this is different!"

"How is this different?"

"Cause I can't remember Tio Bruno!"

Silence filled Cas' room.

"Mira…"

"I can't remember my uncle," Mira said with tears starting to fill her eyes, "I know he was my favorite uncle at one point, I know that I must have loved him a lot cause of all the drawings I have of him, but I can't remember him. I remember that he has a ruana that looks like yours. But I don't remember him."

An incredible guilty look appeared on Casandra's face, "Mira….I….."

Mirabel didn't wait on the rest as she turned on her heels and left the room without another word.

Mirabel had worried that she had ruined her friendship with Cas.

It had already been two weeks since the fight and she was starting to worry Cas was never coming back. Cas had started visiting every 4 days or so since Mirabel turned 8.

Mirabel was starting to think she was just going to run every family member away from her eventually.

But on the 15th day Cas was sitting in the nursery holding a picture in her hand.

Before Mirabel could even apologize Casandra started, "I made it a rule when everyone found out about my time travel gift to not take them to see dead family members. I decided that because after my father died I went to see him. I figured maybe I could save his life or at least see him. It didn't work, Papa still was dead in my time. It made the pain almost worse in a way. I worried the rest of the family would be the same so no seeing dead members."

Mirabel was sad to hear about her son Pedro again. She still didn't know the full story but Abuela Mirabel seemed very sad about it.

"I'm sorry. I guess I thought about the Bruno thing the same way. I only started seeing him cause you, Abuela you, asked me to," Cas continued, "He honestly needed the company and I'm sorry. If I wasn't worried about messing up your future I would tell you about where he was. But everything is very delicate."

Mirabel nodded, "I'm sorry for snapping. I do understand. I just….I miss him…. I want him in my life again…"

Cas gave her a soft smile and handed her the picture she was holding, "He will be eventually."

The 12 year old took the picture and looked at it. It was an old picture. With a slightly younger version of Abuela Mirabel, or is it an older version of young Mirabel?, with an old man with gray hair in a ponytail and beard with a green ruana on, with a blue blanket bundling a baby between them.

"Tio?" she flipped it over and read the back.

Mirabel would find the adorable and heart warming but at the moment all she could scream was, "You're named after ISABELA?!"

Alright! Life is kicking my ass lately. Anyway, I'm working on actually finishing the original one shot that inspired the entire time traveling works so this will be on the back burner till thats done.

Next chapter of this will be something though. Mirabel will have to deal with puberty nonsense not to mention, Mateo coming into her and Cas' life and Cas starts dating Gabriela what will Mira think of that?
