Chapter 28: Akara's Birthday
(Opening A/N: This is going to be a bit of a filler chapter but this is going to be for the fact that it's St. Patrick's day and it also happens to be Akara's birthday as well, so without further ado, here in the chapter)
Today was not only a very special day for all the Irish in the world or the Irish at heart, it was also my little girl's birthday.
And speaking of my little girl, she climbed on top of me trying to wake me up, but I was just laying in bed being lazy.
"Rise and shine daddy, it's St. Patrick's day." Akara said as she knew that if I wasn't wearing green, I was going to get pinched.
So I leaned up and rubbed my eyes, getting some feeling along with grabbing my glasses so I could see my beautiful daughter who was wearing a green dress since today was an Irish holiday and she also happens to have Irish in her as well.
"You know, it was seven years ago today when your mom brought you into this world, and now you're growing up and about to become an older sister." I said, and she knew that she had to wait about another eight months before Mirajane could give birth to the baby.
"Are you wearing green daddy? You don't want to get pinched by the leprechauns." Akara warned as I showed that I had my prosthetic left arm which was emerald green.
"Does that answer your question, why don't you go out and let me get changed, okay? I will be out in a minute." I said as Akara went out of the room and I got into some comfortable day clothing, as soon as I walked out of the room, I was greeted by Mirajane who used her magic to turn her hair green.
"Well, top o' the mornin to ya Mira." I said in an Irish accent.
"And a top o' the mornin to you as well my beloved husband." She replied in her Irish accent as we both kissed.
"It's just different seeing you with green hair, but then again it is St. Patrick's day." I said in my normal voice.
"True, also maybe you should get some breakfast before you plan on going anywhere with Akara." Mirajane replied and I headed for the cafeteria as they were serving some good food including Irish boxty which is a potato pancake pan fried and it is so good.
So I grabbed some boxty, some bacon, scrambled eggs, and some corned beef.
"Happy St Patty's day big bruthah." Aiden said very chipper as he had a huge plate full of meat and eggs.
"And a very happy St. Patrick's day to you little bro." I replied as I sat down next to him and tried the Irish boxty first since potatoes are the greatest staple food of Irish culture.
So I cut into the boxty as I took a bite and it was really enjoyable as I definitely had a huge love for potatoes. Of course Aiden also had some boxty as well and for a cat like him, he burns a hell of a lot of calories along with being mostly a meat and potato eater.
We ate our breakfast and both Aiden and I had an idea of what to do with Akara, just then this took me back to when we celebrated Akara's third birthday.
[Four years ago…]
I couldn't believe that Akara was growing up and I used to remember when she was born, she was wrapped around my little finger but Akame and I wanted to give her a better future for her, but her one wish was to be an older sister and she needed to wait about four years before I could grant her that wish.
But she was just so cute when she blew out her candle on her birthday cake and it was a moment in time I wouldn't trade the world for, but of course, Aiden snapped me back out of my nostalgia trip.
"Whatcha thinkin' about big bruthah?" Aiden asked and I had just the answer for that.
"Well as you should know, today is your niece's birthday and also are you wearing green by any chance?" I replied since I didn't want the poor exceed to be pinched and at least Yoshi is safe since she has green fur.
"Ay, I happen to have this." Aiden said as he pulled out a shamrock pendant that he wore around his neck.
Of course it was to symbolize that he was an Irish cat, since I passed some of my Irish onto him and of course he has that heavy Bostonian accent of his, and of course if it weren't for the fact that I found his egg resting at the bottom of the Boston harbor and passed of my Bostonian linguistics unto him, since my friends and I spend most of our time cussing each other out like the locals of Boston.
As soon as we finished our breakfast, we decided to go over to Coney Island since that place was under Resistance protection and we decided to spend some time with Akara since this was the best way to bond with a little girl.
It seems that there were some skee ball games that were operational and they also had some playable arcade games as well where you can win tickets for prizes.
Of course Aiden started a game and was about to cheat but throwing the skee ball as a baseball.
"Ah ah, no cheating Aiden." I said as he knew that this was a game of skill and throwing them was still cheating and they also had grates over them to prevent people from throwing them into the targets.
"How does the game work daddy?" Akara asked as I pressed the start button on the game as the balls rolled down and the timer began, I showed her that she had to roll it down the ramp and hit the targets the ones in the corners are worth the most points so I rolled on and it landed in the ten point hole, adding 10 points to my score.
"The objective of this is to score as many points as you can before time runs out."
Akara started a game of her own as she scored the 500 points hole on her first roll, damn, she's becoming a pro at this game, as she started racking up a damn good score.
We kept playing our games of skee ball, and we managed to rack up a total of 400 tickets.
So we kept playing games which we knew made us bond even more since that broken bond that separated me from my daughter was being mended and I was becoming a dad again.
The next game we decided to play was the alien version of whack-a-mole, so we played a couple of games scoring a total of 200 tickets making it 600 total.
So we decided to take a break and get something to eat, and this brought me back to the conversation Dr. Weller and I had about a certain slow moving illness I had that was going to be the inevitable end of me.
"We don't know how long it will be before the illness takes you, but are you sure about this?" Dr. Weller asked and he was going to give the nanobots a bit of an upgrade with it shaving off more of my human lifespan.
"As long as I can create a future for my kids and they can grow up happy and free, along with making sure the Messiah isn't there in that future, I will be happy and I know my kids won't ever forget me, and all I do will not be in vain." I replied as I had a syringe get injected in the back of my neck and injected the enhancers into my spine as it was to give the nanobots a bit more of an upgrade.
But I wanted to tell her the bad news that I am currently living on borrowed time, but today is her birthday and she deserves to be happy.
"Are you okay daddy? You're spacing out." Akara said, and as much as I wanted to break the bad news to her, I just couldn't bear to see her sad, especially when it came to her being seven years old today.
"I'm fine pumpkin, it's just I was lost in thought that's all, so what do you want to do now?" I asked and she pointed at the Merry Go Round.
So we went on the Merry Go Round and I was happy that my little girl was having a good time.
After we got a whole bunch of tickets, we headed for the prize booth and decided to exchange whatever Akara wanted since spending time with her dad was my birthday present to her.
We placed the tickets on the glass counter and the man began counting the tickets and we had about 5,000 tickets total and we could get whatever we wanted.
"Whatever the girl wants, because it's her birthday today." I said to the prize attendant.
Akara pointed to a giant teddy bear that was about 1,000 tickets so she pointed at it and the attendant got it for her and we also got some smaller prizes as well and headed back to the Resistance base.
As soon as we got there, everyone was wearing green and having a good time and Mirajane also gave me and Akara some homemade Shamrock shakes but mine was spiked with a bit of Bailey's Irish Cream and Akara's was non-alcoholic since she was still too young to drink.
"Did you have fun with your dad Akara?" Akame asked as she saw all the prizes we won on our little father/daughter trip to Coney Island.
"Of course mommy, I mean just spending time with daddy was the best part of my day." Akara said and I knew that we were blessed to have such a wonderful little girl like Akara.
So we had a St. Patrick's day feast of corned beef, cabbage, and potatoes, and also we had a birthday cake but didn't light the candles and instead of singing happy birthday, I decided to give a speech to commemorate two special days, so I tapped a fork against a glass to get everyone's attention along with clearing my throat.
"Fellow resistance members and anarchists, today we celebrate both a death and a life, today marks the anniversary of St. Patrick's death, a day where anyone and everyone can be Irish even if you aren't Irish in blood. The true meaning of 's day isn't about being Irish, it's about being with the ones you love and care about whether it's your friends or your family. But also today, we celebrate the birth of a life as well, because seven years ago today, this little girl came into our world through the most beautiful woman ever. And I am blessed to have her as a part of my life and she will also be a big sister since we are expecting another kid on the way, but not through Akame but through Mirajane." I said as I pulled out a lighter and lit the candles as she then made a wish and blew out the candles on the cake.
We enjoyed the day and also had a few photos to commemorate this day and we all knew that today was a day we all needed to get together and have fun, the one thing we are fighting for.
[To Be Continued…]
