Disclaimer: I still do not own X-Men.

Author's note: I have returned. I'm not sure if anyone really cares or will even notice but it's whatever.

So quick explanation before we dive into the chapter. Several years back my laptop broke and I lost the files for this story and I lost my motivation to keep writing. However recently I've rewatched Evolution and read a bunch of Kurtty fanfiction which made me want to continue. There's nothing worse than reading a story that's never finished.

Okay so that's a bit of an exaggeration. But I felt bad leaving the story where it was so I'm gonna try my hardest to at least finish it. Spoilers: it's not gonna end at this chapter. There's at least a few more.

Anyways, point being that's why it's been so long but I'm back now so. I hope if anyone actually reads this they enjoy it.

Onto Chapter 5:

As Kurt awoke he could immediately sense something was amiss. The first tell was the distinct scent of antiseptics and a hint of blood. The second, larger tell, was the tremendous pain racing throughout his body.

His eyelids sprang apart as he winced from the agony. He regretted it as soon as his gaze met the bright lights positioned over the infirmary bed he was currently laid upon.

"How are you feeling Kurt?" A familiar voice announced itself from just outside his field of vision. He painfully attempted to turn his head to find the Professor looking over him.

"Like ze Juggernaut's punching bag ," Kurt deadpanned in response. "Vhat happened Professor?"

"Actually Kurt I was hoping you could enlighten me." Xavier studied him for a moment. Kurt twitched under his gaze. He knew the Professor would not approve of his actions. Luckily for Kurt the Professor seemed to let it slide for the time being. "Scott brought you in last night. You were in a rather bad condition."

"Zo, how bad is ze damage?" Kurt groaned as he tried to sit up.

"Well I'm afraid you have broken your ankle. You also have several contusions along your upper back."

"Don't forget the broken nose." Scott chimed in as he entered the infirmary.

"Yes we shan't forget that." the Professor added with a subtle bemused smile tugging at his usually serious features.

"Wunderbar." Kurt deadpanned again.

"I'm afraid it will take several weeks to heal." The Professor stated as he interlaced his hands in thought. "For most it would be around six to eight weeks but thankfully your healing factor, though not as advanced as Logan's, should help speed things along a bit."

"When vill I return to school?" Kurt asked. He hated the thought of being stuck in the Institute for a month.

"You may return after a few days of rest," He answered, placing a comforting hand on the furry boy's shoulder. "I'm sure the other students will be happy to bring you your assignments in the meantime."

Scott nodded as he took the empty visitor's chair to Kurt's left.

"When you do return however you will have to use crutches for the remaining weeks. It's important that your injuries heal properly." The Professor continued. "I'll be back in a little while to see how you are doing but for now I think it's important that you attempt to get some rest."

"Ja, danke Professor." Kurt said gratefully.

"Of course Kurt, and if you need anything I'm merely a thought away." The Professor replied with his trademark comforting smile before leaving.

As soon as he was certain they were alone Scott spoke up. "So do you want to tell me about it?"

Kurt tried to put on his best innocent face, a difficult task with his bandaged nose. "I don't know vhat you mean?"

Scott raised his brow and even without seeing his eyes, Kurt knew the leader of the X-Men wouldn't be so easily fooled.

"I don't vant to talk about it." Kurt muttered, turning to avoid the ruby covered gaze of his friend.

"Kurt I saw what happened. You started that fight. Why?" The mutant leader known as Cyclops demanded.

Kurt sighed in defeat. He knew when Scott was determined nothing could stop him from achieving his goals. "Okay fine. He hurt Keety. Apparently she caught him cheating on her. Somezing inside me snapped. Is zat vhat you vanted to hear?" He retorted with more hostility than expected.

"I see." Scott replied seemingly deep in thought.

After several moments of silence Kurt spoke up. "Vell, aren't you going to yell at me?"

"Actually Kurt, I'd have probably done the same in your shoes." Scott admitted leaning back in his chair. Another thick silence filled the air before Scott continued. "So you still like her, huh?"

Kurt began blushing purple under his fur. "Is it zat obvious?"

Scott lay a gentle but reaffirming hand on his younger friend's shoulder. "Not to her."

Kurt didn't know wether to feel relieved or not. "Vell..." He managed to squeak out after a moment. "Zat is good I suppose."

"Are you gonna tell her?"

Kurt, shutting his eyes before shaking his head, croaked "She hates mein guts. Und I deserve it."

"I'm sure that's not true Kurt. You guys are best friends."

Kurt dropped his face into his abnormal hands. "It is true. I vas terrible to her. I stood her up und chose Amanda over her."

"Maybe after she finds out you sucker punched Lance she'll forgive you." Scott supplied.

"Nein! She must never find out Scott!" Kurt begged. "Can ve just tell everyone I hurt myself in ze danger room? Please?"

Scott was taken back by the sheer desperateness coming from the younger boy he had come to see as a brother. He hated the idea of lying about Kurt's injuries but he finally gave in. "Well I suppose."

"You really mean it?!?" The way Kurt beamed convinced Scott he was making the right choice.

"Sure, I mean it's not exactly hard to believe considering how much time you spend in there lately."

"Oh Danke Scott!" Kurt shifted to hug the older glasses clad boy but quickly stopped as the pain set in once more causing him to blench.

"Hey don't thank me just try to get better soon. This is a one time offer okay?" Scott said standing from his seat before heading towards the door. "Now how about I bring you down some breakfast?"

Scott was sure the widest grin he'd ever seen spread across the other boy's face, fangs bared and all.

"Now you are speaking my language!"

Evan wiped the sleep from his eyes as he stumbled through the dining room doorway. Having missed his alarm he was sure that the institute's fuzzy black hole would have engulfed all the remains of breakfast. To his surprise however he found several platters of pancakes, eggs, sausage and fruit on the dinning table.

"Woah man is that food still on the table? This late in the day?" He pulled out the closest chair and began to pour himself a large glass of milk. "Is the K-man feeling alright today?"

"Ah don't know ain't no one seen him."

"Like whatever, maybe the rest of us will finally get the chance to eat something." Kitty grumbled under her breath.

As Scott walked through the door he began piling what seemed to be pounds of food onto a large dish.

"Or maybe not." Rogue muttered eyeing their leader. "Ya got enuff there Scott?"

"I'm just making a plate for Kurt." Scott answered without turning from his task.

Evan moaned. "How come no one ever brings me breakfast?"

"Yeah like, what is he too good to eat with us now?"

Scott stopped to eye the brunette. Maybe Kurt was right. "Actually Kurt hurt himself in a danger room session last night. He's laid out in the infirmary so I figured I'd be nice and bring him something to eat."

Kitty immediately felt regret and embarrassment bubbling inside of her.

Rogue was the first to speak up. "What happened?!"

Scott froze. He hadn't thought about how to answer if someone asked how Kurt had gotten hurt. "He uh, was distracted." It was a weak excuse but he hoped they'd buy it.

"Not surprised. K-man's been acting weird lately. What's wrong with him anyway, Kitty?"

Kitty sat in silence looking at the plate in front of her. When she didn't answer immediately Rogue prodded her. "Kit?" Kitty finally looked up.

"I'm sorry what?"

"I asked why Kurt's been acting weird." The others were staring at her with quizzical expressions. Kitty felt her face begin to heat up.

"Why would I know?"

"Well aren't you guys like best friends or somethin'?"

From the corner of the room, seemingly forgotten, Scott watched intently. He needed to know how Kitty would answer.

Kitty huffed. Why'd they have to grill her about things they don't understand?

"We aren't that close."

Rogue and Evan's mouths dropped in shock but Scott merely shook his head in disappointment before walking out the room. She wasn't sure why but she felt guilty.

"What happened y'all used to do everythang together?" Rogue wasn't about to stop pressing the topic. Everyone knew how close the two had been.

"Like, nothing happened. Just mind your own business Rogue." Kitty hissed, phasing through the floor before they could question her anymore.

Well there we go. A new chapter and it only took like half a decade. Seriously though if anyone actually reads this I hope you enjoy it. Reviews would be nice but I'm not expecting anything for a six year old story.
