The Fury of the Night

Chapter 7. Morning/Night

David roused briefly during his pleasant slumber and shifted position, rolling himself to his other side. His arms never let loose of Raven, pulling her with him, sliding her body across his chest and settling her on his other side. He smiled softly at the way she let him move her and how she simply curled into him again. His breath caught at the sound she made as she slid her arm beneath his and pushed her face into his chest; it was like the soft purr of a wild cat. Burying his face in her long hair, he breathed her in deeply and couldn't help but moan softly as his body reacted to hers. Purple sparks began to snap out from her, even as she continued to sleep. David knew she was feeling his emotions, even in her slumber, and he forced his body into submission, not wanting to even chance breaking the trust she was showing him. As he let his eyes close again, the last thing he saw was a wash of gentle purple fire surround them both then slowly fade away.

Many hours later, Raven's eyes opened in the continued darkness. Her basest senses let her know she was in more than a safe place, surrounded by others who would protect her if she were in such need. She sensed the time to be a couple of hours short of sunset. She sent out a tiny spark and several candles lit themselves as if a dimmer switch on a lamp had been turned up to low, and then she leaned back ever so slowly, looking up at David's strong face where it rested peacefully on a pillow.

He was so very wickedly handsome. Thick blonde eyebrows contrasted against those obscenely long black eyelashes that rested softly against his high cheekbones. That nose, straight and perfect. Blonde stubble on his cheeks and chin and over the top of those sensual lips. Those lips…firm, curving so sensuously…she bit her lip as she thought of the way they had felt last night against hers.

As if he felt her perusal, David moaned and shifted his body, wrapping his arms even more tightly around her and pulling her even closer to him. Her leg rested lightly atop his and a tangle of soft sheet and blanket was twisted between their lower bodies. Raven, untangling her arm from under his, leaned back a little further to take him in. She slid her eyes over his throat, prominent adam's apple, and sliding down, across his broad chest. Unable to help herself, she reached out, lightly running her fingers over the solid pecs, then trailing down the center of his chest, lower still to his upper abdomen. His flesh felt like crushed velvet over granite and she willed her body to not burst into flame at the feel of him. He shifted again and then she could feel his manhood, long and thick and hard as it pressed against her thigh. She drew in a breath; he was so big. How had she not noticed before? After all, she had been sitting on his lap the previous evening. As of it's own accord, her hand began to run lower over his rock-hard abs as her crimson eyes narrowed.

A large hand suddenly clamped over her wrist and she yipped in surprise, then laughed at having been found out.

"Ah ah ah. What's down there is dangerous for little girls." David's deep voice was teasing.

Her eyes snapped up to find his dark and blue and deep and a smirk on those handsome lips.

"I was just…exploring." she said, lowering her eyelashes teasingly.

"Exploring…mmm-hmmm. Do you like what you discovered so far, Little Bird?" he rasped with a grin.

Raven giggled and answered, "Yes. Very much so."

He reached out and smoothed a lock of that magnificent hair back from her face and brushed his thumb along her jaw, letting his gaze travel over her face.

"Did you rest well?" he asked.

Raven smiled and replied, "You know I did. I have not slept so deeply in so very long." She then tilted her head to allow him better access to her jaw. His thumb continued to caress her lightly.

"Thank you, David. Thank you for letting me come here, and for showing me such a wonderful night. And for providing me with such security." Blue sparks had begun to pop in the tiny gaps between his thumb and her jaw, and David focused on them in delight. The feeling that accompanied them was so unique and pleasureable.

"I do apologize for clutching onto you so mercilessly through our rest, though. How did you ever sleep with me draped all over you?" she asked, grinning softly.

"It was a terrible burden, Gorgeous. A terrible burden, to have a deadly night thing of fatal beauty in my arms all the day long." he mock-frowned. "Just for your information, I think I was the one clutching on to you…"

He ran his fingers down her shoulder lightly as they laughed together.

"If you were, it must have been pleasurable to me, as you still have your head." Raven said, reaching up to ruffle his hair teasingly. David laughed and let his head fall back on his pillow as he turned himself onto his back. She bent her elbow and rested her head atop her fist, enjoying the sound of the noise. They were comfortably silent for a moment, each enjoying the relaxed mood between them.

"What do you envision for the coming night? How can the boys and I indulge you?" David asked after a while, turning his head to look at her.

Raven cocked her head to one side as if contemplating hard, then spoke in a somber tone that he knew to be a joke.

"I'm afraid I must shop, David. It is a horrible task and one to be avoided at any cost, but I came with virtually the clothing that was on my back. I find myself in need of a wardrobe. Please tell me there is some type of clothing establishment nearby that might meet my needs?"

David could no longer contain himself and burst out in laughter, which Raven echoed soon after. He had felt her mind reach out briefly to flash on her closet in her city home and it had been easy to tell that his little bird enjoyed clothing.

"There are several establishments in close proximity that should serve your purpose. One in particular I think you will enjoy, Little One. And they are all open until late night."

"Perfect." she smiled. "It sounds so humanly femalistic, doesn't it?"

"Even vampires must dress; and ones so divinely beautiful must be even more properly adorned." David chuckled.

"Hmmm," she mused. "I'll be happy if I just find the basics."

"Don't worry, I'm sure we can find something that will please you." he smiled.

"Didn't you know, My Night King? I'm already pleased." Raven evilly grinned, and still luxuriating in the feel of the peaceful rest they had shared, surprised him by climbing on top of him and straddling him. He reached up and placed his hands atop her hips to support her and settled her more comfortably against him.

"Well, well, well. We'll have to assure you remain so, then won't we?" his voice was like the smoothest whiskey wrapped in smoke.

"It is most advisable…" Raven teasingly threatened. She leaned back slightly, placing her hands on her thighs. David chuckled and admired the sight of her in his t-shirt perched on top of him. "Did you have anything specific planned for the night?" she asked, reaching up and beginning to form a loose braid through the long hair that hung to her waist.

"No. Nothing specific. Just allowing you time to settle in a bit more. I had thought to reaching out to a few of my closer associates and having a casual meeting perhaps the night after this. It is important to know that we will all be able to play together nicely as we come together in your venture." he answered. When Raven arched one eyebrow questioningly, he said with a smirk, "A couple of them have rather strong personalities, shall we say, and they seem to find it necessary to test others of the night."

"And you think they would dare to test me?" she asked in wonderment.

"Oh no, Beautiful Bird. They would never…if they knew what you are. I may have held back a few little details regarding your complete being." David replied.

"They don't know…" she began, then laughed as she caught on quickly. "You're setting them up!"

David shifted his weight slightly, taking her hips firmly in his large hands and moving her with him, taking note that his hands could nearly span her waist.

"I wouldn't say that, necessarily, but if they should happen to be taught a lesson in curtesy and respect upon meeting you, it could only improve their circumstances. I'm afraid they are lax in their knowledge of the rest of the night beings, and I am simply offering an educational experience." he ended with a look of boyish innocence on his face.

A surge of energy rolled over him as Raven laughed, the echo of angel chimes floating around the room. She fell back in glee, her legs bent backward at her knees, her torso collapsing on top of David's legs. He chuckled in amusement and sat up, grabbing her tiny wrists and pulling her back up.

"You're amused, my Night Bird?" he teased as she spontaneously threw her arms around his shoulders companionably.

"Yes. Terribly." she giggled. "You're as ridiculously wicked as you are devastatingly handsome."

David smiled as she leaned back a bit. "You have no idea how wicked I can be, Gorgeous."

"I think you're right up there with me, David. Right up there with me." She smirked and leaned forward, touching her lips to his. Bright blue electricity snapped into existence and settled all around them, zapping over and between both their bodies. She felt him snag her lips with his, then felt the curve of his smile against her mouth.

They pulled apart and the blue sparks popped out. Raven left David's lap and gracefully rose from the bed then, and his eyes ran over those luscious bare legs.

"? Shower?" she asked, reaching down and retrieving her discarded skirt from the floor.

"Mmmmm. As in 'together', or as in 'where is it'?" he teased.

"Hmmm; 'where is it'…for now." she laughed back. She quickly sent her mind racing through the cave and found to her delight a small private cavern that had been made into a delightful bath. Pipe led in through a small hole in the cavern's ceiling and it attached to a huge rainfall showerhead. A large teakwood platform covered the rock floor and she could see that water drained away naturally from beneath it toward a small crack in the wall some distance away. There was an oversized bench with a stack of thick, clean towels laid upon it and a chest of drawers with more bath linen inside. A large standing mirror leaned against one wall and she let out a chuckle at this; vanity was not part of their existence. A small vanity table held an assortment of colognes and combs and miscellaneous grooming equipment, and she was surprised at the neat order of everything. Marko's words 'we're not savages, after all' popped into her head and she chided herself. Why would she think these boys took lesser care of themselves than she herself did? She snapped back into herself and triumphantly called out,

"Found it!" She then grabbed her boots as David slid to sit on the edge of the bed. She picked up her discarded camisole and debated whether or not to take it with her or whether to simply continue to wear David's t-shirt. He saw her dilemma and rose from the bed. He crossed to the chest of drawers and pulled out another t-shirt from a pile, this one a black, ribbed, sleeveless T and handed it to her.

"This is the best I can do for now, Little One. But tonight's purchases will all be on me. We'll get you clothed."

Raven was not shocked at his nakedness, merely in awe at his pure masculinity. He was pale perfection; the way his muscles moved under his skin made her feel hot inside, and though heat had not been part of her life for a long time, she was definitely feeling it now.

She reached out and took the shirt from him, their fingers briefly touching. Blue/purple began to snap in the air terrifyingly fast and she gave a slow smile with her head tilted to the side.

"Thanks." she said in a low voice.

David solemnly winked at her and she grinned before departing from the room.

He turned back toward the chest and took a cigarette from a pack that rested there. Lighting it, he fell back on the bed, smiling and releasing a long breath of smoke into the air.

His mind followed her as she lightly ran through the cave to the shower room. He wanted very badly to view her there, to see her in her naked glory, but he respected her too much. Instead, he let his mind briefly touch hers and felt her joy as she stepped beneath the water. She didn't push his mind away with hers, which she could have easily done, and he was glad for it. He pulled back into himself, and finishing his cigarette, got dressed and headed for the main cavern, looking forward to another night spent in the company of his wild boys and the delightful dark creature that had entered his world.
