Chapter 5: Order 65 vs Order 66
Upon Yoda's return from Kashyyk, he immediately met with the Jedi with several groups of clone troopers.
"General Kenobi, what are the orders for taking the Chancellor?" Commander Cody asks as he prepares his men.
"We will attempt to take him quietly. But in the event of severe resistance, you are authorized to neutralize." Obi-Wan explains.
"Yes sir." Cody replies. "Come on lads, onto the ship." The clones and Jedi board gunships and fly towards the Chancellor's office.
As the clones and Jedi make their way to the Chancellor's office, Yoda senses a disturbance in the force.
"One moment, a disturbance I sense." Reaching out with the Force, Yoda then ignites his lightsaber and signals for his fellow Jedi to do the same. Suddenly several shock troopers emerge from behind pillars leading to the Chancellor's office. Their weapons are aimed at the Jedi.
"Drop your weapons, troopers! The Jedi are traitors!" Commander Fox shouts.
"What is the meaning of this, Fox?" Cody asks, confused. "The Jedi aren't traitors. The Chancellor had been deemed unfit to continue serving in office. We're carrying out Order 65."
"Our orders are to carry out Order 66, as the Jedi have betrayed the Republic." Fox counters. "And we will stop them… and anyone who stands with them."
"It doesn't have to be this way." Cody says.
"I'm sorry." Fox cocks his gun and fires only for the bolt to be blocked by Obi-Wan. All the other troopers open fire upon their respective targets. Anakin assists Obi-Wan in helping defend their clones as the other Jedi advance forward.
"What's the plan now, Master?" Anakin asks.
"Fight like hell." Obi-Wan quips. "We can't let the Chancellor escape. If he does, who knows how many clones he can turn against the Jedi, or the Republic in general."
The clones and Jedi advance forward as they fend off the shock troopers. Finding an opening towards the door, Anakin rushes towards it and makes his way inside. To help the Jedi, he slams the shock troopers back into the wall and knocks most of them out. They march down the corridors to the Chancellor's office.
"Cautious we must remain. Unaware of further tricks, we are." Yoda warns. As the Jedi walk through his private quarters, they notice that the Chancellor is not there. On his desk, Anakin notices a hologram device and pushes that button. A message from Palpatine plays.
"Foolish boy. You could've become a powerful Sith. If you had only listened to me and finished Dooku, you would've been more powerful than any Jedi would have allowed you to be. You and your Jedi comrades will pay for this."
Anakin crushes the hologram with his fist. As he looks up, he sees Fox with a blaster aimed at him. Before he can react, Cody rushes Fox and hurls himself and the shock trooper out a window. In the process, he is shot in the chest.
"We have to help him!" Anakin says.
"No. Sense where the Chancellor has fled to, I do." Yoda says. "To the Jedi Temple he has fled to. Revenge he is seeking."
"You think he is going to assasinate Count Dooku?" Windu asks.
"Kill his former apprentice, he will attempt. Attack the Jedi in the Temple he will." Yoda explains.
"We need to return to the Temple. Anakin, send out a signal to the Temple guards. Warn them about the Chancellor. Put all Jedi on high alert." Mace Windu orders. As Anakin attempts to contact the guards and Jedi at the Temple, he is unable to get in touch with anyone.
"Damn. No signal. Son of a bitch must have jammed our signal." Anakin explains.
"In that case we can't wait around here any longer." Obi-Wan says. The Jedi all gather back into their ships with any remaining clones they have left to get back to the Temple.
"Pilot, get us back to the Temple." Obi-Wan orders.
"Yes sir." The pilot says as he takes off. As he takes off Obi-Wan looks down back at the Chancellor's building in shock.
"Cody!" He shouts as Anakin looks down also in shock. They see Cody running out of his office chased by several shock troopers. Running in pain he fired back at his former fellow troopers. He is shot several more times before dropping to his knees. He looks up at the leaving ships and raises his hands above his head. In his left hand is a detonator, he sets it off killing the remaining shock troopers.
Witnessing his comrade die, Obi-Wan is now determined to make sure that Cody's death was not in vain.
