Normal's lost Vincent. If so, then why are we still here, if that was ever possible. Sometimes, Catherine wondered what her life would have been if she and Vincent had managed to run away and from everything.
Or badly, she even accused Vincent of being able to cause a murder when it wasn't it his own fault and especially blaming him for losing all the possibility of having a normal life. When it wasn't, at the very first place and yet people made him believe that it was. Cat could still feel that scar through her abdomen and the way things had been when life had slowly tried to slip away from her own. She was much as bad even by taking risking decisions for keeping her hubsband safe. She should have felt bad when she had accused Vincent of losing everything precious when it came to normal. To have a normal life. They could have had run but they didn't and especially after she had been shot in the first place.
Almost fatality. She nodded back at that thought and ran a hand through her hair.
And the way that Agent Dylan dropped the case after she had been faced with the facts and especially when emotional feelings had been involved when she shouldn't have had. Turns, it was a good thing that she managed to listen up to the Prince. The very last person who had been involved with the hitman and Braxton's secrecy until he had confessed as Vincent has stated before. If the truth needed to come out, than so be it. But with another life on line, it was complicated to hide on differences. Oh God, she even accused Vincent of him on being the very first person to lose all sense of being human when it wasn't. It wasn't his fault and yet, she had the nerve to accuse him of losing everything they've held on dear. When she should be on accusing herself for lying onto others when he hadn't been through the first place. Covering up for all the beasts killings from before.
And there she was, practicing the job she had thought wouldn't have had never kept on getting back after the Braxton's fiasco and with her being pregnant. And for real this time.
"A penny for your thoughts, partner?" Max Parsons's deep voice had awakened her up from her thoughts. When he had approached himself back with two coffees and two sandwiches onto a tray with a smugging smile. Detective Max Parsons came up from New Mexico region and had been a cop from his entire life as he was adjusting through his new Manathan life and crazier even. She had warned him up before he could run away from here that she could be pretty handful up to new rookies, but the guy wasn't any new kid here. But Max had been decided to reclaim his treat by staying up to be here and was willed to fight up for his new female partner to be safe from exposure. Cat wondered if he had known about beasts, but Max didn't highly specified about it. He looked natural and the very same natural thing she had been struggling to get and to keep up. The mano guilty until proven innocent thing, he'd first believed into and then later he'll be the one to judge up. But today looked like any other day. With her wearing up a long bloose and with dark pants as she normaly used to and decided to let her hair grow back. Which was the way she glowed up, lately from what Vincent had stated her back onto every morning and after she told him that she might be expecting on having a baby.
"Woah, you're the best partner ever, Max.." Cat shook up her head and took the coffee from the tray as Max gave her sandwich as he sat down onto the chair where a rounding table separated them. She unwrapped up the sandwich and that she would have gone crazy when she inhaled up the warming scent through the food. "It does look delicious, come over here you.." She groaned back and took up a huge bite which made Max almost burst out a great laugh when he watched her eat.
"If I had known that the Special Crimes Unit been worse, I would have chosen another unit-"Max tried to admit off when Cat tried to wave things off by pointing the sandwich. That he shouldn't even worry.
"No. It's not you, don't worry..I've meant the sandwich..Salami, peperroni and cheese are a great match." Cat talked back up with her mouth full until she swallowed back and cleared up her throat."I've just been lost onto my mind, lately it's been hard from a year ago.." A lot that both Vincent and herself weren't able to push back and even if things were getting better for them now with Vincent being a doctor and her; being a cop after she had refused to go back at the DHS departement and betrayal that both of them had to go through with, but hate was a big word.
"For you and your husband, with the whole murder turned into self defense thing, right?" Max had followed back as Cat lifted up her eyes to meet her partner's. Completely distraught."Yeah, I've remembered reading it on newspapers..It must have been hard, no?" Somewhere where New Mexico wasn't always about breeding up horses and working up there at ranches. They always had their share on homicides and murders and since Max had worked up for the sheriff, nothing did impressed him. However, Cat tried to follow up after she made sure that no one over here was listening to them here at the IL Cantuccio cafe.
"Close." She tried to keep it up for an simple answer. A short answer. She shouldn't even be here today and to be sharing up with an pastrami sandwich and a decaffeined coffee with her new partner, who had been new from the time she and Vincent had finally and been declared exonorated for real this time. However, the guilt felt still real through her gut. And yet, her husband didn't accused her back even and probably because she had been right from the start when she wasn't wasn't. Sometimes, Cat wondered how come Vincent had been brave to stand up to her whining and her lies, if he hadn't. Then she wouldn't have had the slightliest clue of it.
"Don't worry. I'm not gonna say any word about it and coming up from your husband's past. I won't say any word that would put you both in any danger." Max had declared back which took her by surprise.
"Max. You don't have to make any promises-" And hopefully won't put any guilt or pity onto his shoulders. Even if Max looked serious enough and less of a fanboy, he wasn't just backing off easily. He looked to be the kind of guy who you could tell him a secret and that you could trust him as he would that he would keep his mouth shut.
"I'm not and trust me when I say; I'm not gonna say anything that might put you into trouble which it wasn't your fault or your husband's."Max had been nothing but supportive ever since he had been her new partner after Ashton had been transfered away onto another departement and a certain Max Parsons had walked up into Tess's office and right after Cat had received up her badge back after she had been cleared away from breaking up with the law and by trying to break away from town when she and Vincent tried to run away from town after an sudden explosion and after she had been shot by one of Braxton's aliees. If it had been his. And a couple months later and after she had been all healed up from her gunshot wound, she had meet up with her new partner after she and her husband had been cleared from all charges. And Vincent's lawyer, attorney Chadewick Rafferty made sure of it and keep all DHS's threats away.
Max Parsons had been coming up from New Mexico and been chosed up to her new partner when he walked into the captain's office. The man was into his earlier thirties and probably two years younger than her. He had brown longish hair with brown eyes with a small and early stubble coming up to his jaw. He looked strong enough and lean even quite almost normal to her taste. He wore a simple blue t-shirt with a black coat and dark pants when he had walked inside the office and Tess had introduced himself for a start. He did looked nervous to be standing out here.
"Cat, meet your new partner. Max Parsons. He just came out from New Mexico. Well transfired from New Mexico-"Tess tried to present the guy coming up through the door.
"Let's just say that I wanted to start a new fresh start and away from breeding horses and domestic violence." Max had declared back with a smug smile when Cat stood up from her seat when he handled up his hand towards her for a shake."I'm detective Max Parsons. Used to work for the sheriff back at New Mexico and decided to move away to make my own penny later."
"Parsons, right?" Cat wondered up when she took his hand for the greeting handshake. He shrugged off his shoulders for a lame excuse.
"Call me Max. Not for a dog but as a colleague and hopefully for a friend thingy. And trust me, I wouldn't cause you any trouble, partner." He meant that when he shook up her hand for a joke. She snickered back with a honest smile.
"As long you can call me Cat. It should be fine. I can be a little handfull but I'm still good. Clean, I mean." She called back up and had known that he and she would get get along just fine. Max looked like he was a person she could trust and coming on through his eyes she had felt that she wasn't stepping on any random bad guy Max looked like he had carried many burden onto his shoulders just like Vincent had been. But what burden?
And there she was, working with her husband on her new normal life and with herself being pregnant, Cat needed to be more careful than ever and especially after a year after the events after the Braxton and the hired hitmen later on. She had her life back onto track as much when Vincent tried to pay pack up the lost time he had counted on others. Paid back the others when he could as a doctor but not as a terrorist or as a beast. They worked hard enough to get their life back and one day she had exploded on him stating that it was his entire fault.
But any human needed to explode just like she had exploded back at her wedding shower when Heather had worked up so hard and tried to keep it up normal as she could and later at the same getway, she had exploded right in front of Vincent, when he tried to go through Graydall's private and security and in order to stop the mess behind Hill's murder and make him exonorate himself from this mess. Which had worked out perfectly and even if Heather had broke up with Kyle. Cat had felt it coming up and just to watch up from her hospital bed and where Vincent had clutchered up onto her with sobs and sworn that he wouldn't go away from her and anywhere from her side, this time. Heather had later on broke up with Kyle. Cat sighed back up looked at the window feeling bad for her sister who had told her that she was just as sorry and should've had listened to both her and Vincent when theirs lives had been in jeapody with the threat of trying to catch up Vincent and to kill him. But, Goddamn it. Vincent was right. Running away wasn't an option, cause it didn't mattered if they managed to fake their death or not, smart people would be able to notice them running away from town. Take that murderer Luka Magnotta who killed and chopped his boyfriend for an example. That psycho had been had found up into Berlin under an fake identity or if it wasn't. That guy had been caught up by the authorities and europeans authorities before he was dragged back out to Canada for murder.
All thanks to a certain Braxton whom this time hadn't gone up away until J.T. and Tess had arrested and shot him from running away and dragged them up to the emergency room when they've discovered she had been shot and badly enpough to keep her locked up onto a bed for nearly a month and especially when she had threatened an Homeland Security Agent for letting her emotions going through the way of her mission when she should have been looking for the real bad guy and not Vincent. And she had meant every word when she threatened Olivia back then and expecially when she clutchered up Vincent's hand hard enough so he wouldn't disappear this time. Maybe because of love. And the love she cared for him despite the faults she had for.
"Partner?" Cat blinked up her eyes and turned back her attention to Max as he waited up for answer.
"I told you to call me Cat. Max!" She objected up back as he waved off her answer and followed up.
"So when's the exam?" Max had tried to come along with the possible causes when it came to a woman's pregnancy. He must have had noticed the uncalled moodswings she had been experienced when she and Max had started to work along. At first thought, Cat had thought it was just stress or probably the fear iof an certain hitman would come out to her appartement to shoot her again and worse even, shooting Vincent in cold blood. However, when she had discovered that she had been late with her period, it was the biggest relief that she could ever ask for. That she had gotten pregnant was the least of her worries here. She had been happy and even Vincent was happy and estatic even at the news. When he should be scared, but for a good thing, he wasn't this time.
"In two days from now. That's all I could found out for an appointement. It's still early, but I wanted to be sure." Cat admitted back and ate the rest of her sandwich but the brown haired guy followed up again as he started to unwrap up his own sandwich."I want to be sure that I'm one hundred percent pregnant than a test could tell me although."
"Does the guy knows?" Max took a big bite of his sandwich and munched.
"You mean, Vincent?" Cat had followed up back when Max nodded back."He sure does. He was happy about it but also scared." Vincent didn't seemed to be, but Cat had known that he was after she and himself had been too busy into lovemaking. Which made him shiver at the very next morning as he had held her close to him. That even if he had been happy with the news of her being pregnant, Vincent was also scared of the next events that would come by when she would start on showning up more, physically.
"It's always the first time that scares the guys. A start to become more responsible of an natural human being." Max had explained back and took up a sip from his strong coffee.
"But not as women? You mean?" Cat defied him. Damn right. She was scared. She had never cared a baby onto full term and especially if she was carrying on a baby beast onto term.
"Nothing bad to say about it. I'm all about women's choices and desicions true. Even if it's scary for a guy to think how much pressure it takes for a woman to produce and carry a innocent life to the earth." Max followed up as he took a bite of his sandwich.
"An screwed up earth, you should say.." Cat had clearified back.
"I know that." Max had stated back confident with his word. Unlike Ashton's happy and on going behavior, Max seemed to be secretive but also very kind and nice. Cat even wondered if he was still single or not. Cause any girl would probably fall for him. A handsome and kind man like him.
However, Cat felt like he held something from her. Maybe a long lost secret like Vincent had before he had meet her and fell for her. A perfect man like Vincent or Max wasn't left unknown for citizians. She wondered if it was the same for Max when he tried to look away from her to the window.
"At least, you do not treat your husband like a science object. You look deep inside of him before you can conclude your decision and you love him for that. For who he is and not for what he has.." And from the tone of his voice, Cat figured out like he had been hurt from before.
"I love Vincent for who he is and I would do anything to keep him safe, for as long as I should live." It was a vow that hadn't never left ever since she told Vincent that she was willing to protect him, no matter whatever happens even if whatever situation is hard, they'll be able to face it by being together. Like they always had done.
"I hope you still do and I'm glad you still do. Cause I have to admit this guy is very lucky to have a strong woman like you by his side." What was he trying to say? He was talking like he had experienced the meaning of his words from before which it made Cat wondering.
"Max, is something wrong?"
"No. Why you ask?" He cleared up his voice and pushed himself up to his chair.
"It looks like you're hiding something here and I'm not saying this because of female instinct but I can see it from your eyes. Like you've been hurt from before." Cat admitted back when she felt his eyes lifted up to meet hers and they looked worried as if he was worried to be judged at."Max?"
"Well.." He took a deep breath and inhaled deep before he looked back over her."It's nothing important, though. But sometimes you can't always expect things to go the way you want and I think that it happens sometimes whenever my girlfriend is taking care of things."
"Your girlfriend?"
"Liz is a brilliant biochimist researcher. We've meet as kids and later fell for each other as we grow older and went to each different ways after her sister died. Years had passed and we've found each other again, only I had no idea how different we became. I became a cop and she became a biochimist researcher, even she asked me to run away from there to come up here or to California." It sounded perfectely normal, then why the long face? Cat wondered back with confusion.
"Which it didn't sounded like a good idea to you-"
"It was. In fact. It was a better place to run away and from everything that had haunted her for years." He sighed back as he ran his fingers through his brown locks of hair away from his eyes. "Liz had often said that California's states or New York's had better immigration rules than over there in New Mexico. Liz is the daughter of undocumented immigrant parents, you know?"
"No. I haven't." Cat had shook her head back. She hadn't no clue whatever mess Max's girlfriend had been involved from before, but she could tell how immigration had been hard to handle lately. Especially when she had been involved with a cases where it involved two immigrant girls hiding away to whom Vincent had agreed to come up and to help out when one of them had been sick.
"Things were slowly starting to get better and mostly for her dad until we had this fight. It's hard to say but just have seen all chemicals and lighting stuff over there it made me so enraged. So much that I've destroyed every evidence. And everything about my life and the way it had been for me for so many years. I felt like I had been used for a science project." Max admitted back as he drank some of his coffee under Cat's concerned stare."I felt so humiliated and used up when I've seen all these things over there with these machines and chemicals that a scientist could describe. Organs to be evaluated all this stuff made me feel so disgusted. That's what made me feel used and betrayed. Almost like an object when it came to her. We've broken up after that fight and I decided to leave away from there." Something through his speech left Cat to wonder something that she couldn't help but to not know if he had been thinking the very same thing as the time when she wanted to turn Vincent's story to a case, before..But there was something that Max wasn't saying..
"You felt betrayed.." And heartbroken, Cat had almost added up when he nodded up back to her answer."And there you are, today.." She added up by taking her coffee and swallow up a big sip as she watched him nod.
"I know."
"But what about Liz? Are you still with her?" If that girl still loved him, it must be or so.
"We've decided to take our relationship, a second chance although. We've managed to keep things lightly. With me doing my job at the precinct when she is still struggling to find herself a job." Well nothing had been lost yet. They still managed to comeback together but the road on.
"And her parents?"
"Her dad got a better place right here and seems to work out better than he had from before. Got a better position here as a NYC citizien and where nobody can think he looks illegal or not. Things got better for him with a better lawyer by his side to sign off the papers he needs to declare. However, for her mother she decided to stay away from town as a fugitive." Max admitted back."However, things between Liz and I are still going slowly under control. Just like you and your husband have done."
"It wasn't easy with all the procedure to make out of it even if the lawyer looked sympathic and honest when he came over at the hospital and proposed Vincent his help. And besides, Vincent still feels guilty of killing a man, who was a husband and a father and even if it was in self-defense-"
"Which it was, Cat.. It was by self-defense." Max had declared back. But Cat felt horrible when she described that the late deputy secratary agent had a family to protect even.
"And still. He had a wife and a young daughter-"
"Does it make it even better?" Max had cut her off in frustration when she was about to defend Hill's once and unfair intentions. Cat was startled by her new partner's reaction. "That guy could have had killed your husband in cold blood and for a crime he didn't or wasn't suspected, and you would have had let him walk away with blood on his hands? Hell no." Max had almost slapped up his fist onto the table with anger.
"But what had been worse, it was that I had accused Vincent for the faults he had made before. That we've both had made in order to safe ours lives and from making him exposed." Cat had admitted which she still felt bad, but advised Vincent that she was also afraid of how things would have had turned out if they kept going through and against the law. They thought they've had lost everything. Well, she had thought and blamed him for this matter when she shouldn't have had.
"From the military experience that had gone wrong? And that nobody had stated?" Cat nodded back to Max's question and not only it went wrong for the first time. Because someone else had also tried to do the very same thing, thirty years ago. Not only Murfield had tried but thirty years ago, an similiar company had tried to successed the very same thing which went also wrong accordding to Chadewick's research when he had presented the other files he went through and reasearched his homework before he decided to represent Vincent. Not only, he was the one to have had run away from getting killed but other soldiers, five men and a woman had also ran away from their makings when the serum they've had received and changed up theirs DNA had decided to go and take their makings people onto court and while they've been under witness protection through Homeland Security Departement, the six of them were both found dead and just a few days later and just after they've been into protection and into hiding. It was 'an long lost evidence' and 'locked' into the Homeland Security Departement. But not lost, it was kept away as a dark secret until things with Vincent and Cat had awakened things up again with Murfield. No wonder the lates Agent Thomas and Bennett were interested into Vincent before. Because they had known..Must have had after they went through old files from thirty years ago.
Hypocrits. They had known. Or if they had, any agent would have known what Vincent Keller had been capable for so long anyways. So, maybe those videotapes weren't visualized as Cat thought. Agent Dylan would have done or else they would have known that Vincent was a beast, but they didn't. No. They didn't! Someone must have had taken these videotapes away! But who?
So if Vincent had been right to feel threatened from the NYPD or from any other departement, he had been right from the start. Catherine had understood the situation a bit better when Vincent and with Chadwick who had been wearing a dark white and black suit had shown her up the pictures from the other victims whom had been killed over thirty years ago and under their goverment. Chadwick presented himself as he walked into her hospital room where she still laid onto her bed as Vincent and the lawyer had walked in and let Chadwick explain himself that he was willing to defend them and mostly Vincent and because he wanted to warn DHS to back away or else the past would come out and haunt them for good. Because of a mistake they've let running away from theirs fingers. Thirty years ago when six people were killed because they were beasts and because nobody was willing to fight to defend them as Chadwick had stated with a frown. Because they were too dangerous and beastly dangerous, to take care of from any harm. Even a few rumors had said that there was agents from DHS that had been told to kill them, and without any hesitation. It was out of question of ever being able to trust DHS ever again and even if they desparately wanted Cat to join them back, for her it was an completely no. Big no.
However, all this mess was over after Chadwick made the charges drop. A simple and private court had been held and the judge had been just in shock when he ended up seeing the bloody and hiding pictures from the six victims. He ordered to drop off the charges against Vincent Keller and the rest was just history.
"Nobody had did. If Vincent stayed under radar for almost ten years, it was to keep people safe. The people he loved, safe from the mess he had been involved."Cat shook up her head as she had followed up which made Max nod with understadement as if he had known the meaning of it. "And you're probably the first and other person I am able to tell it without feeling any shame or even be able to hold it back from the truth of it."
"And I'm glad you did, Cat." Max had added up back when she caught up his attention and his features were serious enough to hold on onto her statement. However, his eyes looked sincere and full up with pain. as if he had lived through the same pain that Vincent had to go through many years ago."Because it takes a lot of guts to fight up for the man you love and protect him from any harm that might come to be his next threat."
"I know."
"You love him very much as I can see."
"With everything I have. I'd give up my life for him, Max and without any hesitation." Cat declared back and especially with everything they had been through together ever since from the first time they've meet and now they've had accomplished everything to be together. For better for worse and for death till apart which it almost had happened when they were at this close to run and fall apart from living.
Mostly her, when life had been slippering away from her and with the proof that Vincent's lawyer had for defense and pictures he had shown up to them, and not to mention that his father, Martin Jr. Rafferty had been a doctor who also had worked along Murfield and along with Vanessa Chandler as a brilliant scientist back in Afghanistan as well.
But he wasn't so lucky as Catherine's mother had been. Doctor, Martin Lafferty had been killed along with the unstabled soldiers and his son had been trying to find the very same answers just like Cat had been doing for her entire life when she tried so hard on stopping her mother's killers. And she could recognize herself through Chadwick's dark eyes as he had promised that he would fight to the end to protect her husband and make prove DHS that they had been wrong from the start and if they weren't too smart, he'd show up the bloody pictures to the court and expose their failure when it came to protect other people who asked for protection and might as well expose the beast's own existence and they way their goverment had slippery let an but many dangerous people destroy human beings over the years, thinking they were God in the very first place.
"I kinda had wished that Liz felt the same way too.."
"I'm sure she does.."
"You don't know, Liz, Cat." Max had cut her back when she remained calm onto his speech." She can be brillant and funny and also loving, sexy beautiful and fearless when it comes to save the world. And mostly me. Us. If there is an us into it.." He sighed back as she shrugged her shoulders back. Oh boy, there was a time when she classified everything as a case and that was before she had even realized that by standing up with Vincent, it wouldn't be much of a case but personal feelings that had started to occur up.
"You know her better than I do, Max. I can't tell if I'm wrong or right but if she does loves you enough to save you, then I'm definally right about it. I don't think she thinks of you as an science object and if you still think you do. I'm sure she still cares about you."Cat had added up back as Max shrugged up his shoulders in defeat when she tried to push him onto encourage him. "Then you two possibly need to talk about it and to make things right.."
"Maybe you're right."
"I don't know her, Max, but if she loves you enough past all that. It might work.." There was a time when she even considered Vincent as a opened up case which had felt so wrong from that time. And if that Liz girl had also felt the same way about Max, then she'll probably need to wake up and before she realize what she has may go away because of that awful thought of her boyfriend. And Max seemed to be torn between mixed feelings as he wanted to believe into her words but was also afraid to fall over a trap and like she just had said; she doesn't know this Liz girl, his own current girlfriend and couldn't be the very considerating person to give him an great advice but from what she had learnt from.
"Maybe." Max sighed up and finished up his sandwich before he stood up from his chair through her eyes. "We have a case to finish up or if we don't work on it sooner, we may have to go through days-"
"I remembered working on usual and daytime cases that took even longer to finish up with Tess before even days or weeks." She nervously chuckled up that made him smile as she pushed up her chair and rolled up the papper wrap through her fist while her other hand held on onto the decaffeined coffee she had on hold.
"Captain Vargas had worked up with you?" Max wondered up as Cat nodded back as she tried so hard to not grin up when a thought had come accross her mind. Hilarious even!
"Yup. Way back before she became captain and was willed to stay away from pastrami sandwiches as long we worked up together, and you want to know why? Because it made her have a very serious diarrhea whenever the sandwich was filled up with hot sauce, but don't tell her that or else she'll be after my ass.." Cat had admitted back as she watched Max chuckling up at that answer or more like bursting out into a great laughter as they both left the coffee shop together. If it was something she managed to achieve today with success it was making this young man lighten up a bit from his trouble relationship with his girlfriend and pushing back the horrible events of last year and especially when she blamed from losing their normal life. What a bright day it had been!
...
A couple days later. On a late evening, Cat was sitting up onto the examining bench of the of the second place and outside of from the gynecologist's office and desk room with wearing up an hospital and plastic gown as she and Vincent were both waiting for the gynecologist to come out with the results, both of them were anxious enough to explode.
"What's taking her so long?" She whispered back as she rose up her head to see if the treating doctor would show up from her office and jump up here as Vincent remained to his seat to where the chair almost cracked up onto his weight. He rubbed up his hands together as he tried to stay calm here even if he was ready to beast out. Jokely speaking.
"She had other patients before we both came along, Catherine. Embryos and other stuff to settle up. It take some time."He babbled out for an excuse. He was just as nervous like she was here. Oh. He had been happy to hear that she was pregnant of course, but to face it for real had made him anxious and to hear from a real doctor that his wife might be pregnant for real, it did frighted him out. He freed hmself from his scrubbing clothes to his own as he wore simple black t-shirt and dark pants at the very last minute when his wife had walked in and undressed up as they were both waited up for the results of the awaiting pregnancy results from last week.
"But aren't you nervous, already? I mean, it's been like a hour, already!"
"An hour? More like an death sentence. Anxious, that I might even be able to crack up my pants or jump through a window to get away if we don't get the news by now!" Vincent almost exploded back up as he responsed back up to her being worry when he lifted up his head to meet her glance. Where his eyes looked alarmed."Don't think for a second that I'm not nervous. Which I am, here.."
"Okay. You're right.." She replied back and added up quick."Jumping and breaking a window would have been much better.." She muttured through her breath when he sighed back in frustration as he covered his face with his hands. Damn, if she thought she was the one stressed, he also was by the moment and she wasn't making it any easier.
"Catherine, I was just joking. Littertely speaking-" He cursed back under his breath which she caught up back.
"I know what you've meant." Cat sighed back as much as her heartbeat couldn't stop from accelerating. Running away and breaking out the law seemed to have had been easier from before but to find out that she might be pregnant and for real, it frightened her as well as much as it was for Vincent. Oh God.
And not only if there was danger walking around the corner, it was that if she was pregnant and that someone might be after them. It would be even harder to hide with another life on hold. An innocent life like a child. A beast child if it was ever possible and hopefully he or she wouldn't have to face off such a hard fate much like Liam or Tori had before. But it was their child and if it was, both Cat and Vincent would raise their child filled up with love and with the best care they could give and protect him or her from any harm from any hunter or threat.
And if the shooter who had shot her from before, ever decided to come back. Cat and Vincent would be ready to fight back this time. Not for themselves but for their child. Our child. Our lives together as a normal couple. Normal. It was a word that Cat had thought that had been lost from last year and from the way that she blamed Vincent for being at the cause of it and making it happen as if it was by his own fault. And only his fault. Oh God. And now that everything seemed to be perfectly alright as if Braxton or DHS had never stepped into the way, she felt bad for treating him badly and unfairly back at the getaway cabin. She shivered back at that awfull moment which made Vincent drop his hands down and looked up at her.
"You okay?" Vincent's deep voice had shaken her up from her reverie as she turned back at him with a perplexed look.
"I think it's you that I should be probably asking..I might be carrying a beast baby. Your beast baby.." She chuckled back."Right inside over here." She pointed up down onto her flat belly with a small grin which it didn't left Vincent impressed.
"Catherine..Tell me what's wrong..Don't tell me you're having second thoughts-" But she cut him off with a quick shaking denial nod. It wasn't about the baby, but something else that needed to get conclued up as she wanted to be sure. And before they could go on onto their future.
"No. I don't. But I have done a lot of thinking lately in the past few days, and sometimes I want to know; how you can still look up and love me for all the whining stuff I've put you through before.." She inhaled and exhaled back in a shaking breath that had made Vincent look concerned and from the way her heartbeat was fastening up as if tears wanted to roll down onto her face. She closed up shut her eyes as her fingers gripped onto the plastic paper to whom she had been sitting.
"Catherine..You're worrying me.." She chuckled back nervously, and brought up a hand to wip out the threatening tears away from her eyes. But it was no use by now. Okay. Now she was the who made him worry. Well, that was a start. Better get over it and bring on the tissues, cause there would be a lot of crying here coming up.
"Sometimes, I wonder how you forgaved me for lashing out at you and blaming you for the mess that have had happening before with Braxton and with DHS that accused and tortured you with the beast hunting scare and with Heather breaking up with Kyle after the events..It just made me so-" How deep it scared her when she had seen him coming back from the haunted tunnels wheere DHS Agents had held him captive for almost three days until he resurfed back onto J.T.'s Gentlemen's club and claimed that there was no beast but Braxton that had held him and frame him for this mess. A mess when DHS had unfairly tortured him before and to which Chadwick had tried to bring up onto court if the case had kept on going on. However, Catherine felt so horribly wrong for lashing out her anger and her fear of being exposed when Vincent needed assurance coming up from his wife. But she didn't looked as strong as she stated to be and needed him to be ready to face up the accusations and what they could lose up to-As she stood up scared-
"Hey, come here." Vincent stood up from the chair and sat next to her side as he put an arm around her shoulder by bringing her closer to his chest and kissed onto her forehead. She sniffed back as the threatening tears wanted to fall off."We'll make it through. Don't worry."
"It's not the pregnancy that I'm concerned it's just that after I've had a talk with Parsons and with him having problems with his girlfriend, it made me realize how close we've have been to lose everything and with you enduring with me being whiny and stupid as well when we've tried to fix everything-"
"Well, I'll have to stop you right here. I don't mind being with you by being all whiny and annoying. I'd like you better like that than totally being insensitive over the mess I've made you go through. Us going through. You'll have to remember that I have the Keller's boys bad gene; being a hothead is through the blood. Cat." He scoffed back with comfort as he rubbed up her arm. She felt herself shiver through his warming touch and with the way he talked, his voice sounded so calm and appeasing and close enough to break down.
"I know that, but-"
"But it'll have to change once we do know for sure if we're having a kid out here. A real kid. I'll have to change and to be better as a human being. Can't always seek for for tracking out trouble from where it isn't."
"I can't always try to save the world, I know. But I wonder sometimes what had happened with the videotapes. The ones who Braxton had made you do the horrible things or forced you to make.." Cat held him back with a sigh."If DHS didn't kept you for long than it must be-"
"Maybe, they did not held any information on me other with Braxton's faking disappearence. Tess made it sure that after finding him again hiding up into his car, that it was the real man who tried to run away and ended up getting killed after she and J.T. had shot him to death. But you're right. If DHS hadn't kept me for long, it must be because they couldn't visualized the tapes. And because someone had stole them." But who did?
"Don't think it's about the hired shooter who had shot me before?"
"Don't think so. But if Braxton had one last hunter under his sleeve it must have been. If she or he had witnessed the bridge explosion and us running away. He or she had probably figured that it had been planned. Then, I would say that he or she wasn't acting alone and probably had been under our radar for a little time. It followed us from there to our appartement." Vincent had followed up back."And had disappeared out of our way." Which Cat had agreed back. If the hirred hitman had kept continued on attacking them both, things would have gotten more worse but it didn't. The hitman had disappeared and for what reason? None of them had the clue either.
"And still no clues to where she or he must be hiding by now."
"Nope." She felt him shake his head as she pulled away from his embrace to look up at him, with hope when he looked down upon her.
"Did you ever forgive me for lashing out at you at the cabin?" He nodded back with a small smile.
"I did." He looked through her eyes and wipped off the strained tears laid onto her cheeks with his thumb.."And despite even if your words hurted me, you were right. We couldn't keep on playing smart or thinking that we could fool anybody else from before. It made me realize how far and close we were about to lose here."
"Vincent.."
"It should be me. I mean being the one who needs to appolegize. Not you. You weren't for nothing onto that mess." He admitted back. Knowning how he had been reckless and sturborn had almost made think about that thought of; them losing everything onto clinging up onto the very possible and normal life they desesparetely wanted to have and to whom everybody wanted to take away from them.
"I'm so sorry for blaming you, Vincent from before.." She declared back when he sighed back and closed his eyes as he held up a hand in surrounder. And had opened them back to reply as he sat there with her and appolegized as well.
"And I'm sorry for being too much sturborn from not listening up to you when you needed my help on collaborating with you. My support whenever you needed me by your side." Vincent followed back as he leaned back to kiss her dearly onto her lips which she responsed back with the same passion. She rose up her arms around his neck as his arms were traveling around her waist which was covered up with the plastic gown but as his hands moved around, he stopped into an alerting mood when he pulled away from the kiss. Cat watched his eyes blinking up as he looked down at her midsection as if he was lost somewhere else. It was a look she often had witnessed from before whenever he did looked as if he was onto a certain track or something.
"Vincent!-"
"Wait a second.."
"What, I-"
"Don't move." He urged back as he focused on a hearing tracking device or the way it sounded like it. His ears perked up as he had heard something unusual and slowly laid his palm toward onto her flat belly and concentrated onto something as his beast hearing was slowing taking place for a second. Which made Catherine think about the very possible situation as she had already figured out what he had been thinking at this moment now.
"Vincent, are you thinking wh-"
"Thinking what I'm possibly be thinking now? It might be.." He almost smiled at whatever sound he was probably be hearing by now."It might be faint and little, but Catherine, I think that I can hear it. I believe I can." He was certain as much he was trying hold back his grin from his features but couldn't. Scared or not, he wasn't. Vincent felt too much happy to let go through him and especially when the two of them were as close to lose everything they've held on.
"And? Tell me how it is! Tell me how it is! Tell-" Cat was shook him up wildly onto grabbing onto his arm, urging him on telling more and with the way he heard things from a far. Which made him release a softening chuckle through his throat.
"Easy, easy, kitty girl. I said; it still sounds faint and little I know, but I believe I've heard a small heartbeat." He grabbed up her hand away and stared down at her with his glowing and natural eyes. Not the usual beast ones she was used to see, but his own brown chocolate ones that were glowing up with greatfullness and happiness. And especially at this second chance they were having. "Not moving or budging around yet, but I can hear its heartbeat.."
"You sure, you can hear it?" She responsed back as a whisper as he nodded back which made her burst out into tears. Relieved tears much as he was laughing up at the exposed feelings and much when she stroked up his face and brought him up closer to kiss him and brush up her lips through his. How good it felt. Not only he hadn't never felt any anger through her blaming about them losing their normal life or nearly losing her life either. It was a matter of an rare joy which it didn't often happen until later on when Cat had announced him that she was pregnant and to his answer, Vincent had only shown happiness and greatefullness towards her announcement. He felt whole again and mostly wouldn't want to miss this opportunity ever. Everything felt just as perfect. She was certain of it and wasn't ashamed to declare it out loud.
"I love you."
"I love you too. So much, Catherine.." He wipped out the tears away and stroked her cheek."And never say that I've ever blamed you for everything, because of my faults. You were just as afraid like I've been; to lose everything and our own normal life and yet here we are having the best gift that any of us would want.." He blinked up back as much as he grinned hard even if his eyes whom glowed were ready to watering up her view. Both of them whom life had been hard lately had blessed them with a gift that a couple could ever had asked from the day she had come up to his life and saved and loved him. Catherine swallowed back up an sob as she rose up her head to and leaned back her head toward Vincent when she reached up his lips to kiss him as he leaned down and closed up his eyelids to brush up her lips into another passionate kiss..
"Miss Chandler?" Another female voice was heard from behind their back which made them startle up from her intimacy. Cat turned around as Vincent looked baffled as much as she looked to be. Both were blushing up as if they were still teenagers caught up into an forbbiden corner.
"Oh..Yeah?" She covered up her cheek to wipe off the strained tears onto her cheeks, nervously as Vincent sighed back in relief as he whirled his head away from the doctor's sight.
"I'm sorry if I've made you wait, but I had to verify on certain notes and scan sheets from a prior couple and I wanted to make sure that everything turned out alright for the surrogate who showed good results on holding on to the embryo.." The female doctor sighed back as she wipped out the sweat out of her brow when Cat asked back as if she had misheard from that last sentence.
"Surrogate?"
"Let's just say that not all couples have the chances to experience an normal pregnancy as others do. But luckily, a friend from the supportive couple had volunteered to carry onto their baby onto term.." The female doctor had sighed back. Into her early thirties, Dr. Angela Varkis was a simple and gynecologist through her young age. Her long hair had been tied up onto a ponytail and looked tough enough as much like Catherine looked like at the moment. Varkis had nice hazel eyes and had cute dimples to whenever she grinned back through her determinated face. But had been studious and strong throughout her entire life as she worked hard to get what she wanted.
"But anyways, we both know that we aren't here to discuss about another couple's diagnosis but to talk about yours and Keller's, of course. And yours seems to be much better and positive to hear." Her hazel and trained eyes looked back out at Vincent at the moment when she mentionned his name. He felt like he had been caught up onto cracking up his pants when she observed him with a stern look."Just be happy, that I haven't condamned you by cleaning up the floors with a tooth brush, cause unlike Dr Heidari, I would have had made you suffer worse than covering up an normal night shift, you know?"
"I wouldn't have had toughed up with a tooth brush, if you meant by cleaning up the entire hospital floors.." Vincent had replied back as a lame excuse much as he felt uncomfortable with a woman who just revealed that she would have made him do much worse than covering up simple night shifts. Which made Cat snort out with a burning laughter when she witnessed the scene between them and especially when she caught up her husband blushing up here.
"So, doc. Just to not be any funnier than it already is, but am I pregnant or not?" And especially when the two of them had been waiting long enough to bite each other's nails so they could know the answer and for real this time. After two near pregnancies scares, Cat wanted to make sure it wasn't a false alarm. She gripped up Vincent's hand tight enough as she watched the doctor going through her files here and lifted up her attention with a sigh back to the anxious couple here who felt like dying up here.
And mostly, Vincent. It was his gene being and might past down into her own body. Beast or not, he wasn't certain of it but he wanted to know, desesparately.
"Well, I'm glad to tell you that your results had been positive and through your blood results, I'm sure you would deliver a baby totally healthy and into safe circumstances."Dr Varkis had stated back with a proud smile which made them release up an relief up sigh as Vincent had pulled up his free arm around Cat's shoulder to bring her more closer to him much as she felt happy tears that were about to fall over again. Damn. These hormones. She would have to deal with them for a while now until this baby comes out.
"So, I'm pregnant and for real?"
"We both are, aren't we?" Still dumbfounded, Vincent pointed both of them as if the news were still hard to adjust like it had been for him, a week ago when she announced him that Cat had announced him that she was pregnant and took an appointement with the doctor to make sure she was.
"Yes. You are pregnant and more than two weeks, I have to say back." The female doctor looked certain of it. More than two weeks? How come? Was it the reason how Vincent figured out about the beating heart than he should have had before?
"How far I am?"
"Mostly a month, I have to say. You've told me last time when you came for an exam, that you were late right before, right?" Which Cat had nodded up to that question as she ran her fingers through her hair.
"Mostly because of work and stress, that what's I've thought, at first and especially after two near prengnencies scares with the very same guy here." Cat had admitted back quickly by pointing up to Vincent who pouted back at her, frustrated as if it was his fault. "I'm a detective and working up at the 125th precinct for almost twelve years. I've been trying to earn back my hours and worked up for the time I've lost and made the others go nuts with it. But now, that I'm pregnant, I should-"
"Try, to stay out of stress, it might be my own advice that I need you to follow. You've shown me up your last surgichical scar from last year and I do need to say; stay out of the mess you've been involved previously. You may be young and very healthy, Mrs Chandler, but you have to think that it's not only your life that you do have on hold but your child's as well, here."Dr. Varkis felt like she had to interviene up as the female detective nodded back with understatement. Like Vincent was willing to change his moods, she was willed to do so in sake for this baby.
"Yes. I do know." Cat nodded back down feeling a little nostalgic about it. Now that she learned that she was truly carrying a young and innocent life inside of her flat belly, things would have to be different this time. No more chasing over beasts or hunters. She could still be achasing out the real bad guys outside and even if someone was hunting out there for Vincent or herself, they'll probably have to think over it again before making a drastic move unlike last year with Braxton. And now with J.T and Tess living into their own space, they'll need to do much better than to put their friends's life under jeopardy all over again. And with Heather who tried to stay away from trouble and emotionelly away from it, Cat wanted to make sure this time; things would be better than before.
"We both do know, now." Vincent's deep voice had jerked her out from her thoughts when she turned around to glance up as his features when his hand had let her own to laid down onto her flat belly. Where a small and tiny heartbeat was heard through a beast's hearing. It was still small and still invisible, but her husband was sure he had heard it beating up out loud. Just like he had heard her heart racing up fastening. However his eyes were staring out onto her own with love and passion and with relief. By being and staying together as they've always had from before, they could conquer anything and even if they haven't catched up the shooter from last year and dealing up with Max's personal troubles with his girlfriend.
Cause by stating together, they could overcome anything.
"Well. Just to let you know. I'm glad to announce you that you're pregnant and that I'm the very first person to say it. So, congratulations, to you both." The female doctor had announced with a smile back to the relieved couple.
"So, this is real? We are pregnant.." Still Vincent wanted to be sure which made Dr, Varkis's happy smile turn onto a frown as if he didn't trusted her judgement which made Cat burst out with laughter. That female doctor looked like she wanted to kill him, for a second.
"Unless, you want me to show you and kick your head with how it exactly function-" She frowned back at his face when he shook up his head in denial too much for Cat's happiness here.
"No, no, no! I'm okay with it! We both are!" Vincent had quickly answered back with a laugh as he waved his hand at her face. Happy as he was and much like Cat hadn't seen him for a very longtime with the way his dimples rose up and cracked onto a very rare smile. He looked very young and refreshed whenever he smiled or even laughed. And it was a very nice laugh as Cat could observe up from him. This happy and ongoing side of him which she hadn't seen from him often, because of the bad events they've experienced before which made her crack up into a huge grin.
Because, she was the one who made him smile and smile way more often in the future to come. More happier moments to come between them.
"I can't believe it! We're pregnant..We're pregnant!" Vincent laughed back and kissed her back once or maybe twice already and before he stood up and run and spin around to open the door of the room and almost yelled out his lungs out if Cat hadn't stood up to catch him from acting up crazy.
Even if he was happy and ready to scream it out to the rooftops and out to everybody.
"Hey, we're gonna have a baby! I'm gonna have a baby! I'm gonna be a dad-"
"Hush down, you idiot! People can hear us.." She shushed him up by covering up his laughing mouth with her palm as much she kept on grinning up as well. Damn, his laughter and smile were just as contagious to stay calm through this scary moment. Happy moments like these, they needed to be more.
"Seriously, Vincent. You're acting up crazy here.." She couldn't help but smile as if other problems they had occured from before hadn't mattered. Vincent chuckled back through her hand palm and took it away as he nodded happily. He held up her hand to his chest as he tried to control his excitement.
"I am crazy and yet much happy, but that's because you make me very much happy, Catherine and I can't ever thank you enough for that and so much that I'm grateful for.." He chuckled back and through a bursting sob from his voice.
"Just give him some ouzo, it'll calm him down from the emotions.." Dr, Varkis had whispered back as a joke to Cat's ear and walked back away to her desk onto the room as Vincent shook his head and sighed in relief. When Cat had laughed back, softly at the doctor's joke but it was to Vincent's own eyes and expression she concentrated herself onto.
"I love you so much, Catherine. Catherine Keller.." He whispered back as she chuckled up through that last name. A name whom she would gladly carry on for the next few years to come."Forever and ever."
"I love you too. And so much, Vincent Keller. You can guarantee onto that." She whispered back as she rose up her arms around his neck as he his back laid to the door and when he put his hands around her waist as he slowly went down as he closed up his eyes, to kiss her once again into a passionate kiss. A new chapter was about to begin and a baby would slowly start to come up to the place which had made them more happier than ever and as long they were together, they could overcome anything.
The only thing they needed to do is to inform their friends and Cat's little sister. Which it still sounded a little unreal and weird to overcome without causing up any drama to come.
...
Oh Crap. Only one review? Beasties, where are you? Anyways, I felt like writing up this oneshot after I've watched the 'The Getaway' episode from season four. I always wondered if Cat had appolegized herself after blowing out to Vincent after that scene at the cabin. Not that it wasn't Vincent's fault but he surely needed to comeback to his senses before something else had come along and with Cat accusing him of losing their normal, it just felt wrong to me at least. I know that Cat wasn't perfect but still, she lashed out to Vincent which broke my heart out and frustrated me and later on I had stopped watching up the rest of the last season. Not that it was written wrong but it felt so sad which the way it held and was going onto a different direction than I've expected to. So I wondered what would have had happened if things went a little bit differentely if they had time to speak out about that event from season four. And especially when they were waiting at that examining room alone as they were waiting for Cat's results to come out.
Anyways. Thanks again for the support and please, don't give up onto the BATB fanfiction and support the writers here. The show may be over, but not the fans over here. I love you guys. Don't give up and please, send me request if you want a VinCat oneshot to appear. Thank you and I love you!
