Cas' quinceañera was a huge party. Like huge.

Mirabel was so pleased that Cas had asked her to be in court. She cried a little. Mirabel had not been asked to be in her sisters' or Dolores'.

Cas' escort ended up being Maximiano but he had actually been very nice about it and her shoes had been changed by her brothers and her first dance had been split between her Tios Reyes and David before the rest of her family past her around before she was finally allowed to dance with her girlfriend.

Later that night after everyone went to bed Cas and Mirabel were on the roof again and Cas finally started crying.

"I wish my Papa was here."

That was when Mirabel started wondering what kind of man her son, Pedro, was.

….

"I don't understand this is label episode 1," Mirabel held up the box labeled Star Wars Episode 1.

"Yeah, but the man at the store told me and Ana to start with episode 4," Cas replied as she held up the box labeled episode 4, "He told 4, 5, and 6. Then 1, 2, and 3."

"That makes no sense," Mirabel complained.

Meanwhile, Maximiano and most of the family were sitting annoyed as they argued.

"Good ole family movie night," Maximiano complained as he ate popcorn.

….

"It's over, Mirabel! I have the high ground!" Cas dramatically called down to Mira as she stood on Casita's roof holding her broom like a sword.

"You underestimate my power!" Mirabel replied as she gripped her broom and tapped her foot down asking Casita to launch her onto the roof.

Casita did throws it's tiles up allowed Mirabel to land on the roof.

Mira and Cas laughed as they continued their "sword fight" on the roof making noises with their mouths and being overly dramatic and laughing.

"MIRABEL!"

They paused and glanced to see an upset Julieta looking up at them, "Get off the roof now!"

Mira and Cas shared a look and jumped off the opposite of Julieta running from the grounding she probably had in mind.

….

"What kind of animal is this?" Mirabel asked confused holding up the newest pokemon game she just started.

Cas and Gabriela were laying on the couch as Gabriela was sowing, so Cas tilted her head and looked, "Oh. A penguin? It lives way up north. It's like bird."

"I love it," Mirabel said looking at it, "It's so cute."

"Maybe we can go to a zoo with Ana," Cas smiled while glancing at the game, "Please don't throw the DS if you get stuck on a gym."

"I will make no such promises."

….

Mirabel had been to weddings before. This was the first family wedding though.

Maximiano was marrying her longtime girlfriend, Rosa Sandoval. Well Mirabel supposed it was Rosa Madrigal now.

As she smiled in the audience as they married, a thought hit Mirabel as she imagined herself in the wedding dress.

She wondered what her husband was like.

….

Mirabel had to be careful, Cas always got very upset when you asked her about Abuelo or Papa. So, she had to wait till Mirabel was alone with Abuela Mirabel.

The moment came when Cas decided to go pick up Gabriela from work as she was having dinner with the Madrigals.

Mirabel had been left with her older self as she was making dinner with her.

The 14 year old steeled herself as asked honestly, "What were they like? Our husband and son?"

There was a pause in Mirabel's stirring of the soup pot, "Alonso and Pedro?"

"Yeah. I hear so offhand remarks about Alonso," Mirabel continued in a soft voice, "Especially from Ed. He seemed close to him. But not a lot of people want to talk about Pedro."

Abuela Mirabel was quiet for a moment before pulling a picture from her pocket, "I carry this with me everyday." She handed the picture to her younger self.

Mira took it and looked at the picture of a young teenage boy with Mirabel's eyes, an older Mirabel probably in her 30's, and a man Mirabel's age.

"Alonso was a good man. I actually met him because of Tio Bruno," Abuela Mirabel smiled fondly, "Tio Bruno had dragged me to the edge of town with no explanation. I was so confused till a man covered in mud fell out of the jungle. That man was Alonso Vega. Turns out Tio had a version earlier that day about him and had seen our wedding."

Mirabel just stood listening.

"He was a goofy man, very awkward. But also smart, he was a historian that had been researching and interviewing nearby villages about the Thousands day war," Abuela Mirabel explained, "He ended up sticking around to teach but we all knew it was for me. He was just as head over heels as me."

"We both knew he would make a great dad," Abuela Mirabel sighed looking at the soup, "We both wanted at least three kids."

That made Mirabel confused, "But you only had one."

"Not for lack of trying," Abuela Mirabel got somber at that, "I keep getting sick and losing the babies. Me and Alonso had given up by the time I got pregnant with Pedro. But eventually, he came and I loved him so much. Everyone did. I was so sweet and understanding."

Mirabel looked down at the picture again, "So, no one talks about him because it hurts too much?"

There was a look on Abuela Mirabel face. As if she was fighting with herself.

"We don't talk about him cause it hurts yes. But also because we're angry at him and ourselves."

She wanted to ask what she meant but the door opened and Cas and Gabriela walked end and the conversation was officially over.

….

Mirabel got her answers from Marina and Emelina a month later.

Pedro Madrigal, her son, had killed himself.

Mirabel now had a new understanding to the grief, regret, and angry that Abuela Mirabel and Cas always seemed to have.

….

"What? Is that Tio Mariano?" Cas pointed confused at Mariano flirting with Isabela.

"Yeah, I've been meaning to ask about that," Mirabel looked very confused at them, "I'm not crazy he married Dolores and had kids with her right?"

"Yeah, that is so weird," Cas commented looking over at the two, "I guess this is before Tia Dolores confessed."

They continued to watch before Mirabel said, "This is too weird. Let's go."

"Agreed."

…..

"You're doing what?!"

"Making a play about how you learn you were the next candleholder," Cas explained as she held up her script, "I'm playing you."

Mirabel reached for the script but Cas held it away from her, "No!"

"Give it!"

"Spoilers no!"

Mirabel used her puppy dog eyes as she pouted at her future granddaughter.

"Look your going to see the play," Cas promised, "I'll even play you a few of the songs!"

"It's a musical?!" Mirabel stared at her in disbelief.

"Yeah! Let me tell sing you the little hook we have for one of the songs," Cas smiled as she took a deep breath, "We don't talk about Bruno-no-no-no. We don't talk about Bruno!"

Mirabel just stared at that, "That is catching as all hell but I am concerned why you're making a song about my missing Tio."

Author's Note

I also think I've run out of Encanto Fanficiton I want to read. Sad day. Bright side? it did take six months to reach that point.

Final Chapter next time.

Thanks for reading and please review.
